Mopar Teases Potential New Ram Concept at 2021 SEMA Show

Thursday, October 14th, 2021

Ram has been making headlines with its Ram 1500 pickup. The pickup truck was recently awarded first place among light-duty pickups in a 2021 APEAL study. The pickup’s versatility, capability, and high performance have made it a top pick for pickup fans. Now for the 2022 model year, the Ram 1500 is once again generating excitement. It looks like Ram will be providing consumers with another Ram 1500 variant based on several teaser images revealed at the 2021 SEMA show. Each year the Speciality Equipment Market Association (SEMA) hosts the show, but it was canceled in 2020 due to Covid-19. This year the 2021 show will run November 2-5 in Las Vegas. It’s here where Mopar Performance will hopefully provide more information about their teaser images. Mopar works under the Stellantis umbrella so although it showcased Ram vehicles, it also showed off some cool Jeep concept images. We’re focusing on the Ram concept images however as they look to point toward either a special heavy-duty edition Ram 1500, or a more powerful variant, though the Ram 1500 TRX is a beast of a pickup already.

2021 SEMA Show Debuts Two Ram Concept Images

Mopar Performance will be showcasing several vehicle concept images at the 2021 SEMA show in Las Vegas. Three of these images depict a Jeep while the other two images showcase a Ram. Not much information can be discerned from the images as they’re taken in low lighting. The vehicles are also shown at side and rear angles which heightens their allure. In one of the first sketch images of the Ram pickup, the grille design and vent on the headlight can be seen. The Ram in question looks to be a 702 horsepower Hellcat-powered TRX. It’s unclear what Ram will improve or adjust for this new TRX, but the image shows blue-painted tow hooks and new badging. Perhaps Ram will improve off-road features and capabilities.

The second teaser image of the Ram 1500 pickup shows a rear backshot. The pickup is parked next to a tent and there looks to be a storage rack in the truck bed. The typical TRX text which is usually emblazoned on the rear fender is missing so it’s uncertain if this is a TRX trim. With teaser images, half the fun is guessing what new features or elements automakers will make. Given all the dirt being kicked up and the rear shot of what looks like a camp outing, the new Ram 1500 may be granted even more off-road capability. The nature of the SEMA show is to highlight new accessories and parts for Jeep and Ram vehicles, so not much should be expected. Still, pickup fans should pay close attention as there may be new concept images released. From what we’ve seen so far, it looks like Ram will have something special to debut in the months to come.

Ram Unveils Ram 1500 TRX Ignition, Longhorn SouthFork, and Ram 1500 (RAM)RED

Thursday, September 30th, 2021

Ram has done exceedingly well with its Ram 1500, so much so that the pickup ranked first in 2021’s APEAL study. The 2021 Ram 1500 was found to be most favorable among light-duty pickups. It’s no wonder the Ram 1500 pickup has found so much success given its capability and powerful performance. Ram has been steadily releasing new trims and package upgrades for the pickup like the Ram Back Country. Others include the Ram Laramie/Rebel G/T package upgrades which boost performance even further. These all provide the Ram 1500 with new features both inside and outside. Now Ram is once again releasing several new trims for the iconic Ram 1500. At the 2021 State Fair of Texas, Ram unveiled three new vehicles: the 2022 Ram 1500 TRX Ignition, the 2022 Ram 1500 Longhorn SouthFork, and the 2022 Ram 1500 (RAM) Red.

2022 Ram 1500 TRX Ignition

One of the three trims Ram unveiled at the 2021 State Fair of Texas was the 2022 Ram 1500 TRX Ignition. This new Ram trim takes the TRX trim to a higher level as it boosts performance and features greater personalization. New features will consist of technology, a new exterior, and graphics. Only 875 units will be available so TRX fans will have to make sure to reserve theirs. The Ram 1500 TRX Ignition will lean toward luxury with its unique ignition exterior, 18-inch black wheels, panoramic sunroof, spray-in bed liner, and LED cab-mounted brake light. Inside the pickup, owners will note Copperhead Orange stitching as well as an embroidered TRX logo. Copper carbon fiber accents, a head-up display, a TRX custom driver’s screen, and an orange center console badge will also be included.

The 2022 Ram 1500 TRX will come equipped with a high-performance 6.2L supercharged HEMI V8 engine. The new pickup will go on sale in the fourth quarter of 2021 and will start at an MSRP of $91,585 (plus destination fee).

2022 Ram 1500 Longhorn SouthFork

The second Ram 1500 to debut was the 2022 Ram 1500 Longhorn SouthFork. This pickup will replace the Limited Longhorn 10th Anniversary edition. It will improve upon the previous iteration by adding more comfort and luxury. The pickup will still lean toward heavy-duty hauling and the moving of cargo. As such it will include a multi-function tailgate, deployable bed step, spray-in bed liner, and Falken all-terrain tires. Adjustable cargo tie-down hooks, LED box lighting, and a cargo divider will also be included. Inside the Longhorn, owners will note an exclusive Mountain Brown interior color with bucket seats and suede door bolsters. The 2022 Ram 1500 Longhorn SouthFork will also go on sale in the fourth quarter of 2021. It will start at an MSRP of $61,620 (plus the destination fee).

2022 Ram 1500 (RAM) Red

The last pickup to be revealed by Ram was the 2022 Ram 1500 (RAM) Red. This pickup is more of a novelty as it was produced to help aid a commitment to health emergencies. The Ram 1500 RAM Red edition will represent the Global Fund coalition which is made up of Ram, Jeep, and FIAT. This coalition has pledged at least $4 million to help fight health emergencies. The new Ram 1500 Ram Red edition comes available with limited crew cab configurations. Owners will have the choice of a V8 engine or EcoDiesel engine. The pickup will feature a red RAM grille and door badging. A RED badge will also be displayed on the center console lid. This pickup will also be available in the fourth quarter of 2021. It will start at an MSRP of $63,250 (plus destination fee).

2021 Ram 1500 Ranks First Among Light-Duty Pickups in New APEAL Study

Friday, September 24th, 2021
Ram 1500 TRX

Ram has earned yet another accolade for its Ram 1500 pickup. According to the J.D. Power 2021 Automotive Performance Execution and Layout (APEAL) study, the 2021 Ram 1500 ranked first among light-duty pickups. This APEAL study uses consumer sentiment and feedback to gauge which vehicle is more favorable. Overall, the Dodge brand managed to rank first, the second year in a row. For Ram, the automaker took second place, also for the second year in a row. 2021 has been a great year for both automakers. Ram has seen much success with its Ram 1500 with several package options and trims being released like the 2022 Ram 1500 Backcountry. With consumer satisfaction at its highest, the automaker looks to continue to enjoy its success.

Ram 1500 Ranks First Among Pickups

According to the 2021 APEAL study, the 2021 Ram 1500 ranked first among light-duty pickups. The high-performing pickup has dominated markets for a while now. In 2020 the pickup earned the same first-place ranking, thus solidifying it as an optimal pickup truck. The APEAL study gauges consumer satisfaction by looking at feedback during the first three months of ownership. Vehicle attributes like seating comfort, throttle response, and other key characteristics make up a score based on a 1,000 point scale. About their market success, the Stellantis Head of Customer Experience North America Mark Champine said,

“I said last year that we would keep the throttle wide open, and these various results demonstrate our continuing resolve to do so,” said Mark Champine. “We remain on a mission to do better for our customers, and we know we have more work to do.”

Mark Champine, Stellantis Head of Customer Experience North America

The APEAL study aggregates all the characteristics of each nominated vehicle and gives each a score out of 1,000. For the 2021 Ram 1500, the APEAL score totaled 881. This score was 10 points higher than the 2020 APEAL study which means Ram has managed to raise and solidify the Ram 1500’s status as a great pickup to own. Along with the APEAL score, Ram as a brand managed to place second within the automotive industry. This was a step up from last year as the automaker had placed third among mass markets brands.

The 2021 Ram 1500 has earned Ram a spot among the best automotive companies. The tough pickup managed to raise the automaker to the highest echelons with its high performance, tough durability, and iconic look. The Ram 1500 will continue to play a dominating role within the pickup truck sphere. As automakers move toward electric vehicles, we’ll have to see how consumer satisfaction and sentiment react to changes. It seems automakers have been split between moving toward new innovations like with Tesla’s Cybertruck and keeping to traditional aspects like with Ford’s F-150 Lightning. Either way, the consumers will have the power to choose. We will be looking forward to the 2022 APEAL study and its findings.

Florida Auto Shop Builds Monstrous Ram 1500 TRX 6×6 Pickup

Thursday, August 19th, 2021

Florida has always been known for its antics. Whether it’s the infamous ‘Florida Man,’ some exotic reptile escaping, or the creation of something nobody ever knew was needed. Thanks to Apocalypse Manufacturing, we’ve been graced with the third option. The creation of a monstrous pickup truck has been seen with a glint in the eyes of many young children. Those who grow up and still hold fast to the idea continue to envision such a beast. It seems one of those adults finally got their way. The beastly pickup comes to us in the form of the Warlord. This beast of a pickup is a Ram 1500 TRX with one heck of an upgrade. The Warlord as it’s known features an additional axle that supplies it with two extra wheels. The 6×6 pickup doesn’t seem too odd for Florida though. Rather, it is likely the huge Ram pickup was built specifically for the Sunshine State.

The 6×6 Ram 1500 TRX Dubbed Warlord

So, it seems Apocalypse Manufacturing did what most monster truck fans wish they could do. The Florida-based auto shop built a vehicle that is seemingly unstoppable. They decided to take the already powerful 700 horsepower Ram 1500 TRX and give it another huge upgrade. The addition of two wheels and the sheer size of the pickup display a dominating aura. Indeed, this monstrous pickup does leave quite an image. One can imagine it barreling down the interstate as other Floridians simply stare in awe.

What is most impressive about the Warlord is that the Florida auto shop managed to keep a general stock look for the pickup. It’s as if Ram themselves built the powerful beast. The price tag tells us something different, however. For an entry-level Ram 1500 TRX, consumers are looking at a hefty $72,120 MSRP (plus destination fee). This Hellcat-powered pickup, on the other hand, costs a clean $250,000. Oof.

The price tag isn’t entirely surprising though. To construct such a monster of a pickup, a lot of resources and money are required. For those critics, we have to agree that it doesn’t seem too feasible to be grocery shopping in this beast. But just the fact that it exists lends itself to Apocalypse Manufacturing’s vision and the child-at-heart spirit that spurs ingenuity. This custom pickup truck has certainly earned its spot among the crazy inventions of Florida. In fact, it really does represent the creative yet wild energy that makes Florida, Florida. A quick word to the wise, make sure to get out of the way when you see this beast in the rearview.

A Breakdown of the 2021 Ram 1500’s Towing Capacities

Thursday, August 12th, 2021

Ram has been steadily increasing its presence in the pickup sector with new trim upgrades like the 2022 Ram 1500 Laramie and Rebel G/T and talk of its first all-electric pickup. As the auto industry moves toward electric vehicles, Ram is making sure it remains ahead of the competition both with its powerful pickups and its new innovations. Focusing on Ram’s pickups, we can look at the 2021 Ram 1500 to see what sets it apart from its competitors. One area where the 2021 Ram 1500 shines is with its towing capabilities. Depending on the engine and cab choice, 2021 Ram 1500 owners can reach a towing range between 6,290 pounds and 13,330 pounds.

Minimum Towing Capacity of the 2021 Ram 1500

The 2021 Ram 1500 offers consumers a powerful pickup capable of almost any towing and hauling project. Choices in engine and cab can determine the towing capacity of the pickup. Optional package upgrades can also affect the amount of weight towed. Using base features and selections, the 2021 Ram 1500 can reach a minimum towing capacity of 6,290 pounds.

It should be noted that Ram recommends using a weight-distribution hitch when towing anything greater than 5,000 pounds. With that said, let’s take a look at the powerful 2021 Ram 1500 and how it can manage to tow such impressive amounts of weight.

The 2021 Ram 1500 comes available in several trims: the Tradesman, Big Horn/Lone Star, and the Laramie Longhorn/Limited. Each trim comes with a crew-cab configuration with a 3.21 axle ratio. Additionally, the pickup comes with a 6-ft 4-inch bed, four-wheel drive, and a 3.6L V6 engine. These configurations can be modified and interchanged to increase the towing capacity. Prices for the Tradesman trim starts at $41,000 MSRP (plus destination fee) and $58,000 MSRP (plus destination fee) for the Laramie Longhorn trim.

Maximum Towing Capacity of the 2021 Ram 1500

The maximum towing capacity of the 2021 Ram 1500 is an impressive 13,300 pounds. This feat of towing strength can be reached with a configuration of four-wheel drive with an eTorque V8 engine alongside a quad cab and 6-ft-4 bed configuration. To reach such feats, the Tradesman and Big Horn/Lone Star trims are recommended. They offer the most powerful range for those looking to haul the heaviest of materials.

The second highest towing capacity for the 2021 Ram 1500 is 12,750 pounds and this can be reached with the Tradesman trim. A quad cab configuration with a 6-ft 4-inch bed, two-wheel drive, and a 5.7L Hemi V8 with eTorque. A max tow package can be included which provides 18-by-8-inch wheels, a 3.92:1 axle ratio, and a trailer-tow group. This trailer-tow group includes a class IV receiver hitch, trailer tow mirrors, and a trailer brake controller. Owners can opt for these packages for a more secure and higher-end tow capacity.

Towing capacity depends on the engine of which Ram offers five. Two transmission options are also available. Alongside the engine, the type of drive affects towing range. Four-wheel drive is the most optimal for those looking for higher-end tow ranges. The 2021 Ram 1500 offers consumers a powerful and versatile pickup. For those looking for a pickup that can haul and tow during just about any job, the 2021 Ram 1500 is the right choice.

Four Things to Love About the 2021 Ram 1500 TRX

Thursday, March 25th, 2021

There’s no road — paved or not — that the Ram 1500 TRX can’t conquer with its over-the-top supercharged engine, more than 700 horsepower, and a wading depth of 32 inches. Perhaps the fact that the Ram 1500 TRX is pumping out 650 lb-ft of torque has something to do with the fact that it’s such an off-road beast, or maybe it’s the fact that it only needs 4.5 seconds to go from 0 -60 mph — regardless, few vehicles on the current market come close to these performance numbers. Here are four things we love about the 2021 Ram 1500 TRX.  (more…)
