Diesel-Powered Wrangler is Coming in 2019

It’s a great day to be an off-road enthusiast for those that enjoy off-roading in a Jeep! A Jeep Wrangler powered by a diesel-fueled engine is allegedly in the works. According to many prominent JL Wrangler forums, new order codes are popping up on dealership ordering systems as we near the new model year, and one of the codes (code 26) was confirmed to be the code for a 3.0-liter V6 diesel engine, including an engine start-stop system (ESS). The JL-generation Wrangler is currently offered in the U.S. with two different engine choices to choose from – the standard 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine or the optional turbocharged four-pot 2.0-liter. Both of these engines are gasoline-powered, sometimes resulting in the disappointment of the consumers that seek a diesel-powered engine instead.

The Sport, Sahara, and Rubicon trims will be the lucky recipients of the engine, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. A diesel engine is currently available in the Wrangler across Europe – a 2.2-liter four-cylinder engine to be exact. The U.S. version of the diesel engine is expected to churn a lot more than the European’s 200 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque. In fact, industry experts believe this new engine might actually be close to the one on the diesel-powered Grand Cherokee, capable of generating 260 horsepower and a whopping 442 lb-ft of torque. With that much more torque to offer, the diesel-powered Wrangler will definitely be an option for serious off-roaders.

Besides code 26 there were two other new codes that JL Wrangler forums are speculating about – code 22 and code 25. Code 22 points to a two-door Sport, Sahara, and Rubicon trims that will possibly be paired with the same diesel-fueled engine and a 6-speed manual transmission. Meanwhile, it appears that code 25 might confirm a long-expected mild-hybrid 3.6-liter V6 that’s been rumored to be in the works over at Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) for a while now. As is customary, FCA declined to comment on any ongoing projects, these newly-available codes included.

If these reports turn out to be true, then the Wrangler lineup will automatically double its drivetrain options, with one of those rumored options providing a whole lot more torque to amp up that off-roading power. As we enter the last quarter of 2018, automakers will slowly start unveiling their 2019 models, and any other possible future manufacturing plans. Plus, many of the upcoming car shows make for a grand stage where automakers like to make their big announcements, and it’s likely that a confirmation of a diesel-powered Wrangler is imminent.

With all this said, the last design overhaul of the Wrangler was completed in time for the 2018 model year, thus, it’s unlikely for there to be any major changes in terms of looks. As we wait for the big reveal, potential buyers should pass by Miami Lakes Jeep and check out the excellent features of our current 2018 JL Wrangler inventory.

Which Jeep top is Right for you?

Jeep Wrangler vehicles are as authentic as their owners, and the many available Jeep tops add to their customizable allure. Whether it’s a soft top, a hardtop, or the latest and most advanced Sky One-Touch Power Top, there’s a Jeep top to suit every level of adventure and provide comfort and convenience depending on the buyer’s needs. We’ve simplified the benefits of each available top type along with some of the common downsides for readers to consider before making their choice.

Soft Top

Jeep soft tops offer plenty of versatility, ranging from full tops to half tops to bikini tops – and sometimes even a combination of several of these. Depending on the kind of adventures that Jeepers may be interested in, they’re free to configure their Jeep soft top however they wish – the side or back windows can be removed, as can the doors and the windshield for an additional thrill factor. The best thing to know about soft tops is that they tend to be relatively inexpensive when compared to their hardtop counterparts. In fact, consumers can actually buy several soft tops for the same amount it takes to purchase just one hardtop. A soft top makes being in tune with nature extremely easy with their ability to be adjusted in just a few minutes. For those adventure enthusiasts that crave exposure to the great outdoors, a soft top will feel like a natural choice.

On the other hand, a big downside to a soft top is the lack of durability. While a hardtop is designed to last the life of the vehicle, a soft top can only last so much – after all, it is a piece of heavily reinforced fabric that is continuously subjected to the elements. It’s likely that a soft top will sustain some damage and wear and tear rather quickly under South Florida’s beaming sun and constant summer rain storms. The removal of a soft top can also be a nuisance to some owners since soft tops need several steps for a complete removal. On the upside, soft tops can be stored easily unlike the hardtop. Lastly, a soft top offers little to no security when it comes to being a theft deterrent – the fabric can be cut open if any thief finds a valuable inside the Wrangler that they want to get their hands on.

A hardtop naturally provides the same type of protection that a regular cabin roof provides for drivers and passengers. The hardtop on a Wrangler comes equipped to protect riders from snow, rain, summer heat, winter cold, and toxic city fumes while also reducing the cabin noise. Designed to be much more durable than a soft top, a hardtop typically lasts the life of the vehicle unless some sort of freak accident (read: improper storage) happens. Adventure enthusiasts will also be happy with the additional cargo space that a hardtop provides – they can even opt for an aluminum half rack or rugged rack to transport gear like kayaks or bikes. Unlike soft tops, a hardtop acts as a good theft deterrent since they’re like a traditional car roof and are less likely to be broken into.

The downsides? A hardtop is a bit hectic to remove, mandatorily required to be removed by at least two people due to its weight and the fact that it slides off in one major piece after removing the initial front-cabin freedom panels. Somewhere to store the hardtop to avoid any damage is an absolute necessity, and riding around without a top that needs to stay behind (unlike the soft top that can be stored on the go) exposes the Wrangler and its passengers to the elements. If we know South Florida weather like we think we do, a likely scenario will have Jeepers finding themselves under a sudden rainstorm without a protective cover – risking damage to the upholstery, the interior electronics, and most importantly themselves.

Sky One-Touch Power Top

The Sky One-Touch Power Top is the latest innovation from Jeep, and it’s the crown jewel of all Jeep tops. Mixing the best of both worlds, the Sky One-Touch Power Top is half soft top and half hardtop. Consumers unwilling to go through the motions of removing their entire hardtop or those who struggle taking apart the soft top piece by piece will be happy to learn that this canvas top operates on a track system much like a convertible. Just like its name invokes, this top requires the touch of a single button to slide back on the track and stack accordion-style above the rear quarter windows – touching the button again will cause the top to slide towards the windshield where it’ll be secured by latches that create a watertight seal. Sensors on the track can detect if any objects or little fingers are in the way and they’ll automatically stop the motion until the path is clear.

This top style is a very recent introduction and it’s just slowly begun making its way across Jeep dealer lots. Its limited availability – only available on the Sahara and Rubicon four-door trims as a matter of fact, and its additional cost of $3,995 are some of the limitations. It’s unclear if Jeep has any plans to offer this top on any of their other Wrangler trims.

Don’t just take our word for it, come by Miami Lakes Jeep and see these tops for yourself. Check out our 2018 Jeep Wrangler inventory and hit the road on a test drive.

This voting will begin on September 27 and go on through October 5.

Customization is not a new concept for the Jeep Wrangler as owners of the iconic vehicle have made it a tradition to reflect their individual personalities wherever the road takes them. The participants will work with famed customizers like West Coast Customs and DCD Customs throughout the series to achieve their vision. At stake are not only the bragging rights, but the ability to keep the winning customized Jeep Wrangler. Whatever the outcome, the winning Jeep Wrangler is sure to turn heads regardless of which celebrity is behind the wheel.

The Jeep brand was recently recognized as a 2018 “Cult Brand” Honoree at the annual “The Gathering of Society Cult Brands”. How the Jeep Wrangler Got Even Better

2018-Jeep-Wrangler-Miami-Lakes-Automall (2)

Among the many reasons customers love to own a Jeep® Wrangler is the ability to go almost anywhere. In the future, it will be easier than ever to take a Wrangler out and off road thanks to the newest technology that will be infused into the Jeep product. From the craftsmanship and high level engineering provided by the manufacturing company Arconic, the Jeep Wrangler will be produced with highly formable aluminum. This special aluminum will help reduce weight and provide a greater strength in the material for consumers to have a better and safer product overall.

“Arconic is proud to develop solutions that increase performance and decrease weight, which are strong selling points for Jeep buyers…Consumers continue to demand stronger, safer and smarter vehicles,” said Mark Vrablec, Vice President of Commercial Business Development for Arconic’s Global Rolled Products.

How Much Lighter Will the Wrangler Become?

The addition of these high-strength aluminum front and rear doors are 12 and 10.5 pounds lighter, reducing the total weight by 45 pounds with the new doors alone. Overall, about 75 pounds have been shaved off with the work of Arconic. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) shed a total of 200 pounds compared to the 2017 model. Even with a lighter, yet more durable vehicle, there’s no drop of strength expected. In fact, they are said to be the strongest doors the Wrangler has ever had.

Experts say the aluminum components should be safer than other materials. According to the 2017 Ducker Worldwide survey, aluminum content in North American passenger vehicles has increased by over 40 percent over the last three years, from 397 pounds per vehicle to 565 pounds per vehicle by the year 2028, generally replacing the steel material. Steel is more than twice as dense as aluminum, so this will only benefit automakers going forward.

What Else to Look Forward to With the Next Wrangler?

While the 2019 Jeep Wrangler is still months from being available in showrooms, the Wrangler JL will add a diesel-engine option and a new trim option may be added at a later date. Jeep is expected to add a plug-in hybrid powertrain by 2020 as well. The new-generation JL Wrangler provides a nicer drive and newfound interior quality that sets itself apart from the Wrangler JK of just the previous model year. Look for Jeep to continue pushing the envelope with their 2019 Jeep Wrangler JL later this year.

Mark A Smith: Aka Jeep Off-Road Man

Jeep® recently lost a person, a fellow die-hard Jeeper, who helped the brand grow immensely, especially in the off-road realm. Mark A. Smith passed away at 85 years old on June 9th, 2014 and he was a large reason the 4×4 Jeep vehicles became what they are today. As a pioneer who was one of the first drivers to handle the Rubicon Trail, Mark became a beloved figure for the Jeep brand. He was considered a legendary four-wheel driver, a former United States Marine during World War II who shared his experiences and mentored many people along the way. Mark traveled to over 100 countries across six continents while being an advisor for auto manufacturers, including Jeep.

Mark even had a dog named “Jeep”, which goes to show how much love Mark had for the Jeep brand. He recalled his first adventures in a Jeep during the first Jeepers Jamboree in 1953, which only had 55 Jeeps and 155 people Today those numbers have grown to include thousands of Jeepers around the world. After the first Jeepers Jamboree was a success and a boost to the town’s economy, the Georgetown Rotary Club bestowed Mark with his “Jeepmaster” nickname that would last for over 40 years. His adventures would continue as he traveled on many expeditions. His longest expedition was to embark on a six-month stretch to go from Ushuaia, Argentina to Prudhoe Bay, Alaska and cross the Darien Gap. He succeeded.

Mark began hosting and training fellow Jeepers each year at Jeep Jamboree USA in 1983, He also lead Jeep trips all over the U.S., and held Jamborees in Canada, Mexico, Australia and Europe. His moniker developed from “Jeepmaster” to “The Father of Jeeping”. Smith said the only continent he had not driven a Jeep through was Antarctica and revealed he even got the word “Jeep” tattooed on himself. He said he loved to go on Jamborees to build friendships and experience the power of exploration in a Jeep.

The Jeep brand appreciated Mark and what he brought to the Jeep team so much they have a dedicated page to him. A 2015 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon was made in his honor, dubbed the Mark A. Smith edition, which was presented to the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office to assist in the patrol and maintenance of the Rubicon Trail. Mark helped raise the standards of what it means to have a Jeep branded vehicle and his impact will be everlasting for the Jeep brand.

What Makes Jeep So Special

Jeep is a brand that has gained fans and followers all around the world simply due to the Jeep brand’s appeal and ability to go almost anywhere. The off-road ability of a Jeep attracts people like no other vehicle brand, as it did with Mark A. Smith decades ago.

At Miami Lakes Automall, we hope to turn you into a Jeep enthusiast as well. With a test-drive, you can experience first hand how a Jeep handles and we’ll do our part to share the knowledge, like Mark did for so many years, about all the capabilities of a Jeep vehicle.

Jeep Plans To Grow Globally

The tech heavy Jeeps of the future are being thought of today. Is Jeep truly planning to take over the world? Well, maybe not. But they do have plans to expand their presence in places where they have a small presence or no presence at all. This is a massive goal and shows the company’s true ambition to increase sales, which are already expected to be at least 2 million Jeep units for 2018. Across all Jeep vehicles, there’s a sense of adventure and now the goal is to share that same feeling overseas as part of a broad worldwide market plan.

Mike Manley, head of both the Jeep and Ram brands for FCA, said Jeep is one of the strongest utility vehicle brands in the world. With plans for FCA to place a greater emphasis on Jeep, especially going forward, from a new mini-Jeep to a full-size, three-row model Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer revival; a lot is going on at Jeep. There’s also plans for a Deserthawk trim and even a Jeep pickup for the first time in decades!

When Can We Expect New Jeep Vehicles?

Manley added that two product launches per year with electrification options available across each nameplate by 2021 is the target. Also included are plans for adding ten plug-in electric and four battery electric vehicles to the fleet by 2022, and a unique monthly fee subscription service for vehicles that would launch in 2019 (details to be released). For now, we know that Jeep is looking into making vehicle models that would serve as rental cars for consumers while away on business trips, like Hertz. There’s still discussion as to how this will play out.

A large reason for the success of Jeep lately is due to a focus on the auto industry shift from sedans to SUVs and the growth of the utility market. Jeep went from 730,000 vehicles sold per year to what’s expected to surpass 1.9 million Jeep vehicles sold in just 2018 alone. Moreover, Jeep wants to expand into markets around the world with the brand looking to go global and goals to see consumers choose Jeep in one of every 12 utility vehicles sold. (Currently this number is one in 17 vehicles sold.)

New Jeep Grand Cherokee?

Originally announced as a project that would be finished in 2017, there’s been a delay for Jeep to produce the latest new Jeep Grand Cherokee. However, the plans to make one is still on the table. A three-row SUV Grand Wagoneer might end up taking place of the all-new Grand Cherokee for the time being. That’s because the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer are set to begin production when the 2019 Ram 1500 is finished being produced. (Yes, Ram is apart of FCA and they share the same production plant to produce their vehicles.) The earliest we will see the Wagoneer will be in 2019, but more than likely in 2020; reports say the extensive redesign and production of the Ram 1500 production is currently causing delays.

What Does Jeep’s Trail Rated Badge Mean?

2018 Jeep Cherokee Capability Trail Rated

Trail Rated Jeeps first were introduced in 2004 to signify which Jeep vehicles were trail worthy, according to strict Jeep specifications. Among the five criteria each vehicle is rigorously tested and evaluated by includes vehicle traction, maneuverability, ground clearance, water fording and off road articulation.
The only vehicles holding a Trail Rated status currently are the Jeep Wrangler, Compass, Renegade, Cherokee and Grand Cherokee. Jeep has since established with the help of their Nevada Automotive Test Center, which vehicles earn the right to be Trail Rated. While many drivers never imagine taking their vehicles off-road, that’s not going to be the experience for owners of a Trail Rated Jeep vehicle.

Jeep Trail Rated 4×4 vehicles are able to overcome bad weather with their superior traction. Their unique maneuverability is due to precise steering and optimized wheels bases that allow drivers to navigate their way effectively. No matter the terrain, they can push ahead.
Even with water in your path, a Jeep Trail Vehicle can go ahead. Water fording is the ability of a Jeep Trail Rated vehicle to plunge ahead through up to 19-30 inches of water. Carry on over large puddles and creeks in your way.

Tested in areas of the frigid cold and rocky area of Northern Michigan that many other vehicles wouldn’t dare try to conquer, Jeep Trail Rated vehicles are certified. These vehicles have the ground clearance and ability to go over hills, uneven terrain and rocks, tree stumps and more without damaging the undercarriage of your vehicle. Maximum vehicle suspension helps allow for a Jeep vehicle to handle each rocky off-road adventure.

Understanding why a Jeep owner loves their Jeep, proud Jeep owners embrace all a Jeep provides. For many, that Trail Rated badge symbolizing what makes owning a Jeep so much fun as not every vehicle on the market offers the versatility and capabilities of a Jeep vehicle.

Rush over to Miami Lakes Automall to experience with a full scale test-drive with any of the Jeep Trail Rated vehicles we have available. You won’t regret your great experience with our friendly and knowledgeable staff and our line-up of fully capable Jeep vehicles.

Differences and Similarities: Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk and Durango SRT

jeep 2018

The 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk and Durango SRT are two powerful luxury SUVs with great features and enough engine power to satisfy anyone. So which one is for you? Let’s compare these two vehicles to see if one meets your needs better than the other. If you want to get a closer look and take them both for a test drive, both models are available at Miami Lakes Automall.

With a starting MSRP of $62,995 (plus destination fee), the 2018 Dodge Durango SRT provides a 475-hp 6.4-liter HEMI V-8, with all wheel drive (AWD) through an eight-speed automatic transmission. Complete with gaping front air intake, 20-inch wheels and 4-inch tailpipes, the Durango SRT has an aggressive muscle-car inspired look that matches its roaring strong HEMI engine.

Though the Dodge Durango SRT is powerful, the 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk has an even stronger engine. The Grand Cherokee Trackhawk has a starting MSRP of $85,900 (plus destination fee) and it is equipped with a 6.2-liter HEMI V8 engine that provides up to 707-horsepower. Thanks to the powerful engine, the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk has an incredible 0-60 mph acceleration time of just 3.5 seconds and it completes a quarter-mile in a mere 11.6 seconds. Not bad for a midsize SUV.

One reason for consumers to pick one model over the other is seating capacity. The 2018 Dodge Durango SRT can seat the driver and six passengers and the Jeep Grand Cherokee is only suitable for five passengers plus driver.

Leather interior comes standard for both vehicles, as most luxury vehicles will include, but the finish is what makes both brands quite nice. The SRT Interior Appearance package provides rich painted accents, micro suede headlines, carbon-fiber trim and an impressively stitched dashboard cover; a first for any Durango model.

Buyers looking for a performance SUV that also has great towing capabilities may be more inclined to go with the Durango SRT. While the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk has an excellent maximum towing capacity of 7,200 pounds, the Dodge Durango SRT has an increased max towing capacity of 8,700 pounds for towing capabilities.

There’s no doubt the reason you’d want either of these upscale SUVs is to provide a luxurious, powerful driving experience. The place you can go to test one for yourself is Miami Lakes Automall, where you can comfortably test drive a 2018 Dodge Durango SRT and Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk.

Miami Lakes Auto 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL

Differences Between 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL and Wrangler JK

Miami Lakes Auto 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL

Earlier this month, the 2017 Los Angeles Auto Show took place, and that’s when the 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL officially debuted. Sure, there have been spy photos and leaked information, but all of that was just a piece of the pie compared to everything we learned at the show. Can’t wait to learn all about it? We have a page dedicated to the 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL. Otherwise, here’s some of the highlights as well as the differences one can expect between the next-generation all-new 2018 Wrangler JL and the 2018 Wrangler JK.

Let’s Talk Powertrains

The Wrangler JK is only available with one engine (3.6L Pentastar V6 engine), whether it is the Wrangler or Wrangler Unlimited. That same engine returns to the Wrangler JL model, but it’s been tweaked a little bit. The new tweaked engine is able to generate up to 285 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque, and it can be paired to the standard six-speed manual transmission or the new available eight-speed automatic transmission. The engine also comes standard with electric start-stop (ESS), a technology to conserve fuel while the engine idles. With this tech, consumers can expect their Jeep Wrangler JL to have an average fuel economy of 17 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway if paired to the manual transmission; otherwise it’s 18 mpg in the city with the automatic transmission.
