Consumers often find that their car’s infotainment systems are quickly becoming outdated, something we can attribute to the fact that cars themselves receive updates to their design every few years. Apple has found the remedy to this by introducing Apple CarPlay – one of the must-have infotainment features for iPhone owners who are in the market for a new car. Available from iPhone 5 onward, CarPlay, a part of the iPhone’s iOS system, enables users to have access to the latest features including up-to-date maps, contacts, and apps. Consumers are free to update their phones when required without having to make any hardware changes to their vehicle.
Seamlessly integrated into your infotainment center, Apple CarPlay offers a way to safely use the phone’s convenient features while driving. In simple terms, Apple CarPlay takes the user interface of the iPhone and places a simplified version on the screen of your infotainment system. In tune with Apple’s style of simplicity, CarPlay is easy to use – all it takes is connecting the phone to one of the car’s USB ports via a Lightning cable and answering a prompt to enable the use of CarPlay. A growing number of vehicles already allow for a wireless connection via Bluetooth as well.
Once connected, the infotainment display will change into iPhone-style icons that can be controlled via the car’s touchscreen, knobs, and dials. The voice command buttons in many cars are subsequently replaced by Siri when operated, allowing for easy voice-command access to most functions. Not every app is displayed on the infotainment system as a safety precaution, and things like imessages are read out loud by Siri instead of being displayed to aid with the goal of reducing driver distractions.
FCA and Apple have partnered up to offer an excellent new incentive. Buyers of a new Jeep, Ram, Chrysler or Dodge vehicle that has Apple CarPlay technology will receive a yearlong subscription to Apple Music for free.
The new partnership includes access to more than 42,000,000 songs for free and also includes some new playlists specifically created for drivers of various FCA models.

A few FCA models are available with rear seat dual-screen entertainment systems, which allow backseat passengers to watch movies, TV or play games. FCA vehicles also feature Uconnect systems, which is FCA’s brand of infotainment system. Earlier this month, the 2017 Los Angeles Auto Show took place, and that’s when the 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL officially debuted. Sure, there have been spy photos and leaked information, but all of that was just a piece of the pie compared to everything we learned at the show. Can’t wait to learn all about it? Otherwise, here’s some of the highlights as well as the differences one can expect between the next-generation all-new 2018 Wrangler JL and the 2018 Wrangler JK.
The Wrangler JK is only available with one engine (3.6L Pentastar V6 engine), whether it is the Wrangler or Wrangler Unlimited. That same engine returns to the Wrangler JL model, but it’s been tweaked a little bit. The new tweaked engine is able to generate up to 285 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque, and it can be paired to the standard six-speed manual transmission or the new available eight-speed automatic transmission. The engine also comes standard with electric start-stop (ESS), a technology to conserve fuel while the engine idles. With this tech, consumers can expect their Jeep Wrangler JL to have an average fuel economy of 17 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway if paired to the manual transmission; otherwise it’s 18 mpg in the city with the automatic transmission.
