The 2020 Kia Telluride was something special, wasn’t it? Far from just being the largest SUV in the Kia Motors lineup, the Telluride was quickly viewed as a lifestyle SUV, able to be personalized in many different ways. During the 2018 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show, Kia had five Telluride concepts on display, each modified for a different kind of adventure. After its release, the 2020 Kia Telluride went on to win many awards. It quickly rounded up the 2020 North American Utility Vehicle of the Year from North American Car of the Year (NACTOY); MotorTrend SUV of the Year; and found its way onto a Car and Driver 10 Best list. The Telluride did the unthinkable, winning what automakers call the three most illustrious awards in the industry, and in the same year as its release no doubt! That little stunt earned the Telluride the “Triple Crown” of automotive awards, and back in 2020, the Telluride returns, landing on the Car and Driver 10 Best for 2021.
“We’re excited to include the Kia Telluride in Car and Driver’s 10Best for the second year in a row…We remain impressed with how many features you get for Telluride’s base price of $33,160, that it is a pleasure to drive and even how adept it is off road. We find ourselves recommending the Telluride over and over to friends shopping for large SUVs, which is a sign of how much we like it.” – Sharon Carty, editor-in-chief of Car and Driver
The Car and Driver 10 Best List is one of the big ones, as we previously mentioned, and every automaker hopes to land on it. Recognizing the smartest, most entertaining cars, trucks, SUVs, and vans on sale today, landing on the list for a second year just shows how amazing the Kia Telluride SUV is. Seriously, the Telluride was competing against 57 other vehicles, including cars, trucks, SUVs, and vans to grab a spot as one of the ten best, and the SUV certainly earned its stripes as it were. Experts from Car and Driver made up the judging panel when it came to marking the competitors. Each vehicle was scored based on value, mission fulfillment, and road manners – yes, they were most likely driven as well, this isn’t a popularity contest. Eligible competitors included all-new or significantly updated vehicles with a starting MSRP below $90,000.
We can’t say we’re surprised by this. The Kia Telluride was a beloved vehicle the moment it was made available. Released in March 2019, Kia sold over 5000 Telluride units, making a tenth of the automaker’s total sales for that month (nearly 56k units sold), By the end of 2019, over 56,000 Kia Telluride units went home to happy consumers. When it comes to long-lasting quality, Kia Motors ranked as the highest non-luxury brand in the 2020 J.D. Power Initial Quality Study (IQS), and the Telluride was a segment winner of the 2020 J.D. Power Automotive Performance Execution and Layout (APEAL) Study™, alongside the Kia Stinger, another award-winning fan favorite.

So, who’s tired of hearing about the 2020 Kia Telluride? Yeah, not us either. It seems like every couple of weeks, the Kia Telluride wins an award. In 2019, it was non-stop, leading to the Kia Telluride winning the “Triple Crown of Automotive Awards”. Well, there’s no stopping this train, being the largest SUV in the Kia Motors lineup, but this time the lovely Kia Soul EV joins the Kia Telluride in winning awards during the 2020 World Car Awards. Kia Motors won big at the 2020 World Car Awards with the Kia Telluride winning “World Car of the Year” and the Kia Soul EV named as the “World Urban Car”.
2020 World Car Awards
The World Car Awards (WCA) is a program initiated, organized, and conducted by automotive journalists from a variety of backgrounds. Every year, the World Car Awards are held to reflect the reality of the global marketplace, as well as recognize exceptional vehicles, and to reward and inspire excellence, leadership, and innovation in the ever-changing automotive industry. Going into its 16th year, there’s no stopping the WCA from naming their favorites. With an independent international jury consisting of 86 highly experienced, well-respected automotive journalists from 24 countries across the globe. Although not meant to compete with existing national and regional Car of the Year programs, can we really ignore another award for the 2020 Kia Telluride?
No matter what, Kia Motors keeps gaining awards with the largest SUV to grace its lineup, the 2020 Kia Telluride. Seriously, this baby has won award-after-award. Just last week, we got news of the 2020 Kia Telluride winning the All-Stars Award from leading publication Automobile magazine. Of course, anything after winning the “Triple Crown” of Automotive Awards, earning awards from MotorTrend, Car and Driver, and winning the Utility category in the North American Car, Utility and Truck of the Year Awards, is just gravy on top of some fine mashed potatoes. Most recently, Autotrader, the most recognized third-party car listings brand with the best need-to-know information when in the market for buying a new car, named the Kia Telluride the “Best New Car of 2020”. This declaration comes just a month after Autorader put the 2020 Kia Telluride on their “Best Interiors Under $50k” List.
Heralded for its powerful yet elegant exterior design, and the premium and tech-filled potential of the interior, the Kia Telluride is a bold SUC that stands out in an already crowded market full of SUVs and crossovers. How did Kia Motors manage this one? Well, it wasn’t easy.
Is there anyone out there that doesn’t know how great the 2020 Kia Telluride SUV is by now? The largest SUV in the Kia Motors lineup, the Telluride wins awards every month it seems. Since its release in 2019, the Kia Telluride has become known as a hot SUV to own. Most recently in February 2020, the Kia Telluride won the 2020 MAMA Family Vehicle Award from the Midwest Automotive Media Association (MAMA). Moreover, the 2020 Kia Telluride is best known for winning the “Triple Crown” of Automotive Awards, getting in the good graces of MotorTrend, Car and Driver, and winning a category in the North American Car, Utility and Truck of the Year Awards. Even with the troubled times, the Kia Telluride will continue to be a winner, with its latest from leading publication Automobile.
“The fact the 2020 Kia Telluride impressed our test drivers so much is a testament to Kia’s execution of style, practicality and value…In an Automobile All-Stars field of contenders that included some of the best sports cars, luxury GTs and supercars on the market today, this three-row SUV still stood out easily as one of the best new cars of the year. Whether you’re talking about its exterior appearance, interior appointments, or the experience from behind the wheel or in one of the cushy passenger seats, it’s a winner in every way.” – Automobile editor-in-chief Mac Morrison
Another well-known publication in the world of automobiles, Automobile is an American automobile magazine, but has a twist. Unlike many other auto magazines and publications that post objective reviews about new vehicles, usually put through a series of instrumented tests to obtain all of their technical data, Automobile is written as if the consumers were behind the publication. Reviews of vehicles are subjective reports of how the cars operated in their naturally intended, real world environment, i.e. if a truck is meant to handle off-road conditions, then it’s going to be tested on some rocky roads.
Does the name “Autotrader” ring any bells? It should, with the current Vikings commercials airing. Two Vikings are comparing a price they paid for a sled, and then another appears in a truck or SUV and announces that they “should’ve gone with Autotrader”, as well as a nod to Kelley Blue Book. Having been in the business of the automotive industry for more than 20 years, Autotrader is like many organizations that provide consumers with trustworthy information and reviews about vehicles to buy and/or sell. Like other review sites, Autotrader also puts together “Best of” lists for consumers looking for something specific, like a really nice interior. Recently, Autotrader put together the best interiors for consumers that have a little extra money to spend, because the 2020 Kia Telluride won a 2020 Autotrader 10 Best Car Interiors Under $50,000 award.
Lately, it seems all automotive news is circling around the 2020 Kia Telluride, and who could blame it? The 2020 Kia Telluride is not only the largest SUV in the Kia Motors lineup, but it’s also won many awards since its release. By the end of 2019, the Kia Telluride won the “Triple Crown” of Automotive Awards, named the 2020 North American Utility Vehicle of the Year from North American Car of the Year (NACTOY); MotorTrend SUV of the Year; and on a Car and Driver 10 Best list. Recently, it won, the MAMA “Family Vehicle of the Year” award. With all this news, some may have forgotten the hybrid crossover that surprised millions when it came out – yeah, it started the Kia Niro lineup (gas, hybrid, and electric). MotorWeek hasn’t forgotten though, because the Kia Niro and the Kia Telluride won during the 2019 MotorWeek Drivers’ Choice Awards.
The 2020 Chicago Auto Show came and went over a single weekend, with reporters and the press getting behind closed doors earlier on in the week. Although a single weekend isn’t a lot of time, it was a great chance for many automakers to show off their latest concepts and updated vehicles. Kia Motors was there to show off the new 2020 Kia Cadenza, and boy does it look amazing. During the 2020 Chicago Auto Show MotorWeek was also there to run its awards show, and the Kia Niro won in the “Best Eco-Friendly” category and Kia Telluride won out in the “Best Large Utility” category. Large Utility vehicle? Well, it is getting an off-road trim soon – an off-road Kia Telluride SUV, how nuts is that? Watch out, Jeep®.
The 2020 Kia Telluride SUV may not have delivered all the cool technology the concept promised, but the largest SUV to come from Kia Motors is sure making a name for itself. Having won the “Triple Crown” of Automotive Awards with NACTOY 2020, Car and Driver 10 Best, and MotorTrend SUV of the Year, the Kia Telluride has a lot to love. Providing consumers with some luxury, and possibly aiming for the high rollers, the range for the Telluride goes from a starting MSRP of $31,690 (plus destination fee) to $40k or more. The 2020 Kia Telluride is perfect for pets and perfect for families, and the Telluride just won the 2020 MAMA Award, but it’s not what you think.
The Midwest Automotive Media Association
The Midwest Automotive Media Association, or MAMA, recently held its 2020 MAMA Family Vehicle of the Year awards. Every year, the Award is chosen by MAMA’s journalist members, with the voting starting all the way back in the spring of that year. To even be eligible for the award, a vehicle must have four doors and be new or significantly updated within a year of the MAMA Spring Rally (takes place in May). During the MAMA Spring Rally and Fall Rally, preliminary voting for the award occurs at both. A vehicle can be entered more than once but will only appear on the ballot once.
Just last week we were discussing how the 2020 Kia Telluride has won the “Triple Crown” of prestigious Automotive Awards. It’s not often that an automobile wins the kind of honor to heralded by MotorTrend, Car and Driver, and the North American Car, Utility and Truck of the Year Awards. Yet, the 2020 Kia Telluride was named the 2020 North American Utility Vehicle of the Year from North American Car of the Year (NACTOY); MotorTrend SUV of the Year; and landed on a Car and Driver 10 Best list. With all that already under its belt, we wonder if the large SUV can get any better…and it can! Coming soon to the auto market is a new trim level that makes the Kia Telluride even more luxurious than previously thought possible.
Yeah, it sounds too good to be true. The 2020 Kia Telluride already has great amenities – the high-end trim level offers features many consumers won’t find available on competitor SUVs, like second-row ventilated seats, and those SUVs cost twice as much as the Telluride. Is it really possible to get even better while still keeping the Telluride an affordable option? According to an internet rumor from AutoSpies, there could already be something in development. You know what they say about internet rumors.
By the end of 2019, we couldn’t get enough of the 2020 Kia Telluride, Kia Motors’ largest SUV in the total lineup. It seemed like every week the Kia Telluride was winning another award, and some were highly coveted. It takes a lot for a vehicle to end up on the “Best of” vehicle lists. Reviewers and automotive publications around the world all have their say, so when it comes to big names like MotorTrend and Car and Driver, we know that the vehicle is making a statement. That’s especially so when capturing one of the awards from the North American Car, Utility and Truck of the Year Awards. The 2020 Kia Telluride made it on all three lists and won its awards. They call this feat the “Triple Crown” of Prestigious Automotive Awards.
Yes, the 2020 Kia Telluride is the first sport-utility vehicle (SUV) to win the “Triple Crown” of the automotive industry’s most prestigious awards – the 2020 North American Utility Vehicle of the Year from North American Car of the Year (NACTOY); MotorTrend SUV of the Year; and landing on a Car and Driver 10 Best list. Capturing the three most illustrious awards in the automotive industry in the same year as its release is unheard of, but the Telluride was popular from day one. When the Kia Telluride was announced as a NACTOY finalist in December, we didn’t want to get our hopes up, but once again it smashes the competition.
MotorTrend heralded the 2020 Kia Telluride for its undeniable success, spearheading Kia Motors sales in March 2019 when it was first released, and selling more than 45,000 units by the end of the year. A judging panel evaluated vehicles on six key criteria – safety, efficiency, value, advancement in design, engineering excellence and performance of the intended function. The Kia Telluride won them all with its sharp style, a great starting price ($31,690 plus destination fee), and an assortment of advanced automatic safety features that come standard.
Landing on the Car and Driver 10 Best Trucks and SUVs list is no easy feat. After getting a good look at the Kia Telluride, its design, equipment, performance, and road manners, Car and Driver put it up against the rest of the competition. Winning vehicles were judged on their value, driving dynamics, and mission fulfillment. If the mission was to crush the competition, then the 2020 Kia Telluride nailed it.
Finally, the 2020 North American Utility Vehicle of the Year award. Just as much as an honor as any other, the NACTOY award is pretty high up there. Winning an award for 2020 is a first-time honor for the Kia brand but is one drop in the bucket of the amount of awards has received from major consumer and enthusiast publications since the three-row SUV appeared in dealerships. Still, after months of deliberation, test drives, comparisons, and other evaluations the Telluride was victorious over a selection of 12 semi-finalists and three finalists in the utility vehicle category. Offering the smooth ride and the rich interior of a luxury vehicle without the luxury price, it’s no wonder nearly 60,000 Tellurides have been sold-to-date (January 15, 2020), and dealerships can’t keep with the increasing demand.
“We are immensely proud of Telluride capturing North American Utility of the Year…It solidifies years of effort on behalf of every Kia employee to build vehicles consumers desire and industry experts value. Winning the North American Utility Vehicle of the Year is an honor that marks Kia’s arrival in the top tier of the world’s automotive manufacturers.” – Sean Yoon, CEO of Kia Motors North America

Back in August, the list for eligible vehicles being entered into the North American Car, Utility and Truck of the Year (NACTOY) awards was released. Out of these eligible vehicles were 2020 Kia Soul and 2020 Kia Telluride, both able to win the awards in their respective segments. As we draw ever nearer to the date of the awards, January 13, 2020, the semi-finalists round has passed and jurors are narrowing down the list for the final vehicles with a chance to win an award. If you haven’t gotten tired of all the good news for the 2020 Kia Telluride, then you’re in luck! The 2020 Kia Telluride was named one of three finalists for the 2020 NACTOY at the 2019 LA Auto Show.
“The Telluride is the first Kia vehicle designed specifically for the U.S. market and the impact it has made while reintroducing the Kia brand to Americans is nothing short of incredible…Demand for Telluride continues to outpace supply ten months after our flagship SUV first arrived in showrooms, and we are honored that Kia has been named a finalist for the prestigious North American Utility Vehicle of the Year award.” – Michael Cole, president, Kia Motors America (KMA).
All vehicles entered into the NACTOY awards must (1) be an all-new model, or still early in its production run and (2) be available at dealerships within a reasonable time from the announcement of the awards, usually before the end of the year. Then, it’s up to a panel of 50 judges to months driving dozens of new vehicles throughout the year. Even with the red-hot competition this year, especially for the tough utility category with a variety of mainstream and luxury vehicles, three-row crossovers, and a new electric SUV, the large Kia Motors SUV made it into the final round. This year, the field of semi-finalists included 12 models in the utility category that the Telluride won out over.
