Friday, June 14th, 2019

The Jeep Cherokee hadn’t had any major platform changes since its revamped 2014 model, but the 2019 model year marks the first significant update. With the revision comes a new-and-improved look, additional powertrain options, added features, and even more cargo space to make the 2019 Jeep Cherokee a viable competitor in the compact SUV market. Let’s rank the added features that make the 2019 Jeep Cherokee the go-to choice when shopping for compact SUVs, here are five things we love: (more…)

Jeep Cherokee Gets a Few Worthy Updates for 2019

Thursday, May 23rd, 2019

Touted as one of the more capable SUVs in its segment, the Jeep Cherokee features impressive towing and off-roading capabilities. Off-road enthusiasts agree that when the 2019 Jeep Cherokee is properly equipped it certainly delivers superior off-road prowess when compared to counterparts in the same segment. It’s important to note that the Cherokee received a bit of criticism these past few years due to its controversial  (and nearly slanted) front end styling and its questionable nine-speed automatic transmission according to buyers. Jeep chose to address these issues – and a few others that weren’t as immediate – for the 2019 model year. The 2019 Jeep Cherokee now features a redesigned front end that gives it a more authentic and premium Jeep look like the Grand Cherokee. (more…)

2019 Jeep Compass vs. 2019 Jeep Cherokee

Tuesday, March 5th, 2019

Those in the market for a small Jeep crossover should look no further than either the Jeep Compass or the Jeep Cherokee. The fact that both are similarly priced, similarly sized, and offered with a similar range of engines and optional extras might make it hard for some prospective buyers to choose, but we’ve gone ahead and broken down each crossover to help people determine which best suits their lifestyle. Let’s see how these two fare when compared head to head. (more…)

Jeep Plans To Grow Globally

The tech heavy Jeeps of the future are being thought of today. Is Jeep truly planning to take over the world? Well, maybe not. But they do have plans to expand their presence in places where they have a small presence or no presence at all. This is a massive goal and shows the company’s true ambition to increase sales, which are already expected to be at least 2 million Jeep units for 2018. Across all Jeep vehicles, there’s a sense of adventure and now the goal is to share that same feeling overseas as part of a broad worldwide market plan.

Mike Manley, head of both the Jeep and Ram brands for FCA, said Jeep is one of the strongest utility vehicle brands in the world. With plans for FCA to place a greater emphasis on Jeep, especially going forward, from a new mini-Jeep to a full-size, three-row model Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer revival; a lot is going on at Jeep. There’s also plans for a Deserthawk trim and even a Jeep pickup for the first time in decades!

When Can We Expect New Jeep Vehicles?

Manley added that two product launches per year with electrification options available across each nameplate by 2021 is the target. Also included are plans for adding ten plug-in electric and four battery electric vehicles to the fleet by 2022, and a unique monthly fee subscription service for vehicles that would launch in 2019 (details to be released). For now, we know that Jeep is looking into making vehicle models that would serve as rental cars for consumers while away on business trips, like Hertz. There’s still discussion as to how this will play out.

A large reason for the success of Jeep lately is due to a focus on the auto industry shift from sedans to SUVs and the growth of the utility market. Jeep went from 730,000 vehicles sold per year to what’s expected to surpass 1.9 million Jeep vehicles sold in just 2018 alone. Moreover, Jeep wants to expand into markets around the world with the brand looking to go global and goals to see consumers choose Jeep in one of every 12 utility vehicles sold. (Currently this number is one in 17 vehicles sold.)

New Jeep Grand Cherokee?

Originally announced as a project that would be finished in 2017, there’s been a delay for Jeep to produce the latest new Jeep Grand Cherokee. However, the plans to make one is still on the table. A three-row SUV Grand Wagoneer might end up taking place of the all-new Grand Cherokee for the time being. That’s because the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer are set to begin production when the 2019 Ram 1500 is finished being produced. (Yes, Ram is apart of FCA and they share the same production plant to produce their vehicles.) The earliest we will see the Wagoneer will be in 2019, but more than likely in 2020; reports say the extensive redesign and production of the Ram 1500 production is currently causing delays.

Trims

The all-new 2019 Jeep Cherokee lineup consists of six different trims, the Latitude, Latitude Plus, Limited, Overland, Trailhawk and the Trailhawk Elite, which is the newest trim to join the lineup. The Cherokee Trailhawk and Trailhawk Elite are only available with four-wheel-drive, but the other four Cherokee models are available with front-wheel-drive or four-wheel-drive.

Engines

There are three engine options on the Cherokee lineup. The standard engine on most of the Cherokee trims is the 2.4-liter I-4 MultiAir engine, which produces 180 horsepower and 170 lb-ft of torque. The other two engine options are the 3.2-liter V6 engine and the all-new 2.0-liter four cylinder engine.

The 3.2L engine produces 271 horsepower 239 lb-ft of torque and it comes standard on the Cherokee Limited, Cherokee Trailhawk and Cherokee Trailhawk Elite, but it is an available option on other Cherokee models. The 3.2L gives the Jeep Cherokee a best-in-class maximum towing capacity of 4,500 pounds.

The newest engine on the lineup is the 2.0-liter turbocharged I4 engine and it is powerful and a little more “green” than the other engines. The 2.0L engine produces 270 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque and it features engine stop-start technology, which improves fuel economy and reduces the amount of greenhouse gases emitted. The 2.0L engine is an available upgrade on all trims, except the Cherokee Latitude.

Ground Clearance

Now that Jeep has added the specs of the entire Jeep Cherokee lineup to their website, we know the departure angle, approach angle and breakover angle of all Cherokee trims. The Cherokee Trailhawk and Cherokee Trailhawk Elite have a ground clearance of 8.7 inches, a 29.9-degree approach angle, a 22.9-degree breakover angle and a 32.2-degree departure angle. The other Cherokee trims have an 18.9-degree approach angle, a 19.5-degree breakover angle and a 25-degree departure angle.

Infotainment System

The tech inside the Jeep Cherokee has been upgraded and now the base Cherokee trims, the Cherokee Latitude and Cherokee Latitude Plus, come standard with a 7-inch touchscreen and Uconnect 4. The other Cherokee trims are equipped with an 8.4-inch touchscreen and Uconnect 4, but buyers can upgrade to Uconnect 4C with navigation if they want. Uconnect 4 is compatible with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and it includes a backup rearview camera, built-in radio options and there is the option of hands free calls or texts.
