Did Mitsubishi Preview the New Ralliart Vehicle in Tokyo?

Mitsubishi Motors may not have shown up at the 2022 Consumer Electronics Show – Mitsubishi Electric was the one rocking that stage. Both part of the Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC), whatever tech the latter is working on will eventually find its way into upcoming Mitsubishi models. Speaking of which, we’re all still in the dark about the new vehicle coming from Mitsubishi since the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance broke the silence. We thought it might be a new sports car thanks to the revival of Mitsubishi Ralliart, but Mitsubishi is still focused on electric vehicle (EV) development. Instead, the Ralliart team will be there to spice up already existing models. During the 2022 Tokyo Auto Salon, Mitsubishi Motors showed us a little tease of how the Ralliart name can change the current lineup.

See, way back when, “Ralliart” was the name known for the Lancer Evolution, the still popular vehicle used by rally drag racers everywhere. Making it just an afterthought sounds blasphemous, but adding the same flair onto current models will save resources for whatever the automaker is working on in the background. If anything, the new vehicle teased during the Tokyo Auto Salon, the Mitsubishi Vision Ralliart Concept, could be what we’ve all been waiting for.

The tease is exactly that – a tease. Aside from a huge rear diffuser with a simple Ralliart badge, we can’t see much else. The automaker did chime in to give us a little more information about exterior features, including large brake rotors and six-piston brake calipers for more stopping power, 22-inch wheels with bigger tires, unique front and rear bumpers, wider fenders in the front and rear for more rugged looks, and a new front grille. It’s definitely sounding like a more muscular version of current SUVs in the lineup. With rumors circulating that the concept is built on the Outlander PHEV, that raises some interesting questions. Also during the auto show, Mitsubishi Motors introduced the Outlander SUV in Ralliart Style and an Eclipse Cross in Ralliart Style, and with the Outlander PHEV getting replaced by the Eclipse Cross PHEV as the new electric flagship of Mitsubishi, we know it’s not just another Outlander PHEV. According to the automaker, this concept “embodies Mitsubishi Motors’ vision for the new Ralliart”.

The Outlander Ralliart Style and Eclipse Cross Ralliart Style didn’t look too different in comparison to their counterparts, aside from red accents with new white/black badges. They’re most likely previews of Ralliart appearance packages that will become available during or after production. If Ralliart is going to do more than style and focus on aftermarket accessories, the Outlander Wild Adventure Style based on the PHEV was a great example. Outfitted with all-terrain tires, bumper protectors, mud guards, a roof carrier, trailer hitch, and more, this SUV is not only nature-friendly, but it’s made for the outdoors.

Other vehicles that popped up have been popular overseas but have yet to make it to the states, and probably never might. One is a new Mitsubishi Delica and the new generation of the EV minicar in Japan, known as “kei cars”. Able to be used as a commercial vehicle (electric taxi) or a personal vehicle, it’s interesting that Mitsubishi Motors hasn’t used it to expand the North American lineup.2021 was all about the Mitsubishi Outlander. Maybe 2022 will finally give us the new Mitsubishi vehicle we’ve been waiting on for the last two years. In 2021, Mitsubishi Motors was a little quiet. With a lot of the marketing surrounding the next generation of the Mitsubishi Outlander, such as the Mitsubishi Thunderstruck campaign. With a lot of mystery still surrounding the plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) entry into the C/D segment coming from the automaker after the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance discussed the group’s midterm plans in 2020, the focus may be on the Outlander SUV, but this next generation model is a true winner.

In 2022, Mitsubishi Motors North America (MMNA) will officially be celebrating 40 years of sales in the U.S. market, having first started selling on American shores in 1982. As the automaker places more focus and resources on electric vehicle (EV) development, the Mitsubishi Outlander remains the flagship of the automaker and will be receiving a special edition to commemorate the 40 year anniversary. In the coming years, a new flagship vehicle, the Eclipse Cross PHEV will be the new icon of Mitsubishi Motors. As a matter of fact, the Eclipse Cross was one of the first Mitsubishi vehicles to win an award this year, a 2021 AutoPacific Vehicle Satisfaction Award. The Mitsubishi Eclipse won this due to owner satisfaction measured across 36 individual vehicle attributes.

39 years ago, Mitsubishi Motors added Mitsubishi Motors North America (MMNA) to the company and set off for America with its new headquarters, Mitsubishi Motor Sales of America, in Fountain Valley, California. Starting off with vehicles sold through an initial dealer network of 70 facilities across the country, the Mitsubishi Tredia, Cordia, and Starion landed stateside in 1982. In 2022, Mitsubishi Motors will be celebrating its 40th Year Anniversary, and in honor of its flagship vehicle, the Mitsubishi Outlander SUV, a special edition will be released for the 2022 model year, the most recent edition of the Outlander.

Since Mitsubishi Motors came to America, the automaker has spread its wings and operated in multiple locations. After its first headquarters based in Fountain Valley, California, the automaker then took a home in Cypress, California for more than 30 years before making its most recent move to Franklin, Tennessee. Earning its right as a part of the community, MMNA has done a lot to support the civilians of TN, such as hosting free teen safe driving courses and helping to support disaster relief efforts and funding non-profit organizations, like the Charis Health Center in Middle Tennessee.

Vincentric Names Mitsubishi Mirage G4 for Best CPO Value in America

Friday, December 3rd, 2021

When it comes to buying a new car, consumers want to get all the facts, and they should. What’s the reputation of so-and-so automaker? What do big names in the industry have to say about them? Sure, this vehicle may come with a great price, but what’s the cost to own that vehicle? That last question may not come to the minds of many automakers, thanks to automotive warranties. However, these warranties don’t cover everything, and most last about five years. Mitsubishi Motors would be the exclusion, with all Mitsubishi vehicles covered by a basic limited warranty for 5 years/60,000 miles, a powertrain limited warranty for 10 years/100,000 miles, 7 years or 100,000 miles of anti-corrosion coverage, and roadside assistance. Even with all that coverage, even big names like Vincentric say Mitsubishi Motors has one of the best vehicles with a cost-to-own lifetime. It’s the most fuel-efficient gas-powered, non-hybrid vehicle available in the U.S., the Mitsubishi Mirage G4 sedan.

“The Mirage G4 sedan has an important place in our North American lineup and offers customers a stylish, value-oriented, fuel-efficient package, backed by one of the industry’s leading warranties…Recognized as a leader in the segment in 2020, we are thrilled that industry data and analysis leader Vincentric has once again named Mirage G4 at the top of its class.” – MMNA COO Mark Chaffin

Mitsubishi Uses a little Thunder for the New 2022 Outlander Marketing Campaign

Since the release of the new 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander, the automaker is putting a lot of focus on its flagship SUV before it makes the change to a fully EV-oriented future. The next model to take the stage is the upcoming Eclipse Cross PHEV, a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle. Before that happens, the Outlander is king, and Mitsubishi is increasing the hype with a new multi-faceted marketing campaign featuring music from AC/DC. The name of the campaign also shares its moniker with a very popular song – “Thunderstruck”.

It really feels like they missed a chance to get the God of Thunder Thor involved after a certain automaker grabbed actors from the Disney+ series WandaVision, Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and Loki. Alas, Mitsubishi Motors wants consumers to feel “thunderstruck” when they feast their eyes on the upgraded next-generation of the 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander SUV. Boasting style, modern tech like wireless Apple CarPlay Support (maybe Google Android Auto?), Mitsubishi Motors Super All-Wheel Control traction system with six modes, and the Outlander receiving a Top Safety Pick Plus (TSP+) rating from IIHS, also known as the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety, this ad highlights just enough.

“The all-new 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander is the most-connected, best-equipped vehicle we have ever sold in the U.S., and given how positively it’s already been received by members of the media, our dealer partners and consumers, it represents a huge opportunity to raise awareness and consideration for the Mitsubishi brand…The Outlander takes its place at the head of the Mitsubishi Motors lineup. With a car that stands out from the crowd the way this one does, we knew we needed a soundtrack that would help it be just as memorable and stand out in the crowded field of advertising.” – MMNA senior manager of marketing, Kim Ito

What makes this new campaign such a big deal is that the process it’s a first for the auto industry never done before. The new “Thunderstruck” campaign was created by Unite Digital in collaboration with The Sussman Agency in Detroit, developed in partnership with Unite Digital. The latter allowed the company to greatly increase the customization and personalization capabilities of the advertisement. That is to say, each of the company’s approximately 330 dealer partners will be able to personalize and customize the current national advertisement and tailor it for local use. At the same time, Mitsubishi Motors North America (MMNA) will be able to ensure consistent quality and production value to make sure the automaker doesn’t send out the wrong message via a dealership partner.

This campaign is a continuation of Mitsubishi Motors making noise for the Outlander. The first vehicle to ever be revealed to a global audience via Amazon Live, the new Outlander SUV has received a lot of praise and accolades on top of the TSP+ rating by the IIHS – recently, the 2022 Outlander was recently announced as a winner of the Wards 10 Best Interiors award. Now that’s a high mark for quality, and the ad above definitely shows us a comfy looking cabin with lush leather. Ready to check out this SUV? You can find the new 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander at Miami Lakes Automall today.

WardsAuto Names 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander on 10 Best Interiors List

Wednesday, October 27th, 2021

As the year gets closer to the end, automakers get to round up all the awards and accolades they receive for models of the current and new model year. Many automotive journalists and organizations also start to finalize the results from their reviews, analysis, and data collection to talk about the best vehicles out there. Oftentimes, that comes in the form of a list – “The Best” something or other. This time, the list is coming from a well-known name in the industry, WardsAuto, and the list is their “10 Best Interiors” list. Why are we talking about it? Because this year, the 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander has landed on such a list.

Now that’s some great news. The Mitsubishi Outlander has gone under a number of changes for 2022, and the design concept the interior was based on turned the cabin into an intuitive setting for passengers. The concept was called Omotenashi, or next-level Japanese hospitality, where an environment is designed to anticipate the needs of its guests. In a vehicle setting, an interior cabin would be designed with features and amenities to “anticipate” passenger needs. One example of this is Smartphone pockets built into the second row for passengers’ convenience.

Alongside such features, the 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander stands out for its allure of luxury at such a great price. With genuine leather seating surfaces available, the SUV has slowly added more upscale and high-end features to recent models. The new Outlander comes with many features to make it a more modern vehicle to compete with the rest of the market. Consumers can find a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster on the left and 9-inch center screens with embedded navigation and wireless smartphone charging capability for Google Android Auto™ and Apple CarPlay® available in the new 2022 Outlander.

Although the 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander has a starting MSRP of $26,095 (plus destination fee), WardsAuto must have had a maxxed out SEL Touring trim. Starting at $34,646 (plus destination fee), this trim already comes with LED front fog lights, a hands free power remote liftgate, power panoramic sunroof, synthetic leather seating surfaces, heated front and rear seats with triple-zone automatic climate control, leather-wrapped, heated steering wheel and leather-wrapped shift knob to start the luxury aspects. Then the tech comes in with a great sound system to start – Bose™ premium audio with 10 speakers, a multi-view camera system, a 9-inch Smartphone-link Display Audio with Navigation – SiriusXM™ with 3-month All Access trial, HD Radio, and smartphone wireless charging. The 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander on the list is just shy of $40k.

“At $38,590, this interior stands out from the crowd because it looks so premium and luxurious,” – judge Drew Winter of the all-new Outlander

WardsAuto is well-known in the auto industry as an organization that covers the latest news, data, and analysis on the newest vehicles on the market today. For lists like the “10 Best Interiors” list, WardsAuto only includes car models and interiors that are all new or were significantly improved from the previous year to be included on the list. These changes can be something simple like adding color choices, the aesthetics like accents and stitching, styling, and the materials used in the cabin, or unique features with multiple functions, like an in-floor storage bin. The WardsAuto 10 Best Interiors List recognizes models for their outstanding achievement in aesthetics, comfort, ergonomics, materials usage, fit-and-finish, and user-friendliness of displays and controls. The 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander made it to the list and you can find the 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander at Miami Lakes Automall.

Mitsubishi Motors and the 2021 Rebelle Rally

Tuesday, September 21st, 2021

Back in 2018, Mitsubishi Motors started a campaign called the “Small Batch – Big Impact” initiative. The premise was simple – the automaker produced a sample size of the vehicles available in the lineup, and then donated these vehicles to worthwhile causes, usually charities in need of transportation. Mitsubishi has also provided much help in Nashville, TN, the hometown of its new manufacturing plant. In 2019 Mitsubishi Motors got a little gutsy and entered a rally to show what the Eclipse Cross can do. It was the 2019 Rebelle Rally, and the mark Mitsubishi left on team Record the Journey spawned a tradition that continues in October for the 2021 Rebelle Rally.

This race is a continuation of the partnership between Mitsubishi Motors and Record the Journey (RTJ), a military veterans charity dedicated to helping service members transition back into civilian life successfully. RTJ is also involved in advocating for PTSD awareness. Sergeant Major Rachael Ridenour, a U.S. Army combat veteran with 32 years of service, is the RTJ charity founder and served as team navigator during the 2019 Rebelle Rally in a Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross and the 2020 Rebelle Rally in a Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. This year, the responsibility lies on the shoulders of Selena “Mason” Converse and Erin Mason, and their two-and-a-half year-old German Shepherd, Sammy.

Mitsubishi Scores Highest for Premium Brands in 2021 J.D. Power IQS

Last year, we missed out on many chances to celebrate reviews and awards with the virus causing many areas in the world to quarantine. Kind of makes it hard to get people together and talk about cars. Thankfully, this year is a little more relaxed. Auto shows have resumed, publications and organizations are getting together, and studies are being conducted to find the “best of the best”, the “top ten”, and generally just the best cars currently new and available in the auto market. That brings us to a big name in the industry – J.D. Power & Associates. Having recently completed its 2021 U.S. Initial Quality Study (IQS), we now have the results for the highest-ranking brands, and kind of surprising but also thrilling – Mitsubishi is at the top for premium auto brands. Shazam!

“The J.D. Power Initial Quality Study provides unparalleled insight into how new vehicle owners feel about their purchase in the critical first few months of ownership…We are thrilled to see that our vehicles deliver the quality and value that Mitsubishi Motors customers expect, and with the current sales success of the all-new 2022 Outlander and redesigned 2022 Eclipse Cross, we are excited for the future.” – Yoichi Yokozawa, president and CEO of Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc.

On the grand scheme, the auto industry improved by about 2-percent in contrast to 2020, but the usual is 3-percent, so it’s not a huge loss considering 2020 and the semiconductor chip shortage crisis affecting many automakers. Despite this, quality is still a large part of the car-buying process, and how well a vehicle’s initial quality holds up, at least for the first few months before wear-and-tear sets in, and that’s why we have the J.D. Power IQS. Vehicles are scored based on how many problems per 100 vehicles (PP100) during the first 90 days of ownership that owners and lessees of new vehicles experience. A low number equals a high score in this study.

Mitsubishi Motors North America (MMNA) has been getting involved with the community and charities over the last few years, finding ways to give back and help how it can. 2020 was a year of hardships for many people, and automakers around the world started giving back in the form of donations, resources, and couriers with model units donated to organizations in need of transport. MMNA started its own program in 2018 – “Small Batch – Big Impact” – an initiative aimed at improving the community by producing a small batch of Mitsubishi Motors models and then using them to make a big impact on the community. It eventually spawned MMNA’s Community Utility Vehicle (CUV) Program, with its first donation to nonprofit organization Record the Journey, racing with RTJ in the annual Rebelle Rally. That tradition continues in 2021.

2022 Mitsubishi Outlander Setting a New Standard for SUVs

Wednesday, August 18th, 2021
miami-lakes-2022-mitsubishi-outlander-sales
miami-lakes-2022-mitsubishi-outlander-sales

The 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander SUV is currently the bread-winner for Mitsubishi Motors North America (MMNA). That might not be the story for long, while the automaker shifts its focus to electric vehicle (EV) development and is set to make the new flagship of the automaker the Eclipse Cross PHEV. The original Eclipse Cross recently won a spot in the 2021 AutoPacific Vehicle Satisfaction Awards, so it’s already a great step in the right direction for the new flagship car of Mitsubishi Motors. For now, however, the 2022 Outlander is crushing it in sales and even with the current semiconductor chip shortage, the new SUV is attracting a higher-class crowd and big spenders that will keep Mitsubishi Motors going strong.

It may be surprising to think of an SUV as a luxury vehicle, but these large vehicles have become more than just machines that can handle various driving conditions. We’ve come a long way from the gas guzzlers SUVs once were, and these days, every automaker wants at least one SUV or model they can use to compete in the luxury vehicle class, and not just the mass market. Having sold 6,954 units so far, double the sales of 2020 to date, the new Outlander is forging the path for new and future Mitsubishi models.
