Android-based Infotainment Systems Coming to a Mitsubishi Near you

The Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance recently announced that they’ve agreed to a multi-year deal with Google to include Android-powered infotainment systems in vehicles they manufacture. This latest deal comes as part of the Alliance’s strategy to equip new vehicles with a broader array of infotainment and tech features. This modern infotainment system will begin its launch in 2021, fully integrating the dashboard displays and the Android operating system (OS).

What Google has accomplished here is no small feat – the tech giant has been attempting to infiltrate the car market with their operating system for over a decade. Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi, the world’s largest automaker alliance, sold more than 10 million vehicles worldwide in 2017, and over 5.5 million during the first half of the current year (2018), making the Alliance the perfect partner to introduce an Android-based infotainment system to the masses. The more integrated and easy-to-use an infotainment system is, the more appealing it makes a vehicle for a potential buyer.

Drivers and passengers will be enabled to do things like using Google Maps directly from the vehicle, use the voice-controlled audio assistant when answering texts and calls, search for information while managing different functions within the vehicle, and eventually run automotive apps straight from the Google Play store. These features will be combined with the automaker’s Alliance Intelligent Cloud to enable vehicle diagnostics and remote software upgrades. Apple iPhone users do not need to worry; the infotainment system will also be compatible with Apple iOS.

The reason it’s taken Google this long? Automakers are wary of the data-mining that Google will have access to when they install the Android Operating System, leaving car manufacturers without a source to use this particular data to develop features as other revenue streams. Thus, automakers have continuously kept the infotainment systems in-house, until now that is. It’s important to note that Google will not mine any data without the consent of the driver and/or passengers – it is an opt-in data-mining opportunity.

The Alliance also benefits from this deal because they don’t have to continue spending their resources in developing their own software like many car manufacturers have been doing. Up until now, carmakers have been making their own software that supports an infotainment system via mirroring only, as opposed to making the software a truly integrated part of the vehicle. Mitsubishi, as part of the Alliance, will once again continue their tradition of making headway when it comes to cars and tech.

In the meantime, Mitsubishi will continue to feature their own Mitsubishi Connect services in their vehicles. Mitsubishi Connect currently has primary Bluetooth-enabled call and text capabilities complete with music pairing abilities, and two different packages – Safeguard and Remote packages- that are tailored to an individual driver’s needs. The Remote Services app is the closest thing that Mitsubishi currently has to an Android OS infotainment system – including its ability to be paired with Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa-enabled devices when possible.

The Science Behind Distracted Driving

Distracted-driving-infographic-NHTSA-Miami-Lakes-Automall-Mitsubishi

On a daily basis, we are constantly reminded to drive safely. Whether it is the “Stop Texting and Driving” bumper stickers, billboards, or the Pokemon Go update that stops the app if it senses the user traveling at a certain speed, we are constantly reminded that distracted driving is a bad idea. Yet with all of the signs and all of the numbers, we continue to allow ourselves to be distracted while driving. We’ll delve in to what constitutes distracted driving, why it continues to happen on such a large scale, and what we can do to prevent it.

What is distracted driving?

Simply put, distracted driving is any activity that takes attention away from the driver of a vehicle. These distractions can be broken down into three main types: visual, manual, and cognitive. Visual distracted driving can include anything from texting on your phone, to applying makeup, looking at navigation and entertainment systems, or even playing a game. Manual distractions involve taking your hands off the wheel, whether this is to pick up something that was dropped, eating, drinking, or tinkering with the stereo. And cognitive distractions are those that take your mind off of driving – speaking with other passengers in the car, driving while sad or angry, and a number of other potential risks.

Routine Car Maintenance: Know Where To Go

160413_FF_TaxesSpentOn

There are some perks if you have decided to purchase a vehicle instead of leasing. One perk is you don’t have to worry about going over a certain amount of miles per year, but you will have to worry about repairs you might not have faced before. As aging vehicles approach around 100,000 miles or get older, there’s usually different concerns as the vehicle will require closer attention to any problems. However, preventive maintenance before that mark should always occur every 3,000 to 5,000 miles.

For newer drivers, routine maintenance is what we we’ll cover here so that you car can make it to that 100k mark.

Along the way, usually different parts need to be replaced or serviced, from brake rotors and brake pads to common fluids that help your vehicle move and stay lubricated, such as oil. That’s where Miami Lakes Automall can help. We can ensure you have the right parts and quickly get you back on the road in a safe, properly running vehicle. Below are different routine car maintenance services we commonly address and will be happy to help you out with for the life of your vehicle.

Routine Tire Rotations + Alignment

Your vehicle needs to have its tires rotated regularly. Your vehicle’s alignment is also important to maintain a proper wear with your tires, an alignment fix is all it takes to ensure your vehicle can stay running smoothly. If you’ve noticed your tires are wearing down only on one side, or simply your vehicle drifts either left or right when your hand is not on the steering wheel while moving forward, that means you’ll need to have your vehicle’s alignment looked at.

Oil Changes

For most vehicles, between every 3,000-5,000 miles traveled is when the oil should be changed. If you use fully synthetic oil you can help your vehicle with a product that offers greater engine wear protection and requires fewer changes. Synthetic oils typically outperform conventional motor oils and synthetic oil flows better at low temperatures. Whether you choose synthetic or conventional, your vehicle’s engine will thank you when you come in for an oil change.

Brake Replacements

As mentioned above, brakes wear down over time. If you notice your brakes have some wear, that’s normal. It’s when you can hear a loud squeaking sound that they might be worn down or if you press your brakes and they don’t respond promptly. That’s when you should take care of this problem and we have all the parts to ensure your vehicle will stop properly.

Radiator Fluid Replacement

Flush your radiator and cooling system is not something you’ll have to do often. Most likely only once or twice in your vehicle’s lifetime. A flush doesn’t cost a lot at all and allows your vehicle to cool the engine more efficiently. Getting a flush done is best when left to the professionals though, as this task requires proper disposal of the old radiator fluid. Radiator fluid can be toxic; meaning you don’t want to do this at your home anyway. With a proper flush and radiator fluid replacement can last for upwards of 150,000 miles.

Miami Lakes Mitsubishi Autonomous Vehicle Tech

Mitsubishi Has Autonomous Vehicle Tech After All

Miami Lakes Mitsubishi Autonomous Vehicle Tech

Mitsubishi is entering the autonomous car game, and it’s about time. It’s a surprise this motor company was about to go down last year with all the new vehicles they have coming out. Maybe they were going for dramatic effect, or just needed a helping hand. Either way, after 100 years, Mitsubishi Motors continues to go on strong.

Yeah, it’s been 100 years since Mitsubishi Motors formed in Japan. We wondered what would come of them going forward, and wouldn’t you know it’s one surprise after another. First it was the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross debut at the 2017 Geneva International Motor Show. Then it was the teased Mitsubishi Outlander Sport Limited Edition trim, now hitting dealerships. So what’s next?

Autonomous cars vehicles is what’s next. A lot of crazes are hitting the automotive industry – crossovers and SUVS, hybrids, electric vehicles and trucks, and autonomous cars a.k.a. vehicles that can drive themselves. We were starting to think Mitsubishi Motors was far from entering this race, but they were just warming up. Surprisingly, the autonomous tech they’re discussing came from one of the other Mitsubishi brands, Mitsubishi Electric Corp.

Overview of Mitsubishi’s 2017 Model Lineup!

2017 Mitsubishi ModelsWhether you like crossovers, sedans, fuel efficient cars, or even electric vehicles, Mitsubishi has upgraded their models for the 2017 model year. So let’s take a quick look at some of the highlights for each Mitsubishi model.

2017 Mitsubishi Lancer

The Mitsubishi Lancer is a classic. Many of the Lancer trims are available with AWC or “all-wheel control” for better handling when on the road. The base trim is powered by a 2.0-liter MIVEC engine, granting it 148 horsepower. MIVEC is Mitsubishi’s patented VVT system, a design implemented for performance and fuel economy. The EPA for the Lancer is 27/34 mpg city/highway, so the proof is in the pudding.

Some of the other standard features are 16-inch two-tone alloy wheels, the popular FUSE Hands-Free link system, and a 6.1-inch touchscreen with rearview camera. You’re not going to see many base trim vehicles with a touchscreen and a camera. On the higher end trims, luxury features like leather trim, heated front seats, and premium audio systems are at your fingertips.

The starting MSRP is $17,795 and is backed by the best coverage from Mitsubishi, nearly doubling every other auto brand warranty on the market today.

The New and Improved Mitsubishi Outlander

2016-mitsubishi-outlander_100513595_h

New for the 2016 model year is a totally refreshed Mitsubishi Outlander, enhanced by more than one hundred improvements.

Although the crossover segment is a competitive one, this new Outlander has the distinction of being the only one equipped with a four-cylinder engine and ready to accommodate seven passengers across three rows of seating.

Check out the rest of the Outlander’s offerings, available now at your local Mitsubishi Outlander dealer.

What You Need to Know About the 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander

First of all, Mitsubishi meant business when it revisited this crossover.

According to Mitsubishi Executive Vice President Don Swearingnen, “This is probably the best product we have ever brought to market…We tried to challenge the status quo.”

Mission accomplished, sir.

We’re loving the new commercial and the premise that so many improvements required so many spokespeople.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NlSKQlTvT3c

This crossover comes with two engine options. The base model comes from a 2.4-liter inline four-cylinder engine, rated at 166 horsepower and 162 lb.-ft. of torque. However, drivers can opt for the more powerful 3.0-liter 24-valve V6 engine, generating 224 horsepower and 215 lb.-ft. of torque.

Fuel efficiency is something to celebrate in the Outlander, with the front-wheel drive base engine able to get 31 highway miles and 25 city miles, or 27 mpg combined. All-wheel drive sees a slight dip in those numbers, bringing the figures to 29 city, 24 highway, and 26 combined.

The added power of the V6 compromises the fuel economy slightly, but it’s worth it if you need that extra punch. Expect miles per gallon at an EPA-estimated 21 city miles, 28 highway miles, with 24 miles combined.

Thanks to the new Outlander’s Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT), the acceleration is smooth and strong.

With all of its safety features, including seven air bags, anti-lock braking system with brake assist, active stability control, and tire pressure monitoring, to name just a few, we have every reason to believe that the 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander will continue the legacy of its predecessors as a Top Safety Pick.

Between the third row with seven passenger potential, towing ability (rated at 3,500 pounds), and the Outlander’s solid fuel economy, it’s hard to believe that the new Outlander is even more affordable than any of those that came before it.

Starting at $22,895, the new Outlander is setting the pace in the crossover segment when it comes to affordability without sacrifice. Cars.com actually named the 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander the “Most Affordable 3-Row Crossover.”

Those who have already had the privilege of driving it report a much better ride, improved handling, and a quiet interior.

Without a doubt, the 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander is worth considering for your next crossover purchase.
