Kia Collaborates with Electrify America for Free Recharging of Niro EV

Kia Corp is well on its way to becoming an all-electric automaker. Electrifying some golden oldies like Kia Sorento and Sportage into plug-in hybrid SUVs, the automaker released the first hybrid crossover, the Kia Niro, and then a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) and electric vehicle (EV) variant. Soon after, the all-electric Kia EV6 came out, the first EV without a gasoline predecessor. With the EV9 underway, Kia America is continuing to give drivers of new EVs another reason to go electric with free charging incentives with Electrify America.

Back in February, Kia America and Electrify America teamed up for a new EV6 incentive. For consumers who purchase a new Kia EV6, they get to enjoy 1,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh), free of charge, at any Electrify America station across the U.S. 1,000 kWh may be hard to understand in terms of range and power, so let’s break that down. The EV6 has an EPA-rated 310-mile range. According to Kelley Blue Book, the average consumer drives about 40 miles a day. With Electrify America offering about 3,500 to 4,000 miles of all-electric driving for free, that’s nearly four months of free electric charging for new Kia EV6 owners. Plus, eligible for the $7500 federal tax credit, anyone who buys a new EV6 this year gets a nice tax write-off when filing taxes next year (2023).

Kia America Enters Rebelle Rally with 2023 Sportage X-Pro

Rebelle Rally, the first all-women’s off-road rally and the longest competition of its kind in the lower 48 states, is becoming a fun race for automakers to enter vehicles into and show what they’re made of. Building teams with experienced racers and drivers, every year it seems like a new automaker joins the competition. Kia America is one such automaker, entering its first Rebelle Rally in 2020 and returning every year since. With a new model to enter the race, the 2021 team returns to snatch up first place this year.

“Kia’s longest running nameplate has a storied past of off-road desert racing with impressive results to boot in the Paris-Dakar rally and Baja 1000 race…An incredible off-road contender back then, the latest iteration of the Sportage will build upon its legacy by tackling the arduous Rebelle Rally with finesse, especially with such a fierce team at the helm.”- Steve Center, COO and EVP, Kia America

Kia EV9 in Final Testing Phase

Back in 2019, Kia Corp (then Kia Motors) announced that it was going to become the next all-electric automaker to take over the auto market. Once its parent group, (HMG) developed the Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), Kia was able to get to work on its first all-electric vehicle with no precedent. The Kia EV6 shocked the industry – an electric vehicle (EV) that also offers high performance? It sounded amazing, but the EV6 GT could accelerate from 0-62 mph in 3.5 seconds. Last year, Kia previewed the next all-electric vehicle to join the lineup, an electric SUV sharing striking similarities with the Kia Telluride SUV, the Kia EV9.

Kia revealed the EV9 concept in November 2021, and we got a good look at it during the 2022 Chicago Auto Show. It definitely looks like a Telluride, and the EV9 has been spotted being tested on public roadways more than once. Now that the electric SUV has entered its final testing phase, Kia Corp announced the world premiere of the Kia EV9 during the first quarter of 2023. Although we love the EV6, Kia has announced that the EV9 will also become the new flagship model of the brand, the icon of EV performance on tracks, roads, and a variety of terrain conditions.

The 2023 Kia Telluride Gets a New X-Pro Model

Who watched the Emmy’s over the weekend? Going on for over 70 years, the 74TH EMMY® AWARDS on NBC have concluded, and during its prime time, Kia took up some ad space for its new creative campaign and in-show video integration. Putting the spotlight back onto the Kia Telluride SUV, the automaker’s most-awarded vehicle ever, the Telluride is entering 2023 with its own X-Pro model. The last model to get the X-Line treatment was the 2023 Kia Sportage PHEV. We wonder what enhancements will come with the Kia Telluride X-Pro.

“The Kia Telluride took the Kia brand to new heights both literally and figuratively and now we’re showcasing just how rugged, capable and refined the new Telluride X-Pro is and how far off the beaten path it is ready to go…Telluride is Kia’s most capable SUV ever and we wanted to show how it can adapt to a variety of situations, no matter what ‘genre’ of lifestyle people lead. Kia is proud to return as the Official Automotive Sponsor of the Television Academy and the 74th EMMY Awards for the third consecutive year and we have created video vignettes that play off the various award categories and celebrated television genres to highlight the versatility of Telluride with our 60-second spot displaying the SUV’s rugged capabilities.” – Russell Wager, vice president, marketing, Kia America

Kia Enters Into Partnership with Deutsche Bahn for EV Battery Recycling

Electric vehicles (EVs) and battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) are growing in the auto market, and that’s a great thing for the environment. Zero-emissions, less fossil fuels, and a more sustainable fuel source. There is the other side of the coin however – how does the impact the environment? Mining for the materials and resources to make EV batteries, and then what happens to those batteries once depleted? Do they end up in a landfill somewhere? Kia Corp and the Hyundai Motor Group (HMG) are working towards new forms of battery management service and battery reuse and recycling with new partner Deutsche Bahn (DB Bahnbau Gruppe).

This isn’t the first time the automotive group has entered into a collaboration to change how battery supply and their lifetime can affect the environment. In 2020, HMG partnered with SK Innovation Co. to find ways to maximize the value of EV batteries, even when they are no longer suitable for EVs and BEVs, but still make them eco-friendly to continue to reduce carbon emissions. Not only can increasing their value make them a stronger asset for the future of mobile solutions in the auto industry and public and private transportation, but it will give EV batteries a more positive “image”. Using the Kia Niro EV batter pack as a starting point, solutions for how used EV batteries could still be used in a variety of applications, including new forms of Energy Storage Systems (ESS) that are reusable and portable. The partnership with Deutsche Bahn aims to do something similar on a larger scale.

Several Kia Models Named in MotorTrend’s Ultimate Car Rankings

As we near ever closer to the end of the year, automotive organizations, publications, and groups are going to start rounding up their “Best of” lists and high-ranking vehicle models to share the news with the consumer base. Just in case anyone is currently in the market for a new vehicle, such information and data is truly a vital resource to have on hand. That’s why big names like MotorTrend are who to look for when it comes to ranking the best vehicles for 2022. Having landed on a MotorTrend list more than once, named as the “SUV of the Year” by MotorTrend in 2020, it’s no surprise the Kia Telluride SUV returns in 2022, grabbing top honors in MotorTrend’s Ultimate Car Rankings for the second half of 2022.

“We are honored so many of our vehicles have been recognized, especially the EV6, which continues to reaffirm its leadership status among an impressive field of electrified competitors…While these rankings reinforce our advancement in electrification thus far, we’ll only become more formidable as our ‘Plan S’ strategy continues to unfold.” – Steve Center, COO and EVP, Kia America

Since its release, the Kia Telluride wowed consumers. Sure, it didn’t come with all the fancy features promised in the original Kia Telluride concept, but the 2020 Kia Telluride spearheaded sales for Kia during its initial release. Winning awards and earning honors ever since, popping up again on a MotorTrend list is no surprise. We’re hoping for another “Triple Crown” this year, but who really knows with all the amazing vehicles coming out lately, especially with the hot electric vehicle (EV) race in the auto industry.

The 2022 Kia Telluride is not alone, however. Also landing amongst MotorTrend’s Ultimate Car Rankings are the Kia 2022 Rio Sedan and Rio Hatchback captured top honors for their respective segments: subcompact sedan and subcompact hatchback. The Telluride was of course the winner for the 3-row SUV segment. But wait – EVs are also making a lot of noise, and many Kia electrified vehicles took home the top honors. These include the 2022 Niro, Sportage Hybrid and Sorento Hybrid taking second place in the Compact Hybrid Hatch, Compact Hybrid SUV, and 3-Row Hybrid SUV segments, respectively. The EV6 also made an appearance, taking the second place ranking for Electric SUVs.

Now that’s a true honor for Kia. So many models were ranked the best of the best in their class, and there’s no stopping the automaker. MotorTrend’s Ultimate Car Rankings originally launched in 2020 to help the average car buyer better understand their options, and with their many long-running Car, Truck and SUV of the Year award competitions, consumers can rest assured that the vehicles on every list have been ranked based on how well a car drives, its long-term value, safety, efficiency, driving range, and technology, to name a few categories that affect a vehicle’s ranking. As competition between automakers continues to rage on, publications like MotorTrend are the ones to look for when buying a new car. Once you’ve done the research, you can find a new Kia model at Miami Lakes Automall any day.
