Amazon to Buy Thousands of Electric Ram ProMaster Vans

Ram will be entering a purchase agreement with the e-commerce giant Amazon. According to information supplied by the online publication Inside EVs, Ram will be supplying Amazon with thousands of electric Ram ProMaster vans every year starting in 2024. Although Ram has not yet produced an electric ProMaster van, like many other automakers, it has been shifting its focus toward the blooming EV sector. Ram recently announced its plans for an electric Ram pickup, so we’ll have to keep our ears open for more information. This news about electric ProMasters is promising, however. Ram’s ProMaster vans have been updated for the 2022 model year, so they will serve as a good base for electrification. We’ll dive in further and see exactly what Ram plans to do in conjunction with Amazon.

Ram Partners with Amazon for Delivery Trucks

According to the online publication Inside EVs, Ram will be entering into a purchasing agreement with Amazon for electric Ram ProMaster Vans. As per the agreement, Amazon will be buying electric Ram ProMaster vans every year, starting in 2024. For many years, Amazon has been a dominating force in the e-commerce business. As demand for goods increases, so does the need for drivers and delivery vehicles. With the ongoing global climate crisis, however, many automakers have been looking toward electric vehicles as a way to reduce carbon emissions. If Ram is able to supply electric ProMaster vans to Amazon, this will greatly reduce overall carbon emissions. Inside EVs was able to find a very apt comment about the overall agreement. It reads,

“As part of a separate agreement with Stellantis, Amazon will be the first commercial customer for Stellantis’ new Ram ProMaster Battery Electric Vehicle launching in 2023. Stellantis, with input from Amazon, designed the vehicle with unique last-mile delivery features and Amazon will deploy the vehicle to routes across the United States. Building on the current relationship and as part of the long-term agreement, Stellantis and Amazon will be putting thousands of BEV ProMasters on the road every year.”

This will be a great opportunity for Stellantis and Ram. The upcoming ProMaster van will be the brand’s first all-electric model. It is set to debut in the second half of 2023 as a rival to Ford’s E-Transit. Stellantis has not yet revealed any information about the electric ProMaster, but it will be based on the 2022 Ram ProMaster. Amazon will also equip the electric delivery vans with cloud computing services and in-car dashboard software. We’ll be waiting for more information, but so far this is exciting news for Ram.

Ram EV Sees Adjustments Ahead of 2024 Debut

Ram has made strides with its iconic pickups. The Ram 1500 has earned its fair share of awards and accolades like the best light-duty pickup of 2021. The Ram 1500 TRX has also earned accolades like being the Texas Truck of the Year. With many automakers turning toward EVs and hybrids, Ram is considering jumping into the EV sector as well. The automaker had previously announced plans for its own EV pickup. Now it seems that vision will become a reality. Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares recently spoke about the company’s plans for the Ram EV. According to Tavares, the electric pickup will continue to be modified and improved as the company sees fit. With a 2024 launch date, the automaker still has time to improve its EV pickup. One downside to this extra time, however, is that consumers may remain loyal to another EV pickup and they may not consider the Ram EV. Only time will tell. For now, let’s dive into the upcoming Ram EV.

Ram EV On the Way?

Ram has been sitting cozy lately. The automaker’s pickup trucks have been recognized as some of the best available given their performance and capability. Unfortunately, there comes a time when things switch up and those who were on top must conform, or risk losing their spot. This seems to be the case with the new generation of vehicles as many automakers have been turning toward EVs and hybrids. This shift in the auto industry is primarily due to the ongoing global climate crisis. Governments around the globe have acknowledged this persistent threat and, as such, many have started enacting policies and legislation to help reduce carbon emissions. This brings us to Ram and their EV pickup which they teased over a year ago.

The Ram EV is slated for a 2024 release. Stellantis’ CEO Carlos Tavares recently spoke with the financial group Morgan Stanley about the potential features and specs of the all-new all-electric pickup. Tavares stated that his company is gauging consumer interest based on their competitors’ EVs to determine the proper course of their own EV. This is a smart move. Stellantis and Ram can prepare the ultimate EV pickup based on what they feel is most important to consumers. About the company’s decisions, Taveres said,

“We are preparing the EV pickup trucks for 2024, and we are doing it by adjusting the specs and adjusting the performance in function of what we see coming up from our competitors,” said Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares. “It’s a fact that we are coming slightly after them. But it’s also a fact that we have the opportunity to adjust the competitiveness and the appeal of our own trucks to what they are doing, which is a competitive game, which is a fantastic situation for the consumer because the real winner of this competition is the consumer.”

When they last spoke about the Ram EV, Ram had said that the mile range would be around 500 miles. This is a huge leap as Ford’s F-150 Lightning currently gets 300 miles of battery range, and Chevy just announced that their Silverado EV will get 400 miles of battery range. If Ram has the capability, and we’re sure they do, consumers will receive the ultimate Ram EV pickup. They just have to wait patiently until 2024.

The Ram 2500 is One of the Best Heavy-Duty Pickups of 2022

2022-ram-2500

Ram has received a lot of praise for its 2022 Ram 1500. The light-duty pickup has made headlines given its capability, toughness, and high-quality interior. Ram has been steadily improving its pickup lineup, but one that isn’t discussed as much is the Ram 2500. The 2022 Ram 2500 is a powerful pickup that increases performance and capability. Thanks to its potent engine variants, this pickup offers consumers impressive towing capacity. It also features a luxurious interior and the latest safety features. Given all this, the 2022 Ram 2500 serves as one of the best heavy-duty pickup trucks of 2022. We’ll dive in further to discover just why the Ram 2500 is so great.

Performance

The 2022 Ram 2500 comes available with two engine choices: a 6.4L Hemi V8 and a 6.7L Hemi turbo diesel I6 engine. The 6.4L comes standard and is capable of 410 horsepower and 420lb-ft of torque. The 6.7L is optional and is capable of 370 horsepower and 850lb-ft of torque. For the consumer who needs the best-in-class horsepower and torque, there’s no other choice like the Ram 2500. The Hemi V8 pairs with an 8-speed automatic transmission that is precise. It offers 17,540 pounds of towing capability and 4,010 pounds of payload.

Equipped with the diesel I6, Ram 2500 owners can expect up to 20,000 pounds of towing capacity and 3,160 pounds of payload. This turbo-diesel engine utilizes a multirange 6-speed automatic transmission that features optimized gear ratios. Depending on their needs, a Ram 2500 owner can opt for the V8 or I6. If acceleration is more important than towing capacity, the V8 may be the most optimal choice. This full range of capability is what makes the 2022 Ram 2500 so versatile.

Interior

Aside from the performance and capability of the 2022 Ram 2500, the pickup also offers a comfortable and luxurious interior cabin. Owners will note a 900-watt Premium Audio system that plays through 17 high-quality speakers. With acoustic glass and active noise cancellation, listening to music becomes a studio experience. There’s also a huge touchscreen at the center of the dashboard. It features a user-friendly menu that’s compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

For safety, the Ram 2500 offers adaptive forward lighting, 15-degree turning headlights, and a 360-degree surround-view camera system. There’s also front and rear park assist, lane departure warnings, and forward-collision warnings.

The 2022 Ram 2500 starts at $37,050 (plus destination fee). There are several trims that scale in price and features. The highest trim, the 2500 Limited, comes in at $64,985 (plus destination fee). For consumers looking for a relatively affordable and powerful pickup, the 2022 Ram 2500 serves as the optimal choice.

Comparing the 2022 Ram 1500 vs the 2021 Ford F-150, Which has the Nicer Interior?

The 2022 Ram 1500 has been receiving high praise and attention for its capability, versatility, and overall toughness. The 2021 Ford F-150 has also received similar praise for its ability to get just about any job done. Both pickups are similar in capability and when comparing them, the decision between both really comes down to preference. One factor that hasn’t been compared however is the interior cabin. We’ll be looking at both pickups and comparing the interior to see which has better features and overall comfort. For this comparison, we’ll be using the Limited trim as features and aesthetics can change depending on trim level.

2022 Ram 1500 Limited

The 2022 Ram 1500 Limited is one of the better light-duty pickup trucks available. It offers a lot in terms of capability and versatility. As far as the interior goes, it offers a rather luxurious aesthetic with upscale material. The Ram 1500 has a similar level of leather quality as the F-150, but the interior features rich details and trims. The pickup offers quilted door panels and A-pillar grab handles. The center dash does have a lower grade chrome, but attention to detail is carried throughout the pickup.

The Ram 1500 comes equipped with analog gauges around a central information screen. The gauges feature a 3D appearance and the center of the dashboard has a vertical 12-inch touchscreen. The graphics are high-quality, but they aren’t the most responsive. The front center console is large, similar to the F-150, but it has a configurable aspect ratio along with a sliding section. As far as the rear seating area goes, the Ram has a comfortable amount of room. There’s an adjustable rear bench seat with a reclining backrest. The rear seats are also heated and ventilated.

2021 Ford F-150 Limited

The 2021 Ford F-150 is a very capable pickup. The F-150 is one of the most popular trucks and there’s a reason for that. One quality that isn’t mentioned much, however, is the interior. The Ford F-150 features a relatively decent interior cabin. There’s high-quality leather upholstery with carbon-fiber accents and a suede headliner. The quality can diminish with hard-plastic elements near the front-seat cushion and below, however. The A-pillar grab handles do not differ much from lower trimmed F-150s, but they serve their purpose. The pickup features an intuitive dashboard with a 12-inch touchscreen. This features easily accessible buttons and knobs for the audio and climate controls.

Looking at the rear seating area, the Ford F-150 features a spacious rear bench seat with plenty of legroom. The rear-seat cushion is a bit short though. Like the Ram 1500, the rear seats are heated but they are not ventilated.

Verdict

Both the 2022 Ram 1500 Limited and 2021 Ford F-150 Limited are luxury trucks capable of a lot. They both offer consumers a high-quality interior with upscale materials. The F-150 offers premium amenities, but compared to the Ram 1500, the Ram pulls ahead given its high-scale upholstery and more comfortable backseat.
