Ram and Chevy are well known for their heavy-duty truck options because their available models are extremely configurable. All models are available with a few different powerful engines, two rear axle configurations, a number of axle ratios and two drivetrains to provide various levels of horsepower and torque to accommodate some of the heaviest towing or payload needs.
Ram’s heavy-duty pickup truck options include the Ram 2500 and Ram 3500 and both models are available with three different engines. The available 5.7-liter HEMI V8 engine provides a towing capacity of up to 13,910 pounds, the 6.4-liter HEMI V8 engine provides a towing capacity of 16,480 pounds and a max payload capacity of 7,350 pounds. The most powerful engine option is the 6.7-liter Cummins Turbo Diesel engine. When the Ram 3500 is equipped with the 6.7L engine it is available with a special six-speed AISIN automatic transmission and it gives he Ram 3500 a best-in-class maximum torque of 930 lb-ft and a maximum fifth-wheel towing capacity of 30,000 pounds.
Both Ram heavy duty pickup truck models are available in a number of trims and the Ram 2500 trim is available in the off-roading specialty trim, the Ram 2500 Power Wagon.
The Chevy Silverado 2500HD and Chevy Silverado 3500HD are both available with two engine options, a Vortec 6.0-liter V8 engine and a Duramax 6.6-liter Turbo Diesel V8 engine. The 6.0-liter engine produces 360 horsepower and 380 lb-ft of torque and the 6.6-liter engine produces 445 horsepower and 910 lb-ft of torque. The Chevy Silverado 2500HD and 3500HD have a max towing capacity of 14,500 pounds.
Chassis cab trucks are trucks with a cab and there is no truck bed located on the rear frame. Chassis cab trucks are designed to provide customers with an easy and affordable way to have a unique upfit installed. Ram and Chevy both provide a number of different upfit options, like dump truck, flat bed and utility upfits, that provide smart storage and transportation solutions for a number of industries.
The Ram chassis cab is available in three different models, the Ram 3500, Ram 4500 and Ram 5500. The two available engines are the 6.4-liter HEMI V8 engine and the 6.7-liter Cummins Turbo Diesel engine.
Chevy’s chassis cab option is only available as the Chevy Silverado 3500HD. Like the heavy-duty 3500HD, the Chevy Chassis Cab is available with two engine options, the Vortec 6.0-liter V8 engine or the Duramax 6.6-liter Turbo Diesel V8 engine.
Cargo vans are a pretty versatile class of commercial vehicles. Cargo vans can be used to transport multiple passengers, large cargo or even be fitted with unique upfits that can transform vans into food trucks, mobile offices and even emergency vehicles like ambulances.
Ram makes one type of cargo van, the Ram ProMaster, and it is available as a passenger van, cutaway van, chassis cab van or classic cargo van. The ProMaster passenger van is available with seating for seven or nine passengers depending on how many rows of seats are installed. With the standard cargo van body, the Ram ProMaster offers more than 460 cubic feet of cargo space and a best-in-class turning diameter of 36’. The Ram ProMaster chassis cab and cutaway vans have unique rear frames that accommodate a wide range of upfits.
The Ram ProMaster is available with two engine options, a 3.6-liter V6 gas engine or a 3.0-liter four-cylinder diesel engine. 2018 Ram ProMaster models come standard with a rearview camera.
Chevy makes three types of cargo vans, the Chevy Express, Chevy Express Passenger and Chevy Express Cutaway, and they all have different bodies. The Chevy Express is available with two engine options, a 4.3-liter engine and a Vortec 6.0-liter V8 engine. The 6.0-liter engine gives the a maximum towing capacity of 10,000 pounds. The Chevy Express Passenger comes standard with seating for twelve people, and a 15-passenger option is available.
Chevrolet and Ram both manufacture “city-sized” cargo vans, which are smaller versions of cargo vans. Ram’s city cargo van is the Ram ProMaster City and Chevy’s is the Chevy City Express.
The Ram ProMaster City is available in two configurations (cargo van and wagon van) and two trims (Tradesman and SLT). Built to be used more for cargo than people, the cargo van body has seating for two people and offers best-in-class cargo capacity of 131.7 cubic feet. The wagon van body is built for people and cargo and it has seating for up to five people and a maximum cargo capacity of 101.7 cubic feet, as well as more windows. The Ram ProMaster City comes standard with a 2.4-liter MultiAir 4-cylinder engine and it provides best-in-class 28 mpg highway fuel economy.
The Chevy City Express is available with a standard cargo body. It offers seating for two passengers and 122.7 cubic feet of cargo volume. The Chevy City Express is equipped with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and it averages 24 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway.
