We covered a bit of the 2022 New York International Auto Show (NYIAS) that started last week and will continue on through this upcoming weekend (April 15 – 24, 2022). Well, we focused more on the highlights of the new 2023 Kia Niro crossover and new 2023 Kia Telluride SUV. Previewed during the 2022 NYIAS, Kia Corp was sure to put these vehicles front and center. Also taking place during 2022 NYIAS was an auto awards show no doubt, and Kia is flying high after winning multiple marketing honors for its recent “Movement That Inspires” broadcast campaigns.
The recent marketing campaign by Kia have featured Kia’s first entry into the luxury car segment, the Carnival MPV; the automaker’s first all-electric vehicle, the EV6; the latest sports car from the automaker, the K5; and of course the Telluride, the automaker’s largest SUV to date and the latest model to become an electric vehicle (EV) if the design of the Kia EV9 is anything to go by. Seen at the 2022 Chicago Auto Show, it was basically a large, bright blue SUV, but electric. Let’s just call it an electric Telluride for now, and seeing as how the Telluride is one of Kia Corp’s most-awarded SUVs, winning the Triple Crown of Automotive Awards during its first year of release, the Telluride goes on to earn another first, the EDO’s first-ever Automotive TV Advertising Award for “Best Non-Luxury Auto Campaign”.(more…)
Now that the 2019 Geneva International Motor Show has ended, we’ve seen all the auto industry had to offer over nearly two weeks. Kia Motors is one automaker that stood out, not because of a model or concept they debuted, but more of a promise for the future of their lineup. It’s not surprising – many names in the auto industry are starting to bring electric motors and batteries into the mix of their vehicles. Kia Motors, however, may have the most alternative fuel vehicles in their lineup than any other automaker. Not only this, but Kia has been on a mission to change the auto industry and are intent on leading the way. Style, tech, alternative fuel are the cornerstones of the new Kia Motors, but can they deliver?
What pops to mind when talking about Kia Motors and style? Is it the Kia Stinger? Currently the icon for Kia Motors, the Kia Stinger brought a whole new attitude to Kia Motors. The automaker was intent on “designing cars that drive as good as they look,” and the Kia Stinger definitely delivered. Able to surpass costly luxury cars that claim to drive fast, the Kia Stinger’s performance may have been the jumping off point for Kia Motors going GT, while giving all of their new vehicles a little taste of the Stinger’s style.
Making cars that look great is one thing, but a vehicle that performs at its best is definitely the GT line of the Kia Stinger. With different drive modes for sharp turns or a long ride, drivers enjoy getting behind the wheel of a Kia Stinger GT. Now, Kia Motors is coming out with a GT for many of its vehicles, starting with the 2020 Kia Soul, Kia Forte GT, and Kia Rio GT. If the automaker can deliver on performance this well, can they also upgrade the tech?
Popping up at 2018 New York Fashion Week and with five concepts at the 2018 SEMA Auto Show, Kia has gone beyond to show that this SUV is as versatile as a crossover with plenty of personal appeal. The production-ready model isn’t the concept we were promised, but we don’t think anyone was pouring chips into seats that can “read and report the health alerts” of its occupants. Given all of the technology Kia Motors presented at the 2019 Consumer Electronics Show, one could say that the concept features, although not existent in the 2019 debut, may not be that far off. For now, take a look at what the 2020 Kia Telluride debut tells us about the boxy SUV at the 2019 North American International Auto Show, also known as the Detroit Auto Show.
Yes, boxy. The model body does come with its curves, but the front and rear fascia have that robust boxy shape SUVs are known for. This is especially true in the front fascia, where the iconic tiger-nose grille is very prominent in this model. A square hood, vertically stacked headlights, and inverted L-shaped taillights all bring the boxy look together. Kia is intent on calling the Telluride their “largest SUV in the lineup” and making it the new vehicle everyone is talking about.
The time has come – the Kia Telluride hybrid SUV may just be around the corner. We saw the Telluride spy shots in September, and even the Telluride concept at 2018 Fashion Week. During the 2018 SEMA Auto Show, Kia Motors rolled in with modified vehicles, their Kia Forte GT line, and five concepts for the Kia Telluride. Now, within a month of the 2019 North American International Auto Show (also known as the Detroit Auto Show), Kia Motors unwrapped an early holiday present by showing us a production-ready 2020 Telluride with an official teaser video.
“Expect the unexpected, with Kia Design.”
That’s the ending tagline for the above video, stated by Tom Kearns, Chief Designer, Kia Design Center America. Kia Motors is doing something with the Telluride that the automaker has never done before – they’re building a full-size premium SUV. It’s different for the automaker; Kia isn’t known for premium SUVs, just like they weren’t known for sports cars. Well, they surprised everyone when the Kia Stinger came out, and so far it’s a winner. The Kia Stinger has won countless awards throughout 2018.
When designing the Kia Telluride, there was a pretty simple introduction.
IF you thought the 2018 Kia Stinger was done winning awards, then you are mistaken, friend. Having first debuted in 2017 at the 2017 Detroit Auto Show, the sporty sedan from Kia Motors continued to win hearts and awards from all over. The 2018 Kia Stinger is a revolutionary vehicle for Kia Motors and it has set the bar pretty high for the future of sports cars. The amount of power, control and convenience offered in all 2018 Kia Stinger trims is second-to-none.
Back when the 2018 Kia Stinger was first released, every auto blog wanted to get their hands on a new model for a first-drive review. Organizations like AutoGuide.com also made a leap for the Stinger when it came time to survey and test vehicles for their 2018 “Car of the Year” Award. Although going up against several competitors, the Kia Stinger not only won the 2018 Car of the Year award from AutoGuide.com but also the “2018 AutoGuide.com Reader’s Choice Car of the Year Award.”
“It’s the kind of disruptive car that will send its competitors kind of scrambling to keep up. Once you drive it, it really becomes obvious that this [the Kia Stinger] is something special. And this will change things for Kia as a brand and might even change things for the whole industry”. – Jodi Lai, Editor-in-Chief at AutoGuide.com.
Less than a month ago, we talked about the long-awaited reveal of Kia’s The Curve Ahead. The wait is nearly over! In a few days, January 8th, The Curve Ahead promotion will finally come to fruition. Until then however, there’s still plenty of speculation to be had. So let’s get to it.
We placed most of our bets on the Kia GT to finally be released with this promotion, and there’s plenty of reasons why. First, recent spy photos from one of Kia’s recent test drives of an unknown model have certainly piqued an interest. Second, Kia announced that they will be debuting a new sedan at the 2017 North American International Auto Show, and the GT is a sedan. Third, “GT” stands for “Gran Turismo” or high-performance and long-distance driving in comfort and style. Could anything better describe the concepts we’ve seen of the Kia GT?
That all brings us to the media being leaked on Kia’s The Curve Ahead promotional website, thecurveahead.net. Four episodes have been released thus far, and two sections are bound to be updated on January 8th -a gallery with plenty of car pictures and a live webcast most likely taking place during the reveal (don’t quote us on that). Here’s a little run-down of each episode.
