So, who’s tired of hearing about the 2020 Kia Telluride? Yeah, not us either. It seems like every couple of weeks, the Kia Telluride wins an award. In 2019, it was non-stop, leading to the Kia Telluride winning the “Triple Crown of Automotive Awards”. Well, there’s no stopping this train, being the largest SUV in the Kia Motors lineup, but this time the lovely Kia Soul EV joins the Kia Telluride in winning awards during the 2020 World Car Awards. Kia Motors won big at the 2020 World Car Awards with the Kia Telluride winning “World Car of the Year” and the Kia Soul EV named as the “World Urban Car”.

2020 World Car Awards

The World Car Awards (WCA) is a program initiated, organized, and conducted by automotive journalists from a variety of backgrounds. Every year, the World Car Awards are held to reflect the reality of the global marketplace, as well as recognize exceptional vehicles, and to reward and inspire excellence, leadership, and innovation in the ever-changing automotive industry. Going into its 16th year, there’s no stopping the WCA from naming their favorites. With an independent international jury consisting of 86 highly experienced, well-respected automotive journalists from 24 countries across the globe. Although not meant to compete with existing national and regional Car of the Year programs, can we really ignore another award for the 2020 Kia Telluride?

We’ve discussed how Kia Motors is connecting with the younger generation in the past. The automaker used the Super Bowl to advertise their Great Unknowns Scholarship – instead of hiring another celebrity to drive one of their vehicles, they opted for a good cause instead. Recently, Kia Motors became the official sponsor of two very different from popular youth past times. One is their sponsorship of the K-Pop World Tour of BLACPINK. The other is their official sponsorship of the League of Legends European Championship (For Demacia!) Now, they’re connecting to those of us who find shopping online the easiest way to get what we need (or want) quickly. Consumers that drive an electric or plug-in hybrid Kia Motors model can now order a home charger and installation through Amazon (amzn.to/2TQnuf5).

Yes, recently Kia Motors America (KMA) announced its partnership with Amazon Home Services and their new program for Kia plug-in vehicle consumers. Like the regular service, instead of needing to call up a hotline or customer service and planning out the best time and date, consumers can click on the link above and will find a program with Amazon where technicians can install the electric vehicle charging stations at the customer’s house or office. Kia Motors says buying and installing the home charging station will be as easy as purchasing anything else on Amazon, possibly even through Alexa.

Kia Motors has always been an automaker quick to embrace change it seems. Their lineup is one of the most expansive and welcoming of alternative fuel vehicles. They have the Kia Soul EV, the Kia Niro hybrid, and Kia Niro Hybrid Plug-in. The 2020 Kia Telluride went into production, and one day Kia Motors spoke of turning it into a hybrid SUV. We thought Kia was going to take a break from alternative fuel after they made a lot of commotion at the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show with the 2020 Kia Soul EV, and the 2019 Kia Niro EV finding its way to city streets soon enough. Why take a break with all that success? Kia Motors teases a new electric concept for the 2019 Geneva Motor Show.

That’s right, Kia Motors is also bringing a new concept to Geneva. Oddly enough, Kia Motors in Mitsubishi Motors seem to be in-sync these days. Both automakers brought new autonomous technology to the 2019 Consumer Electronics Show, and now Kia will be debuting a new model at the 2019 Geneva International Motor Show alongside Mitsubishi. Maybe it’s just a coincidence?

Electric Vehicles. When consumers hear that blend of words, they may have the fear of being stranded in the middle of nowhere because their electric motor battery died and an electric charging station is nowhere in sight. That’s not necessarily true – especially in South Florida. Downtown Miami has many electric charging stations, and more EV charging stations are popping up in Brickell, South Beach, and Wynwood. Charging an electric vehicle gets easier every year, and with helpful apps like PlugShare, anyone with a smartphone can find the closest charging station to them. Automotive brands out there are taking notice, and the Hyundai Motor Group, owner of Kia Motors, has recently finalized a partnership with EVgo to make finding charging stations easier.

EVgo and Kia Motors

EVgo is the largest electric vehicle (EV) charging network in the United States. Operating as an app, EVgo works much like PlugShare. PlugShare can shows consumers all kinds of charging stations and filter the results, displays a Google Maps-type map to show the driver local charging stations on-the-go, as well as provide details about each. For EVgo, users would get similar features, able to get a quick look at available charges. That’s about to change with this new partnership.

Like the 2019 Kia Niro EV at the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show, the 2020 Kia Soul EV took the stage. With Kia Motors expanding its alternative fuel vehicle lineup, like the Kia Niro, Kia Niro plug-in hybrid, and the upcoming Kia Telluride hybrid SUV, the Kia Soul EV is due for a bit of a refresh. Before the 2018 LA Auto Show, several press conferences were held by automotive brands to show off what they have coming up, and the Soul EV is one of them. With a full press release sharing all the details, we can finally talk all about the new 2020 Kia Soul EV.

Battery and Performance

It would seem the 2020 Kia Soul EV is sharing some new technology with the 2019 Kia Niro EV. The new Soul EV now comes with a new state-of-the-art liquid-cooled lithium ion polymer 64 kWh battery hooked up to a new electric motor that can generate 201 horsepower and 291 lb-ft of torque. Kia also stated that the Kia Soul EV can be charged at about 100 kW for a 50-percent charge up when using Combined Charging System (CCS) DC fast-charge, standard equipment for the 2020 Kia Soul EV.

Isn’t it a little odd we haven’t heard anything about the popular Kia Soul hatchback in awhile? Sure, the Kia Soul has the best of everything, and when it comes to the “Coolest Cars Under $20K”, the Kia Soul makes the list. Maybe it’s because Kia Motors is focused on the new Kia GT Line, starting with the Kia Rio GT, Kia Forte GT, and eventually the Kia Optima GT and Kia Soul GT. The 2019 Kia Soul is out, but Kia Motors clearly has plans to already knock it off its pedestal, because the all-new 2020 Kia Soul and Kia Soul EV are already set to debut during the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show.

Los Angeles Auto Show

Known as “The City of Angels”, Los Angeles is a large auto show held at the Los Angeles Convention Center every year. Endorsed by the Greater Los Angeles New Car Dealers Association, the LA Auto Show usually begins in late November/early December, and lasts for a little over a week. Last year, the 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL popped up in LA, so we wonder what we’ll see this year, including the new Kia Soul and Kia Soul EV.

The Benefits of Driving an Electric Vehicle

Miami Lakes Automall Benefits Driving Electric

Miami Lakes Automall Benefits Driving Electric

With the impressive range of the Kia Niro EV, 280 miles, and other electric vehicles by Kia Motors, like the 2018 Kia Soul EV, we thought we’d brush up on electric vehicles 101 and drop some knowledge. We’ve covered electric vehicle charging and the misconceptions about plug-in hybrid vehicles before. But with many people in North America still unsure how hybrid and electric technology works, it might be a good time to inform the masses about all the benefits an electric vehicle can bring. Here are five things to know about electric cars.

The Drive

Driving an electric car will feel a lot more differently than a vehicle powered by the standard internal combustion engine. Not only is an electric vehicle (EV) more silent, although some automakers install a program to mimic an engine noise for consumers who prefer to hear the motor running, but the pull of a gas-powered vehicle when the engine gets going is nearly non-existent. Electric vehicles don’t need to “power up” to get going – all the power they need is already available.

How to drive EVs are also changing the game. With the way technology is moving, one-pedal powertrains are becoming commonplace. A one-pedal powertrain means the cockpit only comes with one pedal and an emergency brake pedal. To accelerate or to decelerate, the driver puts pressure on or alleviates pressure from the accelerator like usual, but when decelerating with a one-pedal powertrain, the car will be brought to a stop naturally. The emergency brake pedal is available for instances where the driver needs to stop immediately. Plus, many alternative fuel vehicles come with regenerative braking to recharge the battery when bringing the vehicle to a stop.

Kia and Chevrolet Are the Best Options for an EV

It’s happening. Automakers are finally hitting the alternative fuel market in full force. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is joining the EV market, but automakers like Kia Motors have been on the upswing of hybrids and electric vehicles for years. As more companies join the new gold rush, there will be more variety and choices for the consumer, and less pollution for the environment. It’s a win-win, with plenty of benefits for both parties. Recently, AutoGuide took a look at the many electric vehicles out there, and named the Kia Soul EV and Chevrolet Bolt EV as two of the vehicles consumers should consider if looking into an all-electric vehicle.

Kia

Kia Motors has many hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and electric vehicle (EV) choices, and the lineup of such vehicles is growing. Just the other day, WardsAuto heralded Kia Motors for EV technology and hybrid options. The 2018 Kia Soul EV comes in two trims, EV and EV+, and both are run by a permanent magnet AC synchronous electric motor with regenerative braking, powered by a 30 kWh lithium-ion polymer battery system with a 6.6kW on-board charger. With the ability to seat five people, and an all-electric range of 0-111 miles (emissions free), this is the perfect carpool vehicle.

Kia Motors is Developing Wireless EV Charging

Wednesday, April 18th, 2018
Miami Lakes Kia EV Charging

Miami Lakes Kia EV Charging

Kia Motors is constantly looking for new ways to incorporate modern technology into its vehicles, and with alternative fuel vehicles on the rise, that means also developing new modern technology to make such vehicles a little more convenient. A few years ago, and still today, alternative fuel vehicles like plug-in hybrids and electric vehicles were a pain to produce, and automakers had to rack up the price to make a profit. As we continue to move forward with technology, alternative fuel vehicles are becoming less costly, and that means automakers like Kia Motors can turn their attention to developing amenities and equipment to make owning and driving alternative fuel vehicles more practical for the average consumer. So let’s talk the bane of every potential plug-in hybrid or electric vehicle driver – recharging.

Problems with Charging Up

We’ve covered the basics of electric vehicle charging before, and we’ve compiled a bit of an extensive list of where to find charging stations in Miami, Florida. We won’t cover them too in-depth here, but we would like to cover the current market for electric charging stations. Although production of charging stations is on the rise, and although automakers are making it easier to charge up by offering home installation of Level II (240V) chargers, and organizations like PlugShare.com make finding a local charging station easy, there is still one automaker dominating that industry – Tesla.

Although plummeting in stock due to an inability to meet the production demands of their preorders, Tesla capitalized on the electric vehicle market by becoming an electric-only automaker. However, with Tesla vehicles costing $100,000 plus, when consumers can get the Chevrolet Bolt EV for a fraction of the price and with just as much driving range, and a $7500 federal tax credit, it’s hard to wonder why consumers are going for Tesla. One of the reasons is that, although Tesla is a smaller company, they’re dominating the market for electric vehicle charging as well.

That’s the one thing many automakers have overlooked when it comes to alternative fuel vehicles. Chevrolet, Kia, Mitsubishi, Ford, Nissan, Chrysler, Alfa Romeo, and Hyundai (to name a few), all have at least one plug-in hybrid or electric vehicle in their lineup, but many of them are missing charging station notifications. Not only does Tesla make it easy to see where local charging stations are en route, but Tesla is dominating the market because they dedicate a lot of their funding into creating charging stations. This gives them the advantage.

Kia Motors has plans to change that.
