Mitsubishi Enters 2021 Rebelle Rally with 2022 Outlander

Mitsubishi Motors North America (MMNA) has been getting involved with the community and charities over the last few years, finding ways to give back and help how it can. 2020 was a year of hardships for many people, and automakers around the world started giving back in the form of donations, resources, and couriers with model units donated to organizations in need of transport. MMNA started its own program in 2018 – “Small Batch – Big Impact” – an initiative aimed at improving the community by producing a small batch of Mitsubishi Motors models and then using them to make a big impact on the community. It eventually spawned MMNA’s Community Utility Vehicle (CUV) Program, with its first donation to nonprofit organization Record the Journey, racing with RTJ in the annual Rebelle Rally. That tradition continues in 2021.

2022 Mitsubishi Outlander Setting a New Standard for SUVs

The 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander SUV is currently the bread-winner for Mitsubishi Motors North America (MMNA). That might not be the story for long, while the automaker shifts its focus to electric vehicle (EV) development and is set to make the new flagship of the automaker the Eclipse Cross PHEV. The original Eclipse Cross recently won a spot in the 2021 AutoPacific Vehicle Satisfaction Awards, so it’s already a great step in the right direction for the new flagship car of Mitsubishi Motors. For now, however, the 2022 Outlander is crushing it in sales and even with the current semiconductor chip shortage, the new SUV is attracting a higher-class crowd and big spenders that will keep Mitsubishi Motors going strong.

It may be surprising to think of an SUV as a luxury vehicle, but these large vehicles have become more than just machines that can handle various driving conditions. We’ve come a long way from the gas guzzlers SUVs once were, and these days, every automaker wants at least one SUV or model they can use to compete in the luxury vehicle class, and not just the mass market. Having sold 6,954 units so far, double the sales of 2020 to date, the new Outlander is forging the path for new and future Mitsubishi models.

Mitsubishi Motors NA Continues Its CUV Program

Mitsubishi Motors North America (MMNA) started a new community program back in 2019 called the “Small Batch – Big Impact” initiative. More than a simple marketing campaign, Mitsubishi Motors got involved with community organizations and non-profit charities to help them in their missions and helping out the local community they serve. Throughout 2020, MMNA gave to multiple charities and donated one of their models, produced specifically for the “small batch” part of the initiative, to several foundations. This act quickly became known as MMNA’s Community Utility Vehicle (CUV) Program, and the latest generous act is a donation of a Mitsubishi Outlander Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) to Middle Tennessee-based nonprofit organization Charis Health Center for six months.

“The Community Utility Vehicle Program amplifies the outreach and impact of small, community nonprofits in a way that only Mitsubishi Motors uniquely can – through loans of efficient, reliable, versatile vehicles…The partnership with Charis Health Center is the latest example of our commitment to safer, healthier communities across the country and at home in Middle Tennessee.” – MMNA Chief Operating Officer Mark Chaffin

The Charis Health Center is a health center for the uninsured in Mt. Juliet, Tennessee. Operated by a small staff and group of dedicated volunteers working together from two clinic locations, the Charis Health Center can benefit from the use of a plug-in hybrid SUV. Not only can the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV offer 24-miles of all-electric range, not needing to gas up between transporting items and medication between clinics, but the Super All-Wheel Control all-wheel drive will help handle all sorts of road conditions. Not only this but the onboard 120-volt outlet in the Outlander PHEV can help power portable medical freezers. Charis can use these to help COVID vaccines and other temperature-sensitive medication.

This isn’t the first act by MMNA to help those in the city of Tennessee. In fact, during the first phase of the Coronavirus, Tennessee was hit by a couple of tornados and horrible storms. Those in Middle Tennessee were in dire need of help, and the Nashville-based Community Resource Center (CRC) went to work. Cooperating with over 100 nonprofit agencies in Middle Tennessee and provides them with new household goods, bedding, kitchenware, cleaning supplies, clothing, and personal hygiene items, the CRC needed as much help as it could get. Having recently moved its manufacturing plant from California to Tennessee, Mitsubishi Motors did the right thing by providing the CRC with a 2020 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV to help with transporting all those items.

Throughout the year, Mitsubishi Motors also used the Small Batch – Big Impact CUV Program to donate a 2020 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross to the Goodie Two Shoes Foundation. Another charity, Goodie Two Shoes provides disadvantaged children with many essential items required for good health and positive development. Mitsubishi Motors has also been returning to some of its racing roots with “Record the Journey”, a non-profit military veteran organization that helps military veterans transition back into civilian life and cope. Mitsubishi Motors donated a Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV to RTJ for the 2020 Rebelle Rally – the longest all-female racing event in the lower 48 states – and won.As Mitsubishi Motors continues to help out its community, you can also help support Mitsubishi. 2021 AutoPacific VSAs Award Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross

With half of 2021 already over, automakers are gearing up for the 2022 model year, already releasing new models and updated features. Mitsubishi Motors had us all in the dark for a while there, but after a shareholder meeting in late June 2021, Mitsubishi discussed its future plans in electric vehicle development. Recently this year, the automaker released the all-new redesigned 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander SUV, bringing its sales up and growing the brand’s popularity. The Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross, skipping a year, has also been revamped for 2022, but the 2020 model had enough spunk to win an award from AutoPacific during the 2021 AutoPacific Vehicle Satisfaction Awards.

Mitsubishi Motors has been going through some changes over the last few years, with talk of a new vehicle soon to replace the aging Outlander PHEV, the automaker’s popular plug-in hybrid SUV. Recently, Mitsubishi announced that a new model will not only replace the Outlander PHEV but will also replace the Mitsubishi Outlander as the flagship of the brand. The new face of Mitsubishi Motors will be an Eclipse Cross plug-in hybrid crossover. The new award from AutoPacific is just another plus for the automaker and the sporty crossover model.

AutoPacific is a trusted name by many automakers, known for its future-oriented automotive marketing research, AutoPacific tends to consult many automotive brands. Consumers also trust AutoPacific to provide them with up-to-date information on the latest and newest vehicles in the market. When looking for a new vehicle, consumers look for reviews to help guide them, and “Best of” lists and awards help highlight the best of the best. The 2021 AutoPacific Vehicle Satisfaction Awards measures owner satisfaction across 36 individual vehicle attributes, covering traits such as driving performance, features, usability, seating comfort, and interior design. Mitsubishi scored at the top of the compact crossover SUV segment, earning higher marks in 32 of the 36 measured attributes. AutoPacific praised the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross for its safety features and its success over competing models, the Jeep Compass, Hyundai Tucson, and Subaru Crosstrek.

“We strive to ensure Mitsubishi vehicles exceed the expectations of the most important critics…our owners…To obtain top-in-class satisfaction marks from our Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross family of owners reinforces that we are delivering performance, design and safety that is changing the way consumers view the brand and its new, redesigned lineup of vehicles.” – Cason Grover, Director of Product Planning, MMNA

The 2021 AutoPacific Vehicle Satisfaction Awards has been going on for 25 years, and now that Mitsubishi Motors is changing things up, starting with a new look for its 2022 lineup, winning this award is a great way to start. Also praised by AutoPacific, the available 2022 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross is already doing well, having received a 5-Star Overall Safety Rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Making forward collision mitigation and lane departure warning as a standard, and making blind-spot warning with lane change assist and rear cross traffic alert available on half of the lineup, the crossover is already a strong contender. You can find your 2022 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross at Miami Lakes Automall Mitsubishi.
