Kia Telluride Named a Best Family Car by KBB 2022

Ever since its release, the Kia Telluride, the largest SUV in the automaker’s lineup, has been renowned worldwide. Winning awards left and right, the model earned itself the “Triple Crown” of Automotive Awards in 2019, winning the 2020 North American Utility Vehicle of the Year from North American Car of the Year (NACTOY award, named as the MotorTrend SUV of the Year, and landing on a Car and Driver 10 Best list. We don’t see the attention dying down any time soon, and the Telluride was named the Best 3-Row Midsize SUV by Kelley Blue Book (KBB) in December 2021, and the automotive reviewer of the same name just called the Kia Telluride one of the Best Family Cars of 2022. No surprise here, as this marks the third year the vehicle has taken top honors during this KBB awards list.

“The award-winning Telluride has been impressing industry experts and consumers alike since going on sale three years ago…With an unrivaled combination of value, comfort, utility and convenience, we are confident that Kia’s largest SUV will continue to succeed in a highly competitive segment, and this latest award from Kelley Blue Book is proof.” Not surprisingly, 93 percent of Telluride owners rate ‘usefulness for carrying passengers and cargo’ either truly outstanding or excellent, higher than all other competitors in the segment. – Steven Center, COO and EVP, Kia America

U.S. News Reports Kia Telluride as Best 3-Row SUV for Families for a Third Time

The Kia Telluride SUV has been a winner since its debut. The largest SUV in the lineup, the Telluride went on to spearhead the sales for Kia in the month of its release, March 2019. Winning award after award, the SUV racked them up, and the Kia Telluride earned the “Triple Crown” of Automotive Awards – the 2020 North American Utility Vehicle of the Year from North American Car of the Year (NACTOY); MotorTrend SUV of the Year; and landing on a Car and Driver 10Best list. In November 2021, the Telluride made the 2022 Car and Driver 10Best list, and in December 2021, shared some of the spotlight with the Kia Seltos, winning awards from Edmunds and Kelley Blue Book. As the spring 0f 2022 finally begins, consumers will be looking for new vehicles to go to the beach and get some fresh air. What better than an award-winning SUV like the Kia Telluride? In fact, the Kia Telluride was just named the “Best 3-Row SUV for Families” by U.S. News & World Report for the third-year-in-a-row.

That’s right. The Kia Telluride also earned the title of “Best 3-Row SUV for Families” by U.S. News & World Report back in March 2021, and surprisingly, in 2020 when many auto shows were shut down and awards were put on pause once the COVID-19 pandemic went worldwide. For those that don’t know, the U.S. News & World Report – referred to U.S. News hereafter – is a well-known publication that covers a wide range of industries, reporting on national and international news. The automotive industry is clearly one of these, along with Education, Health, Money, Travel, and Civics. Reporting since 1993, U.S. News has become a global leader in data and information analysis. A trusted name, all the data for the previous year helps make the choices for each award-winning title U.S. News has. To be named on the “Best 3-Row SUV for Families” list, vehicle models are judged based on feature availability, passenger and cargo volume, safety and reliability ratings, and the reviews of top automotive critics.

“The Kia Telluride hits the sweet spot for families in a number of ways, and this year it brings home its third ‘Best 3-Row SUV for Families’ award in a row…It offers a number of safety and technology features that ease the task of family transportation, as well as comfortable seating and a large cargo hold. A strong reliability rating and an impressive powertrain warranty provide some extra assurance if you plan to keep the Telluride for the long haul.” – Jim Sharifi, managing editor of U.S. News Best Cars

Last year, the Kia Telluride continued to do very well, generating strong sales for Kia Corp. With a total of 93,705 units sold in 2021, the Kia Telluride showed a solid 25-percent sales increase from 2020. That kind of popularity will surely make the upcoming Kia EV9 all-electric SUV a success as well. Although not explicitly stated, the boxy look of the EV9 resembles the Telluride in a number of ways, but the new electric models seem to be following a pattern for their monikers. What happened to EV7 and EV8, though? Regardless, with the Kia Telluride continuing to win awards in 2022, you can see why when you come to Miami Lakes Automall for your own 2022 Kia Telluride SUV.

Go Electric with the Kia Niro EV

Kia Corp is doing everything it can to bring its Plan S Strategy to life. With the automaker shifting all resources to Kia electric vehicles (EVs), then now is the best time to make it easier than ever for consumers to go green and switch to an EV. Kia America has a growing lineup of EVs and plug-in hybrids here in the states, and when it comes to EVs, there are many incentives popping up. On the west coast, Kia partnered with the Currently mobile charging service to offer free charging in California. If it goes well, other states may see the same thing, but if you don’t want to wait, Kia also partnered with Electrify America to offer free charging up to 1,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh) to new EV6 owners. This may also extend to other EVs by Kia, such as the Kia Niro EV – this electric crossover pretty much flew under the radar.

“With the 2020 Kia Niro ranked number one among mass-market brands in the inaugural J.D. Power 2021 Electric Vehicle Experience (EVX) Ownership Study, the 2021 model year arrives as largely a carryover but with technology and convenience enhancements.  Niro EV continues to deliver an estimated 239 miles of range on a single charge and may be eligible for state and local utility incentives, depending on location of purchase.” Kia Media

Kia America Partners with Currently Mobile Charging Service

Wow, Kia America is really pushing the envelope with their all-electric Kia EV6, and we can’t blame them. Ever since Kia Corp announced that it would become the next all-electric automaker, Kia released its Plan S Strategy to become the global leader in electric vehicle (EV) sales and more. The automaker shifted all of its focus and resources to Kia EV development, and we learned a lot more about what Kia Corp is planning during the Kia 2022 CEO Investor Day digital conference. Recently, Kia America signed a great contract with Electrify America, where Kia EV6 consumers can get up to 1,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh), free of charge, at any Electrify America station across the U.S. Making it even easier to find a charge, the newest partnership is between Kia America and the Currently mobile charging service.

It’s like Triple a (AAA), but instead of needing a tow or some gasoline when stranded out on the road, Currently is a mobile charging service that can be called on whenever, wherever – no broken down car necessary. Like setting up an appointment with any other kind of technician, consumers have been able to call up Currently and arrange a time for a technician to come charge up their plug-in hybrid or EV, whether at home, work, or while out and about. It’s easy to do, and Kia America is now providing its EV owners with this on-demand concierge service, now available in three important California markets: Los Angeles, San Francisco, and San Jose. Depending on the success of the program, expansion to other cities will be next.

2022 Kia Carnival MPV Wins 2022 Autotrader Best New Car Award

If you’re a prospective consumer looking to buy a new car or in the market for a lease, then automotive publications like Autotrader may be a well-known name by now. Known for their reviews, car buying information, and the lists they put together every year, Autotrader is a lot like the many other websites out there helping consumers get the details about a car purchase before setting foot on the lot. In February 2021, Autotrader put together its “Best New Cars for 2021” list, and the new 2021 Kia Sorento and Kia K5 were named on the list. This year, the all new multi-purpose vehicle from Kia Corp earned its place for the “Best New Cars for 2022” by Autotrader, the new 2022 Kia Carnival MPV.

“The Kia Carnival is notable for two specific reasons. First, it proves you don’t need to buy from a traditional luxury brand to get a truly luxurious vehicle. And second, Kia has taken the best parts of a family car and combined those with the utility, look, and appeal of a high-end SUV…Kia vehicles are so significantly different today versus just a few years ago, new car shoppers owe it to themselves to test drive a Kia before making a final decision.” – Brian Moody, Executive Editor, AutoTrader

Kia Receives Eight Top Safety Pick and Plus Ratings from IIHS in 2022

Kia Corp may be going through some amazing changes, recently shifting all resources into Kia electric vehicle development, but aside from electric vehicles (EVs) and futuristic-looking cabins, Kia is also about safety. With basic and advanced safety features found in every vehicle in the lineup, Kia Corp has won many awards for its technology and safety. Many of these awards have come from the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS). In 2018, eight Kia models earned a Top Safety Pick (TSP) or TSP+ rating, and six Kia models earned a TSP in 2020. In 2021, the 2022 Kia Stinger received a TSP+ from the IIHS, and the new luxury Kia Carnival also earned a TSP rating. For the 2022 model year, Kia Corp has tied for the second most TSP and TSP+ ratings to be received for a brand with the Kia Telluride, Kia Sorento, Kia Seltos, Kia Carnival, Kia Sportage, Kia Soul, Kia K5, and Kia Stinger.

“As the Kia brand makes a momentous shift toward electrification with our next generation of vehicles, passenger safety remains a top priority…These eight TOP SAFETY PICK and TOP SAFETY PICK+ accolades from IIHS are the direct results of our commitment to delivering the highest standards for crash readiness, structural integrity and available safety systems for our customers.” – Sean Yoon, president and CEO of Kia America, Kia North America

A little review for how the IIHS works. When it comes to testing vehicles for safety, the organization puts vehicles through a total of five tests for crashworthiness. The term is exactly what it sounds like – how worthy is this vehicle of crashing? As in, if this vehicle were to be involved in an automotive accident, is this the vehicle the driver and passengers would want to be in? Many automakers will boast safety features, and consumers will buy that brand based off the ads and commercials, but an IIHS rating is better than any marketing campaign. With tests for the driver-side small overlap front, passenger-side small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength, and a head restraint test, IIHS measures the safety of a vehicle when it comes to crash avoidance and mitigation.

To receive a TSP+ or even a TSP, a vehicle must receive high marks on the IIHS rating system. The rating system consists of “Poor”, “Marginal”, “Acceptable”, or “Good”, plus a separate rating system for safety features – Basic, Advanced, and Superior. This is a very thorough way of testing a vehicle, and to receive a TSP, a vehicle must receive at least an “Acceptable” rating on all five tests, and an advanced on the safety features. A “Good” rating for the tests and a “Superior” rating for the safety features would result in a TSP+ for most vehicles. Of course, as always, the IIHS tends to have its requirements for each rating. For instance, the above eight mentioned models all received high ratings, but the IIHS also states some required features, such as the Kia Carnival built after March 2021 with LED projector headlights, or the Kia Soul with optional front crash prevention and specific headlights. Like many models, the Kia Soul offers forward-collision warnings, automated emergency braking, lane-departure warnings, lane keep assist, and adaptive cruise control. Adding safety and luxury to the lineup, the Kia Carnival MPV comes equipped with 12 standard Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) features, such as Forward Collision Avoidance-Assist, Blind-Spot Collision Avoidance-Assist, Parking Distance Warning-Reverse, and High Beam Assist. These are just examples of the advanced safety features Kia Corp is putting into new Kia models. Find your new Kia at Miami Lakes Automall.

Kia EV6 Wins 2022 European Car of the Year

Kia has had a lot of good media for its first all-electric vehicle, the Kia EV6. Receiving awards and high rankings by many automotive publications and organizations, the EV6 has quickly become a highlight of the lineup. During the 2022 Chicago Auto Show, one of our writers got to test drive an EV6 and noted about how smooth and powerful it was for an electric vehicle (EV). Recently, Electrify America and Kia joined forces to give new EV buyers a huge incentive with free EV charging at Electrify America charging stations (limitations apply). Just before the end of February, the EV6 got another feather in its cap, named the 2022 Car of the Year in the prestigious European Car of the Year (COTY) awards.

“It’s a great honour to have won the 2022 European Car of the Year with the EV6, the first ever Kia to win this prestigious award. The EV6 is truly a landmark development that’s been designed from the outset to make electric mobility fun, convenient and accessible by combining a highly impressive real-world driving range, ultra-fast charging capabilities, a spacious high-tech interior and a truly rewarding driving experience. The EV6 is an exciting sign of what’s still to come in our evolving electrified line-up.”  – Jason Jeong, President at Kia Europe

This was no easy feat. The competition this year was huge, but the Kia EV6 beat the Hyundai IONIQ 5, Ford Mustang Mach-E, Škoda Enyaq iV, Cupra Born, Renault Mégane E-Tech, and Peugeot 308 for the title. A strong jury consisting of 61 highly respected motoring journalists from 23 European countries, there was no favoritism here. With multiple perspectives taking a look at the list, over sixty models launched during 2021 made the list, and in November, the list was whittled down to just seven vehicles, six of which were EVs. With the success of EVs rising, it makes sense that the auto market and consumer base is shifting towards alternative fuel now more than ever.
