It’s finally that time of year when automotive journalists and publications get together and start to release their reviews, their “best of” lists, and release the results of any studies going on in 2021. There have been quite a few recently, especially putting some spotlight on Kia Corp, and the J.D. Power Initial Quality Study (IQS) is not an uncommon name when discussing the South Korean automaker. Kia has appeared time and again with high-ranking vehicles on the IQS, and in 2021, Kia takes home the title of “highest-ranked” in several vehicle segments.

The last two years have been a little rough for the automotive industry. First COVID in 2020, now the global chip shortage in 2021, it’s a surprise that so many made it through. This hardship is reflected in the 2021 J.D. Power IQS, making 2021 35 years of conducting this study. In total, the auto market improved quality by 2-percent in contrast to it’s typical 3-percent increase. Based on the study, infotainment systems and smartphone connectivity have become a problem for several automakers, but as the results will soon show, Kia Corp is rising to the challenge.

Kia Corp Has Record Sales for July 2021

Last week we talked about how strong Kia Corp continues to grow after the pandemic shook things up in 2020 and the semiconductor chip shortage is hurting just about everyone. Even so, Kia Corp closed out the first half of 2021, the second quarter ending in June 2021, with the highest ever record for first-half yearly sales – 378,511 units sold. Some might think it’s because it’s the first half of the year, people want to get out there and start driving again, maybe treat themselves to a new car or keep a new resolution to travel more. Well, the sales for July just came in, and Kia Corp continues to impress with the automaker’s highest July sales in company history.

“Kia continues to build on the momentum from our record breaking first-half by setting yet another recor…Kia sold more than 74-percent of our available inventory in July as compared to 34-percent during the same period last year, a solid reflection of the strong consumer interest in the brand.” – Sean Yoon, president and CEO of Kia North America and Kia America

That’s crazy. Sure, just about any automaker is going to sell more than they did last year, but even with the aftermath, Kia sold 74-percent of all available units produced. That’s not bad at all. The new record for Kia Corp for July sales is 70,099 units. The Carnival MPV was recently introduced and has seen a steady rise in sales. Kia posted the fourth consecutive month-over-month increase for the Carnival, marking the model’s highest monthly sales performance, with nearly over 3500 units sold in July, a total of 15,641 units sold to-date for 2021. The major breadwinners for July though are the Kia Forte, Kia Sportage, and Kia K5/Optima, followed by the Kia Telluride before falling under 8,000 units sold. In total, July sales were up by 34-percent year-over-year, or when comparing 2021 sales with 2020 sales.

These sales in July only help compliment some of Kia Corp’s success in July alone. Recognized with prestigious industry awards and accolades, the 2022 Stinger sports sedan was awarded the Top Safety Pick+ (TSP+) award by the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS). Most recently, the Kia K5 was named the most satisfying premium midsize car, and the Telluride rated as the most satisfying Large Crossover SUV during the 2021 Vehicle Satisfaction Awards by AutoPacific. Vehicle satisfaction is decided by real owners who take a survey designed to rate vehicles on 36 individual model attributes ranging from driving performance and features usability to seating comfort and interior design. More than 89,000 new car and light truck owners answered the survey this year. If you need a strong opinion, there it is.

Remember, the Kia Sportage is all-new for the new generation in 2021; the Kia Telluride is the automaker’s largest SUV to date (and there are rumors about an ell-electric variant); and the Kia K5 is the all-new generation of the Kia Optima, bringing its sports car style and performance to the forefront of the model. Kia even released a new GT-Line AWD Premium Package for the K5 to really show off its performance capabilities. The newest of them all is the Kia Carnival MPV, the most luxurious vehicle by Kia Corp thus far.Want to check out these new vehicles by Kia Corp? Find your new Kia vehicle at Miami Lakes Automall.

Kia Corp Wins Two Awards at 2021 AutoPacific VSAs

Kia Corp has been doing very well for the last few years, and with the new name and new logo, there is a lot more “new” coming, such as the recently released Kia Carnival MPV and all-electric Kia EV6. Sales have been skyrocketing, with a strong closing for the first half of 2021, and Kia sales in July 2021 already set the goal high for the rest of the year. July also brings another win to add to the belt before officially closing out – at the end of July 2021, AutoPacific wrapped up its 2021 AutoPacific Vehicle Satisfaction Awards (VSAs). The one and only Kia K5 sports car and the Kia Telluride both won awards for their respective categories during the 2021 VSAs.

Who is AutoPacific and what are the AutoPacific VSAs? A well-known and trusted name in the automotive industry, AutoPacific is a company that focuses on future-oriented automotive marketing research Many automakers consult with AutoPacific on new trends and furthering their success. Consumers in the market for a new car also look towards AutoPacific for consumer insight into the industry and reviews on the latest and newest vehicles in the market. The AutoPacific Vehicle Satisfaction Awards have been going on for 25 years, and for 2021, vehicle satisfaction was rated across 36 individual vehicle attributes, covering traits such as driving performance, features, usability, seating comfort, and interior design.

Like J.D. Power automotive studies, AutoPacific sends out surveys to current new car owners. Based on the responses, the winners for each car category are chosen. That being said, the results of the AutoPacific annual New Vehicle Satisfaction Survey came from a total of 89,000 new car and light truck owner responses. It’s a nice sample size of the population, if statistics are anything to go by, and this year’s winners are spread across 12 manufacturers and 14 brands for a good variety of automobiles.\

“Our VSAs give consumers true, unbiased insight into which vehicles are providing their owners with the most satisfying experience,” – AutoPacific president George Peterson

The 2021 Kia K5 was named the most satisfying premium midsize car, and the Kia Telluride won the award for the most satisfying Large Crossover SUV. This win comes soon after another accolade for Kia Corp, with the 2022 Stinger sports sedan earning a Top Safety Pick+ (TSP+) award from the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety back in June. The Kia Telluride may have the title of the lineup’s largest SUV, but the sports cars are slowly stealing the spotlight with new special edition Kia Stinger, a new package for the Kia K5, and the Kia EV6 GT.

Sometime in late-May/early-June, Kia Corp revealed the 2022 Kia Stinger Scorpion Special Edition. Heading to dealerships, the special edition is an U.S. market exclusive, with only 250 units available per month in production. After that, the Kia Stinger Scorpion Special Edition will be no more. For consumers interested, the Scorpion comes with a blacked out fender garnish, side mirror caps, and darkened exhaust tips; body-colored rear spoiler; 19-inch black wheels; and carbon fiber-pattern trim throughout the cabin. Available in Snow White Pearl, Aurora Black, or Ceramic Silver, the Kia Stinger Scorpion is built off of the GT2 trim and can be equipped with rear-wheel drive (RWD) or all-wheel drive (AWD).

The new generation of the Kia Optima became the Kia K5, and after a number of death-defying stunts in this Kia sports car by professionals, Kia Corp unveiled a new package to add a little more comfort to the K5. It’s the GT-Line AWD Premium Package, complete with a panoramic sunroof, heated steering wheel, LED projection headlights, Highway Driving Assist, and Navigation Based Smart Cruise Control-Curve. The GT2 alone is already pretty jacked with an assortment of new features for 2022, including a Surround View Monitor, additional wireless chargers, Driver Attention Warning, Blind-Spot Collision Avoidance Assist, Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist, Forward Collision Avoidance Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, and Lane Following Assist.Want to find your award-winning Kia? Kia Corp is proud of its latest sports cars added to the lineup. It starts with the Kia Stinger, released in 2018, and paving a new way for Kia Corp style and performance. Receiving a mid-cycle refresh, the Kia Stinger got upgrades for the 2022 model year of the Stinger sports car. In 2021, the Stinger was met with another contender for the belt, the Kia K5, originally known as the Kia Optima. Also refreshed and renewed for its new generation, the Kia K5 was all the automaker could talk about, and was quickly collecting automotive awards like the Kia Stinger. Celebrating both, Kia Corp is releasing a 2022 Kia Stinger Scorpion Special Edition and 2022 K5 GT-Line AWD Premium Package.

“Stinger was a wake-up call to a segment long populated by European sport sedans when it debuted in 2017 (as a 2018 model). It redefined what enthusiast drivers thought about Kia and proved we could compete against the best vehicles in a hotly contested space…Since then, Stinger has built a loyal following of those looking for something unique and the Scorpion is set to continue that approach.” – Sean Yoon, president & CEO, Kia North America and Kia America

Kia Motors Journey to the EV6

Back in 2019, during the 2019 Geneva International Motor Show, Kia Motors had recently announced that it would become an all-electric automaker with an Imagine by Kia concept. Later that year, Kia released one all-electric concept, the Futuron, and later another electric concept in April 2020. It would seem that the automaker has since split off into three directions since then – electric vehicles, purpose-built vehicles, and sports cars. If the 2021 Kia K5 is anything to go by, the new generation of the Kia Optima, then sports cars are alive and well in the Kia Motors lineup, and after the first wave of the pandemic, Kia Motors and parent group Hyundai Motors were in talks of purpose-built-vehicle (PBV) production. Did Kia Motors forget about electric vehicles (EVs)?

Not even close.

Before the first wave of the pandemic went global, Kia Motors announced its Plan S Strategy to become the leading automaker in the EV market. With a goal of a 6.6-percent global EV market share and 25-percent of all sales coming from eco-friendly vehicles by the end of 2025, there is still a ways to go. Still, this isn’t to say Kia Motors hasn’t been gearing up for its all-electric future. After the first wave of the pandemic hit and businesses started getting back to work, Kia Motors was quick to invest in a new 800-volt battery system for upcoming EVs. Before the end of 2020, the Hyundai Motor Group (HMG) and Kia Motors debuted a new BEV platform, called the E-GMP, dedicated to electric vehicles and future EV production.

Now that March 2021 has passed and the first quarter is over, many automakers are reporting their sales, and a lot of good news is going on compared with last year and the hit many in the industry took after the initial COVID-19 shutdown. Two years ago, the Kia Telluride was released in the first quarter of 2019, and this SUV spearheaded the sales for Kia Motors, making March 2019 the best first quarter performance for Kia Motors since 2016. Kia Motors sold 55,814 vehicles, with the all-new Telluride SUV making up about a tenth of those sales, with 5080 units sold. With the release of the Seltos, K5, Sorento, Carnival MPV in 2020 and 2021, sales have blown through the roof with 66,523 vehicles sold in March.

“After outpacing the industry last year, Kia is on the move again in 2021 and setting sales records as more new customers discover the world-class design and quality built into every one of our sporty sedans and capable SUVs…The successful launches of the all-new Sorento and Carnival have added to the momentum established by the Telluride and helped push the Kia brand to new heights with even greater potential for future growth.” – Sean Yoon, president and CEO of Kia Motors North America

The Kia Telluride minivan may have been out for a year already, and some may think that would mean the excitement would die down. When the Kia Niro hybrid first came out, its popularity carried all the way to an electric vehicle counterpart. The Kia Stinger had more of a BOOM-fizzle, hence the mid-cycle refresh of the sportscar (2022 Kia Stinger). But we’re talking about the Kia Telluride, the largest minivan in the Kia Motors lineup, and achieved a rare feat in the automotive industry. In the same year as its release, the 2020 Kia Telluride won the “Triple Crown” of Prestigious Automotive Awards. In other words, don’t expect the good news to die down anytime soon, because this new bragging rights come from the “Best 3-Row SUV for Families” list by U.S. News & World Report.

U.S. News & World Report – referred to U.S. News hereafter – is a well-known publication that covers national and international news in a number of industries. Since 1993, the publication has become a global leader in data and information in the following areas: Education, Health, Money, Travel, Cars, and Civics. Every time a list is put together, U.S. News takes a culmination of all data for that year, and the “Best 3-Row SUV for Families” list reflects choices based on feature availability, passenger and cargo volume, safety and reliability ratings, and the reviews of top automotive critics.

Kia Motors Reveals New Luxury K8 Sports Sedan

If there is one thing Kia Motors hasn’t been well-known for is luxury cars. Sure, the interiors are roomy and often come packed with technology, and their cars drive as nice as they look. But when it comes to car segments, Kia Motors is not classified as a luxury automaker. Even J.D. Power, that ranked Kia Motor as the highest brand during the 2020 J.D. Power Initial Quality Study did so as the highest non-luxury brand. Considered a mass-market automaker, it’s still a title Kia Motors has held for five years in-a-row now, but luxury? That’s definitely new, and Kia Motors is shooting for the title with its new K8 luxury sports car.

We saw inklings of what luxury means to Kia Motors when the automaker first released the new K5, previously named the Kia Optima, back with a more sporty appeal and high-end materials. Now that the automaker has shown us what it can do, it would seem Kia decided to go all in with a luxury vehicle when it came to designing and producing the Kia K8. A premium sports sedan, the interior is a first-class interior lounge that blends premium luxury style and comfort.

Kia Motors has been busy in recent months, reworking and releasing new versions of some of its popular vehicles, like the Kia Stinger refresh and new generation Kia Sorento. The automaker also recently revealed its Carnival Multipurpose Vehicle (or MPV), following the talk of purpose-built vehicles (PBV). The Kia Stinger received a mid-cycle refresh, and the Sorento is all new. Recently, Car and Driver magazine put together its Editors’ Choice Awards list, and one of the vehicles here made it – along with several other vehicles from Kia Motors – the Telluride, Sorento, Soul, K5, and Rio were all named as “2021 Editors’ Choice Award” winners.
