Kia Corp sure is busy these days, releasing new models every so often, like the reveal of the all-new 2023 Kia Sportage Hybrid, the Kia EV9 concept (an all-electric SUV), and still on everyone’s mind – the Guinness World record-breaking Kia EV6. The newest model being teased by the automaker is the Kia Carens, a highly-anticipated model due for its world premiere this month on December, 16 2021. It’s so close, and based on the teaser concept sketch, we can see a lot of old and a handful of new styling cues. We just wonder how the name is pronounced. Hopefully it’s not “Karens”.
“The Kia Carens perfectly embodies our latest design philosophy, ‘Opposites United’, and it successfully combines sportiness with a sophisticated personality and style with unique aesthetics…The Kia Carens is a true reflection on what today’s customers want from their three-row vehicles.” – Karim Habib, Senior Vice President and Head of Kia Design Center
Kia Corp has always been known as a mass-market brand, also known as an automaker that can be found all across the market. It doesn’t fit into one specific niche, but a mass-market brand usually bounces off the barrier known as “luxury brand” vehicles. The same could be said for Kia Corp, but as of late, the automaker has been blurring the lines of what constitutes a “luxury brand”. First released in 2019, the Kia Telluride SUV is not only the largest SUV in the lineup, but won the “Triple Crown” of Automotive Awards in its first year. When Kia first released the new Kia Carnival MPV this summer (2021), the automaker took its first step into the luxury segment with the options available in this “multi-purpose vehicle”.(more…)
You guys remember the Kia Telluride concept we posted about awhile back? It’s a futuristic-looking hybrid SUV with technologies that go way beyond some of the stuff we’re seeing pop up in automobiles today. Kia surprised the automarket when it came out with the Kia Niro, the world’s first hybrid crossover. Then, Kia Motors pulled a fast one and released the Kia Niro Plug-in Hybrid (also known as a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle, PHEV) without any promotions whatsoever. Just bam! There it is.
Seems a hybrid SUV is next on the list of their alternative fuel and green vehicles, and that brings us to the Kia Telluride. It was initially a concept at the 2016 North American International Auto Show in Detroit (2016 Detroit Auto Show). At the time, it was a little boxy in shape, had suicide doors, the signature Kia tiger-nose grille, a spacious cabin, and three rows of seats. A year later, the concept went live on the Kia Motors website, and the new design is taking some cues from the Kia Stinger. With more of a swooped-back roofline, a design quickly becoming popular, such is the look for the new 2019 Kia Forte as well, having debuted at the 2018 Detroit Auto Show.
Kia has a lot of concepts yet to be released, and we do mean a lot. Twenty-three to be exact; twenty-one if we count the ones that have been released or are about to be released. With all those concepts, one has to wonder… when is the next one going to be on the road?
The Kia GT
The Kia Soul and autonomous concepts were shown off at SEMA, along with an autonomous Sedona and the new Kia Niro, and a little while back, we talked about the Kia GT4 Stinger, a very cool looking concept. There were several press releases about the GT4 Stinger when the design was first introduced, and there was talk whether the rendition linked above was the Stinger or another model. There hasn’t been any major news on it since late 2014, it’s one of those concepts that keeps getting pushed back. Now, with Kia’s The Curve Ahead promotion, car enthusiasts are starting to extend their antennae and pick up on what Kia’s next car might actually be.
Although Kia has not published any press releases about the Kia GT since its conception, recent spy photos from one of Kia’s recent test drives of an unknown model are leading enthusiasts to believe that the next model to be released will be the Kia GT. Additionally, Kia made an announcement that they will debut a new sedan at the 2017 North American International Auto Show, so the Kia GT might finally be coming out to play.
Kia Motors Corp. is always looking for the next big thing. In terms of innovation and forward thinking, this automaker has taken the world by storm.
Most recently, it brought the public something special at the Seoul Motor Show: a compact coupe-styled sedan.
On the outside, it is hard not to see a little bit of the Optima in this new vehicle, dubbed the Novo.
Designed at the company’s Namyang design center, this four-door compact sedan offers the best of both worlds. It is big enough to accommodate the needs of a family, but small enough to be affordably priced, nimble, and able to take on a variety of roadways.
