Miami Lakes Automall JDRF Diabetes Disney Run

Do you enjoy a good smile? Have you heard of the Walt Disney World marathons that go on a few times a year? The next one is the Walt Disney World Half Marathon, a 13.1-mile fundraising race to raise money for various charities depending on the race. It takes place January 7, 2017 and it is held to benefit the The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS); runners may choose to raise funds for other causes and campaigns though.

Closer Look at Mitsubishi’s 3 Subcompact Cars

2017 Mitsubishi Subcompact Cars

Subcompact cars! Wait…what’s a subcompact car? It’s a smaller version of a compact car. What’s a compact car? A medium-sized car. Yeah, the definitions are very loose. So why not have an example, or three, of what a good sub-compact car is? Mitsubishi has three types of subcompact cars – the Mitsubishi Mirage, Mirage G4, and Mitsubishi i-Miev.

2017 Mitsubishi Mirage

So first up, let’s talk about Mitsubishi’s Mirage. Averaging 37 mpg in the city, and 43 mpg on the highway, it is one of the most fuel efficient cars in its class. How is it so fuel efficient? It has a 1.2-liter MIVEC DOHC 12-valve 3-cylinder engine coupled with a 5-speed CVT transmission.

“MIVEC” is the name given to Mitsubishi’s variable valve timing design, a process that optimizes a vehicle’s performance, as well as increases its fuel economy. As for the CVT transmission, CVT standards for continuous variable transmission, a design that allows the vehicle to switch between gears at different speeds without losing power or expending extra fuel. Hence, the high fuel economy on the Mirage.

High fuel efficiency isn’t the only thing great about the Mirage though. Its features are plenty, and they all start with the base trim, the Mirage ES. Inside are convenient features like automatic climate control, FAST key entry system, and a Bluetooth hands-free phone system for keeping eyes on the road while able to safely take important calls.

Miami Lakes Mitsubishi Safety

Mitsubishi Safety Highlights

Miami Lakes Mitsubishi Safety

The Mitsubishi Outlander has been heralded as an all-around safety vehicle. It was awarded “Top Safety Pick” by IIHS for four years in a row. Not to mention Mitsubishi vehicles tend to have every safety feature imaginable, from the tech we’ve seen for years to the new stuff. Even better, a lot of these features come standard, so customers of every budget can rest assured their Mitsubishi is more than a hunk of metal.

Features for Improving Driver Control

These are the types of features that a driver is not necessarily “in control of,” because they are standard features, but they return control to the driver in instances where they could lose control. For example, all of the following systems are designed to maintain traction and contact between the wheels and the road. A driver can’t control the tread of their tire or how quickly a tire loses treading, and they can’t control whether or not that tire is keeping a grip of the road.

Systems like Active Stability Control (ASC), Traction Control Logic (TCL), and Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) all work to keep tractive contact between the wheels and the road. ABS is basically an umbrella term for the three, because in all three, the brakes are applied to one of the wheels to maintain control. ASC applies the brakes to the wheels with the most traction if one starts to slip. TCL applies the brakes to a freely spinning wheel (or one that is slipping) and redirects the remaining torque to the others. ABS uses both of these systems to maintain tractive contact in the event of braking. A fourth control system is Hill-Start Assist, which basically just prevents a car from rolling back on a downward incline between the time the driver releases their foot from the brake and applies pressure to the gas pedal.

Miami Lakes Nissan Mitsubishi GT PHEV Concept Paris

What Could the New Mitsubishi + Nissan Partnership Bring?

Miami Lakes Nissan Mitsubishi GT PHEV Concept Paris

If you haven’t heard the news, Nissan is in the process of taking Mitsubishi Motors under their wing. Back in April, Nissan purchased a huge chunk (34 percent) of Mitsubishi Motors. That’s not enough to own the company, but it’s enough to create an important joint partnership, and what is to come in the future could be very exciting.

For starters, we could see a whole new lineup of vehicles in the next few years. With new access to the Nissan/Renault vehicles, a veil will be lifted on design and technology advancements. Mitsubishi is also strong in crossovers, 4x4s, SUVs, and pickup trucks, so we’re bound to see bigger and badder vehicles.

Of course, because the two companies are still separate, we won’t see cars from Mitsubishi that have the Nissan badge slapped on, nor vice-versa. We will however see a large amount of sharing between the two companies. Particularly a sharing of technology design and implementation, a tech swap if you will. Why? Well if there’s one thing we know Mitsubishi is knocking home runs in, it’s in plug-in hybrids.
