Every year, automotive journalists and publications review vehicles, have competitions, conduct studies, put together “Best of” lists, every way one can think of to test the quality of an automobile. A lot of awards shows and competitions take place in the spring, and this year, it’s like a wildfire. Every week, there seems to be another win for an automaker or model. This time, it’s Kia Corp, with three winnings reported in three days. The awards come from U.S. News & World Report for the Kia EV6, Vincentric for the Kia Rio, and the Hispanic Motor Press for the Kia Carnival MPV. We can already see the gold medals.
U.S. News & World Report recently put together its list of “Best Hybrid and Electric Cars”. Each electric vehicle (EV) that made the list was analyzed based on its overall score (according to U.S. News reviews), starting price, Level 2 charging rate, EPA fuel economy, and range estimates. The winners had the best combination of quality, value, and efficiency in their segment. With orders rising 49-percent in its second month in showrooms, a new Kia EV was definitely on the list, winning out over dozens of competitors. This earned the EV the title of Best Electric Vehicle, the Kia EV6.(more…)
We covered a bit of the 2022 New York International Auto Show (NYIAS) that started last week and will continue on through this upcoming weekend (April 15 – 24, 2022). Well, we focused more on the highlights of the new 2023 Kia Niro crossover and new 2023 Kia Telluride SUV. Previewed during the 2022 NYIAS, Kia Corp was sure to put these vehicles front and center. Also taking place during 2022 NYIAS was an auto awards show no doubt, and Kia is flying high after winning multiple marketing honors for its recent “Movement That Inspires” broadcast campaigns.
The recent marketing campaign by Kia have featured Kia’s first entry into the luxury car segment, the Carnival MPV; the automaker’s first all-electric vehicle, the EV6; the latest sports car from the automaker, the K5; and of course the Telluride, the automaker’s largest SUV to date and the latest model to become an electric vehicle (EV) if the design of the Kia EV9 is anything to go by. Seen at the 2022 Chicago Auto Show, it was basically a large, bright blue SUV, but electric. Let’s just call it an electric Telluride for now, and seeing as how the Telluride is one of Kia Corp’s most-awarded SUVs, winning the Triple Crown of Automotive Awards during its first year of release, the Telluride goes on to earn another first, the EDO’s first-ever Automotive TV Advertising Award for “Best Non-Luxury Auto Campaign”.(more…)
The Kia Telluride was an instant winner when Kia Corp released it back in March 2019, completely spearheading sales for Kia at the time. A large SUV, the largest in the lineup, the 2020 Kia Telluride won the “Triple Crown” of Automotive Awards. This consisted of winning the the 2020 North American Utility Vehicle of the Year from North American Car of the Year (NACTOY); being named as the MotorTrend SUV of the Year; and landing on a Car and Driver 10 Best list. Restyled and updated for the 2023 model year, this SUV introduced new X-Line and X-Pro models for consumers with a lifestyle of adventure.
The 2023 Kia Telluride gets all kinds of upgrades, starting with its looks. A revised vertical headlamp design comes standard with available fog lamps. Upfront, a new bumper and grille take the stage while still staying true to the Kia “Tiger Nose” look. The revised style finds its way to the rear fascia with new taillamps, additional wheel designs for every trim, and three new paint colors. Drive around in style with a Midnight Lake Blue, Dawning Red, or Jungle Wood Green exterior. Inside, consumers are immediately greeted by dual 12.3-inch display screens providing the driver and passenger with vehicle information, including navigation and the gauge cluster (available). The dashboard has a new design for the trim panels and HVAC vents, as well as a redesigned steering wheel. New interior color packages were also mentioned in the PR, but the details were thin.(more…)
The Kia Niro crossover is the first of its kind. A hybrid from the start, it was the world’s first hybrid crossover and made plenty of noise. It’s compact, it’s cute (the ladies love it), and can save some serious moola. Although only a crossover, the Kia Niro qualifies for $7,500 federal tax credit. Taxes are getting worse, so who can’t afford to save $7500 next year? Plus, the Niro comes in three flavors – hybrid, the Kia Niro Plugin Hybrid, and the Kia Niro EV. There’s something for everyone, but today, we’re talking about the original Niro crossover.
“Kia’s electrified vehicle momentum continues with the launch of the all-new second-generation Niro, which offers more refinement, versatility, connectivity, and technology than ever…The 2023 Niro was designed for today’s needs and for sustainable future mobility.” – Steven Center, COO & EVP, Kia America
The all-new 2023 Kia Niro crossover made its at the 2022 New York International Auto Show (NYIAS). Going on from April 15 – 24, 2022, the doors are opening to the public soon enough, but we got plenty of details to share already. Currently in its second generation, the Niro is powerful, aerodynamic, attractive, comes with a tech-focused package. Following the new Kia Corp mantra, “Opposites United”, the Niro is a perfect combination of one of the hottest car types on the market – crossovers – while also making a statement that alternative fuel vehicles can be as great as those still running on gasoline.(more…)
Earlier this year, Kia and Hyundai Motor (the parent group), decided to shift all of their focus onto electric vehicle (EV) development. Both automakers, Kia Corp especially, have been already making the move towards EVs and battery-electric vehicles (BEVs). Kia Corp launched the Kia EV6, its first all-electric vehicle with no predecessor. A few months later, and Hyundai Motor Co has dug in deep with a new collaboration overseas. Hyundai Motor has agreed with the Saudi Arabian Oil Company (Aramco) and King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) to work together to research and develop a new advanced fuel for an ultra lean-burn, spark-ignition engine. Wait, what? That sounds like a gasoline engine.
“BEVs and [fuel cell electric vehicles] FCEVs will be Hyundai Motor Group’s ultimate technologies to achieve carbon neutral mobility, while eco-friendly ICE technology that combines eco-friendly fuel and ultra-lean burn engine will be the key to effectively reduce greenhouse gas emissions during our transition to EVs,” – Alain Raposo, Executive Vice President of Hyundai Motor Group, leading the Electrified Propulsion Technical Unit
They’re calling it “e-fuel”, and while making the transition from gasoline vehicles to EVs, BEVs, and FCEVs, the auto group is also focusing on minimizing greenhouse gas emissions from internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles. What is “e-fuel”? It holds many similarities with FCEVs. A fuel cell vehicle typically uses hydrogen as the main fuel source. All one needs is a little water, run through some electricity through it to separate the molecules from one another – hydrogen and oxygen – and blam! That’s two, natural, and powerful gases to burn. E-Fuel is similar, except this power source requires hydrogen made from water electrolysis (known as green hydrogen) and carbon dioxide.(more…)
The 2022 Kia Carnival MPV, otherwise known as a “multipurpose vehicle”, has been a winner since its debut. Kia Corp’s entry into the luxury vehicle segment, the automaker has already topped the charts when it comes to the mass market. The Kia Niro EV being the highest ranked electric vehicle in the mass auto market during the 2022 J.D. Power EVX Study is plenty proof of that. Not only does the Kia Carnival MPV come equipped with luxurious features and upscale tech, but the Carnival is also making its way to the winners’ circle of many automotive publications. Recently, in early March 2022, the 2022 Kia Carnival MPV won the 2022 Autotrader Best New Car Award. The newest award is being named “Family Vehicle of the Year” by AutoGuide.
“The Kia Carnival MPV is truly a multi-purpose vehicle and breaks the mold of what many perceive a vehicle like this should be…We’re proud to receive AutoGuides’ family vehicle award, celebrating the Carnival MPV’s premium design and abundant safety technology. This award further validates the Carnival MPV’s wide-reaching appeal, which resulted in our popular MPV capturing 9.3 percent market share in its segment in 2021.” – Steven Center, COO and EVP, Kia America
A win like this is always another feather in the cap for an automaker. Like many other automotive publications out there, AutoGuide reviews cars, writes about new and used cars, reports on news in the automotive industry, and yes, puts together “Best of” lists. AutoGuide came to their decision about the 2022 Kia Carnival MPV after a panel of seven editors and reporters drove hundreds of vehicles across North America, measuring vehicles based on value, user-friendliness, space, safety, and more. The group of vehicles were cars, trucks, and utility vehicles. There were 40 finalists, and the Carnival MPV made the final list of only eight vehicles.(more…)
Ever since its release, the Kia Telluride, the largest SUV in the automaker’s lineup, has been renowned worldwide. Winning awards left and right, the model earned itself the “Triple Crown” of Automotive Awards in 2019, winning the 2020 North American Utility Vehicle of the Year from North American Car of the Year (NACTOY award, named as the MotorTrend SUV of the Year, and landing on a Car and Driver 10 Best list. We don’t see the attention dying down any time soon, and the Telluride was named the Best 3-Row Midsize SUV by Kelley Blue Book (KBB) in December 2021, and the automotive reviewer of the same name just called the Kia Telluride one of the Best Family Cars of 2022. No surprise here, as this marks the third year the vehicle has taken top honors during this KBB awards list.
“The award-winning Telluride has been impressing industry experts and consumers alike since going on sale three years ago…With an unrivaled combination of value, comfort, utility and convenience, we are confident that Kia’s largest SUV will continue to succeed in a highly competitive segment, and this latest award from Kelley Blue Book is proof.” Not surprisingly, 93 percent of Telluride owners rate ‘usefulness for carrying passengers and cargo’ either truly outstanding or excellent, higher than all other competitors in the segment. – Steven Center, COO and EVP, Kia America(more…)
Every year, J.D. Power holds various studies to find the satisfaction of consumers with vehicles in the auto market. Whether the study is to measure the initial quality of a model, or how well its infotainment and technologies work, J.D. Power has covered it. In recent years, Kia Corp has appeared high on the list of ranked automakers in recent studies, such as the 2021 J.D. Power Initial Quality Study (IQS) and the 2021 J.D. Power Automotive Performance Execution and Layout (APEAL) Study. In fact, just this year, Kia Corp ranked the highest in the J.D. Power 2022 Vehicle Dependability Study. It’s time to add another feather to that cap, because the J.D. Power 2022 Electric Vehicle Experience (EVX) Ownership Study has recently concluded, and the Kia Niro EV has taken top honors in the mass market category for a second-year-in-a-row.
“Kia is committed to offering a diverse line of vehicles with convenient services that deliver an excellent ownership experience…Consecutive wins in the EVX Ownership Study reinforces Kia’s leadership as the brand prepares to introduce additional electric passenger vehicles, SUVs and MPVs across several segments by 2027. The all-new EV6 joined Niro in Kia’s all-electric lineup, helping elevate the brand to record February sales.” – Sean Yoon, President & CEO, Kia North America, Kia America(more…)
There has been a lot of news for the Kia EV6 all-electric vehicle recently. Making it practical and affordable with true incentives, Kia America has partnered with two groups well-known to the electric vehicle (EV) community. In February, the Kia partnered with Electrify America to offer new EV6 owners 1,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh), free of charge, at any Electrify America station across the U.S. In March, Kia America made a deal with Currently, a mobile charging service. Winning awards like the 2022 European Car of the Year, the Kia EV6 recently won another award – the prestigious 2022 Red Dot Design Awards.
Never heard of it? Here’s a little summary of the Red Dot Design Awards. One of the largest design competitions in the world, the Red Dot Design Awards rate vehicles based on aesthetics, functionality, ergonomics, quality, and ecological compatibility. That last one big win for the EV6, being an all-electric emissions-free vehicle. Dating back to 1955, the Red Dot Design Awards have a long history. This year, the juror panel consisted of 50 members of independent designers, design professors, and trade journalists Every year, the results are announced by the Design Zentrum Nordrhein-Westfalen, and divided into three disciplines: Product Design, Brands & Communication Design, and Design Concept.(more…)
Kia Corp is doing everything it can to bring its Plan S Strategy to life. With the automaker shifting all resources to Kia electric vehicles (EVs), then now is the best time to make it easier than ever for consumers to go green and switch to an EV. Kia America has a growing lineup of EVs and plug-in hybrids here in the states, and when it comes to EVs, there are many incentives popping up. On the west coast, Kia partnered with the Currently mobile charging service to offer free charging in California. If it goes well, other states may see the same thing, but if you don’t want to wait, Kia also partnered with Electrify America to offer free charging up to 1,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh) to new EV6 owners. This may also extend to other EVs by Kia, such as the Kia Niro EV – this electric crossover pretty much flew under the radar.
“With the 2020 Kia Niro ranked number one among mass-market brands in the inaugural J.D. Power 2021 Electric Vehicle Experience (EVX) Ownership Study, the 2021 model year arrives as largely a carryover but with technology and convenience enhancements. Niro EV continues to deliver an estimated 239 miles of range on a single charge and may be eligible for state and local utility incentives, depending on location of purchase.” Kia Media(more…)
