There have been a few hiccups with the Kia EV6 First Edition model. Aside from the reservation website going down on June 3rd – which reopened on the 8th – the global chip shortage for semiconductors is going to be a hard hurdle to jump as the year goes on and chips become more scarce. After all, what is an electric vehicle? The First Edition EV6s may be the only units available of this new model, with a limited run of 1500 units. They were all available for reservation on Kia.com, but don’t rush to the manufacturer website. All 1500 units have already been bought up by fans and consumers alike.
“Kia welcomes the first EV6 buyers who join us in this historic movement…Kia’s ‘electric lifestyle’ delivers a unique combination of luxury, performance and technology and the First Edition EV6 will provide owners with an experience all of their own.” – Sean Yoon, president and CEO of Kia North America and Kia America
This shouldn’t be a surprise. Any time an automaker launches a Launch Edition of a new vehicle, or even a special edition, they go fast. Consumers can’t seem to resist the temptation when they see the words “limited” or “special”. On top of the reserved EV6 unit, consumers also got to choose one of three gifts that would come with the EV6 First Edition model. Consumers who reserved a unit could also choose (1) an at-home vehicle charger with a 1000 kWh credit within a national charging network, or (2) an Apple Watch. Personally, I hate Apple products, so I can proudly say over 80-percent of registrants chose the smart option – an at home charger. Seriously though, if buying an electric vehicle, getting an at-home charger just makes sense. For those that picked the smart watch, all it does is allow them to link up with EV6’s suite of Kia Connect services – something you can do with a smartphone, albeit. Bravo on that choice.
The Kia Stinger was the first of many wonderful cars that have recently come from Kia Motors. Dating back to January 2017 when Kia started “The Curve Ahead” promotion, subsequently followed by the 2018 Kia Stinger making its first debut at the 2017 Detroit Auto Show, many were blown away by the new Kia sports car. Since then, the Kia Stinger has been all over the world, making statements and turning heads with its revolutionary looks and performance. Following its late-2017 early-2018 release, the 2018 Kia Stinger has won awards, filmed plenty of promos, and now, a new custom limited edition pops up every month. Check out what’s new today for the Kia Stinger.
First off, let’s do a little recap since the 2018 Kia Stinger was unveiled to the world. Before the Kia Stinger was released, there were many promotions for it popping up. The first was “The Curve Ahead”, but following its debut was the Stinger Runway Racing Challenge during New York Fashion Week in September 2017. During this time, a chunk of New York City was turned into a fully functioning race track to test and display the true power of the Kia Stinger. The drivers behind the wheel were some of the biggest names in fashion, music, sports, and entertainment.
Following its release, award after award was, well, awarded to the 2018 Kia Stinger. AutoGuide.com was judging a selection of cars in early 2018 with the Stinger being one of them. When it came time to survey and test vehicles for their 2018 “Car of the Year” Award, the Kia Stinger not only won the “2018 Car of the Year” award from AutoGuide.com but also the “2018 AutoGuide.com Reader’s Choice Car of the Year Award.” The fancy sports car also went on to win MotorWeek’s 2018 “Best of the Year” award, a “2018 iF Design Award” for its striking and original appearance, and during its stay at the 2018 Detroit Auto Show, the 2018 Kia Stinger won “Best Production Car of the Year” and the “2018 Shift Award Vehicle of the Year” during the latest award ceremony hosted by Roadshow by CNET.
