Kia Sweeping Awards for Best Car for the Money

miami-lakes-kia-stinger-u.s.-news-best-for-money

The new year is only two months in, but Kia Motors has already begun to blow us away with the 2019 Kia Niro EV, the electric vehicle (EV) variant of the original Kia Niro hybrid crossover, the debut of the 2020 Kia Telluride at the 2019 NAIAS, and autonomous technology concepts at the 2019 CES designed in conjunction with their parent group company, the Hyundai Motor Group. Speaking of which, both Hyundai and Kia Motors popped up on the “2019 Best Cars for the Money” list by U.S. News & World Report. As some may know, this accredited publication doesn’t mess around when it comes to their yearly lists, and the “Best Cars for the Money” is one to get attention.

SUVs and Minivans

Winning “Best 3-Row SUV” is the 2019 Kia Sorento, built with an upscale cabin, seating capacity of seven, and a low starting price of $26,290 (plus destination fee). Even the base trim, L, comes with UVO play on a 7-inch touch screen with a six-speaker system, and Android Auto and Apple CarPlay at that price. Runner-ups, or finalists in this category consisted of the Kia Sportage for “Best Compact SUV” and the Kia Sedona for “Best Minivan”.

Miami Lakes Kia 2019 Forte

A New Refreshed 2019 Kia Forte Is a Great Catch

Miami Lakes Kia 2019 Forte

With Kia Motors changing the focus of their auto brand with a new GT lineup, Kia will soon shake the auto market once again. Just like the automaker did with the Kia Stinger, the vehicle that started it all with its own GT trim, the new GT-Line from Kia will mark a whole new age for the brand. It all begins with the 2019 Kia Forte GT, debuted during the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show, and in Korea prior. Before the GT-Line takes over though, take a look at what makes the new 2019 Kia Forte so great.

Power

For consumers that want a spacious vehicle that is fuel-efficient while delivering performance, the 2019 Kia Forte can foot the bill. Kia Motors is known for making vehicles with spacious cabins, like the Kia Optima and Kia Stinger. The cabin is also pretty comfortable, allowing us to enjoy the 147 horsepower of the naturally aspirated 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder engine under the hood.

Optimized with dual continuously variable valve timing and multi-point injection fuel delivery, this engine comes paired to a six-speed manual transmission that comes standard on the base, but an intelligent variable transmission (IVT) with Sportmatic on the rest of the lineup (optional on the base). The engineering lends itself to a fuel economy of 27/37 mpg city/highway for the Forte FE with manual transmission, 31/41 mpg city/highway with the IVT. The rest of the lineup comes with a combined fuel economy of 34 mpg. On average, most consumers will have about 35 mpg over several hundred miles – not bad at all.

Kia Motors Gets New EV Charging Station App

Miami Lakes Kia EVgo Electric Vehicle Charging

Electric Vehicles. When consumers hear that blend of words, they may have the fear of being stranded in the middle of nowhere because their electric motor battery died and an electric charging station is nowhere in sight. That’s not necessarily true – especially in South Florida. Downtown Miami has many electric charging stations, and more EV charging stations are popping up in Brickell, South Beach, and Wynwood. Charging an electric vehicle gets easier every year, and with helpful apps like PlugShare, anyone with a smartphone can find the closest charging station to them. Automotive brands out there are taking notice, and the Hyundai Motor Group, owner of Kia Motors, has recently finalized a partnership with EVgo to make finding charging stations easier.

EVgo and Kia Motors

EVgo is the largest electric vehicle (EV) charging network in the United States. Operating as an app, EVgo works much like PlugShare. PlugShare can shows consumers all kinds of charging stations and filter the results, displays a Google Maps-type map to show the driver local charging stations on-the-go, as well as provide details about each. For EVgo, users would get similar features, able to get a quick look at available charges. That’s about to change with this new partnership.

Miami Lakes Automall 2020 Kia Soul Teaser

2020 Kia Soul Teased Before LA Auto Show

Miami Lakes Automall 2020 Kia Soul Teaser

The Kia Soul has always been the hatchback to seek after, and the 2019 brought with it few changes and options. Many thought this would be the highlight of hatchbacks for Kia Motors, but it’s about to take a backseat. Said to show up at the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show, the 2020 Kia Soul is all-new. Before that happens, Kia decided to toss a few teaser photos around. They don’t show much, but we’ll see the truth soon enough.

Oh, You Tease!

The first tease just showed us a profile of the rear of the new 2020 Kia Soul. Like all Kia Soul hatchbacks before it, the new Soul still looks boxy and has upswept rear windows. We’re seeing some style bleeding over from the Kia Stinger, as promised, but we couldn’t see much in the first shot.

Now check it out at the top of the page. What’s most appealing about this is the floating-roof design. Thanks to a matte-black strip across the entire top of the hatchback just before the roof makes it look as if the green roof is separate from the rest of the body. The taillight design looks a little longer and extends inward into the rear hatch based on spy shots. The second tease gave us a little more to look at though.

Slim headlights, pods to house another set of lights (maybe LEDs?), and a bit of a swept-back roof line to simulate that sporty look of the Kia Stinger. There is talk about another color for the roof as an option to offer some contrast to the rest of the body, but for now, that is just a rumor. There have yet to be teasers of the interior, too, but that’s what the LA Auto Show is for.

We can see a couple of changes. For one, the steering wheel has been upgraded to include phone and media controls in 2020. What stands out the most though is the new, wide, rectangular screen making up the touchscreen display for the infotainment system. There isn’t a whole lot of news about the tech and driver assistance features in the 2020 Soul, but the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show should change that.

The 2020 Kia Soul is said to have a new lineup of trims. We’ll be getting an LX, EX, S, the new GT-Line and a new X-Line. Ooh, what’s that? Kia Motors says the X-line of vehicles will have exceptional style, capability, and comfort. There will definitely be a focus on a sporty appearance of the 2020 Kia Soul for the GT-Line and the X-Line. It’s a lot to look forward to.

We’re only days away from the 2018 Los Angeles show, starting on November 30 and lasting until December 9, 2018. Press conferences are already happening, so we may hear something else before then. Follow us on Miami Lakes Kia social media to find out. You can also check out current Kia Soul models in our inventory.

Miami Lakes Automall 2019 Kia Forte Southwest Lifestyle Award

2019 Kia Forte Wins Southwest Lifestyle Award

Miami Lakes Automall 2019 Kia Forte Southwest Lifestyle Award

Not too long ago, the 2018 Specialty Equipment Market Association Auto Show took place, and Kia Motors rolled in with all sorts of concepts to show off. Many of these focused on the new Kia Telluride SUV with five trims on display. During SEMA 2018, Kia also showed us a look at the very first vehicle from their new GT Line, the 2020 Kia Forte GT. The current 2019 Kia Forte is already winning praise, along with its popular sibling, the Kia Stinger. Over the last year, the Kia Stinger has won many awards, and recently one a simple little award for the Kia Stinger digital ad campaign. Well now it’s time for the Kia Forte to shine, having just won the “Southwest Lifestyle Vehicle of the Year” Award.

Southwest Vehicle Lifestyle Award

Never heard of it? That’s because it’s the first of its kind – the first Southwest Lifestyle Vehicle of the Year awards were held recently at the Bondurant Racing School outside of Phoenix, Arizona. Many media journalists in attendance rated the Forte as the “Best Value” car, and following real-word evaluations, the all-new compact sedan won the award. Many can attest this to the refreshed look and performance with Stinger-inspired design and improved driving dynamics.

“The Kia Forte was really a standout in the Car of the Year field. It’s stylish, efficient, fun to drive, and comes with premium tech and safety features that you’d expect in a car costing thousands more…It really is a ‘Best Value’ in every sense and it exceeded our journalists’ expectations in almost every category.” – Becky Antioco, event director and founder of Southwest Lifestyle Media.

Miami Lakes Automall 2020 Kia Telluride Concepts 2018 SEMA Show

Kia Rolls into SEMA 2018 with New Concepts

Miami Lakes Automall 2020 Kia Telluride Concepts 2018 SEMA Show

Hot dang, Kia Motors knows how to keep a crowd guessing. Originally, Kia Motors was only thought to be showing off two vehicles modified by DUB at the 2018 SEMA Auto Show, like when they showed off the Kia Stinger that was modified by West Coast Customs last year. As it turns out, Kia was rolling in to show off a lot more than two slightly modified vehicles. Like we all expected, the Kia Telluride did show up, but we’re seeing quadruple with these concepts. Plus, the new GT Line from Kia Motors made an appearance as well.

The Mods

Okay, so first there was a teaser of a modified Kia Stinger GT and a modified K900. In partnership with DUB Magazine, both vehicles were given a bit of a makeover. Just when we thought the performance of the Kia Stinger GT couldn’t get any better, DUB added widebody fender flares, 22-inch wheels, a new exhaust, an air intake, and an air-adjustable suspension. To match the interior with the exterior, a lovely black and red color combination with leather upholstery takes the cabin to a whole new level.

Going with a similar path, the Kia K900 received 24-inch wheels, an air suspension for a smoother ride, and leather upholstery. To add a little color, DUB went with electric blue body paint and black accents to transform the K900. Lastly, Kia added a specially developed multimedia system just for this mod.

Kia Going GT

We discussed the upcoming Kia Motors GT Lineup, and we were almost 100-percent certain we saw the 2019 Kia Forte GT unveiled in Korea. And yes, the 2020 Kia Forte GT was displayed at the 2018 SEMA Auto Show. Due for release next summer, the powertrain was confirmed to be a 201hp turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine, front-wheel drive was announced as the only drivetrain available, and a set of 18-inch wheels comes standard. Maybe a later model will get that new transfer case Kia Motors is working on for the Kia Stinger GT.

Kia Telluride Concepts

Also showing up at SEMA 2018 were five Kia Telluride concepts. Slated to be released in 2020, the Kia Telluride still feels far away, but after showing up at 2018 Fashion Week in New York, the Telluride has shown it can be a versatile SUV. So if that’s the case, Kia Motors may be curious about testing possible trim concepts to get an idea of what consumers will be looking for or find interesting.

The stylish and outdoor-based Kia Telluride from Fashion Week returned to SEMA, along with the Telluride Horizon Roamer, Cadet Leader, Desert Drifter and Baja Glider. Each concept has its own flair while being built to tackle tough trails. Going by the above image, these are from left-to-right.

Yes, tough trails. As in an off-road vehicle, as in Jeep® has some healthy competition. Equipped to take on the Rubicon trail, the Kia Telluride Horizon Roamer comes with several hardcore off-road accessories, including a custom brush guard and skid plates, a straight-pipe exhaust located in the rear, and a snorkel for some deep water fording. Kia tops off this Telluride concept with a set of Black Rhino 32-inch wheels.

The second concept in line is the Telluride Baja Glider. With a number of unique features, a dark black paint job and a curved LED light bar attached to the roof separate this trim from the others. Except, like all the trim concepts, the Baja Glider rides in on a set of Black Rhino 32-inch wheels, wrapped in Milestar Patagonia mud terrain tires.

Okay, now we’re really seeing Kia aiming to compete with Jeep. Colored with a unique army green and matte black paint job, the Cadet Leader is basically the Horizon Roamer in camouflage. The Cadet Leader rides on Black Rhino 32-inch wheels, also wrapped in Milestar Patagonia mud terrain tires. This concept comes with a brush guard with a skid plate, a rear tube bumper with a skid plate, and a modified straight pipe exhaust.

Like the new Desert Hawk planned for the Jeep Compass, Kia Motors has their own desert-based SUV. Given another military look with a tan and black paint job, this Telluride looks built to go on adventures. Mounted on the roof is a roof rack with a light bar, and the front fascia also comes with a brush guard. There’s also roof-mounted rotopacks for extra gasoline when far out into the sandy dunes.

That’s all for now. Kia Motors kept their presentation tight-lipped, but in the end, wowza! What an entrance, and with plenty to of concepts and vehicles to show off. Stay up to date with more SEMA and Kia Motors news by following Miami Lakes Kia social media.

Miami Lakes Automall 2018 Kia Compact Crossover

Kia Motors Wins Digital Ad Campaign Award and Announces New Concept

Miami Lakes Automall 2018 Kia Compact Crossover

Lots of great things are happening for automotive group Kia Motors as of late. The 2020 Kia Soul is set to debut at the 2018 LA Auto Show, the 2019 Kia Forte GT was unveiled to kick off the Kia Motors GT Line, and as per usual, the Kia Stinger won another award for Kia Motors. That’s not the only good news though. The 2018 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show is going on right now, the last week of October 2018, first week of November 2018. A lot of new vehicles are planning to show up, but first, recent news.

Digital Ad Campaign Awards

Yeah, who knew car commercials, let alone any kind of commercial, can earn an award. I guess the guys that put together these one-minute films also want their credit and praise – it’s for the little guy! Who delivered the award? It was none other than Red Dot.

Who is Red Dot? Red Dot is an organization recognized as one of the most sought-after seals of quality for good design across the world. They have several awards that are delivered throughout the year, and an award for the “Automotive Brand Contest” was earned by Kia Motors for the Kia Stinger.

Miami Lakes Automall 2019 Kia Forte GT Debuts in Korea Featured

Kia Forte GT Unveiled?

Miami Lakes Automall 2019 Kia Forte GT Debuts in Korea

Wow, it seems like Kia Motors is nonstop with news about its upcoming vehicles. Everyone is loving the refreshed 2019 Kia Sorento, the new Kia Telluride SUV at Fashion Week 2018 gave us a whole new look at Kia SUV style, and we’ve heard the good news about the Kia Niro EV fuel efficiency, although the numbers keep changing (for the better). Most recently, Kia Motors has decided to break off from the Hyundai Motor Group path of performance and turn Kia Motors into a GT brand. We’ve heard tidbits about GT vehicles and concepts, but news about several GT models is popping up, including the return of the Kia Stinger GT4 concept as an electric-coupe.

Going GT

So, a “GT” car is also known as a “Grand Touring” car. Grand Touring vehicles tend to be an automobile in the style of a coupe, sometimes built for only two people, and designed to operate at high speeds while still keeping passengers comfortable. For instance, the Dodge Challenger GT is a four-passenger two-door coupe with all-wheel drive. The Kia Stinger is starting to lean in this direction.

The Kia Stinger is possibly the first Kia Motors vehicle to get the GT tag, with the Kia Stinger GT, GT1, and GT2 trims. It would also seem like the Stinger started a wave, and not just in terms of looks – we can already see several vehicles from the Kia Motors lineup borrowing the coupe style for future model years. The new craze is turning vehicles into agile GT cars, like the Optima GT, Kia Soul GT, Kia Rio GT, and most notably, the Kia Forte GT. More on the Kia Rio GT next week.

Miami Lakes Automall Kia Light Tactical Vehicle Feature

Kia has a Light Tactical Vehicle in the Army

Miami Lakes Automall Kia Light Tactical Vehicle Feature

Remember back in spring 2017, when the news about Kia Motors getting a hydrogen fuel cell vehicle by 2020 hit? It was sure something, and it sounds like a great idea if made practical. Basically, picture a car engine that runs on water. Add a little electrolysis, and we got hydrogen. Cars powered on natural resources, oh we can imagine the sudden rise in water bottle prices and people opening their own business by selling filtered tap water. Why make a car that puts the oil companies in bankruptcy right? Speaking of industries that make a lot of money off our tax dollars, Kia is also joining the Army.

Like Chevrolet that created a hydrogen fuel cell vehicle, a modified Chevrolet Colorado, for the U.S. Army, Kia Motors also wants a bite of the camouflaged pie. It’s hidden, but real, unlike the cake that’s a lie. How does Kia do this? Well, apparently, although a niche market, the demand for military vehicles is increasing every year. With how armored some of those units are, we can only imagine the dent in fuel efficiency when carrying a platoon of soldiers, equipment, and weaponry.

Miami Lakes Automall 2018 Kia Niro e-Niro

News About the Kia Niro EV Fuel Efficiency

Miami Lakes Automall 2018 Kia Niro e-Niro

During fall of 2018, we received more news about the three Kia Niro crossovers. There’s the original Kia Niro hybrid crossover, released in 2017, followed by the Kia Niro plug-in hybrid crossover by the end of 2018. Coming soon is an all-electric version of the Kia Niro, the Kia Niro EV. We got some great news about the interior of the Kia Niro EV and its all-electric range. Now with news about its recent recordings for the Europe model, we wonder if Kia Motors is still running tests and optimizing this electric crossover, or have the numbers for the U.S. been solidified?

Last time we discussed the Kia Niro EV, the powertrain had changed a bit from its original debut. For the Niro EV, Kia developed a next-generation electric vehicle powertrain with two options for consumers to choose from. The standard setup was a 39.2 kWh battery system that can travel 150 miles emissions free, but consumers can opt-in for the high-capacity 64 kWh lithium-polymer battery pack for 280 miles! That’s pretty great for an electric vehicle.
