Mitsubishi Motors has had some surprising announcements this year. Possibly their most talked about debut would be the Mitsubishi Engelberg Tourer at the 2019 Geneva International Motor Show, alongside its Dendo Drive House (DDH) proposition. All of this good news could possibly be overshadowing their most recent addition to the automotive lineup, the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross. This vehicle has also had some good news as of late, such as earning a Top Safety Pick from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). The Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross is also known for its upgraded technology, such as a Mitsubishi Connect Telematics System with Safeguard, able to work with a recent smartphone app released by Mitsubishi, Road Assist+. With all these additions, Mitsubishi Motors continues to win awards for the Eclipse Cross overseas.

It took Mitsubishi Motors some time to break into the North American automotive market. Looking back at 100 years of Mitsubishi Motors, and it wasn’t until the 1980s that they joined the party. So of course, back in their homeland of Japan, there’s plenty of recognition for the last in-house vehicle, the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross. One group in particular, holds an event every year, the Automotive Researchers’ & Journalists’ Conference of Japan (RJC), and for the second consecutive year, the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross was also named the “RJC Car of the Year” for 2019.

The 2019 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross has a lot to love, like new technology features by Mitsubishi Motors, and although at first it met some resistance, the new crossover broke its way into the auto market. Now that the crossover is going onto its third year in 2020, take a look at what makes it a winning vehicle with the 2019 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross, recently named a Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

Those words hold true when it comes to an award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, or IIHS. This non-profit group was set up by several large insurance companies to determine the safest vehicles on the road, and the IIHS been rating vehicles of nearly every make and model since. The IIHS runs several kinds of tests when determining a vehicle’s safety, or as the organization calls it, “crashworthiness”. First, there are five major tests: small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength, and head restraints.
