Ram to Debut Ram 1500 EV Concept at CES 2023

Ram will unveil its all-new Ram 1500 EV concept at the 2023 Consumer Electronics Show (CES). Hosted annually by the Consumer Technology Association, the CES show brings the world’s biggest brands together to do business and share ideas. At the 2023 CES Show, Ram will finally unveil its concept art for the all-electric Ram 1500 pickup truck. Since introducing the Ram 1500 EV, the automaker has been touring the country to get ideas on the most desirable features in an EV truck. Teaser images have also been posted, and speculation about the truck’s performance has circulated. Consumers will get a firsthand look at the automaker’s plans for its first electric pickup truck, so we’ll see what they can expect at the 2023 CES.

Ram 1500 EV Will Be Revealed

Ram will be unveiling the concept art for the all-new Ram 1500 EV. The all-electric pickup truck will be the automaker’s first EV. Ram is hoping that it has gathered enough feedback through its Real Talk Tour for the perfect EV pickup. This tour consisted of conversations with truck owners around the country to gauge their opinion on what they would like to see in an EV pickup. From performance standards to battery range, Ram took it all into account. At the 2023 Consumers Electronic Show (CES) in Las Vegas, Ram will reveal its design concept for its Ram 1500 EV.

The 2024 Ram 1500 EV is set to provide a roadmap for Ram’s future EVs. The truck is set to feature a range extender which will grant it the highest battery range in the EV truck sector. The Ram EV will also be built on Stellantis’ architectural framework, which is reserved for larger trucks and SUVs. The Ram EV marks the beginning of the automaker’s 2030 green initiative, in which Ram hopes to deliver innovative vehicles that are clean, safe, and affordable. By 2025, the automaker aims to offer electric vehicles in a majority of its segments and, by 2030, all of its segments.

Alongside the Ram 1500 EV, Ram is working on a Ram ProMaster EV van. The automaker hopes to create a fleet of commercial electric vans to reduce carbon emissions. For now, all eyes will be on the Ram 1500 EV as it lays the foundation for future Ram EVs. Factors that truck owners care about include range, towing capacity, payload, and of course, charge time. Ram has the luxury of offering its first EV later than other automakers, but this extended time means expectations are high. Ram EV Sees Adjustments Ahead of 2024 Debut

Ram has made strides with its iconic pickups. The Ram 1500 has earned its fair share of awards and accolades like the best light-duty pickup of 2021. The Ram 1500 TRX has also earned accolades like being the Texas Truck of the Year. With many automakers turning toward EVs and hybrids, Ram is considering jumping into the EV sector as well. The automaker had previously announced plans for its own EV pickup. Now it seems that vision will become a reality. Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares recently spoke about the company’s plans for the Ram EV. According to Tavares, the electric pickup will continue to be modified and improved as the company sees fit. With a 2024 launch date, the automaker still has time to improve its EV pickup. One downside to this extra time, however, is that consumers may remain loyal to another EV pickup and they may not consider the Ram EV. Only time will tell. For now, let’s dive into the upcoming Ram EV.

Ram EV On the Way?

Ram has been sitting cozy lately. The automaker’s pickup trucks have been recognized as some of the best available given their performance and capability. Unfortunately, there comes a time when things switch up and those who were on top must conform, or risk losing their spot. This seems to be the case with the new generation of vehicles as many automakers have been turning toward EVs and hybrids. This shift in the auto industry is primarily due to the ongoing global climate crisis. Governments around the globe have acknowledged this persistent threat and, as such, many have started enacting policies and legislation to help reduce carbon emissions. This brings us to Ram and their EV pickup which they teased over a year ago.

The Ram EV is slated for a 2024 release. Stellantis’ CEO Carlos Tavares recently spoke with the financial group Morgan Stanley about the potential features and specs of the all-new all-electric pickup. Tavares stated that his company is gauging consumer interest based on their competitors’ EVs to determine the proper course of their own EV. This is a smart move. Stellantis and Ram can prepare the ultimate EV pickup based on what they feel is most important to consumers. About the company’s decisions, Taveres said,

“We are preparing the EV pickup trucks for 2024, and we are doing it by adjusting the specs and adjusting the performance in function of what we see coming up from our competitors,” said Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares. “It’s a fact that we are coming slightly after them. But it’s also a fact that we have the opportunity to adjust the competitiveness and the appeal of our own trucks to what they are doing, which is a competitive game, which is a fantastic situation for the consumer because the real winner of this competition is the consumer.”

When they last spoke about the Ram EV, Ram had said that the mile range would be around 500 miles. This is a huge leap as Ford’s F-150 Lightning currently gets 300 miles of battery range, and Chevy just announced that their Silverado EV will get 400 miles of battery range. If Ram has the capability, and we’re sure they do, consumers will receive the ultimate Ram EV pickup. They just have to wait patiently until 2024.

Named on Consumer Reports’ list of “Most Reliable Pickup Trucks of the Decade” were the Chevrolet Avalanche, Colorado, Silverado 1500, Silverado 2500HD, and Silverado 3500HD. The Chevrolet Avalanche pickup truck may no longer be available as a new truck (production ended in 2013), but that doesn’t mean a consumer can’t find one used.

Wow, the 2019 Ram 1500 has really been dominating the auto industry recently. So much is going for this truck since its debut at the 2018 Detroit Auto Show. First, there were updates on trims such as the Ram 1500 BigHorn (also known as the Lone Star by Texans), Laramie Longhorn, and Tradesman, and then we found out the 2019 Ram 1500 light duty pickup truck would still be as still as affordable as ever, with an MSRP starting at $31,695 (plus destination fee). There was also the presentation at the 2018 Chicago Auto Show; Ram and Mopar presented a new catalog of performance parts to personalize the new Ram truck. What’s more, consumers don’t even need to go for aftermarket accessories to enjoy the 2019 Ram 1500. WardsAuto just named it on their “10 Best Interiors” list, making the new 2019 Ram 1500 pickup truck a winner inside and out.

Is it really any surprise though? When the 2019 Ram 1500 light duty pickup truck debuted, the body and the cabin were completely redesigned in comparison with past alterations. The automaker’s attention to detail is always superb, and this year consumer convenience and comfortability stood out in the interior more than ever. For the 2019 model year, the Ram 1500 integrates acoustic glass and active noise cancellation technologies to create an quiet interior cabin free of traffic noises and the loud music of our neighbors on the road. Who said the Ram trucks can’t handle going off-road? If they missed the off-road feature capabilities, and the new off-road package for the 2019 Ram 1500 light duty pickup truck, and our piece on “Three Amazing Off-Road Ram Trucks”, then here’s a little more evidence for the naysayers in one word – Mopar. Does anyone remember the off-road Ram Runner concept image that Mopar showed off several years ago at the 2010 Moab Jeep Safari event? Sadly, the kit is no longer available, but off-road enthusiasts need not worry. Take a look at how the new off-road package matches up with the kit by Mopar.

Mopar Ram Runner Kit

As noted, back in 2010, Mopar showed up with the “Mopar Ram Runner Kit”. Developed in conjunction with Baja off-road racer Kent Kroeker, the kit had a number of components, including an additional Pre-Runner Stage II Lift Kit, off-road front bumper, off-road front and rear fenders, off-road rear-tire carrier, sport performance hood and cat-back exhaust. For people interested in more ground clearance, there was also the Pre-Runner Stage II LIft Kit. It included the following: a 5-link coil-spring rear suspension, 4130 chromoly lower control arms, upper control arms rebuildable high-angle ball joints, and forged steel, high-angle tie rods. This kit added fourteen inches of suspension travel in the front and rear, and provided 13 inches of ground clearance in the front and 16 inches of ground clearance at the rocker panels.

2019 Ram 1500 Off-Road Package

The Ram 1500 has always had off-road capability available, but nothing like the capability with the 2019 1500. A new off-road package has been added for the next-generation pickup truck, and it may match up with the old Mopar Ram Runner kit. The package adds a one-inch suspension lift, with or without available four-corner air suspension, an electronic-locking rear differential, and 32-inch on/off-road tires on (standard) 18- or (available) 20-inch wheels to provide additional grip. Denoted by rear-fender decals equipped with the 4×4 Off-road Package, any 2019 Ram 1500 modded with this package will be unmistakable from the rest. The transfer cases have also been upgraded with BorgWarner 48-12 for part-time 4WD operation with Hi and Low ranges and the BorgWarner 48-11 for on-demand 4WD.
