Let the Celebration Begin!
Kia Motors America has proudly announced this week that the Kia Soul, their widely popular boxy looking urban passenger vehicle, has surpassed the one million mark! Over one million Kia Souls have been purchased since inception of this vehicle back in 2009. In less than a decade, literally over a million people have experienced its wonderful and unique design, the beauty of a great product and a comfortable interior ride with a premium powertrain.
Kia Soul Background
From early into the Kia Soul product launch, the marketing showed the car with digital hamsters promoting how cool it was to drive one. And cool it was- over a million times over. While the Kia Soul is known for its colorful exterior design and outrageous advertising campaigns in the past decade, the Kia Soul has become a staple for the brand for more than just flashy ads and a unique cube look.
What’s in a 2018 Kia Soul?
Inside the 2018 Kia Soul, drivers immediately notice its tailored, comfy ride for all. Ventilated driver and passenger seats circulate air and if it’s cold out, the heated front and rear seats are a great way to stay warm. From cloth to available leather seating, there’s something for everyone. The Kia Soul also features a push button start, LED mood lighting and dynamic color changing options, plus a wide panoramic sunroof showcase the beautiful interior.
Smartest and Safest KIA Soul Ever
Kia is proud to give drivers industry leading technology like the driver-assistance technology that provides Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) which works independently of the driver in case the driver is distracted during critical situations, stopping the vehicle and preventing an accident. This works hand and hand with the Forward Collision Warning System that provides a warning message and alert to drivers of a slower or stopped vehicle ahead. If the driver doesn’t apply the brakes, the AEB system should ensure your safety.
Lane Departure Warning System is a camera based system that helps to keep drivers in sync with the lanes of the road they are traveling on because an alert sounds to notify drivers if they are not staying in their lane. The Blind Spot Detection system uses radar-based technology to warn drivers when there’s another vehicle in their blind spot and Rear Cross Traffic Alert lets drivers know if something is in their path when backing up.

Well, if you are looking for one in South Florida, head to Miami Lakes Automall because we have several Kia Stinger models available. One of our writers took a ride in the Kia Stinger GT2 to learn a little more about the car and what drivers can expect, like a configurable LCD display and a multitude of user settings.
Navigating the Display
It may not seem intuitive to everyone, but these days, many automakers put a button on the steering wheel that makes it possible for users to adjust some settings, such as turning off the chime notification of the Lane Departure Warning system. Such settings will be displayed on the LCD monitor behind the steering wheel. To get to the main menu, press the steering-wheel mounted button that looks like two sheets of paper. The driver can press it multiple times to cycle through several menus, including fuel economy, driving range, G-force, and User Settings.
Upon arriving at the User Settings menu, another button right underneath the aforementioned button is used to move the selection on screen up or down, and pressing it acts as an “enter” or “okay” button. Use these directions to find the User Settings display. There’s plenty to cover.
Upon reaching the User Settings screen, it may be a bit daunting at first. There’s multiple menus there, each with their own set of options. The list consists of:
- Heads-Up Display
- Driver Assistance
- Service Interval
Here’s what each one covers.
You guys remember the Kia Telluride concept we posted about awhile back? It’s a futuristic-looking hybrid SUV with technologies that go way beyond some of the stuff we’re seeing pop up in automobiles today. Kia surprised the automarket when it came out with the Kia Niro, the world’s first hybrid crossover. Then, Kia Motors pulled a fast one and released the Kia Niro Plug-in Hybrid (also known as a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle, PHEV) without any promotions whatsoever. Just bam! There it is.
Seems a hybrid SUV is next on the list of their alternative fuel and green vehicles, and that brings us to the Kia Telluride. It was initially a concept at the 2016 North American International Auto Show in Detroit (2016 Detroit Auto Show). At the time, it was a little boxy in shape, had suicide doors, the signature Kia tiger-nose grille, a spacious cabin, and three rows of seats. A year later, the concept went live on the Kia Motors website, and the new design is taking some cues from the Kia Stinger. With more of a swooped-back roofline, a design quickly becoming popular, such is the look for the new 2019 Kia Forte as well, having debuted at the 2018 Detroit Auto Show.
Kia has a lot of concepts yet to be released, and we do mean a lot. Twenty-three to be exact; twenty-one if we count the ones that have been released or are about to be released. With all those concepts, one has to wonder… when is the next one going to be on the road?
The Kia GT
The Kia Soul and autonomous concepts were shown off at SEMA, along with an autonomous Sedona and the new Kia Niro, and a little while back, we talked about the Kia GT4 Stinger, a very cool looking concept. There were several press releases about the GT4 Stinger when the design was first introduced, and there was talk whether the rendition linked above was the Stinger or another model. There hasn’t been any major news on it since late 2014, it’s one of those concepts that keeps getting pushed back. Now, with Kia’s The Curve Ahead promotion, car enthusiasts are starting to extend their antennae and pick up on what Kia’s next car might actually be.
Although Kia has not published any press releases about the Kia GT since its conception, recent spy photos from one of Kia’s recent test drives of an unknown model are leading enthusiasts to believe that the next model to be released will be the Kia GT. Additionally, Kia made an announcement that they will debut a new sedan at the 2017 North American International Auto Show, so the Kia GT might finally be coming out to play.
The 2017 Kia soul is finally getting some oomph! Yeah, that’s right. Since its birth in 2010, the Kia Soul has had many hurdles to jump, some of which were because of its aesthetics. Well, for the 2017 model, Kia is taking charge, making some changes, and adding a little more power under the hood — you could go as far to say they’re turbocharging its appeal.
The first big change for the 2017 Kia Soul is its new turbocharged engine. Originally, the Kia Soul Plus (+) and Soul Exclaim (!) shared the same 2.0-liter I4 engine, generating about 164-horsepower. It also had a combined EPA of 27 mpg. The new 2017 Kia Soul Exclaim will come standard with a 1.6-liter turbocharged I4 engine, increasing its horsepower to 201 horses, and its torque to 196 lb-ft. Contrary to popular belief that more power sacrifices fuel economy, the 2017 Soul model actually gets a slight boost in fuel economy to average out at 28 combined mpg. (more…)
In addition to being “Highest Ranked Brand in Initial Quality” in the 2016 J.D. Power Study, Kia is also known for their diverse lineup of models including SUVs, a minivan, compact cars, electric vehicles and hybrids. Currently, Kia has two “green” models the Optima Hybrid and Soul EV, and in 2017, Kia will also release the Kia Niro (a hybrid crossover). Check them out.
Kia’s Hybrids, EVs and PHEVs
2016 Kia Optima Hybrid
The Kia Optima Hybrid is a hybrid car equipped with an electric motor powered by a 47 kW lithium polymer battery and a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine. The battery and gas can produce up to 199 horsepower and 235 lb-ft of torque. The Kia Optima Hybrid’s fuel economy is extremely good, 36 MPG in the city and 40 MPG on the highway. This particular hybrid works by switching between the electric motor and the gas engine which delivers a smooth, quiet, and low emission ride.
The Kia Cadenza is mid-sized sedan designed with comfort in mind. For the 2017 model year, the all-new Kia Cadenza was completely redesigned and it has luxury features and a comfortable cabin, while looking a bit sporty. From the engine to the interior, there are a variety of new features on the all-new 2017 Cadenza.
Perhaps the most noticeable change on the all-new 2017 Kia Cadenza is its styling. The redesigned Cadenza looks more expressive and sportier than previous models. An interesting new exterior feature for the 2017 model is the option of two different grilles. Additionally, exterior features like the LED “piano key” taillights, a wider and lower body, and chrome accents help to give it a more athletic appearance style.
The Cadenza’s new interior is where luxury comes into play. The interior features soft materials and shear surfaces and a wraparound dash that flows into the door panels. The vehicle features a 360-degree surround view display of the vehicle, which is seen on the touchscreen on the dashboard. Additionally, for the 2017 model year, there are more interior color combinations available and buyers now have the option of upgrading to Nappa leather seating. (more…)
The Soul has been one of Kia’s most successful models, and it has become a consumer favorite crossover. It’s just different and playful while at the same time being an excellent value.
This year, Kia introduced the Soul EV, an electric version of the car that packs all the same perks as the original and offers an environmentally-friendly option for drivers.
But why stop there when there are possibilities for so many fun versions? At the 2015 Chicago Auto Show, Kia brought a variation that many people would definitely like to see in production.
Created at Kia’s design center in Irvine, California, the Trail’ster concept is a Soul for outdoorsy types. It retains the chic presence that makes it such a popular choice for urban living but adds the ability to take things off the pavement as well.
