Jeep Makes a Bold Statement With its 2020 Gladiator

Miami Lakes AutoMall Jeep Gladiator

Part SUV-inspired, part pickup, the 2020 Jeep® Gladiator is designed to catch the attention of those potential buyers that are searching for something more than an SUV or a traditional truck. With this latest introduction into the Jeep lineup, the brand is hoping to tap into America’s growing demand for larger vehicles and cater to those lifestyle buyers who need a smaller pickup truck – those buyers aiming to make use of the flatbed functionality. Every automaker knows that if they want to make a statement with a new model, then they’ve got to take risks, and that means designing vehicles with bold (and sometimes polarizing) looks. When the 2020 Gladiator debuted at the 2018 L.A. Auto Show, it was very clear that Jeep had been unapologetic with their design.

Leaked: Jeep Gladiator (Formerly Known as the Jeep Scrambler)

Miami Lakes Jeep Gladiator Leaked Spy Photo

It turns out that the highly-anticipated Jeep pickup truck will not be called a Jeep Scrambler after all. The Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) media department has been slowly letting details about its Wrangler-inspired truck trickle out ahead of the LA Auto Show, where the Jeep pickup is expected to make its debut if a leaked dealership presentation is to be trusted. According to an online Jeep forum, it’ll be a Jeep Gladiator making the rounds this late November (2018). Several forum users claim that official pictures and a specs sheet were on FCA’s official media site for a short time before being taken down. So what can we look forward to on this Wrangler-inspired midsize pickup? If the name is anything to go by there’ll be plenty of tough goodies in store. Read the rest of this entry >>

Apple CarPlay – The Ultimate Copilot

Miami Lakes Automall Apple CarPlay

Consumers often find that their car’s infotainment systems are quickly becoming outdated, something we can attribute to the fact that cars themselves receive updates to their design every few years. Apple has found the remedy to this by introducing Apple CarPlay – one of the must-have infotainment features for iPhone owners who are in the market for a new car. Available from iPhone 5 onward, CarPlay, a part of the iPhone’s iOS system, enables users to have access to the latest features including up-to-date maps, contacts, and apps. Consumers are free to update their phones when required without having to make any hardware changes to their vehicle.

How does it work?

Seamlessly integrated into your infotainment center, Apple CarPlay offers a way to safely use the phone’s convenient features while driving. In simple terms, Apple CarPlay takes the user interface of the iPhone and places a simplified version on the screen of your infotainment system. In tune with Apple’s style of simplicity, CarPlay is easy to use – all it takes is connecting the phone to one of the car’s USB ports via a Lightning cable and answering a prompt to enable the use of CarPlay. A growing number of vehicles already allow for a wireless connection via Bluetooth as well.

Once connected, the infotainment display will change into iPhone-style icons that can be controlled via the car’s touchscreen, knobs, and dials. The voice command buttons in many cars are subsequently replaced by Siri when operated, allowing for easy voice-command access to most functions. Not every app is displayed on the infotainment system as a safety precaution, and things like imessages are read out loud by Siri instead of being displayed to aid with the goal of reducing driver distractions.

Why Adventure Comes Easy In a Jeep

Miami Lakes Automall 2019 Jeep Cherokee Capability

The most adventurous and durable cars that will get you where you need to go and take you on a few adrenaline filled detours on the way are Jeep® vehicles. For those who love a good adventure, 4×4 off-roading is very fitting. No matter how brutal and intense the terrain may be, 4×4 off road driving is what these Jeeps are made for. Any Jeep with 4×4 off road capabilities will keep you entertained, whilst keeping your car in great condition and getting you through whatever terrain that may come your way. There are many components and subsystems that go into perfecting 4×4 systems for going off road and traversing various terrain, including but not limited to rock crawling, water fording, mudding, and perhaps even driving through a snowstorm.

Off-Road Differentials

To start off, the subsystem that is undoubtedly one of the most important for 4×4 Jeep systems is the off-road differentials, for more than one reason. This subsystem can include one of the three listed here: mechanical, electronic, or brake-assisted differentials. A quick explanation of what really makes this system so important is really because of the increase of traction of the tires that it leads to. The off-road differentials help with sending the highest amount of power to the wheels of the vehicle. Without this, your vehicle could be vulnerable to a decrease of control, thus leading to loss of control of the vehicle when going on an extravagant off-roading adventure.

Front Sway Bar Disconnect System

When your Jeep is all set up and ready to be taken on its next journey, through whatever terrain it may be, there are some subsystems that most people should be aware of. Some systems may not have to necessarily be engaged throughout the entire ride, for example the front sway bar disconnect system. The front sway bar disconnect system actually allows you to disengage the front sway bar, also known as the anti-roll bar. Sway bars are meant to stabilize the car when it leans to one direction, but when you’re driving at a lower speed the function needs to be different, especially when driving through rocky terrain. When a driver is going at a speed that is under 18 mph in low 4 mode and the vehicle has a front sway bar disconnect system, then the front wheels are able to drop and compress for better movement and versatility of the vehicle.

Skid Plates

Now this 4×4 component comes standard for most Jeep vehicles, and they are called skid plates. Skid plates are made of very strong steel making it as durable as possible, which is an extremely important feature for anyone seeking off-road adventures. The reason why skid plates are so important is because of their engineering technique that is made for the protection of the core of the Jeep, or its mechanical components. When coming across rugged terrain such as rocks and boulders, you’re going to be thankful for those skid plates

Rock Rails

Rock rails, also sometimes referred to as rock sliders or sill guards, are another component within the 4×4 Jeep systems. These tough and sturdy rails mounted onto the body of the car also help provide protection to the vehicle when going off-roading in any extreme terrain. They are mainly provided as additional safety for the protection of the door sills and the door bottoms.

Body-On-Frame Design

For Jeep Wrangler and Jeep Wrangler Unlimited vehicles, the body-on-frame design is built within the frame. Body-on-frame designs are extraordinarily tough and flexible, making them that much more suitable for off-roading in intense and harsh conditions. A brief explanation of what a body-on-frame design is consists of a seperate body that is mounted on a frame of a car. The reason why this frame has significance is mainly because of the way it is designed, that being strong and durable, make it capable of surviving harsh conditions, such as going through jagged rocks, mud, or snow.

Jeep Plans To Grow Globally

Jeep-Pickup-Miami-Lakes-Automall

The tech heavy Jeeps of the future are being thought of today. Is Jeep truly planning to take over the world? Well, maybe not. But they do have plans to expand their presence in places where they have a small presence or no presence at all. This is a massive goal and shows the company’s true ambition to increase sales, which are already expected to be at least 2 million Jeep units for 2018. Across all Jeep vehicles, there’s a sense of adventure and now the goal is to share that same feeling overseas as part of a broad worldwide market plan.

Mike Manley, head of both the Jeep and Ram brands for FCA, said Jeep is one of the strongest utility vehicle brands in the world. With plans for FCA to place a greater emphasis on Jeep, especially going forward, from a new mini-Jeep to a full-size, three-row model Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer revival; a lot is going on at Jeep. There’s also plans for a Deserthawk trim and even a Jeep pickup for the first time in decades!

When Can We Expect New Jeep Vehicles?

Manley added that two product launches per year with electrification options available across each nameplate by 2021 is the target. Also included are plans for adding ten plug-in electric and four battery electric vehicles to the fleet by 2022, and a unique monthly fee subscription service for vehicles that would launch in 2019 (details to be released). For now, we know that Jeep is looking into making vehicle models that would serve as rental cars for consumers while away on business trips, like Hertz. There’s still discussion as to how this will play out.

A large reason for the success of Jeep lately is due to a focus on the auto industry shift from sedans to SUVs and the growth of the utility market. Jeep went from 730,000 vehicles sold per year to what’s expected to surpass 1.9 million Jeep vehicles sold in just 2018 alone. Moreover, Jeep wants to expand into markets around the world with the brand looking to go global and goals to see consumers choose Jeep in one of every 12 utility vehicles sold. (Currently this number is one in 17 vehicles sold.)

New Jeep Grand Cherokee?

Originally announced as a project that would be finished in 2017, there’s been a delay for Jeep to produce the latest new Jeep Grand Cherokee. However, the plans to make one is still on the table. A three-row SUV Grand Wagoneer might end up taking place of the all-new Grand Cherokee for the time being. That’s because the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer are set to begin production when the 2019 Ram 1500 is finished being produced. (Yes, Ram is apart of FCA and they share the same production plant to produce their vehicles.) The earliest we will see the Wagoneer will be in 2019, but more than likely in 2020; reports say the extensive redesign and production of the Ram 1500 production is currently causing delays.

Further Delayed Production For Jeep Wagoneer?

Among Jeep enthusiasts, there’s no debating Jeep vehicles are built for adventure. After all, the adventures Jeep vehicles make possible are the most fun part about owning one. However, there isn’t a current three-row, luxury SUV made by Jeep. The long planned return to make a Jeep vehicle in this segment in the future was announced by FCA (Fiat Chrysler Automobiles) CEO Sergio Marchionne well over seven years ago. Most recently though, FCA’s recently released five-year plan includes production plans for the Jeep Wagoneer and the Jeep Grand Wagoneer.

Fans of the beloved, yet discontinued Wagoneer that last saw production in 1993 can rejoice! However, the only problem for the Jeep brand going forward with their planned new Wagoneer models is the fact production hasn’t started. Unfortunately, this is due to the fact that there’s no clear cut date for when production can begin.

Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer Awaiting Production

The problem stems from the continued production of the 2018 Ram 1500, still being produced and manufactured at the Warren Truck Assembly Plant. That’s where FCA has the Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer slated for production once the previous generation Ram 1500 wraps up at the end of 2018. This means the earliest we could see the new Jeep Wagoneer models will be in 2019, possibly stretching later than that if the 2018 Ram 1500 production runs into 2019.

While there’s a delay for when the public will finally get their hands on the Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer, there’s no debating the opportunity it has to be successful. “The Grand Wagoneer will still sell because it’s a Jeep,” an anonymous FCA dealer revealed to told Automotive News. “But it would have been nice to have them already.”

The Market For Luxury, Three-Row SUVs

While the future success of Jeep will be tied to how successful Jeep can be at expanding its global reach. Current sales for this year alone for the Jeep brand as a whole is expected to hit nearly 2 million vehicles sold. Bringing back the iconic Jeep Wagoneer vehicles (a luxury, three row seat SUV) is a smart move that’s long overdue.

Hoping to compete with Land Rover’s Range Rover in the luxury SUV segment, Jeep already has competition from other brands like Ford’s Expedition and the Lincoln Navigator. There’s a definite market for creating a three-row seat, luxurious vehicle, the question is how successful can the Jeep brand be due to how long they’ve taken to join these other brands.

“I think our window of opportunity is closing,” a longtime FCA dealer told the industry publication, speaking on condition of anonymity. “We could have killed with [the Grand Wagoneer] if it had been available when they first told us about it, but it’s a much tougher sell with interest rates and gas prices going up.”

Jeep Expands Fuel Efficiency Goals

Consumer memories may be one reason customers might not want to purchase the Jeep Grand Wagoneer. The previous Jeep Grand Wagoneer had an MPG of only 10 MPG in the city and 12 highway. This won’t be the case with the next rendition of the Jeep Grand Wagoneer. FCA’s five year plan includes 10 plug-in hybrid versions and four full-electric models by 2022. Surely, Jeep knows to max out the fuel efficiency, even with the planned Jeep Wagoneer and Jeep Grand Wagoneer.

If Jeep plans to take up to 20 percent of the global utility market, as FCA CEO Marchionne hopes, making vehicles that help customers gain a sense of adventure won’t be enough. They’ll have to provide modest gas mileage and stack up against the current competition that is only getting better each day. Time will tell, but you don’t have to wait at all to find quality Jeep vehicles.

New 2019 Jeep Cherokee Highlights and Changes

2019-Jeep-MLAM

Among the many SUVs available on the market, few have gathered a following as strong as Jeep’s Cherokee brand. A bold decision to change the iconic headlamps backfired and this new image shows Jeep has refreshed the 2019 Jeep Cherokee. Now a distinctly different design has transformed various areas both inside and out of this beloved vehicle.

New Engine + Upgrades

With a brand new engine choice, the 270 horsepower, 2.0-litre turbo four engine, owners will have another option with an engine that boasts strong performance for a vehicle that maintains its unique power, stylish comfort and off road capabilities. This engine pairs with the TorqueFlite nine-speed automatic transmission, which has revamped software to allow for more refined shifting while driving.

The 2019 Jeep Cherokee maintains independent suspension with three different 4×4 systems available for the newest Cherokee version. A lighter vehicle overall, Jeep finds ways to continue shaving off weight, while making the vehicle just as powerful. While the knowledge of the towing capacity of the 2.0-Turbo engine is unknown, the V6 engine allows up to 4,500 pounds of towing capacity.

Further Design Upgrades

Starting with the front of the vehicle, the headlights have changed immensely, returning back to their original elongated and wider look and going away from the narrow, smaller headlamp that was on the last Cherokee model design.

The new 2019 Jeep Cherokee also receives design changes to the rear of the vehicle by moving the license plate from the bumper to the liftgate, adding updated taillights. The taillights have stayed in the same spot, but now have a small underline light under them. Other changes include updating the exhausts tips while refreshing the rest of the front of the vehicle a further upright hood that creates a smooth look from front to back of the entire 2019 Jeep Cherokee.

Aside from changes made to the headlights and the small changes to the rear of the vehicle, the new 2019 Cherokee design is fairly similar to the last Cherokee design, which first came out in 2013. This new generation has come a long way with an even sleeker, modern design that should continue to attract customers.

Modern Tech Interior

The interior also has been revamped. Less plastic is noticeable inside the cabin space. Not much more space was added the interior, but a better infotainment system is a welcomed upgrade. The new available 7-or 8.4-inch touchscreen that uses the latest UConnect system responds faster to users, which offers a much better user experience. Finally adding Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionalities, 2019 Jeep Cherokee owners will enjoy more standard modern amenities.

Miami Lakes Jeep Wrangler

Different Off-Roading Equipment on the Jeep Wrangler Lineup

Miami Lakes Jeep Wrangler

What’s the most iconic adventurous looking vehicle? Without hesitation most of us will say a Jeep Wrangler. Its metal bars, removable tops and doors, seven-slot grille, round headlights and spare tire on the back of the vehicle, make the Jeep Wrangler unlike any other vehicle and its looked that way for decades.

Not only is the Wrangler adventurous looking, but it is actually built for adventure. Unlike the $122,00 wannabe-Wrangler, the Mercedes G Wagon, the Wrangler has the durability, 4×4 systems and water fording capabilities to truly explore off the beaten path. However, not every Jeep Wrangler is made equally. To offer consumers variety and options, some Wranglers have different equipment than others. Here are some highlights.

Jeep Expanding Diesel Engine on Future Jeep Lineup

eco-diesel-jeep-miami-lakes-jeep

To keep up with the EPA greenhouse gas emissions standards that automakers are required to meet before 2025, Jeep is expanding their diesel engine options to more vehicles in the lineup.

Jeep 3.0L EcoDiesel Engine

Though not confirmed, the Wrangler’s diesel engine is expected to be the same 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 that is available on the Grand Cherokee lineup and that is on the Ram 1500 HFE, which is another FCA vehicle. This engine produces 240 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque and it reduces less CO2 emissions and is more fuel efficient than the 3.6L Pentastar V6 engine that is currently used on the Wrangler.

This engine boosts the Grand Cherokee’s fuel economy to 22 mpg in the city, 30 mpg on the highway and 22 combined mpg, which is an average of 4.5 mpg more than the 3.6-liter V6 engine. It also reduces the vehicle’s annual petroleum consumption by .4 barrels of petroleum per year. Read the rest of this entry >>
