Kia America Shares Robo Dog 2022 Super Bowl Ad-Spot
Thursday, February 10th, 2022

Last week, Kia America shared a small teaser of its upcoming Super Bowl Ad. Always one to release a video with their marketing campaign close to the date of the game, this was expected. Every year, Kia America tries to get involved with the community in some way to give back and enrich the lives of others, especially around the time of the Super Bowl. For two years, Kia America used the Great Unknowns Scholarship Program to give gifted youth a chance to go to college and earn a degree. Then there was the Yards Against Homeless initiative, where Kia America donated $1,000 for every yard gained during the Super Bowl game to each of their three charity partners – Covenant House, Positive Tomorrows and StandUp For Kids. This year, the attention is turning to those who can’t speak and need a loving home – animals. That’s why the new Super Bowl ad-spot features a robotic dog.
“The EV6 marks the beginning of Kia as a sustainable mobility solutions provider and is the next step in our shift to electrification…To introduce over 100 million viewers to the Kia EV6, we wanted to juxtapose the future with the emotions we all know and understand today – the love that can be shared between a human and an animal… At Kia, we continue to give back to the communities in which we work and live,” continued Wager. “We looked at issues that needed attention and found that during the pandemic, many animals were adopted only to sadly be returned later, so we wanted to help.” – Russell Wager, vice president, marketing, Kia America

Kia America had a press release about its upcoming 2022 Super Bowl LVI spot, but Kia didn’t share much information about it. Unlike the Great Unknowns Scholarship Program and Yards Against Homeless initiative that debuted before the Super Bowl, this year the automaker seems a little tight-lipped. That may be because this year, they’re working with a charity foundation for those that can’t speak – animals. Announcing a partnership with pet adoption charity, Petfinder Foundation, Kia America wants to help families add a furry friend to the bunch with “Kia Pet Adoption Grants” to help shelter animals find their new homes.
It’s different, but over the last few years, pet adoption has gone up. Whether because of the 2020 quarantine or the “Great Resignation”, people are finding themselves with more time at home and no one to spend it with. So, why not adopt one of man’s best friend, or a feline if you’re not looking forward to walking your dog out in the cold, or the snow, wherever you are. We all know South Florida is a tricky one, sometimes with the cold lasting until March and sometimes April. Regardless, if adopting a pet has been pushed to the side due to a budget, those grants by Kia will sure come in handy.

Kia Corp has been getting involved more and more with the youth community, and their latest announcement of being the official sponsor of the League of Legends championship for the fourth consecutive year, it’s clear this is a smart move that will continue. The demographic tomorrow is the youth of today, and if a company wants to survive, they need to adapt to the new audience. Not just sponsoring events, Kia America has also helped its community in times of disaster during the pandemic, such as donating to Covenant House and other charities, and every year a new Super Bowl Campaign. 2022 will be no different, and here’s a look back at previous endeavors by Kia Corp.
Giving Back
Back in 2019, during the ultimate EDM music festival (the annual Electronic Dance Music (EDM) Festival), Kia America put together an unforgettable experience for partygoers to help them refresh and refuel to party on. One major initiative, Accelerate the Good, was the major jumping off point for Kia going beyond events and giving back to the community in larger ways. Last year, Kia donated $200,000 to the American Red Cross to help with relief efforts after the hurricane season hit New Orleans and the U.S. mainland. That’s in addition to the $250,000 donated to Covenant House.

For the last few years, Kia Motors has been finding more and more ways to connect with the youth and the younger generation. The automaker’s hatchback, the Kia Soul, was a step in the right direction, followed by the Kia Stinger sports car. As the Kia Motors style and lineup continues to change with the likes of the 2020 Kia Telluride and the 2021 Kia Seltos, Kia Motors needs to continue to connect with the demographic that is starting to dominate the auto market. Last year, Kia Motors used its fame and finances to put together the “Great Unknowns” Scholarship and advertised it during the 2019 Super Bowl. This year, the automaker is running a new campaign to fight homeless youth in America.
Homelessness in America is a growing problem in many states. Depending on the area and the city, some have more of a homeless populace than others, but either way, there’s a clear problem. In 2019 alone, more than 4.2 million young people were reported to be experiencing homelessness in the U.S. Charities and foundations have been founded and organized, but they could always use more help. Kia Motors is continuing to give back to the youth in the community by offering financial aid to such charities.
Kia Motors Supports the Youth during the Super Bowl

The Super Bowl recently concluded with the New England Patriots taking home the winnings. During this time of year, many product brands and services are able to put together a great commercial that will hopefully burn into the mind of every viewer so that their product and/or service will be remembered for the many months to come. Who still remembers, “WHASSSSUUUUUP?” Say it aloud, and we’re sure someone nearby will respond appropriately. Well, aside from humor, some brands are reaching out a bit more to the youth. One of these automotive brands is Kia Motors.
The Great Unknown
We actually discussed this advertisement by Kia Motors not too long ago, but not at length because it had yet to have its “official” debut. However, like many, Kia unleashed this ad online weeks before the Super Bowl aired. Kia Motors has actually been getting very involved with the youth lately, partnering with South Korean girl group, BLACKPINK, to sponsor their 2019 World Tour, and becoming the official sponsor of the League of Legends European World Championship.
