It wasn’t that long ago we were talking about the Kia Stinger sports car getting a mid-cycle refresh. Although still fairly new, a performance car wasn’t what many would expect from Kia Motors, an automaker with a focus on safety and alternative fuel and hybrid vehicles. The Kia Stinger proved to be an award-winning vehicle, with the first few rounds of deliveries disappearing from dealership lots in days. This sports car was even faster and more affordable than many high-end luxury sports cars. We’re not sure what happened, but a refresh is in the mix, and tweaks for the new 2021 Kia Stinger GT are already popping up in spy shots.

Automakers are always tight-lipped when it comes to new and upcoming products. Not only does one want to avoid unnecessary competition with a new project but confirming many features and then not delivering is a sore-spot for consumers in the auto market. The 2020 Kia Telluride is a perfect example of that. When first greenlit as a concept, the Kia Telluride had oodles of cool technology. And yet, not much of that cool technology made it into the final Kia Telluride SUV, although the Telluride is clearly an award-winner of its own, having won the “Triple Crown of Automotive Awards” in 2019.

Kia Motors Rumor About a Kia Optima GT

When Kia Motors announced that the automaker was going to start producing a GT-Line for some of its vehicles, there were questions as to which models would receive the high-performance package. Like with their hybrid lineup, if Kia Motors is going GT, then they’re going to test the GT-Line on their most popular models. That means the debut of the Kia Rio GT, specs on the 2020 Kia Forte GT, the 2020 Kia Soul GT, and the Kia Optima GT are at the top of the list. We like to think it all started with the Kia Stinger GT. A fast and affordable sports car that’s even faster than some of the world’s most luxurious sports cars. Some of us are waiting on that Kia Optima GT, what with how similar the Kia Optima and Kia Stinger are, and recent news sheds some light on some of the big changes coming to the Kia Optima lineup.

It makes sense that the Kia Optima is also on the list for the GT-Line. The original Kia Optima was so popular that it gave rise to some of Kia Motors first steps into the alternative fuel market with the Kia Optima Hybrid and Kia Optima Plug-in Hybrid. Plus, there’s already some changes being made to the Kia Optima for the 2021 model year, mostly in the name of an improved design for the next-generation of the vehicle. In 2021, the Kia Optima will feature a new sporty front and rear fascia and a full-width LED taillight bar giving it more of a sports car feel than a family sedan. If that’s the case, then the rumors that Kia will be introducing a Kia Optima GT model could be true.

Kia Motors is the Automaker Changing the Industry

Now that the 2019 Geneva International Motor Show has ended, we’ve seen all the auto industry had to offer over nearly two weeks. Kia Motors is one automaker that stood out, not because of a model or concept they debuted, but more of a promise for the future of their lineup. It’s not surprising – many names in the auto industry are starting to bring electric motors and batteries into the mix of their vehicles. Kia Motors, however, may have the most alternative fuel vehicles in their lineup than any other automaker. Not only this, but Kia has been on a mission to change the auto industry and are intent on leading the way. Style, tech, alternative fuel are the cornerstones of the new Kia Motors, but can they deliver?

Style

What pops to mind when talking about Kia Motors and style? Is it the Kia Stinger? Currently the icon for Kia Motors, the Kia Stinger brought a whole new attitude to Kia Motors. The automaker was intent on “designing cars that drive as good as they look,” and the Kia Stinger definitely delivered. Able to surpass costly luxury cars that claim to drive fast, the Kia Stinger’s performance may have been the jumping off point for Kia Motors going GT, while giving all of their new vehicles a little taste of the Stinger’s style.

Making cars that look great is one thing, but a vehicle that performs at its best is definitely the GT line of the Kia Stinger. With different drive modes for sharp turns or a long ride, drivers enjoy getting behind the wheel of a Kia Stinger GT. Now, Kia Motors is coming out with a GT for many of its vehicles, starting with the 2020 Kia Soul, Kia Forte GT, and Kia Rio GT. If the automaker can deliver on performance this well, can they also upgrade the tech?

Why Choose the Kia Rio?

After all the talk about Kia Motors turning into a GT automotive brand, there was a lot of speculation about which vehicles could benefit from a GT. They had to be real winners of the Kia Motors lineup. After all, it would seem that the already popular Kia Stinger sports car started the GT theme with its three “GT” trims. It didn’t take too much time for Kia to name a few winners – the 2020 Kia Soul GT, the 2019/20 Kia Forte GT, and the Kia Rio GT. We all know the Kia Soul will always be funky, and the Forte holds a bit of class. Although the Kia Rio has been around for a bit, it’s still one of those models that fly under the radar. Let’s take a look at what makes this sedan so great, and why Kia chose it for their first round of GT models.

When it comes to the U.S. market, small cars are all but dead. Big name Ford pulled all of their sedans from American shores, except for their beloved Mustang, practically giving up the game. Still, in the midst of what seems like a dying age for sedans, with a quickly saturating SUV and crossover market, Kia Motors is willing to back their Kia Rio.

A New Refreshed 2019 Kia Forte Is a Great Catch

With Kia Motors changing the focus of their auto brand with a new GT lineup, Kia will soon shake the auto market once again. Just like the automaker did with the Kia Stinger, the vehicle that started it all with its own GT trim, the new GT-Line from Kia will mark a whole new age for the brand. It all begins with the 2019 Kia Forte GT, debuted during the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show, and in Korea prior. Before the GT-Line takes over though, take a look at what makes the new 2019 Kia Forte so great.

Power

For consumers that want a spacious vehicle that is fuel-efficient while delivering performance, the 2019 Kia Forte can foot the bill. Kia Motors is known for making vehicles with spacious cabins, like the Kia Optima and Kia Stinger. The cabin is also pretty comfortable, allowing us to enjoy the 147 horsepower of the naturally aspirated 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder engine under the hood.

Optimized with dual continuously variable valve timing and multi-point injection fuel delivery, this engine comes paired to a six-speed manual transmission that comes standard on the base, but an intelligent variable transmission (IVT) with Sportmatic on the rest of the lineup (optional on the base). The engineering lends itself to a fuel economy of 27/37 mpg city/highway for the Forte FE with manual transmission, 31/41 mpg city/highway with the IVT. The rest of the lineup comes with a combined fuel economy of 34 mpg. On average, most consumers will have about 35 mpg over several hundred miles – not bad at all.

What Makes the Kia Stinger an Icon?

When it comes to the Kia Stinger sports car, it was some spectacle when it first released in early 2018. The 2018 Kia Stinger was the first model year for the new vehicle, and it instantly won many awards. Actually, the Kia Stinger won awards all year. It’s one car that breaks the sports car mold, and the Kia Stinger is faster and more affordable than many of its competitors. With all of this going for it, one has to wonder…Why wouldn’t Kia Motors name this their new halo car? With a new Kia GT-Line set for the icon of the brand in 2020, let’s look at the 2018 Kia Stinger GT, the car that started it all.

So Much Style

First off, it doesn’t matter what tier is being driven. Whether behind the wheel of the Kia Stinger base trim (2.0L) or the high-tier GT2, this sports car is turning heads wherever it goes. Designed by the award-winning designer, Peter Schreyer, not only does the Kia Stinger command attention, but it also incites a lot of curiosity. Not many consumers are used to the blend of luxury and performance aesthetics when it comes to Kia Motors.

The fastback shape is so popular, it’s bleeding into other Kia models going forward. Because standard features are shared so well across the lineup, it’s hard to point out anything that makes the GT trim more stylish than the others. They all deserve a little praise.

The Kia Stinger GT – Fast and Affordable

Miami Lakes Automall Kia Ktinger GT Fast Affordable

The Kia Stinger is one sports car that has made an impact on the auto industry. Shortly after its release, the Kia Stinger won many awards and showed a whole new path for Kia Motors to take. Comfortable cars that were also known for their performance was a niche in the auto market that was lacking – known as gran turismo cars, or “GT” cars. To capitalize on that, Kia Motors has started a GT Line with their Kia Forte GT. The Kia Stinger and its GT trims started this, and some would say it can be traced back to how comfortable the Kia Stinger is as well as how well it performs against some of the most notorious “fast” cars – including the Ford Mustang.

Kia Stinger vs Luxury

There are many luxury cars out there that tout a lot of speed with a price tag to match, but when put up against the Kia Stinger GT, many vehicles fell short. The 2018 Kia Stinger GT has a starting MSRP of $38,350 (plus destination fee). Powered by a twin turbocharged 3.3-liter DOHC V6 engine that can generate 365 horsepower and 376 lb-ft of torque, the 2018 Kia Stinger GT can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 4.7 seconds.

The Porsche Panamera, powered by a turbocharged 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 engine was nearly a whole second slower, able to accelerate up to 60 mph in 5.2 seconds. The Audi A7, powered by a supercharged 3.0-liter V6 engine, had the same record. A Mercedes-Benz CLS 550, a BMW 540i, and even the Jaguar F-Type – all of these vehicles easily cost more than $50k, and yet a consumer can get a vehicle that’s faster than all of them for less than $40k.

Kia Forte GT Specs Update

Miami Lakes Automall 2020 Kia Forte GT

Miami Lakes Automall 2020 Kia Forte GT

Wow, did Kia Motors blow the roof off of the SEMA 2018 Auto Show or what? Even if the Specialty Equipment Market Association isn’t known for automotive parts (which we doubt, given the reception of the auto show), Kia Motors still made a statement when they rolled in with five concepts for their upcoming Kia Telluride SUV. We also got to see a modified Kia Stinger GT by DUB Magazine, and most importantly, the first bits of the new Kia GT Lineup. What? You haven’t heard? Oh yeah, Kia Motors is all about Gran Turismo cars now.

Showing up at SEMA 2018 was none other than the Kia Forte GT, having previously debuted in Korea and now in America. There were only small tidbits released from the show at first – 201hp turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine, front-wheel drive, a set of 18-inch wheels – that’s all good. What else?

Then the press release from Kia Media came out, and hoo-boy, does it got some serious specs to share. 2020 is going to be a fun year for Kia Motors, with the Kia Forte GT and 2020 Kia Soul slated to come out soon, with the latter showing up at the 2018 LA Auto Show at the end of November, 2018. No joke, this Forte is already looking amazing.

“The fantastic capabilities of our team of engineers really shined in the development of the Stinger and we’re thrilled to continue injecting a bit more sport into some of the other models in the lineup…Whether you want a practical commuter or performance compact sedan, there’s now a Forte that appeals to several types of car shoppers. The Forte is already one of our top sellers, and we believe adding more diversity to the model line will appeal to a broader range of consumers.” – Orth Hedrick, executive director, Car Planning and Telematics, KMA.

Kia Rolls into SEMA 2018 with New Concepts

Hot dang, Kia Motors knows how to keep a crowd guessing. Originally, Kia Motors was only thought to be showing off two vehicles modified by DUB at the 2018 SEMA Auto Show, like when they showed off the Kia Stinger that was modified by West Coast Customs last year. As it turns out, Kia was rolling in to show off a lot more than two slightly modified vehicles. Like we all expected, the Kia Telluride did show up, but we’re seeing quadruple with these concepts. Plus, the new GT Line from Kia Motors made an appearance as well.

The Mods

Okay, so first there was a teaser of a modified Kia Stinger GT and a modified K900. In partnership with DUB Magazine, both vehicles were given a bit of a makeover. Just when we thought the performance of the Kia Stinger GT couldn’t get any better, DUB added widebody fender flares, 22-inch wheels, a new exhaust, an air intake, and an air-adjustable suspension. To match the interior with the exterior, a lovely black and red color combination with leather upholstery takes the cabin to a whole new level.

Going with a similar path, the Kia K900 received 24-inch wheels, an air suspension for a smoother ride, and leather upholstery. To add a little color, DUB went with electric blue body paint and black accents to transform the K900. Lastly, Kia added a specially developed multimedia system just for this mod.

Kia Going GT

We discussed the upcoming Kia Motors GT Lineup, and we were almost 100-percent certain we saw the 2019 Kia Forte GT unveiled in Korea. And yes, the 2020 Kia Forte GT was displayed at the 2018 SEMA Auto Show. Due for release next summer, the powertrain was confirmed to be a 201hp turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine, front-wheel drive was announced as the only drivetrain available, and a set of 18-inch wheels comes standard. Maybe a later model will get that new transfer case Kia Motors is working on for the Kia Stinger GT.

Kia Telluride Concepts

Also showing up at SEMA 2018 were five Kia Telluride concepts. Slated to be released in 2020, the Kia Telluride still feels far away, but after showing up at 2018 Fashion Week in New York, the Telluride has shown it can be a versatile SUV. So if that’s the case, Kia Motors may be curious about testing possible trim concepts to get an idea of what consumers will be looking for or find interesting.

The stylish and outdoor-based Kia Telluride from Fashion Week returned to SEMA, along with the Telluride Horizon Roamer, Cadet Leader, Desert Drifter and Baja Glider. Each concept has its own flair while being built to tackle tough trails. Going by the above image, these are from left-to-right.

Yes, tough trails. As in an off-road vehicle, as in Jeep® has some healthy competition. Equipped to take on the Rubicon trail, the Kia Telluride Horizon Roamer comes with several hardcore off-road accessories, including a custom brush guard and skid plates, a straight-pipe exhaust located in the rear, and a snorkel for some deep water fording. Kia tops off this Telluride concept with a set of Black Rhino 32-inch wheels.

The second concept in line is the Telluride Baja Glider. With a number of unique features, a dark black paint job and a curved LED light bar attached to the roof separate this trim from the others. Except, like all the trim concepts, the Baja Glider rides in on a set of Black Rhino 32-inch wheels, wrapped in Milestar Patagonia mud terrain tires.

Okay, now we’re really seeing Kia aiming to compete with Jeep. Colored with a unique army green and matte black paint job, the Cadet Leader is basically the Horizon Roamer in camouflage. The Cadet Leader rides on Black Rhino 32-inch wheels, also wrapped in Milestar Patagonia mud terrain tires. This concept comes with a brush guard with a skid plate, a rear tube bumper with a skid plate, and a modified straight pipe exhaust.

Like the new Desert Hawk planned for the Jeep Compass, Kia Motors has their own desert-based SUV. Given another military look with a tan and black paint job, this Telluride looks built to go on adventures. Mounted on the roof is a roof rack with a light bar, and the front fascia also comes with a brush guard. There’s also roof-mounted rotopacks for extra gasoline when far out into the sandy dunes.

That’s all for now. Kia Motors kept their presentation tight-lipped, but in the end, wowza! What an entrance, and with plenty to of concepts and vehicles to show off. Stay up to date with more SEMA and Kia Motors news by following Miami Lakes Kia social media.

Kia Forte GT Unveiled?

Miami Lakes Automall 2019 Kia Forte GT Debuts in Korea Featured

Miami Lakes Automall 2019 Kia Forte GT Debuts in Korea

Wow, it seems like Kia Motors is nonstop with news about its upcoming vehicles. Everyone is loving the refreshed 2019 Kia Sorento, the new Kia Telluride SUV at Fashion Week 2018 gave us a whole new look at Kia SUV style, and we’ve heard the good news about the Kia Niro EV fuel efficiency, although the numbers keep changing (for the better). Most recently, Kia Motors has decided to break off from the Hyundai Motor Group path of performance and turn Kia Motors into a GT brand. We’ve heard tidbits about GT vehicles and concepts, but news about several GT models is popping up, including the return of the Kia Stinger GT4 concept as an electric-coupe.

Going GT

So, a “GT” car is also known as a “Grand Touring” car. Grand Touring vehicles tend to be an automobile in the style of a coupe, sometimes built for only two people, and designed to operate at high speeds while still keeping passengers comfortable. For instance, the Dodge Challenger GT is a four-passenger two-door coupe with all-wheel drive. The Kia Stinger is starting to lean in this direction.

The Kia Stinger is possibly the first Kia Motors vehicle to get the GT tag, with the Kia Stinger GT, GT1, and GT2 trims. It would also seem like the Stinger started a wave, and not just in terms of looks – we can already see several vehicles from the Kia Motors lineup borrowing the coupe style for future model years. The new craze is turning vehicles into agile GT cars, like the Optima GT, Kia Soul GT, Kia Rio GT, and most notably, the Kia Forte GT. More on the Kia Rio GT next week.
