It’s not hard to keep the 2020 Kia Telluride, the largest SUV in the Kia Motors lineup, in the spotlight. Just about every automotive journalist, media outlet, and news source is drooling over this one-of-a-kind, all-powerful and adventurous SUV. Recently named the 2020 New England Motor Press Association Winter SUV of the Year during its annual Winter Vehicle Driving Event, the Kia Telluride has also been celebrated by well-known name Autotrader. Having popped on two lists, Autotrader has placed the Kia Telluride on its Best New Cars of 2020 List and put the Kia Telluride on its Best Interiors Under $50k List. Now, another well-known name amongst automotive journalists just sank its teeth into the Kia Telluride and also found that it has a really nice interior cabin. WardsAuto placed the Kia Telluride on its “10 Best Interiors List”.
The 2020 Kia Telluride is definitely not alone. Also riding with this large SUV are the 2018 Stinger, 2015 Sedona, 2014 Soul, 2013 Forte, and 2011 Optima – all of which have also landed on WardsAuto “10 Best Interiors List” for their respective model year. The exterior of the Kia Telluride is stylish and screams adventure with all the accessories one can add on. Powered by a 291-hp 3.8-liter V6 and able to offer active on-demand all-wheel drive, the only thing that makes the Telluride better is everything the cabin offers. A perfect combination of aesthetics, comfort, ergonomics, material use, fit-and-finish and user-friendly technology, the WardsAuto accolade holds the Telluride in high regard for the large SUV segment in leadership, innovation, design, safety, driver satisfaction, and overall value.
For the past few years, Kia Motors has taken a large initiative to give back to the community and made sure we all knew it during the Super Bowl. Unlike many automakers that will likely overpay a celebrity to star in their commercial, driving a vehicle, and talking about how much they like driving it to sell it, Kia Motors takes this time to raise awareness about programs the automaker founded to help the youth. During the 2019 Super Bowl, Kia Motors debuted its “Yards Against Homelessness” Initiative, where the automaker claimed to donate $1,000 for every yard gained during the football game to charity partners Covenant House, Positive Tomorrows, and StandUp For Kids. A year ago, Kia Motors started a scholarship program, the Great Unknown, focused on giving youths a chance to further their education. 2020 marks the second year the scholarship is running, with enrollment now open.
Following the new slogan “Give It Everything”, The Great Unknowns Scholarship program that really give it their all. Recipients of the scholarship will be chosen based on a number of factors, including not only their academic performance, but can also demonstrate how they make a positive impact within their local communities. Kind of a lot to ask, not every high schooler can handle much aside from their studies and maybe an after-school job, but that’s why this scholarship is aimed at students who “Give It Everything” they got.
“An ongoing tenet of Kia’s “Give It Everything” is to give back in meaningful ways, and Kia is proud to support the educational ambitions of America’s youth in the second year of the Great Unknowns Scholarship…The freshman class of scholarship recipients has proven to be extraordinarily bright and talented and we are excited to add to that group and help more young people pursue their academic dreams.” – Russell Wager, director, marketing operations, Kia Motors America (more…)
Kia Motors has a lot going for it in terms of its product lineup and developing technology. A part of the Hyundai Motors Group, whatever automotive endeavors Hyundai becomes involved in, Kia Motors is right there with them. It’s kind of like a competitive partnership, and it’s exciting, to say the least whenever a new project takes shape. MoceanLab, the home base for a self-driving carsharing pilot program, is the stepping stone to creating a personal mobility ecosystem. During the 2020 Consumer Electronics Show, we saw even more of this with the partnership with Uber to debut an air taxi service. The latest journey for these two automakers is a partnership with Canoo to co-develop an all-new all-electric platform for future electric vehicles.
Could it be the powertrain for the upcoming Kia Futuron concept? Set to be Kia Motors first all-electric vehicle – as in the first vehicle to be released as a stand-alone electric vehicle (EV) and didn’t have an internal combustion engine or hybrid or plug-in hybrid model before it. It’s part of Kia Motors statement to eventually become an all-electric automaker despite their testament to sports cars with GT trims. The Kia Futuron is just a concept for now, and if waiting for the right powertrain, this development with Canoo could be it.
It’s that time of year again, folks! Auto publications around the internet and the world are starting to hold award shows, put together lists of the “Best of…”, and there’s just so much good news for everyone. One hot Kia Motors vehicle we can’t get enough of is the 2020 Kia Telluride. There are so many reasons to love the Kia Telluride, and it’s such a large SUV, the Kia Telluride is perfect for pets. Now, the 2020 Kia Telluride was just named the SUV of the Year by automobile magazine MotorTrend.
“The Telluride has been an undeniable success since its launch earlier this year, with an impressive number of consumers rediscovering Kia in the highly competitive SUV segment and more than 45,000 units sold to-date…Earning MotorTrend’s coveted SUV of the Year award is an honor and a historic moment for the brand, serving to further reinforce Kia’s transformation to a world-class automaker.” – Michael Cole, president, Kia Motors America
So true. The 2020 Kia Telluride spearheaded sales for Kia Motors in March, the same month as its release. Alone, the large Kia SUV made up a tenth of total sales for that month, with a total of 5080 units sold. That kind of love can only come from an SUV that has everyone talking. Plus, with its versatility, the Telluride has something for everyone. It all starts in its birthplace, or places – designed in California but assembled in Georgia – the 2020 Kia Telluride provides consumers with a stylish exterior that is only matched by its comfortable and functional interior. At the end of the day, the Telluride is a well-rounded vehicle that meets the needs of today’s modern families.
Sneaking past us at the end of September was a new joint venture partnership between the Hyundai Motor Group and Aptiv, a global technology company dedicated to developing safer, greener, and more connected solutions for the future of mobility. As we all know, anything that the Hyundai Motor Group becomes a part of directly translates to Kia Motors, an automaker under the Hyundai Motors umbrella. The agreement between Hyundai Motor Group and Aptive is a 50-50 split, valued at a total of USD 4 billion, will be working towards what they call a global autonomous driving ecosystem.
“The new joint venture marks the start of a journey with Aptiv toward our common goal of commercializing autonomous driving…The combined capabilities of Aptiv, a leading global technology company, and our Group, a global OEM, will create invaluable synergy to lead the autonomous driving landscape.” – Euisun Chung, Executive Vice Chairman, Hyundai Motor Group
The partnership we’re watching take flight is between one of the industry’s most innovative vehicle technology providers and one of the world’s largest vehicle manufacturers. By working together, the aim of the joint venture is to design, develop, and commercialize SAE Level 4 and 5 autonomous technologies to further the partners’ leadership position in a growing market of autonomy and artificial intelligence. With each company having a 50-percent stake, Aptiv will be contributing its autonomous driving technology, intellectual property, and approximately 700 employees focused on the development of scalable autonomous driving solutions amounting to USD 2 billion. The Hyundai Motor Group is investing their portion, and Hyundai Motor, Kia Motors and Hyundai Mobis will collectively contribute USD 1.6 billion at closing and the remaining USD 0.4 billion in vehicle engineering services, R&D resources, and access to intellectual property.
