Recap of Success for Kia in 2022

As an automaker, the Kia Motor Corporation has been killing it, lately. Starting off its all-electric lineup with the all-new Kia EV6 hatchback, this automaker had a lot of new releases coming up to separate itself from the industry. The Kia Carnival is putting the automaker in luxury car territory, and plug-in hybrids keep coming out for popular SUVs, like the Kia Sorento Hybrid. This year has been a very active one for the Kia Corp and Kia America, and the many awards the automaker won sing its praise all-year-long.

Starting with a bang, the Kia EV6 won “Car of the Year” award at the prestigious 2022 What Car? Awards, and World Champion at the Inaugural “Best Cars of the Year” Awards. The EV6 is really the shining achievement for the automaker, winning many awards in 2022, such as the 2022 GOOD Design Awards for the EV6 and Kia Carnival, the EV6 winning 2022 European Car of the Year, and the 2022 Red Dot Design Award won by the EV6 (to name a few). It wasn’t always just one model shining either – many awards were worn as a group effort with many models taking home the gold. This happened for Kia during the 2022 Car and Driver Editors’ Choice Awards, the four Kia models at the 2022 NYIAS, several Kia models named in MotorTrend’s Ultimate Car Rankings, four Kia models winning 2022 Strategic Vision TQI Awards, and overall named “Manufacturer of the Year” by TopGear.com. On top of this, five awards were won from the J.D. Power 2023 ALG Residual Awards for Kia, and Kia won 2023 Vincentric Best CPO Value in America.

Three Kia SUVs Land on KBB 2023 Best Buy Awards List

Every year, automotive publications and journalists put together their “Best of” lists, hold competitions, and conduct studies. As we near ever-closer to 2023, we’ll see the last winnings roll in, and the most recent comes from a very well-known name in the industry – Kelley Blue Book (KBB). Putting together its “Best Buy Awards”, several Kia models have been named on this list as the best model in their respective category. The models listed are the Kia Telluride, Seltos, and Sportage Plug-in Hybrid sport-utility vehicles.

Kia Wins Best SUV Category for Sportage Hybrid during Motor1.com 2022 Star Awards

If there is one automaker to read about when it comes to electric vehicles (EVs) and battery-electric vehicles (BEVs), it’s definitely Kia Corp. In cooperation with its parent group, the Hyundai Motor Group (HMG), the two have reported an investment of more than USD 10 billion by 2025 to further EV production goals. Following a meeting with U.S. President Joe Biden in Seoul on May 22, 2022, HMG reported a stronger partnership with U.S. public and private entities to create more green products, like the Kia EV6 and the Sportage PHEV, both growing in popularity. In fact, Motor1.com just named the 2023 Kia Sportage Hybrid during the Motor1.com 2022 Star Awards.

Last reported (May 2022), 2,417 units of the all-new Sportage HEV were sold. The 2023 Kia Sportage Hybrid model was revealed back in 2021, and like other models in the Kia lineup, success and popularity will usually lend itself to a greener option. Earlier this year, February 2022, Kia debuted the 2023 Kia Sportage PHEV, a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle. Making up the electric part of the powertrain is a 13.8-kWh battery powering a 66.9-kW electric, able to deliver an all-electric range (AER) of 32 miles. To keep the PHEV in style and make it more capable, the Sportage PHEV was also to get its own X-Line model, and the 2023 Kia Sportage PHEV  X-line debuted in August 2022. Making it into a prestigious list by Motor1.com, the Sportage Hybrid continues to outshine the competition as we wait for the Sportage PHEV to hit dealership lots.

Kia EV6 Earns 2022 TSP+ Rating from IIHS

Whilst automakers work towards a greener future with electric vehicles (PHEV) and other alternative fuel sources, car technology and safety has also been increasing. We try not to play favorites, but Kia Corp has been upping the ante for entertainment and safety features for years now. Starting with the Kia Drive Wise Package, an assortment of advanced safety features can be added to any vehicle to increase the safety of the driver and passengers. In 2022, Kia earned eight Top Safety Pick and Plus ratings from the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS), and before the year’s end, the automaker can add one more to the list – the 2023 Kia EV6 has been awarded the IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK+ (TSP+) rating for 2022.

Four Kia Models Win Award During 2023 Vincentric Best CPO Value in America

With the new model year already in full swing, consumers aren’t just looking for new cars. Used cars can also be of interest when in the market for an automobile. With all the research available for consumers today, finding out the best new cars or used cars on the market can be a very valuable tool. Organization Vincentric has been concluding its awards for value when it comes to Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) vehicles, and recently, Kia was named as the winner of the 2023 Vincentric Best Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) Value in America award for the Passenger Car category.

Over the years, Kia has been improving its model lineup and going all electric. The automaker has also extended their CPO warranty coverage, keeping the value of used vehicles high for years to come. Each used vehicle gets a tune-up to meet CPO vehicle standards, and must pass 164-point Quality Assurance inspection by a certified Kia technician. To ensure the vehicle isn’t already a potato, no vehicle older than five years and or more than 60,000 miles on it aren’t eligible to be a CPO program. The Kia CPO warranty then provides coverage for 10 years/100,000 miles from the original in-service date, plus an additional Platinum Coverage package for one year/12,000 miles, beginning at the time/mileage of CPO purchase.

Hyundai Motor Group Signs New Memorandum with SK to Secure EV Battery Source

In November 2022, the Hyundai Motor Group (HMG) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with SK On Co., Ltd. This leading electric vehicle (EV) battery manufacturer is no stranger to the automotive group, parent of Kia Corp, having agreed to collaborate back in September 2020 to design new forms of battery management services and battery reuse and recycling. For the new year and upcoming models, HMG and Kia have many EVs planned between now and 2030. For that, they need a lot of EV batteries, and this new MOU between HMG and SK will help secure a fresh supply of EV batteries, especially in North America.

“Through the EV battery MOU, we will be able to further accelerate our efforts to secure EV leadership in the North American market…We expect the stable supply of EV batteries from SK On will also enable us to contribute to emissions reduction and meet climate goals in the market.” – Executive Vice President Kim

EV batteries can sometimes get a bit of a bad rep in the auto market, especially amongst consumers. Many Americans are still a little timid when it comes to going green and fully electric. Stopping at a gas station is so much easier with services around just about every corner, and it’s a lot more probable that a consumer would stop somewhere for a few minutes versus 20 or 30 minutes. When it comes to recharging a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) or EV, that’s how long it can take to actually get a worthwhile charge, and people don’t really have that kind of time on the way to work or an appointment/meeting.

Kia EV6 and Telluride Earn Top Honors During 2022 Los Angeles Auto Show

As 2022 finally comes to an end, more and more automotive publications and groups will be finalizing award shows, “Best of” lists, and their pick for high ranking greatness. Kia America has been doing a lot of this lately, especially with J.D. Power during its 2023 ALG Residual Awards. Kia had five models take home the gold with its best year-over-year improvement of any mass market brand. Expect awards every week as more groups pick their favorites, and this week, it’s the Hispanic Motor Press. The 2022 Kia EV6 and 2023 Kia Telluride have both been recognized as the best vehicles of the year for Hispanic consumers.

TopGear Names Kia “Manufacturer of the Year”

Kia Corp/America has been rocking the auto industry as of late with the amount of awards the automaker has been racking up as of late. Recently, Kia America took home five awards from the J.D. Power 2023 ALG Residual Awards with five models earning the highest ranking in their class, and the 2022 Kia EV6 and 2023 Kia Telluride have both been recognized by the Hispanic Motor Press during the 2022 Los Angeles Auto Show. As 2022 concludes, the awards will surely continue, and just this week, Kia was named “Manufacturer of the Year” at the 2022 TopGear.com Awards. Way to finish on a high note!

Kia Takes Home Five Awards from J.D. Power 2023 ALG Residual Awards

Many automotive publications and organizations are finally wrapping up their studies, surveys, and lists of “best vehicles to buy” or how well a vehicle ranks against its competitors. We’re bound to see a couple more before the end of the year, but one reputable name recently released the results of a study that takes a look at more than which vehicles in the market are the best today. Another factor to consider when buying a new car is how well it will fair in years from now, and whether the consumer van make a pretty penny when selling or trading it in. That’s called “resale value” and J.D. Power recently concluded its 2023 U.S. ALG Residual Value Awards. Competition was tough, but Kia Corp took home five awards this year with the best year-over-year improvement of any mass market brand.

Kia America Holds Year-End Donation Event with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital

Kia America started its “Accelerate the Good” initiative back in 2019, and every year, the automaker does a lot of good. Most of this comes in the form of donations, sometimes monetary, like the $500,000 donation to the American Red Cross to help those affected by Hurricane Ian, and the $600,000 in donations to four Bryan County charities to push the economy a bit and open plenty of jobs for the Hyundai Motor Group (HMG) Metaplant. Other times, Kia America will customize and/or donate one of their models to an organization with a great purpose, like the recent donation of a custom 2023 Sportage SUV to Sea Turtle Inc., a non-profit organization based in South Padre Island, Texas that is all about saving sea turtles. To round it all out, possibly the last donation of the year is $1,000,000 between November 11 – December 31, 2022 to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

The high goal is just the minimum Kia America expects to donate. Dependent on sales, a donation is made by Kia for each new Kia vehicle sold and delivered in the U.S during window for donations. Regardless, this wouldn’t be the first time Kia has made such a large donation, or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. This will be the third donation to the hospital by Kia, having donated to St. Jude as part of the 10 millionth Kia vehicle sold in the U.S earlier this year (2022). This new act is to push the initiative further and give consumers a little incentive who would like to help make an impact in a small way.
