Kia Motors Wracking up Awards in April

miami-lakes-kia-stinger-j.d.-power

The first-quarter of 2019 has just passed us and we’re already scratching our way through the rest of the year. One automaker, Kia Motors, shows no sign of slowing down as they continue to over-perform. With the automaker releasing the 2020 Kia Telluride in March 2019, their largest SUV ever, their sales were spearheaded by the Kia Telluride and landed Kia Motors their best first quarter performance for Kia Motors since 2016. It’s not the only vehicle consumers love. The Kia Stinger is still making rounds, winning a first-ever award from J.D. Power, and the Niro PHEV won a Best New Car Award.

Kia Stinger and J.D. Power

When someone says “first-ever”, one could imagine that this means the occasion was so great, it needed its own recognition and celebration. So when a company like J.D. Power holds their first-ever “Engineering Award for the Highest Rated All-New Vehicle”, there’s clearly something important brewing in the auto industry. The J.D. Power Engineering Award for Highest-Rated All-New Vehicle combines the results of two well-known J.D. Power studies that Kia Motors continues to rank highly on. Kia Motors was the leading auto brand for the 2018 Initial Quality Study (IQS), and their Kia Stinger won the Compact Premium Car segment for the 2018 J.D. Power APEAL Study.

J.D. Power 2018 Multimedia Quality and Satisfaction Study and Kia Motors

Miami Lakes Automall J.D. Power Kia Rio

Woo, Kia Motors is gaining all sorts of recognition these days. Just back in September, J.D. Power named the Kia Stinger and Kia Optima during their 2018 Tech Experience Index Study. Apparently, they’re still collecting and analyzing the results of other studies, because two vehicles from Kia Motors have been named again. This time, J.D. Power is taking a good look at multimedia systems, their quality, and customer satisfaction.

J.D. Power U.S. Multimedia Quality and Satisfaction Study

Bit of a long name there, but this study is another one for the books. The J.D. Power U.S. Multimedia Quality and Satisfaction Study is conducted every year to correctly analyze vehicle owner experiences with the quality, design, and features of their automotive sound system, including the hands-free features we love to use, although they may not always hear us correctly. “No, Alexa. Shut up, Alexa.”

This study allows J.D. Power, and the survey itself, to hone in on audio/multimedia system quality and when things go right, or things go wrong. Automakers must love these studies – in a not so ironic way. It’s a great way for them to learn about their technology and how their consumers feel about them. Plus, it’s a useful tool for consumers who are set on getting top-notch quality and technology when car shopping.

Results of the J.D. Power Tech Experience Index Study Names Kia

Miami Lakes Automall JD Power Tech Experience

Not too long ago, J.D. Power released the results of the 2018 U.S. Initial Quality Study, and Kia Motors was leading the auto brand with several vehicles ranking highest in their respective segments. Now, J.D. Power is releasing the results of their 2018 Tech Experience Index (TXI) Study, and Kia has two more vehicles ranking high. It’s not just Kia though – all automakers are waking up to smartphone integration and technology in vehicles today.

Are you aware of Uconnect 4, the next generation of the popular Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) infotainment system? J.D. Power talks about the features of Uconnect 4 specifically when reviewing the results of the TXI Study. Uconnect 4 is an infotainment system that can literally mirror the display of one’s smartphone onto their touchscreen. It’s a whole new ball game compared to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the numbers are practically yelling.

So, we talked about the pros and cons of factory-installed systems, but it seems that most consumers aren’t so thrilled about them. Our bad. According to the study, 19% of new-vehicle owners who have factory-installed navigation don’t use it, and 70% of these consumers rather use another device instead, like their smartphone.

“This rapid adoption of smartphone mirroring is the unavoidable outcome of consumers thinking that automakers are being outperformed by smartphone software providers in certain areas…Most consumers consider phone systems better for navigation and voice recognition—and they’re free. ‘Better and free’ are hard to compete with, so automakers will inevitably have to cede this territory and will be much better served by focusing on areas where they are the exclusive provider—like driver assistance and collision avoidance—and continue to hone those systems.” – Kristin Kolodge, Executive Director of Driver Interaction & HMI Research at J.D. Power.

The study, now in its third year, is based on a survey of 20,000 vehicle owners and lessees, 14,800 of which responded, who purchased or leased a new 2018 model-year vehicle in the previous 90 days that is an all-new or redesigned model within the past three years. Conducted from February to July 2018, the TXI Study measures owners’ experiences, utilization, and interaction with 38 driver-centric vehicle technologies at 90 days of ownership. The major technology categories analyzed in the study are entertainment and connectivity; comfort and convenience; driving assistance; collision protection; navigation; and smartphone mirroring.

There were some nice key findings in the results of the study:

– Consumer satisfaction has improved across all categories, with scores in comfort and convenience improving the most.

– Most consumers learn more about apps like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto on their own, versus what sales people at dealerships teach them.

– Consumers are aggravated by intrusive safety technologies, such as lane-keeping i.e. Lane Keep Assist.

– It should be obvious, but the more satisfaction a consumer gets out of their vehicle, the more likely they are to recommend it to others, about 94% of them.

For 2018, the Kia Stinger was ranked highest in the compact premium vehicle segment, and the Kia Optima ranked highest in the midsize vehicle segment. Oh yeah, represent! Luckily for you, we did a comparison of the Kia Stinger and Kia Optima not too long ago, and they’re both amazing vehicles. Check it out!

Or just come down to Miami Lakes Automall. We have the Kia Stinger, Kia Optima, and many other great new vehicles in our inventory.

Kia Motors Gets Kudos for Going EV

Miami Lakes Automall Kia Niro

Once again, for 2018, Kia Motors is the leading non-luxury brand in the automarket according to the 2018 J.D. Power Initial Quality Study. 2018 marks the third year-in-a-row that Kia Motors nabs that spot. This put Kia Motors in the spotlight once again, and has many news organizations examining the lineup for what makes the auto brand so great. Recently, WardsAuto and U.S. News & World Report tackled Kia Motors venture into alternative fuel and their new electric vehicles.

To put it simply, WardsAuto paid Kia Motors kudos for not only receiving the second-highest score during the J.D. Initial Quality Study ever, but with an advanced powertrain field, the automaker has been aggressively moving onto greener pastures with hybrids, plug-in hybrids, and electric vehicles. One of the snags many automakers hit with alternative fuel is driving range, but Kia Motors tackles that too.

“It is a huge step for many buyers to go all the way from a gas car to 100% electric…It involves how much confidence they feel. As range increases, anxiety will be reduced. So we think the hybrid and specifically the plug-in hybrid is a nice evolution to get people on the way to full electric.” – Orth Hedrick, vice president-product planning at Kia Motors America.

Future Vehicles Coming from Kia Motors

Miami Lakes Automall Kia Motors Upcoming

Kia Motors is really turning the tables on the auto industry these days. It’s almost not fair, but hey, the auto industry is practically a war. Nothing is fair. We don’t mind though, because the more concepts and vehicles that come from the Kia Motors lineup, the more we have to love. After all, Kia vehicles are award winning models. Kia Motors earned strong marks from the J.D. Power Dependability Study, two models were named “Best Vehicle for the Money”, and the award-winning 2018 Kia Stinger is, well, award-winning.

Hybrids and Electric

Kia Motors is well known for making alternative fuel vehicles. They came out with the groovy Kia Soul hatchback in 2009 and quickly turned it into an all-electric vehicle. A similar pattern formed with the Kia Optima. First it came with the standard internal combustion engine, then a hybrid version came out, and then again with a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) variation. The release of alternative fuel vehicles by Kia Motors is just becoming the norm.

Recently, more so mid-to-late 2017, Kia released the Kia Niro, a hybrid crossover and the first of its kind. It wasn’t long after its release that Kia started talking about making a plug-in hybrid variant of the crossover, having gained popularity sooner than expected. Before the end of 2017, that’s exactly what they did – the Kia Niro Plug-in Hybrid was officially added to the lineup.

Two Kia Models Earn Best Vehicle for the Money Award

Miami Lakes Automall Kia Soul Sorento Best for Money

Kia Motors is sure enjoying the spotlight in the auto industry lately. Ever since they released the 2018 Kia Niro hybrid crossover, everyone’s been turned on their heads. Chrysler may have come out with the world’s first hybrid minivan, but a hybrid crossover? And coming soon is the Kia Telluride, a hybrid SUV, and the Kia Niro Plug-in Hybrid was recently added to the Kia Motors lineup. After the release of the Niro, Kia released the 2018 Kia Stinger, a wonderful sports sedan that drives, looks, and feels like a muscle car. Even with all these new advancements and developments, U.S. News and World Report highlighted the fact that Kia Motors has always had great products, honoring the Kia Soul and Sorento with a special award.

The U.S. News and World Report consistently compares cars based on their safety, reliability, and a consensus of industry experts’ opinions, along with the car’s value. To measure such value, U.S. News and World Report also looks at a combination of a vehicle’s five-year total cost of ownership and the average price paid for the vehicle at the time the awards are published. Following this, cars are ranked in fourteen categories for quality and value in the automotive industry. For the second year in a row, the Kia Soul was honored with the Best Compact Car for the Money award and Kia Sorento claimed the Best 3-Row SUV for the Money award.

“Winning for the second consecutive year, both the Kia Soul and Sorento continue to be class leaders when it comes to offering buyers a smart balance of quality features, utility, comfort and performance, as well as long-term value.” – Jamie Page Deaton, managing editor, U.S. News & World Report.

Kia Earns Top Spot in J.D. Power Initial Quality Study for Second Year in a Row

Miami Lakes JD Power Initial Quality Kia

The results of the J.D. Power Initial Quality Study (IQS) have been released, and Kia Motors did better than any other brand for the second year in a row. In fact, it turns out, many 2017 model year vehicles did great this year.

Every year, J.D. Power and Associates conduct various studies, and the Initial Quality Study focuses on vehicle quality reported by drivers after 90 days of ownership. Surveys are sent out between February and May each year, and this year (2017) more than 77,000 responses were collected from owners and lessees of 2017 model year vehicles. To gain the top spot in the IQS, an auto brand has to have the least amount of problems and hiccups during those 90 days. Kia Motors only had 72 problems for every 100 vehicles.

Kia Motors didn’t just earn the top spot, but also several Kia models earned many model-level rewards. These include the Kia Cadenza in the large sedan segment; the Kia Forte in the compact car category; the new Kia Niro in the small SUV segment; the Kia Sorento in the midsize SUV segment; and the hip Kia Soul in the small multi-purpose vehicle segment.
