With all of Florida still under a stay-at-home order, and with an uncertainty of how long it will last, eventually, people are going to want to be able to go out or visit family and friends. With financial hardships and many industries seeing an all-time low, getting around won’t be easy. Being able to travel long distances on a budget will be something of great value. Kia Motors is one automaker seeing this fact already becoming common overseas, with European sales for new hybrid and electric vehicles going strong in the first quarter of 2020, despite global crisis and disruption caused by the spread of the coronavirus.

“The first three months of 2020 have been challenging for the whole industry due to social distancing and lockdown measures adopted across many European markets…However, we have seen growing sales for Kia’s range of hybrid and electric cars – every electrified model line we sell in Europe has seen sales growth this quarter. The arrival of new plug-in hybrid models, improved availability of EVs, and an expanded Ceed model family has also boosted our sales and market share this quarter.” – Emilio Herrera, Chief Operating Officer for Kia Motors Europe

All-in-all, during the first quarter of 2020, Kia’s market share has grown from 3.2 percent in the first quarter of 2019 to an all-time high of 3.7 percent. New electrified Kia models – hybrid, plug-in hybrid and electric vehicles – now account for nearly a fifth of all new Kia sales in Europe. With an automaker that claims to go all-electric in the coming years, Kia Motors already has a growing lineup of alternative fuel vehicles, and electric vehicles aren’t the last stop.

The latest news about Kia Motors becoming an all-electric automaker has seemed to die down, but not before the automaker unveiled the all-electric Futuron concept in late 2019. Set to be the first all-electric vehicle in the lineup that didn’t have an internal combustion engine model before it, the Kia Futuron may be a few years away, but not as far off as another alternative fuel source slowly gaining more attention – hydrogen fuel cells. This year, Kia Motors was originally supposed to release its first hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, following the footsteps of Hyundai Motor, in charge of the Hyundai Motor Group that Kia Motors is a part of.

Hydrogen fuel cells are definitely less practical than plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) and all-electric vehicles, but with the growing interest and popularity of alternative fuel vehicles worldwide, Kia Motors is already ahead of the competition with its wide selection of hybrid, PHEV, and electric vehicles (EVs). Making up the 2020 Kia Motors alternative fuel lineup are the Kia Niro, Kia Niro Plug-in, Kia Niro EV, Kia Optima Hybrid, and the Kia Optima Plug-in. With this wide selection between hybrid sedans and a hybrid crossover, there’s a little something for all kinds of consumers.

Are you in the market for a hybrid or plug-in hybrid vehicle? Maybe going green with an all-electric? Contact us at Miami Lakes Automall and ask about how we can help you shop for a new Kia Motors vehicle during a time of social distancing.

No matter what, Kia Motors keeps gaining awards with the largest SUV to grace its lineup, the 2020 Kia Telluride. Seriously, this baby has won award-after-award. Just last week, we got news of the 2020 Kia Telluride winning the All-Stars Award from leading publication Automobile magazine. Of course, anything after winning the “Triple Crown” of Automotive Awards, earning awards from MotorTrend, Car and Driver, and winning the Utility category in the North American Car, Utility and Truck of the Year Awards, is just gravy on top of some fine mashed potatoes. Most recently, Autotrader, the most recognized third-party car listings brand with the best need-to-know information when in the market for buying a new car, named the Kia Telluride the “Best New Car of 2020”. This declaration comes just a month after Autorader put the 2020 Kia Telluride on their “Best Interiors Under $50k” List.

Heralded for its powerful yet elegant exterior design, and the premium and tech-filled potential of the interior, the Kia Telluride is a bold SUC that stands out in an already crowded market full of SUVs and crossovers. How did Kia Motors manage this one? Well, it wasn’t easy.

Cloud computing and cloud storage is nothing new in the modern world. After Google Drive made it popular with the ability to never lose your data (although who said that’s a guarantee?) by storing it on the cloud. Although it’s not so much that data is just floating around on the interwebs as much as it is all stored on a large server that specific people have access to. Cloud-based subscription services have been popping up, and eventually, this kind of technology makes its way into the automotive industry. For instance, Zuora, Inc, the leading cloud-based subscription management platform provider, recently signed a deal with Kia Motors America to use the Zuora® platform in the launch of its new UVO Link subscription service.

What is UVO Link? By subscribing to this service, consumers get access to a collection of connected vehicle services and features through Kia Access with the UVO link app, an UVO Agent for Google Assistant, an UVO skill for Amazon Alexa, and a Kia Owner website. That’s definitely one connected vehicle! Car, home, and phone talking to one another, powered by the Zuora platform. Like any service, it will collect data from consumers over time to perform better, and as the system develops, more connectivity innovations from Kia can also be launched through Zuora.

Kia Debuts New 2021 Kia Sorento Ahead of Time

Friday, March 6th, 2020

The 2021 Kia Sorento should be a pretty nice SUV. We’ve only seen leaks of the new Kia Sorento thus far, but as luck would have it – well, maybe bad luck depending on where you are in the world, Kia Motors has decided to reveal the very first images of the next-generation Sorento ahead of time. Why? The original debut was set for the 2020 Geneva international Show, but sadly, the motor show has been cancelled for this year (2020) due to the huge Corona Virus outbreak. If you thought it was contained, think again, because there have already been several occasions of the virus affecting people in the U.S., so Switzerland isn’t taking any chances. But never mind that, we have new photos of the next-generation Kia Sorento to gush over.

It may not be much – the Sorento looks similar to past productions with the signature tiger-nose grille still and is a little on the boxy side with new LED headlights and some chrome detail. Still, the Kia Sorento tends to lean towards luxury, and inside, we learned there could be a large infotainment screen in the center of the dashboard, along with plenty of room to stretch out in the cabin. The 2021 next-gen Kia Sorento is said to be the concept of “refined boldness”, and from what we can see, it delivers.

Robust – tough-looking -these are adjectives that describe the new Kia Sorento. Maintaining the look of generations past, the Sorento has newfound refinement and elegance that pushes it beyond the everyday SUV. This has been sculpted with contemporary geometric details, a swept-back look, and elongated proportions that make the Sorento SUV look more confident, more mature, and more desirable than ever. To start, the front fascia has changed a bit, with new ‘tiger eye’ LED daytime running lights lending to the recent design taking over Kia Motors vehicles, the new “tiger face”.

Enough about the exterior. Inside, the cabin has also gotten a little upscale with the new design, introducing premium-grade materials and cutting-edge technology. Blending metallic trims, leather upholstery, and embossed wood-effect surfaces, the interior cabin is a mix of the finer things of olden times while still keeping the Sorento in the present with technologies to enhance connectivity, driver assistance, and infotainment. A 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system incorporating audio-visual navigation and Bose speakers (a first for Kia Motors) is there to play tunes or help drivers find their way around unfamiliar streets. With a new 12.3-inch high-resolution digital instrument cluster that provides crystal-clear information, the next-generation 2021 Kia Sorento is without a doubt becoming the most high-tech vehicle Kia has ever created.

The Kia Motors SUV lineup is shaping up to be pretty nice. We have the new 2021 Kia Seltos coming up, Stonic (overseas), Sportage, and Telluride SUVs, and the recent Kia Sorento is a product of collaboration amongst Kia Motors global design networks in Korea, Europe, and North America. Based on an all-new platform, the next-gen 2021 Kia Sorento midsize SUV is at the top of the list for space, practicality, efficiency, and quality. There is no yet set release date, but it shouldn’t be long. Follow along with all Kia Motors news when you follow Miami Lakes Kia on social media.

The 2020 Kia Telluride SUV may not have delivered all the cool technology the concept promised, but the largest SUV to come from Kia Motors is sure making a name for itself. Having won the “Triple Crown” of Automotive Awards with NACTOY 2020, Car and Driver 10 Best, and MotorTrend SUV of the Year, the Kia Telluride has a lot to love. Providing consumers with some luxury, and possibly aiming for the high rollers, the range for the Telluride goes from a starting MSRP of $31,690 (plus destination fee) to $40k or more. The 2020 Kia Telluride is perfect for pets and perfect for families, and the Telluride just won the 2020 MAMA Award, but it’s not what you think.

The Midwest Automotive Media Association

The Midwest Automotive Media Association, or MAMA, recently held its 2020 MAMA Family Vehicle of the Year awards. Every year, the Award is chosen by MAMA’s journalist members, with the voting starting all the way back in the spring of that year. To even be eligible for the award, a vehicle must have four doors and be new or significantly updated within a year of the MAMA Spring Rally (takes place in May). During the MAMA Spring Rally and Fall Rally, preliminary voting for the award occurs at both. A vehicle can be entered more than once but will only appear on the ballot once.

2021 Kia Seltos Offers Great Options at a Great Price

Ever since we learned that the Kia Seltos crossover will be coming to America after its initial success in India and Australia, good news about the 2021 Kia Seltos has been pouring in, like the 5-star safety rating the Kia Seltos received from the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) (testing the Australian-spec model, of course). Kia Motors has been highlighting the Seltos, making use of its Super Bowl spot to bring attention to youth homelessness, and just before released an advertisement highlighting their “Yards Against Homelessness” Initiative. Now that we know more about the U.S. specs and what the 2021 Kia Seltos will have to offer, let’s talk about options for the best this crossover can deliver.

Starting off, what we know about the U.S. Kia Seltos is that this model will come in five trim levels with two engine options and the choice of a front- or all-wheel drivetrain. Not bad for its first introduction to American shores, and with a starting MSRP of $21,990 (plus destination fee), consumers get a more than mild set up. The base model comes with the initial 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine as the standard setup, able to generate 146 horsepower and 132 lb-ft of torque, equipped with an 8.0-inch touchscreen with some form of UVO that powers Apple CarPlay and Google Android Auto compatibility, front-wheel drive, and outfitted with 18-inch wheels.

Kia Motors Debuts “Tough Never Quits” with New “Yards Against Homelessness” Initiative

Last year, Kia Motors started the “Great Unknowns” Scholarship and advertised this new foundation during the Super Bowl. Aimed to help impoverished youth so that they may go to college and further their education, Kia Motors is continuing their payback to the community in 2020 with their “Yards Against Homelessness” Initiative. Kia Motors will donate $1,000 for every yard gained during the game to charity partners Covenant House, Positive Tomorrows, and StandUp For Kids. With a new motto, “Give it Everything”, Kia Motors is focused on giving back, and is kicking off their new initiative with a heartfelt commercial starring NFL Offensive Rookie Running Back Josh Jacobs of the Las Vegas Raiders.

It’s a nice ad. Most people wouldn’t know that a rising star in the field was once homeless. Being a current rookie of the team, not much is known about his history aside from his early years, starting his football career in high school with the Titans and then committing to the University of Alabama to play college football. When it came to the 2019 NFL Draft, Oakland Raiders selected Jacobs in the first round. What a way to land on your feet!

The new commercial, “Tough Never Quits”, stars Josh Jacobs driving the upcoming Kia Seltos, available for the 2021 model year here in the states. Jacobs is driving around his home state of Oklahoma, reflecting on his past and the tough times he’s left behind – homelessness as a young boy. While driving, Jacobs sees another boy running, and in his mind, this boy becomes his younger self. He thinks back, as we all do from time-to-time, and asks, “Sometimes I wonder what I would tell my younger self if I ever saw him?”

miami-lakes-kia-plan-s-strategy

Kia Motors “Plan S” is going to be something else. Announced in January 2020, the mid- to long-term strategy has one solid goal: establish a leadership position in the future automotive industry, encompassing electrification and mobility services, connectivity, and autonomy. There are already several objectives in place, and the automaker will be quickly shifting from a business system focused on internal combustion engine vehicles toward one centered on electric vehicles and customized mobility solutions. We’ve already seen glimpses of this with the Kia Futuron concept, their first all-electric vehicle that was preceded by an internal gas combustion model, and their upcoming customization app for Kia EV models.

Here’s the outline:

  •       Offer 11 EVs by 2025 and obtain 6.6% global EV market share
  •       Launch a dedicated EV model in 2021
  •       Make 25% of all sales from eco-friendly vehicles by the end of 2025
  •       Sell 500,000 EVs worldwide and 1 million eco-friendly vehicles by 2026
  •       Develop mobility products and services

And much more.

2020 Kia Telluride Wins the “Triple Crown” of Automotive Awards

Monday, January 13th, 2020
miami-lakes-automall-kia-telluride-triple-crown

miami-lakes-automall-kia-telluride-triple-crown

By the end of 2019, we couldn’t get enough of the 2020 Kia Telluride, Kia Motors’ largest SUV in the total lineup. It seemed like every week the Kia Telluride was winning another award, and some were highly coveted. It takes a lot for a vehicle to end up on the “Best of” vehicle lists. Reviewers and automotive publications around the world all have their say, so when it comes to big names like MotorTrend and Car and Driver, we know that the vehicle is making a statement. That’s especially so when capturing one of the awards from the North American Car, Utility and Truck of the Year Awards. The 2020 Kia Telluride made it on all three lists and won its awards. They call this feat the “Triple Crown” of Prestigious Automotive Awards.

Yes, the 2020 Kia Telluride is the first sport-utility vehicle (SUV) to win the “Triple Crown” of the automotive industry’s most prestigious awards – the 2020 North American Utility Vehicle of the Year from North American Car of the Year (NACTOY); MotorTrend SUV of the Year; and landing on a Car and Driver 10 Best list. Capturing the three most illustrious awards in the automotive industry in the same year as its release is unheard of, but the Telluride was popular from day one. When the Kia Telluride was announced as a NACTOY finalist in December, we didn’t want to get our hopes up, but once again it smashes the competition.

MotorTrend heralded the 2020 Kia Telluride for its undeniable success, spearheading Kia Motors sales in March 2019 when it was first released, and selling more than 45,000 units by the end of the year. A judging panel evaluated vehicles on six key criteria – safety, efficiency, value, advancement in design, engineering excellence and performance of the intended function. The Kia Telluride won them all with its sharp style, a great starting price ($31,690 plus destination fee), and an assortment of advanced automatic safety features that come standard.

Landing on the Car and Driver 10 Best Trucks and SUVs list is no easy feat. After getting a good look at the Kia Telluride, its design, equipment, performance, and road manners, Car and Driver put it up against the rest of the competition. Winning vehicles were judged on their value, driving dynamics, and mission fulfillment. If the mission was to crush the competition, then the 2020 Kia Telluride nailed it.

Finally, the 2020 North American Utility Vehicle of the Year award. Just as much as an honor as any other, the NACTOY award is pretty high up there. Winning an award for 2020 is a first-time honor for the Kia brand but is one drop in the bucket of the amount of awards has received from major consumer and enthusiast publications since the three-row SUV appeared in dealerships. Still, after months of deliberation, test drives, comparisons, and other evaluations the Telluride was victorious over a selection of 12 semi-finalists and three finalists in the utility vehicle category. Offering the smooth ride and the rich interior of a luxury vehicle without the luxury price, it’s no wonder nearly 60,000 Tellurides have been sold-to-date (January 15, 2020), and dealerships can’t keep with the increasing demand.

“We are immensely proud of Telluride capturing North American Utility of the Year…It solidifies years of effort on behalf of every Kia employee to build vehicles consumers desire and industry experts value. Winning the North American Utility Vehicle of the Year is an honor that marks Kia’s arrival in the top tier of the world’s automotive manufacturers.” – Sean Yoon, CEO of Kia Motors North America

HMG, Kia Motors, and Uber Debut Air Taxi at CES 2020

Wednesday, January 8th, 2020

Wow, the 2020 Consumer Electronics Show is underway and automakers are blowing us away with some of the amazing technology they’re presenting. Although the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) is more so focused on personal electronic devices, it’s also an exhibition of technology, and what better way for automakers to share new technologies and integration by joining CES 2020? The Hyundai Motor Group and Kia Motors are definitely sharing the biggest surprise. The two have just joined Uber in their mission to design and produce air taxis.

Tell us if you heard this joke. Uber riders may one day become airborne. If that’s true, they’ll call it a Hyun-day. Get it? Hyun-day – Hyundai? You get it.

The Hyundai Motor Group is the first automobile group to join Uber in designing and producing air taxis that the everyday consumer can hail, just like people do every day with Uber and Lyft already. Except instead of driving through busy streets and dealing with traffic, we have lift off. Unlike regular airplanes that need a runway to gain speed and take flight, these air taxis will be electric, able to rise into the air from a standstill, powered by several propellers. The two will be creating a new network of personal transportation that no longer relies on the schedule of airlines or finding a licensed pilot.
