Red Jeep SUV Mountain top

The 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee Crushes the 2023 Toyota 4Runner

Red Jeep SUV Mountain top

The 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee and 2023 Toyota 4Runner were evaluated based on performance, gas mileage, towing, off-road abilities, safety, passenger/cargo space, and warranty coverage. Before commencing the comparison, it was imminent that there was one clear winner, so here’s a rundown of why enthusiasts deserve nothing but the best, the Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Performance

The 2023 Toyota 4Runner receives just one engine, the uninspiring 4.0-liter V6 engine that generates 270 horsepower. Whereas the 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee offers a variety of engines that are “Made for What You’re Made of,” all three are powerful. The first Grand Cherokee engine is a 3.6-liter V6 that yields 293 horsepower, the 5.7-liter Hemi V8 that outputs 357 horsepower, and the plug-in hybrid that forges 375 horsepower.

Gas Mileage

Regarding efficiency, the Jeep Grand Cherokee steals the show again, with gas mileage estimated at 22 mpg combined. Additionally, the Grand Cherokee 4xe holds a fuel economy of 56 mpge in electric mode and 23 combined mpg in hybrid mode. However, the Toyota 4Runner can drive enthusiasts to the corner store, but it can not go back home with a measly 17 combined mpg.

Towing

The Jeep Grand Cherokee goes for the clean sweep in another category, towing capacity. The Grand Cherokee pulls up to 7,200 lbs, while the Toyota 4Runner struggles to haul beyond 5,000 lbs.

Off-Road Capabilities

Here’s where the 2023 Toyota 4Runner finally keeps up with the Grand Cherokee, with exceptional off-road capabilities. The Jeep Grand Cherokee and Toyota 4Runner provide a sophisticated four-wheel drive system and off-road enhancing features. Both SUV’s off-road enriched features include all-terrain tires, an off-road-tuned suspension, and off-road drive modes. Furthermore, the best trims to savor the great outdoors in the Grand Cherokee are the SRT, Trailhawk, and Trackhawk.

Safety

The Jeep Grand Cherokee and Toyota 4Runner draw another tie in safety. Both SUV’s safety and driving assist features include blind-spot monitor, adaptive cruise control, brake assist, a backup camera, and electronic stability control.

Passenger/Cargo Space

The 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee is larger than the 2023 Toyota 4Runner, equating to more passenger space. The Grand Cherokee L holds a total passenger volume of 152 cu-ft for the three-row and 144.6 cu-ft for the two-row model. Then there’s the Toyota 4Runner, which has a cramped passenger capacity of 128.0 cu-ft for the three-model and the restriction of 93.7 cu-ft for the two-row model.

To prove our unbias, the Toyota 4Runner beat the Jeep Grand Cherokee in storage capacity. The Toyota 4Runner has a maximum cargo capacity of 89.7 cu-ft, to the Grand Cherokee’s 84.6 ct-ft.

Warranty Coverage

The Jeep Grand Cherokee and Toyota 4Runner offer sensational warranty support with 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty and a 5-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty. However, although both SUVs provide free maintenance service, the Toyota 4Runner is not as generous as the Grand Cherokee. For example, the Jeep Grand Cherokee delivers three years or 36,000 miles of coverage while Toyota feeds 4Runner enthusiasts to the wolves with two years or 25,000 miles.

The 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee or the Toyota 4Runner

Although it is no surprise, the 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee holds significant advantages over the 2023 Toyota 4Runner. The Grand Cherokee contains many benefits such as performance, gas mileage, towing, passenger capacity, and an exceptional maintenance plan. If enthusiasts select the Toyota 4Runner, then cheer for the decent cargo space.

Two Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe SUV's off road

Inside the 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4Xe

Two Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe SUV's off road

As Jeep makes monumental strides toward Zero Emissions to Freedom, the 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe embodies the automaker’s transcendence perfectly. The 2023 model year is the most technologically advanced 4×4-capable Grand Cherokee from the legendary automaker to date. Additionally, the all-new Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe delivers 25 miles of all-electric range and 56 miles per gallon equivalent (MPGe).

For the 2023 model year, Jeep builds on a historic SUV with the all-new 4xe architecture, plug-in hybrid powertrain, new exterior design, refined interior, and first-to-market technologies. Not only does the Grand Cherokee 4xe change the future of the full-size segment, but the SUV joins the likes of the Grand Cherokee and three-row Grand Cherokee L on the road to expansion for the Grand Cherokee lineup.

It’s as if Jeep could read the minds of earth preservers worldwide, as the Grand Cherokee 4xe provides the same experience as the Grand Cherokee with fewer emissions. Additionally, the Grand Cherokee 4xe is an icon that other automakers wish they could duplicate. The Grand Cherokee delivers legendary 4×4 capability, the full-size segments leading capacity, versatility, plus advanced safety features. Furthermore, the Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe E features Select modes: Hybrid, Electric, and eSave. So no matter what the journey entails, 4xe enthusiasts are limitless when customizing the hybrid powertrain best suited for the road ahead.

Here’s a look at our favorite features from the all-new 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe.

Highlights:

New for the 2023 model, the Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe offers the Trailhawk trim for 25 miles of all-electric Zero Emission Freedom and 56 MPGe plus the Grand Cherokee Trailhawk’s 4×4 capability. The Grand Cherokee Trailhawk 4xe easily conquers the Rubicon Trail through the all-electric power of Electric Mode. The Trailhawk trim features:

  • Quadra-Drive II 4×4 system with two-speed transfer case
  • Rear electronic limited-slip differential (eLSD)
  • Selec-Terrain traction management system
  • Selec-Speed Control
  • 10.9 inches of ground clearance
  • 24 inches of water-fording capability
  • 47.4:1 crawl ratio
  • 25 miles of all-electric range and 56 MPGe
  • Blue tow hooks
  • Blue-accented 18-inch wheels with all-terrain tires
  • Glare-proof black-and-blue matte “Trailhawk” hood decal

Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe drivers can customize their trip to the powertrain that works best for the journey. So it doesn’t matter what the road ahead entails; whether it’s commuting, off-roading, or long-distance, the Grand Cherokee 4xe will prevail.

  • Hybrid: Gathers torque from the electric motor and gas engine. The Grand Cherokee 4xe’s powertrain optimizes battery and engine power to render the ultimate union of fuel efficiency and performance.
  • Electric: Functions on zero-emission electric power only until the battery reaches the minimum charge or the drivers require more torque, which then engages the engine.
  • eSave: The engine is the number one priority, so the Jeep SUV saves the battery charge for later use. Furthermore, the driver can alternate between Battery Save and Battery Charge.

Over 110 advanced safety and security features are inside the Grand Cherokee 4xe. Standard safety features include:

  • Full-Speed Collision Warning with Active Braking and Pedestrian/Cyclist Detection
  • Rear Cross Path detection

Blue Jeep Cherokee Off Road Outside Mountains

Is the Next-Gen Jeep Cherokee Underway?

Blue Jeep Cherokee Off Road Outside Mountains

The first Jeep Cherokee to ever cross the assembly line was a re-imagined and rebadged two-door remix to the Jeep Wagoneer. Fast forward to the second generation, and the Cherokee transition to a fresh platform. By 1984, the Cherokee went from body-on-frame to gliding on a unibody construction. The Cherokee’s boxy exterior would mark the SUV’s place in history as one of the first modern SUVs with four doors. Moreover, the Cherokee would go on to establish the SUV segment and assist in constructing the automaker’s empire.

However, in 2001 Jeep upset a lot of Cherokee lovers by renaming the SUV to Liberty for North America. The Liberty name would continue to survive the fourth-generation Cherokee, redesigned in 2008.

By November 2013, Lady Liberty sang as long as she could, and Jeep returned the Cherokee nameplate to the North American market. With a complete refresh, new powertrains, extra features, and additional trims, the Jeep Cherokee reemerged, but so did the debate. During the time of the Cherokee’s reestablishment, controversy ensued, and sports and business corporations had to retire Native American names. So here we are nearly ten years later; where does the Jeep Cherokee stand?

For starters, America’s favorite automaker is a mastermind brand that continues to grow and expand. For instance, the Jeep Grand Cherokee L now features three rows, and the accolades soon followed with the release. The full-size flagship, the Jeep Wagoneer, and the premium Grand Wagoneer also reprise their iconic roles. Moreover, Jeep also has a small electric crossover due for a debut in 2023.

However, there’s little to share about the OG of Jeep’s empire. The Jeep Cherokee that once read welcomes consumers to the sport-utility vehicle segment now goes overlooked by enthusiasts. Now the Cherokee’s relationship with fans is no fault to fans, especially since the Jeep SUV hasn’t attained a refresh since the 2014 model year. Since the Cherokee hasn’t retained a refresh, the SUV is one of the oldest compacts on the market. Even the 2022 Jeep Compass welcomes a mid-cycle refresh resembling a miniature Wagoneer.

So what’s Jeep’s plan for the Cherokee? Will the automaker ‘Old Yeller’ be the loyal SUV?

The Cherokee Plan

Global President of Jeep Brand Christian Meunier and head of Jeep Brand of North America Jim Morrison spoke about the future of the Jeep Cherokee. Both execs insist that the Cherokee still holds a purpose in the Jeep lineup. Morrison stated the plans for the next-generation Cherokee will be “bigger and better than ever.”

Morrison mentioned that the automaker would not meet expectations for the sixth-generation Cherokee anytime soon. However, when the Jeep Cherokee is ready for refinement, it will receive a lot of electrification. The automaker’s electrification plan will introduce the smaller Jeep in the first half of 2023; from there, an off-road SUV, and a family SUV will come to fruition in 2024.

Gray Jeep Compass SUV Off Road Downhill

The 2022 Jeep Compass Earns the Top Safety Pick

Gray Jeep Compass SUV Off Road Downhill

The new 2022 Jeep Compass earned the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s (IIHS) Top Safety Pick for 2022. The new Compass rating stems from the SUV’s LED projector or LED reflector headlamps that pair perfectly with high-beam assist.

“The new 2022 Jeep Compass demonstrates our steadfast commitment to customer satisfaction. The Compass blends exceptional active and passive safety features with legendary Jeep 4×4 capability. The result is outstanding value for our customers and their families.”

 – Jim Morrison, Vice President of Jeep Brand North America

The Jeep Compass is well-deserving of the Top Safety Pick because of its performance in six of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s crashworthiness tests. Of the six crashworthiness tests, three tests included frontal crashes. The other three trials evaluated the Jeep SUV based on side-impact, rear impact, and rollover. So, it is no surprise that America’s favorite automaker delivered an SUV that earned the highest score possible in each category.

In addition to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s test evaluation, the Comapss’s emergency braking technology earned some notable accolades. For example, the Jeep SUV’s Full-Speed Forward Collision Warning with Active Braking earned the highest score possible with a “superior” rating. Furthermore, the Pedestrian/Cyclist Automatic Emergency Braking system earned an “advanced” rating.

The Full-Speed Forward Collision Warning with Active Braking and Pedestrian/Cyclist Automatic Emergency Braking premiers standard on the 2022 Jeep Compass. Both features assure the Jeep SUV detects potential collisions, and the Jeep Compass can automatically apply the brakes in extreme situations.

Forward Collision Warning and Automatic Emergency Braking are merely two exceptional features of the Jeep Compass’s 75 available safety and security features. Other enticing features include Active Lane Management and Rear Cross Path Detection.

Aside from the challenges of the automotive industry, the 2022 Jeep Compass’s sales increased to 22% in the first quarter of 2022, an enormous increase from the first three months of 2021. So don’t wait until the last minute to acquire the Insurance Institute for Highway and Safety’s Top Safety Pick

New Jeep Marketing Campaign Speaks to Every Car Enthusiast

Stellantis

“The ‘Made for What You’re Made Of’ campaign is rooted in the ‘go anywhere, do anything’ spirit of the Jeep brand and its vehicle owners, fans and followers. As the Grand Cherokee has evolved over the years, so has our owners’ ability to seek out more fulfilling experiences, and the Jeep brand’s goal is to give them a vehicle that allows them to explore the world they live in and to enjoy life to its fullest.”

 – Stellantis North America, Senior Vice President, Marissa Hunter

These sentiments from Senior Vice President of Stellantis North America, Marissa Hunter, come off the heels of Jeep’s new marketing campaign. The new campaign is “Made for What You’re Made of,” and the 30-second clip features the Grand Cherokee, Grand Cherokee L, and Grand Cherokee 4Xe. To view “Made for What You’re Made of,” click here or access the clip through Jeep’s social media channels which include Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube. The marketing campaign is also available on television and seen throughout the NCAA’s March Madness.

“With the recent launch of the new Grand Cherokee and Grand Cherokee L, and the Grand Cherokee 4xe this spring, consumers will have more options than ever before when deciding which of these 4x4s best fits their outdoor pursuits. The Grand Cherokee was built to help provide our owners with one-of-a-kind experiences by taking them to faraway places to seek out their next adventure. There is no other automotive brand that enables that sense of freedom and adventure and that elicits such fierce loyalty and camaraderie among its owners and enthusiasts like Jeep does.”

– Jeep Brand North America, Senior Vice President, Jim Morrison

Jeep’s thirty-second clip features a Paralympian runner, base jumper, and ice diver. Filming for “Made for What You’re Made of” took place in Colorado and Utah. The new Jeep campaign speaks to the heart of every nature enthusiast, athlete, adrenaline feen, and many more. “Made for What You’re Made of” starts with a determined narrator projecting, “To find out what one is made of, ditch the personality tests and social media quizzes and head into the big, wide, beautiful world.” The new marketing campaign propels 4×4 enthusiasts beyond social metrics and into a fascinating world that’s depleting and worth so much more than any camera can capture. Jeep proves the Grand Cherokee, Grand Cherokee L, and Grand Cherokee 4Xe are all vehicles designed for everyone, but which one appeals to your purpose?

The Brazil Preview Heard Around the World for the 2022 Jeep Renegade

Jeep

Rare sightings, but the internet remains undefeated. Spies captured the 2022 Jeep Renegade prototype back in September (2021). Testing for the Renegade commenced some time last year, and speculation gathered that the vehicle would reach the US sometime this year (2022). Yet, in true undefeated behavior, the internet leaked a video of the 2022 Renegade. The leak forced Jeep Brazil to “officially” reveal the subcompact SUV through a series of photos.

For now, everything known about the Renegade is limited to its exterior and brief glimpses of the cabin. First, the subcompact Jeep receives a facelift, giving the SUV a narrower grille than its predecessor. In addition, turn signals and the daytime running lights (DRLs) reveal an integration into the headlights. The new integration left room for Jeep to alter the fascia on the lower section. Additionally, the fog lights receive a new rectangular shape placed higher than the previous model.

At the back of the Renegade is the LED taillight, but this time around there’s an alteration in the taillight graphics. The bumper also received a redesign featuring an enlarged faux skid plate and slimmer lights at the corner.

Jeep

The Renegade’s cabin also revealed a humble redesign. Although the dashboard layout for the outgoing trim remains consistent, the SUV features an updated steering wheel from its older brother, the Jeep Compass. In addition to the new steering wheel, the Renegade gains a fully digital 7-inch instrument panel and an 8.4-inch infotainment screen.

There’s little information about what’s underneath the hood other than the fact that Brazil will eliminate the diesel-powered option for the 2022 model. Additionally, the 1.3-liter Turboflex T270 engine will premiere in the crossover. The Turboflex engine generates 185 horsepower with ethanol. The Renegade’s standard powertrain is front-wheel-drive paired with a six-speed manual gearbox.

The 2022 Jeep Renegade will premiere in the South American market by January or February of this year (2022). The US debut will happen sometime this year, but no one knows the official date for now.

Three More Screens for the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L

The award-winning Jeep Grand Cherokee L introduced itself to enthusiasts sometime in 2021. The Cherokee L bears a long-wheelbase, three-row seating, and an impeccable interior design. With an exquisite interior and advanced technology, the Jeep Grand Cherokee L harbors immense capability both on and off-road.

Jeep found it necessary to optimize the 2022 Grand Cherokee L even as a noteworthy vehicle. As a result, the 2022 model year brings forth even more technological treats, appearance packages, and various paint options for the mid-size SUV.

The most drastic augmentation comes from within. The exterior welcomes the optional 10.3-inch front passenger screen. The 10.3-inch screens are in the Cherokee L’s older cousin, the flagship Wagoneer. The screen illuminates navigation, camera views, and any kind of cinematic entertainment. Additionally, the screens will appear standard on the Summit Reserve, the Grand Cherokee L’s premium trim. Furthermore, the screen is optional for the Limited and Overland variations.

Jeep would never take care of the front seat passengers and forget about the rear passengers. So, as a result, the Grand Cherokee L also features new screens for the crew in the back. There’s a pair of 10.1-inch high-definition screens mounted to the back of the front seats. The 10.1-inch screens are available for the Limited, Overland, and Summit variations.

The new screens feature the built-in Amazon Fire TV. In addition, the Fire TV can link to any in-vehicle Wi-Fi hotspot or any hotspot via mobile device. Each display comes standard with nine gigabytes of storage to download PrimeVideo content, an HDMI port, and two voice remotes with Alexa’s inside. Enjoy content with the family through mirroring or enjoy alone time with an individual screen; either way, the Cherokee L’s more than capable.

The 2022 Grand Cherokee L expands the family with Limited Black and Summit High Altitude packages. In addition, the new packages feature gloss-black exterior accents, roof rails, and a customized grille. The Limited Black cruises on 20-inch gloss black aluminum wheels while the Summit attains 21-inch wheels.

There are also three new color options: Ember, Midnight Sky, and Hydro Blue. All three exterior colors are available for the Overland, Summit, and Summer Reserve models. However, only two colors are accessible to the Limited variation, the Ember and Midnight Sky.

Jeep Gladiator 4Xe Hits a Bump in the Reveal Road

It’s not every day a heavy-hitting automaker admits that the competition led them back to the drawing board. But Jeep is brave enough to hit the reset button, even amidst a successful refresh.

Of course, the Jeep Wrangler has always served at the forefront of Jeep’s affection. Since the Wrangler is the apple of the automaker’s eye, its recent refresh welcomed new trim packages and beefy off-road options like the factory’s 37-inch tires. However, these are mere examples of how Jeep knocks it out of the park with fresh, innovative redesigns.

Somehow the attention the Jeep Wrangler renders does not parallel to its first cousin once removed, the Jeep Gladiator pickup truck. According to Mopar Insiders, the transfer of the  Wrangler’s prominent electrified 4Xe powertrain proved more difficult than Jeep anticipated.

Mopar Insider is a reliable source for automotive information, and if its reports are accurate, then the Jeep Gladiator 4Xe won’t be seen or heard until 2024. Unfortunately, the Gladiator 4Xe would surface one model year after the mid-cycle refresh of the esteemed Wrangler.

There are no expectations for wholesale alterations to the Wrangler. So It’s safe to assume that the Wrangler will endure fewer technological and feature upgrades necessary to contend against the Ford Bronco.

When properly equipped, the Ford Bronco Badlands trim with Sasquatch mode features Trail Turn Assist and an electronic disconnecting sway bar which is enough to leave any automaker shaking in its boots. But Jeep wants to ensure the Wrangler competes for the marathon and not just the race. So other Jeep projects fall to the waist, as the Wrangler takes precedence.

Several modes in the Jeep lineup engage electrons in the powertrain, such as the Wrangler and Grand Cherokee. Moreover, Jeep unmasked an objective of a fully electrified lineup by 2025, and with the Gladiator 4Xe extended a year, Jeep can still obtain that objective.

Although unfortunate, the Gladiator 4Xe has hit the pause button on Jeep’s DVR. So it’s not illogical for the Wrangler to hit center stage. After all, the Wrangler is Jeep’s most distinctive model.

At the time of writing, the 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4Xe consists of a 2.0-L turbocharged four with two electric motors paired with an eight-speed automatic. The tandem generates 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque, plus 18 miles of all-electric range. So let’s anticipate modest enhancements for 2023.

Strong Demand Leads to 2022 Jeep Wrangler Tuscadero Exterior Extension

“We expected Tuscadero to be popular and the customer response has been overwhelmingly strong. It’s so popular, we’re extending production into 2022 model-year production to meet strong customer demand. Customers can place an order through December of this year.”

-Jeep Brand North America Vice President Jim Morrison

Since its debut in August of 2021, the “for a limited time only” Tuscadero exterior paint became a fan favorite. The Tuscadero, exclusive to the Jeep Wrangler, embodies a reddish-pink hue that 30,000 fans fell in awe of. The special-edition Tuscadero exterior is also Jeep’s most desired color of 2021.

A look at the daring Tuscadero and its extensively zealous magenta are enough to captivate any Wrangler enthusiasts to acquire the candy-coated brilliance. But the Tuscadero isn’t the only vivid color in the special run of exterior paints. Colors such as the Gecko, Chief, and Nacho also added customization and flair to the Jeep Wrangler with a color palette directly from the factory.

The Tuscadero is available to all 2021 and 2022 Wrangler models, including the Sport, Rubicon, 4Xe, and 392. In addition, the Wrangler’s chromatic magenta exterior paint option is acquirable from now until the end of December 2021. The US manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) starts at $395.

Aside from the extension of the nostalgic Pinky Tuscadero, the 2022 Wrangler lineup gains the Willys model with the Xtreme Recon package. The thrill-seeking trim features 35-inch BF Goodrich KO2 all-terrain tires. The Willy’s Xtreme model traverses atop 17-inch wheels, a 1.5-inch suspension lift, upgraded brakes, and a plethora of blacked-out trims and badges. The standard Willys Xtreme Recon Model details a 3.6-liter V6 engine for the four-door Unlimited body Style.

The 35-inch tires and 1.5-inch suspension lift were exclusive to the top-spec Rubicon and Rubicon 392 variations. But Jeep recognized the limitation and adapted with the moderately priced Jeep Wrangler Willys, eager to go toe-to-toe against the Ford Bronco and its Sasquatch package.
