Three More Screens for the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L

The award-winning Jeep Grand Cherokee L introduced itself to enthusiasts sometime in 2021. The Cherokee L bears a long-wheelbase, three-row seating, and an impeccable interior design. With an exquisite interior and advanced technology, the Jeep Grand Cherokee L harbors immense capability both on and off-road.

Jeep found it necessary to optimize the 2022 Grand Cherokee L even as a noteworthy vehicle. As a result, the 2022 model year brings forth even more technological treats, appearance packages, and various paint options for the mid-size SUV.

The most drastic augmentation comes from within. The exterior welcomes the optional 10.3-inch front passenger screen. The 10.3-inch screens are in the Cherokee L’s older cousin, the flagship Wagoneer. The screen illuminates navigation, camera views, and any kind of cinematic entertainment. Additionally, the screens will appear standard on the Summit Reserve, the Grand Cherokee L’s premium trim. Furthermore, the screen is optional for the Limited and Overland variations.

Jeep would never take care of the front seat passengers and forget about the rear passengers. So, as a result, the Grand Cherokee L also features new screens for the crew in the back. There’s a pair of 10.1-inch high-definition screens mounted to the back of the front seats. The 10.1-inch screens are available for the Limited, Overland, and Summit variations.

The new screens feature the built-in Amazon Fire TV. In addition, the Fire TV can link to any in-vehicle Wi-Fi hotspot or any hotspot via mobile device. Each display comes standard with nine gigabytes of storage to download PrimeVideo content, an HDMI port, and two voice remotes with Alexa’s inside. Enjoy content with the family through mirroring or enjoy alone time with an individual screen; either way, the Cherokee L’s more than capable.

The 2022 Grand Cherokee L expands the family with Limited Black and Summit High Altitude packages. In addition, the new packages feature gloss-black exterior accents, roof rails, and a customized grille. The Limited Black cruises on 20-inch gloss black aluminum wheels while the Summit attains 21-inch wheels.

There are also three new color options: Ember, Midnight Sky, and Hydro Blue. All three exterior colors are available for the Overland, Summit, and Summer Reserve models. However, only two colors are accessible to the Limited variation, the Ember and Midnight Sky.

Jeep Gladiator 4Xe Hits a Bump in the Reveal Road

It’s not every day a heavy-hitting automaker admits that the competition led them back to the drawing board. But Jeep is brave enough to hit the reset button, even amidst a successful refresh.

Of course, the Jeep Wrangler has always served at the forefront of Jeep’s affection. Since the Wrangler is the apple of the automaker’s eye, its recent refresh welcomed new trim packages and beefy off-road options like the factory’s 37-inch tires. However, these are mere examples of how Jeep knocks it out of the park with fresh, innovative redesigns.

Somehow the attention the Jeep Wrangler renders does not parallel to its first cousin once removed, the Jeep Gladiator pickup truck. According to Mopar Insiders, the transfer of the  Wrangler’s prominent electrified 4Xe powertrain proved more difficult than Jeep anticipated.

Mopar Insider is a reliable source for automotive information, and if its reports are accurate, then the Jeep Gladiator 4Xe won’t be seen or heard until 2024. Unfortunately, the Gladiator 4Xe would surface one model year after the mid-cycle refresh of the esteemed Wrangler.

There are no expectations for wholesale alterations to the Wrangler. So It’s safe to assume that the Wrangler will endure fewer technological and feature upgrades necessary to contend against the Ford Bronco.

When properly equipped, the Ford Bronco Badlands trim with Sasquatch mode features Trail Turn Assist and an electronic disconnecting sway bar which is enough to leave any automaker shaking in its boots. But Jeep wants to ensure the Wrangler competes for the marathon and not just the race. So other Jeep projects fall to the waist, as the Wrangler takes precedence.

Several modes in the Jeep lineup engage electrons in the powertrain, such as the Wrangler and Grand Cherokee. Moreover, Jeep unmasked an objective of a fully electrified lineup by 2025, and with the Gladiator 4Xe extended a year, Jeep can still obtain that objective.

Although unfortunate, the Gladiator 4Xe has hit the pause button on Jeep’s DVR. So it’s not illogical for the Wrangler to hit center stage. After all, the Wrangler is Jeep’s most distinctive model.

At the time of writing, the 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4Xe consists of a 2.0-L turbocharged four with two electric motors paired with an eight-speed automatic. The tandem generates 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque, plus 18 miles of all-electric range. So let’s anticipate modest enhancements for 2023.

Strong Demand Leads to 2022 Jeep Wrangler Tuscadero Exterior Extension

“We expected Tuscadero to be popular and the customer response has been overwhelmingly strong. It’s so popular, we’re extending production into 2022 model-year production to meet strong customer demand. Customers can place an order through December of this year.”

-Jeep Brand North America Vice President Jim Morrison

Since its debut in August of 2021, the “for a limited time only” Tuscadero exterior paint became a fan favorite. The Tuscadero, exclusive to the Jeep Wrangler, embodies a reddish-pink hue that 30,000 fans fell in awe of. The special-edition Tuscadero exterior is also Jeep’s most desired color of 2021.

A look at the daring Tuscadero and its extensively zealous magenta are enough to captivate any Wrangler enthusiasts to acquire the candy-coated brilliance. But the Tuscadero isn’t the only vivid color in the special run of exterior paints. Colors such as the Gecko, Chief, and Nacho also added customization and flair to the Jeep Wrangler with a color palette directly from the factory.

The Tuscadero is available to all 2021 and 2022 Wrangler models, including the Sport, Rubicon, 4Xe, and 392. In addition, the Wrangler’s chromatic magenta exterior paint option is acquirable from now until the end of December 2021. The US manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) starts at $395.

Aside from the extension of the nostalgic Pinky Tuscadero, the 2022 Wrangler lineup gains the Willys model with the Xtreme Recon package. The thrill-seeking trim features 35-inch BF Goodrich KO2 all-terrain tires. The Willy’s Xtreme model traverses atop 17-inch wheels, a 1.5-inch suspension lift, upgraded brakes, and a plethora of blacked-out trims and badges. The standard Willys Xtreme Recon Model details a 3.6-liter V6 engine for the four-door Unlimited body Style.

The 35-inch tires and 1.5-inch suspension lift were exclusive to the top-spec Rubicon and Rubicon 392 variations. But Jeep recognized the limitation and adapted with the moderately priced Jeep Wrangler Willys, eager to go toe-to-toe against the Ford Bronco and its Sasquatch package.

Here’s Why Three Comes Before Two with the Jeep Grand Cherokee L

Jeep

When John Heywood said, ‘Rome wasn’t built in a day,’ the same sentiments echoed throughout the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L. Jeep’s design, and engineering team persevered through a handful of tremendous obstacles. When Jeep initiated the redesign of the exemplary Jeep Grand Cherokee, the expansion also added three-row seating.

Three-row seating is a vital commodity in today’s market. So eruptive that Jeep initiated the release of the Jeep Grand Cherokee L before the classic two-row Grand Cherokee. The market required a three-row segment from the automaker, and boy did they understand the assignment.

These were abrupt modifications, and Jeep responded promptly with great reason.

“Seventy-five percent of the market is made up of three-row SUVs. If we wanted to grow our market, we had to compete with a three-row vehicle too.” -Jeep Chief Engineer Tom Seel.

In addition, both the Grand Cherokee and Grand Cherokee L support the same forward doors, and both Grand Cherokee variants carry the same B-pillar forward. The team process began with the two-door design before deliberation trickled down to prioritizing the three-row. The path wasn’t easy, and that frequently goes overlooked simply because of body and component similarities.

Lead designer Mark Allen and his team prepared both SUVs simultaneously. The Grand Cherokee and Grand Cherokee L come from the same plant. The Jeep SUVs sheet metal also needed the same principal locating points on the assembly line. To sum up, locating points, the robot can just lift the pieces for each SUV without building out a second line.

Allen’s biggest challenge was to make a three-row the same size as the two-row. Today it’s easy to see no obstacle is too significant for the engineers at Jeep to handle. However, Seel emphasized the team’s diligence because both SUVs are often confused with one another.

Jeep didn’t want the three-row to resemble its larger cousin, the Grand Wagoneer. So the most distinctive features are that the Grand Cherokee holds a faster back while the Grand Cherokee L includes a squared-off third row for that vital headspace.

The 2022 Grand Cherokee measures 11.4 inches shorter than the Grand Cherokee L, and the wheelbase is also five inches shorter.

“It was a success in the end, but there were a lot of us in the design studio muttering, ‘How are we going to do this?’” -Allen

The timing was tight, and even the clay model didn’t receive much molding, which is a sure-fire recipe for slowing down the team. Fortunately, Jeep knows that delivering SUVs that grants enthusiast the freedom to go anywhere is an intense process from start to finish. As a result, the engineers can catch their breath and continue to make tremendous strides now that both vehicles have launched.

Let’s Fact Check the 2022 Jeep Renegade

Four walls comprise the 2022 Jeep Renegade with enticing escapades guaranteed for frills that are out-of-the-box. These four walls to the Renegade’s great foundation include the best off-road capability, open-air freedom, fuel-efficient powertrains, and a 1.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder paired with a nine-speed transmission. The combination culminates an astounding on-road and off-road driving dynamic infused with quality refinement and an assemblage of innovative safety and technology features.

What’s New for 2022?

The 2022 Renegade welcomes the Altitude trim with perks such as Gloss Black badging, grille rings, rear valence, and DLR/turn bezels. The Altitude trim also features gloss-black exterior mirrors integrated with turn signals, 18-inch gloss black wheels, deluxe cloth/ leather-trimmed seats infused with Ski grey accent stitching, and Gloss Black interior accents.

The standard for the subcompact SUVs infotainment system is an 8.4-inch touchscreen display. The touchscreen display includes GPS navigation, but only for the Sport and Latitude trims.

The Mesmerizing Features

The 2022 Jeep Renegade embraces expansion as competition grows thick in the compact SUV segment. As a result, the Renegade personifies the mantra ‘Go Anywhere, Do Anything.’ The Renegade’s 1.3-liter direct-injection turbocharged engine increases fuel efficiency and decreases emissions to deliver 177-horsepower and 210 lb-ft of torque. There’s also the option of the active grille shutters, providing engine stop-start (ESS) technology for increased fuel efficiency. Unfortunately, ESS isn’t available for the Trailhawk trim of the Renegade.

Jeep Active Drive and Active Drive Low 4×4 systems provide enthusiasts with a Selec-Terrain system. The Selec-Terrain system offers up to five modes: Auto, Snow, Sand, and Mud (there’s also Rock mode exclusively for the Trailhawk). Equip the Renegade with any mode for the best four-wheel-drive performance, and the Renegade turns into a USPS driver, delivering a spirited execution in rain, hail, sleet, or snow.

Nothing but the best for the best, the Renegade Trailhawk trim provides Trail Rated 4×4 capability equipped with standard Jeep Active Drive Low. The absolute best-in-class renders an advanced 21:1 crawl ratio, 8.7-inches of ground clearance, skid plates, signature red front, rear tow hookups, up to 8.1-inches of wheel articulation, Hill descent control, and 19-inches of fording.

Safety never felt safer in the Jeep Renegade until now. Over 70 standard and available safety and security features protect the subcompact SUV. But the 2022 Renegade is the first to holster Forward Collision Warning-Plus and LaneSense Departure Warning-Plus.
