Kia Motors America and the Community in 2020

Connecting with the community and the local youth can sometimes be a challenging aspect for an automaker. How does one connect without also trying to sell a product? The year of 2020 and the pandemic gave many automakers a chance to help their local communities and give back, getting involved and offering free vehicles for transportation of goods. Kia Motors is one of these automakers and is known for getting involved with the youth in the community most recently in the last few years. Always hosting or sponsoring some new function, Kia started the Great Unknown Scholarship in 2019 and started a donation initiative to fight homelessness. Kia is also known for getting involved with entertainment, such as sponsoring the 2019 European League of Legends (LoL) Championship Series and up and coming K-Pop band BLACPINK. As 2020 comes to a close, Kia Motors continues to get involved with the community and connect with a younger generation.

It’s a smart play, anyone in the business world knows this. As the years go by, a new demographic is going to be dominating the automotive market. Generation Y and Gen Z will eventually be the only consumers automakers will have to appeal to, so why not get involved with similar interests? As mentioned, since 2019, Kia has been sponsoring the LoL, and starting next year (2021), Kia has a multi-year naming sponsorship with DAMWON Gaming, the winner of the 2020 LoL World Championship. Playing under the name of DWG Kia going forward, the team will be getting new logos and uniforms along with many numerous marketing campaigns between DWG and the Kia brand for sweet exposure and possibly more sponsors.

An In-Depth Look at the New E-GMP Platform

We’re finally in the final days of 2020, and everyone is hoping for a HappIER New Year for 2021. This just wasn’t the year we were expecting. There are some interesting things happening in the automotive world amidst all the madness. In early December, Hyundai Motor Group (HMG), also known as The Group, also known as the automotive group that Kia Motors belongs to, HMG unveiled its new Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), a dedicated battery electric vehicle (BEV) platform for future vehicles. Building a fully-dedicated system for upcoming and new electric vehicles is not only a step in the right direction for streamlining electric vehicle (EV) production, but also opens up a whole new lineup of EVs. After all, why invest in a BEV platform if there are no plans to use it?

“Today our front-wheel driven Hyundai and Kia BEVs are already among the most efficient ones in their segments…With our rear-wheel driven based E-GMP, we are extending our technological leadership into segments where customers demand excellent driving dynamics and outstanding efficiency.” – Albert Biermann, President and Head of R&D Division for Hyundai Motor Group

Standardization is a Key Strategy

As we mentioned, having a dedicated BEV platform allows for quicker production of BEVs and EVs going forward. With the E-GMP, The Group suspects that the platform will be flexible enough for sedans, SUVs and even crossovers, with a high-performance model able to accelerate from 0-60 mph under 3.5 seconds, with a top speed of 160 mph. Now that is some powerful stuff for an electric vehicle.

Kia Motors has once again been voted as the automaker with the best Certified Pre-Owned Value…wait, we just talked about this! But it’s so true that not one, but two different organizations have voted and made it so! Just a few weeks ago, Vinentric awarded the Kia Rio during the Vincentric Awards with the Best CPO Value in America Award. Just a day later, Kia Motors America also shared the news that Kia Motors also won two out of three awards in the Popular Brand Category during the 2021 IntelliChoice Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) Car Awards. The good news just keeps raining down on Kia Motors.

“We’re proud to be recognized by IntelliChoice for our CPO program as it is an important component of Kia’s overall commitment to our customers…Similar to our new car offerings, it is our aim to provide the highest quality, best warranty, and lowest cost-of ownership for every pre-owned vehicle we sell.” – Sean Yoon, president & CEO, Kia Motors America, Kia Motors North America

Intellichoice is a part of the well-known name MotorTrend. A part of this group, Intellichoice has been known as a market leader in automotive ownership cost and car value analysis since 1986. Kia K5 Wins a CarBuzz Award for 2020

The Kia K5 is the sports car from Kia Motors we’ve been waiting for. In all actuality, the Kia K5 has been around for years. Remember the Kia Optima? Same car, different name, and a whole different look. We’re not sure why Kia Motors America (KMA) changed the name to what the vehicle is known as in its South Korean market, but with all the crazy wicked stunts the Kia K5 has been doing since the name change. The next generation of the Optima, the K5 has been redesigned to look like the sports car it was always meant to be, almost on par with the Kia Stinger, a luxury sports car affordable by all. Heck, the Kia K5 is just as affordable, with a starting MSRP of $23,490 (plus destination fee). The Kia K5 also just landed a place in the winner’s circle during the CarBuzz 2020 People’s Car Awards.

Who Is CarBuzz?

Although a well-known name in the industry, anyone just entering the auto market may not have heard of CarBuzz. Like the many publications and organizations out there reviewing vehicles all year long, CarBuzz informs consumers by providing them with industry news and reviews, all for free of course, to help consumers make an informed car buying decision. It can be a little overwhelming, and having all this information ready on a mobile device takes away some of the stress. Now the brand’s most powerful mid-size sedan ever with turbocharged engines, available all-wheel drive, and a technology-packed premium interior, it’s no wonder so many are heralding the new Kia K5.

Kia Motors Won 2020

The year is almost over, and we’re sure there are still some awards and accolades that could come out before the New Year, but we’re just so proud of Kia Motors and the recognition the automaker has received during a year where celebration didn’t seem very common. And yet, sometimes you have to take the wins you get. They eventually all add up, and for Kia Motors, it’s a stellar portfolio of excellence with a bright future.

The 2020 Kia Telluride won the “Triple Crown” of Automotive Awards, having won the MotorTrend SUV of the Year, getting a place on the Car and Driver 10 Best list, and winning 2020 North American Utility Vehicle of the Year from North American Car of the Year (NACTOY). Vincentric Awards Kia Rio with Best CPO Value in America Award

In a year where just about everything has been undependable, it’s nice to know that consumers can still get where they need to go. Automobiles have really changed the world, in many ways, and in one way that many may not think about – shopping. When shopping for a car for purchase or lease, consumers are in a whole different scenario. This isn’t just a computer to do business on, or a product that you can return if it turns out you didn’t need it. It’s an important investment, and when investing thousands of dollars into something, people usually want to make sure they’re going to walk away for the better. When it comes to automobiles, a little assurance of its long-standing quality is always nice, and Vincentric did just that with its “Best Certified Pre-Owned Value in America” award, going to the Kia Rio.

“The Kia Rio had a best-in-class performance in the 2021 Vincentric Best CPO Value in America Awards, helped by its low maintenance and repair costs…The Rio proved its strong CPO value by outperforming its competitors in the Subcompact segment, making it a smart choice for consumers.” – David Wurster, President of Vincentric

HMG and Kia Motors Have a New Dedicated BEV Platform

Alternative fuel vehicles are slowly popping up from just about every automaker these days. To not realize that plug-in hybrids and electric vehicles (EVs) are not the face of the future is a fantasy only oil companies believe in. Sure, fossil fuels were made over millions of years ago from decaying plant matter under tons of pressure, but one day it will run out. Of course, lithium and cobalt, and how we recycle these materials is another issue to address but going electric will eventually be an option many automakers must face. Others have been going in full-tilt for years now, and with Kia Motors testament to becoming the next all-electric automaker, it’s going to need a little help from its parent automotive group, the Hyundai Motor Group (HMG), also known as The Group. Recently, The Group revealed a brand-new electric platform for its next generation of battery electric vehicles (BEVs).

BEVs and EVs are basically the same thing, so don’t get confused. Why some automakers felt the need to add “battery”, unsure, but the E-GMP will be the first dedicated BEV platform to come from HMG. The full name for this platform is Electric-Global Modular Platform and was revealed during a digital event to keep in line with social distancing of a post-pandemic world. Whether this new platform makes up the foundation of Kia Motors first all-electric vehicle (that has no predecessor), the Kia Futuron, is uncertain. However, HMG states that the E-GMP will become the platform for all new BEVs, starting in 2021.

Urban Air Mobility Vision by The Group Named “Best Innovations in 2020”

Before the Coronavirus spread across the world and automotive shows were still being looked forward to, the 2020 Consumer Electronics Show, taking place in January every year, got lucky. Although it’s called a “Consumer Electronics” show, don’t let the title fool anyone. Automakers will still take this time as a chance to show off new concepts, usually automotive technologies, and build attention for upcoming features for future models. During the 2020 CES, Kia Motors, in conjunction with the Hyundai Motor Group, and in partnership with Uber, there was a pretty interesting concept “floating” around. It’s the futuristic Uber Air Taxi, and it caught the attention of Etisalat, a leading telecommunications company in Africa and the Middle East, just in time for the 2020 GITEX Technology Week.

Although most shows and public exhibits have been shut down for the year, GITEX Technology Week is taking place between December 6–10, 2020 at the Dubai World Trade Centre. Currently called the Hyundai Motor Group’s Urban Air Mobility (UAM) vision concept, or S-A1, was named on the Etisalat “Best Innovations in 2020” list. This honor led to it being invited to showcase such game-changing technology in an ecosystem where offering everyone some form of private or public transportation is quickly growing. Whether we’re ready to let a complete stranger fly us around from point A to point B, well, isn’t that the same thing as every other airline pilot out there? The difference here is, will companies have certified pilots operating these fleets or will this be a service open to freelance pilots who don’t necessarily take random drug screenings?

We’re getting ahead of ourselves here. The Hyundai Motor Group, made up mostly of Hyundai Motors and Kia Motors, is usually referred to as “The Group”, and has been working on many different kinds of technologies and transportation for a while now, and with the world population steadily growing, how are we going to avoid getting stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic in the following years? Are the airways really the next step? The Group seems to think so.

“Hyundai is developing core technologies that will establish it as the driving force behind Urban Air Mobility, offering a new and affordable transportation paradigm,” – Jaiwon Shin, Executive Vice President and Head of Urban Air Mobility Division of Hyundai Motor Group

The S-A1 is just one of three major mobility solutions The Group is heading into. Along with the SA-1 aircraft, The Group is also taking a large look at Purpose-Built Vehicles (PBVs), or vehicles designed for specific functions that can be performed autonomously, like shopping, or delivering food, or inter-connected hubs where someone can go from the bar to the gym without leaving their home. Sort of like an above ground subway system where each car is dedicated to another function, but these cars are PBVs able to house groups of people. Actually, this is the third solution The Group is working on, known as “The Hub”, meant to serve as the next public venue for mobility transfer and community activities. This last one is another invention spawned from the Coronavirus, but doesn’t necessarily need to be just used for keeping enclosed spaces and parties safe.

Lots of cool stuff is still going on, and we’re all hoping it continues to grow in 2021. Follow along with us on Miami Lakes Kia social media.

Kia Releases Adventurous Editions for 2021 Kia Sorento

The new 2021 Kia Sorento has a lot to love in the next generation for this SUV. With Kia Motors highlighting the Sorento and the many new additions, there is one newcomer we haven’t seen much of. We’re talking about X-Line trims. Way back in 2019, once the new Kia Soul debuted, Kia Motors launched an ad highlighting the GT-Line, X-Line, and the EX Designer Collection. Each breed will add an assortment of features to its respective model, but some are more obvious than others. A Kia GT trim gets a high-power GT engine, whereas the EX Designer Collection adds all kinds of premium and luxury creature comforts to bring the mid-trim level EX up a notch. The X-Line has been a bit of a sleeper, adding off-road equipment like fog lights, a rounded grille, unique wheels, and a roof rail for a more rugged look. Here’s hoping the new Kia Sorento X-Line has more to offer.
