Kia Motors has been getting a lot of good news lately, and we’re just going to keep hearing more with this automaker. The most recent news comes from trusted organization J.D. Power. As we enter the second half of 2019, J.D. Power will be releasing more and more data collected from its various studies. Today, we’re taking a look at the results of their 2019 Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) Study, and the Kia Forte compact sedan, one of Kia Motors America’s best-selling models, earned an award and was the highest ranked vehicle in the compact car segment.

The 2019 J.D. Power APEAL Study

Every year, the J.D. Power APEAL Study is conducted. This year, the study spanned from February 2019 to March 2019. Surveys were sent out purchasers and lessees of new 2019 model-year vehicles after at least 90 days of ownership. Out of all the surveys sent out, nearly 68,000 surveys were completed and returned. Taking a more emotional approach to the study, the 2019 J.D. Power APEAL Study measures an owner or lessees’ emotional attachment and level of excitement in relation to their vehicle, from applying pressure to the throttle and the vehicle’s response to their satisfaction with the vehicle overall. To build a complete picture of this, the study is based on more than 90 vehicle attributes that fall into ten categories: driving dynamics, visibility and safety, engine/transmission, audio/communication/entertainment/navigation, seats, HVAC, exterior, interior, storage and space, and fuel economy.

A New Refreshed 2019 Kia Forte Is a Great Catch

Miami Lakes Kia 2019 Forte

With Kia Motors changing the focus of their auto brand with a new GT lineup, Kia will soon shake the auto market once again. Just like the automaker did with the Kia Stinger, the vehicle that started it all with its own GT trim, the new GT-Line from Kia will mark a whole new age for the brand. It all begins with the 2019 Kia Forte GT, debuted during the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show, and in Korea prior. Before the GT-Line takes over though, take a look at what makes the new 2019 Kia Forte so great.

Power

For consumers that want a spacious vehicle that is fuel-efficient while delivering performance, the 2019 Kia Forte can foot the bill. Kia Motors is known for making vehicles with spacious cabins, like the Kia Optima and Kia Stinger. The cabin is also pretty comfortable, allowing us to enjoy the 147 horsepower of the naturally aspirated 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder engine under the hood.

Optimized with dual continuously variable valve timing and multi-point injection fuel delivery, this engine comes paired to a six-speed manual transmission that comes standard on the base, but an intelligent variable transmission (IVT) with Sportmatic on the rest of the lineup (optional on the base). The engineering lends itself to a fuel economy of 27/37 mpg city/highway for the Forte FE with manual transmission, 31/41 mpg city/highway with the IVT. The rest of the lineup comes with a combined fuel economy of 34 mpg. On average, most consumers will have about 35 mpg over several hundred miles – not bad at all.

Not too long ago, the 2018 Specialty Equipment Market Association Auto Show took place, and Kia Motors rolled in with all sorts of concepts to show off. Many of these focused on the new Kia Telluride SUV with five trims on display. During SEMA 2018, Kia also showed us a look at the very first vehicle from their new GT Line, the 2020 Kia Forte GT. The current 2019 Kia Forte is already winning praise, along with its popular sibling, the Kia Stinger. Over the last year, the Kia Stinger has won many awards, and recently one a simple little award for the Kia Stinger digital ad campaign. Well now it’s time for the Kia Forte to shine, having just won the “Southwest Lifestyle Vehicle of the Year” Award.

Southwest Vehicle Lifestyle Award

Never heard of it? That’s because it’s the first of its kind – the first Southwest Lifestyle Vehicle of the Year awards were held recently at the Bondurant Racing School outside of Phoenix, Arizona. Many media journalists in attendance rated the Forte as the “Best Value” car, and following real-word evaluations, the all-new compact sedan won the award. Many can attest this to the refreshed look and performance with Stinger-inspired design and improved driving dynamics.

“The Kia Forte was really a standout in the Car of the Year field. It’s stylish, efficient, fun to drive, and comes with premium tech and safety features that you’d expect in a car costing thousands more…It really is a ‘Best Value’ in every sense and it exceeded our journalists’ expectations in almost every category.” – Becky Antioco, event director and founder of Southwest Lifestyle Media.

Kia Telluride Concept Gets the Greenlight

Miami Lakes Automall Kia Telluride Concept1

You guys remember the Kia Telluride concept we posted about awhile back? It’s a futuristic-looking hybrid SUV with technologies that go way beyond some of the stuff we’re seeing pop up in automobiles today. Kia surprised the automarket when it came out with the Kia Niro, the world’s first hybrid crossover. Then, Kia Motors pulled a fast one and released the Kia Niro Plug-in Hybrid (also known as a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle, PHEV) without any promotions whatsoever. Just bam! There it is.

Seems a hybrid SUV is next on the list of their alternative fuel and green vehicles, and that brings us to the Kia Telluride. It was initially a concept at the 2016 North American International Auto Show in Detroit (2016 Detroit Auto Show). At the time, it was a little boxy in shape, had suicide doors, the signature Kia tiger-nose grille, a spacious cabin, and three rows of seats. A year later, the concept went live on the Kia Motors website, and the new design is taking some cues from the Kia Stinger. With more of a swooped-back roofline, a design quickly becoming popular, such is the look for the new 2019 Kia Forte as well, having debuted at the 2018 Detroit Auto Show.

2019 Kia Forte Debuts at 2018 Detroit Auto Show

Miami Lakes Automall 2019 Kia Forte

Kia Motors is definitely changing their game up. It all first started with the long-awaited 2018 Kia Stinger. The automaker said they’re going to put more focus on cars that drive as good as they look, and the Stinger was definitely the starting point of that endeavor. Well, just recently at the 2018 Detroit Auto Show, Kia debuted the new 2019 Kia Forte. Taking some cues from the Kia Stinger, the Forte has more style, a spacious cabin, and steps up its game with a new in-house powertrain.

Power and Driving

So first off, the powertrain is a little different than previous Kia Forte models. Although the engine lineup hasn’t been changed, there is a new transmission that improves fuel economy. The 2018 Forte engine option is still a 2.0-liter DOHC Inline-4 engine, and it was available with or without Atkinson Cycle tech. The Atkinson cycle is a process that has been found to benefit hybrid vehicles, having been first used in the 1997 Toyota Prius. Today, it is known as a combustion cycle for improving fuel efficiency.

Like other motor companies that make their own in-house engine technologies, Kia Motors introduced a new in-house continuously variable transmission (CVT) for the 2019 model year. Named “Intelligent Variable Transmission” or “IVT” for short, consumers can expect to see this transmission option popping up in future Kia vehicles. The transmission maximizes fuel efficiency and works in tandem with the 147-horsepower I4 engine, offering the 2019 Kia Forte a combined fuel economy estimated at 35 mpg.
