Kia keeps making rounds around success lane, and there is no stopping them in sight. The Kia Soul, a favorite vehicle of college kids, was just named the best budget vehicle in 2017 by Parents magazine and Edmunds. Not a surprise, really. Starting at only $16,100 – it’s one of the better budget vehicles out there, and the price isn’t the only thing to talk about.
The 2017 Kia Soul was selected for its value, performance, safety, and family-friendly features. This can be attested to its (1) standard 130-horsepower 1.6-liter I4 engine; (2) UVO eServices, which is Kia’s infotainment package; and (3) its many advanced safety features.
This will be the tenth year that Parents magazine and Edmunds have partnered up together to share the Best Budget award, amongst other rewards, and to provide a reliable source for families looking to purchase cars for their new drivers.
We all knew the Kia Soul is one of the cool cars out there. It’s been around since 2009, and a lot of college kids end up in it at some point. It’s practical, it’s got a funky exterior, it’s fun to drive, and it’s very affordable. Now, its cool factor is official. Kelley Blue Book just named the Kia Soul on their list, “Coolest Car Under $18,000”.
We already knew the Kia Soul was pretty cool. It’s a great choice for Millennials to drive the Kia Soul, and it hasn’t dropped in popularity. Plus, it’s received 5-star ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), so parents know it’s safe. By the way, this isn’t the first time the Kia Soul made KBB’s list. It’s actually the sixth year in a row (2017), meaning it didn’t take long for Kia to get it right on the money, unlike some vehicles that may take several years to make it a worthwhile investment.
These days, Millennials and iGen are starting to populate the consumer demographic in the auto industry. The new generations of auto buyers will soon be the majority of shoppers, but many automakers still have no clue how to serve the consumers that will make up a large percentage of their profit. Some brands are going beyond simple Bluetooth technology however, one of which, is Kia.
The Millennial Generation is anyone born between 1982 and 1994 and iGen makes up the generation following the Millennials. Many of the former are already in the auto market, and the latter are just starting to make a dent. Both generations have something in common – the internet.
Depending on when they were born, they may have been introduced to the internet when all we had was AOL and dial-up; if later, they may have been born with a cellphone and an email address, figuratively speaking. Either way, they’re connected. 4G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, the Cloud, all synchronized and linked. Not only this, but with smartphones and tablets becoming a large part of how businessmen keep organized and how students take notes, being connected wherever they go is becoming a larger part of their daily lives.
Kia has been killing it this year. Throughout 2016, they have won awards, released new innovative models, and they even had some pretty nifty vehicles to show off at SEMA this year. However, they’re not stopping anytime soon, seeing as how they just won another award and are continuing to reach out to their consumers.
2017 Kia Soul Earns Best Buy Award from Consumer Guide Automotive
The 2017 Kia Soul was introduced just in time for the 2017 Consumer Guide Automotive Awards. Being a part of the subcompact car segment, it went home with the Best Buy award – for the third year in a row! This is a shout out to the past when earlier this very year, Kia received the number one spot in ranking during the J.D. Power and Associates Quality Study.
The 2017 Kia soul is finally getting some oomph! Yeah, that’s right. Since its birth in 2010, the Kia Soul has had many hurdles to jump, some of which were because of its aesthetics. Well, for the 2017 model, Kia is taking charge, making some changes, and adding a little more power under the hood — you could go as far to say they’re turbocharging its appeal.
The first big change for the 2017 Kia Soul is its new turbocharged engine. Originally, the Kia Soul Plus (+) and Soul Exclaim (!) shared the same 2.0-liter I4 engine, generating about 164-horsepower. It also had a combined EPA of 27 mpg. The new 2017 Kia Soul Exclaim will come standard with a 1.6-liter turbocharged I4 engine, increasing its horsepower to 201 horses, and its torque to 196 lb-ft. Contrary to popular belief that more power sacrifices fuel economy, the 2017 Soul model actually gets a slight boost in fuel economy to average out at 28 combined mpg. (more…)
