Jeep Grand Cherokee 4×4 Systems + Other Off-Road Features

What can’t a Jeep 4×4 vehicle accomplish? From gravel to snow, few terrains can stop a properly equipped 4×4 Jeep model going where a driver wants. The 2018 Jeep 4×4 lineup includes the Jeep Grand Cherokee, Jeep Compass, Jeep Wrangler, Jeep Wrangler Unlimited, Jeep Renegade and Jeep Cherokee and our focus today is on the 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee and their 4×4 systems.

Each Jeep Grand Cherokee has different 4×4 systems to choose from, ranging from strong transfer cases to provide massive amounts of horsepower and torque to advanced 4×4 systems that deliver superior all-weather capabilities as they transfer remarkable weather capability by transferring up to 100% of available torque to a single rear wheel if needed.

Under bad conditions or dealing with rocky terrain through streams, drivers can test out and see the strengths and abilities of a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4×4. Tested and durable, this is what separates the 4x4s offered by the Jeep brand from their competition.

Mud and Proper Handling

Muddy conditions won’t stop your Jeep from navigating successfully. While mud can be deceptive, experienced drivers know they can stop their vehicle to check the depth of the trail ahead and see, but luckily with Jeep 4×4 vehicles mud shouldn’t be much of a problem. With sealed electrical systems and a high air intake, there won’t be much concern once you know the path ahead. We recommend also learning what is best for your vehicle in regards to handling. To maintain momentum and proper speed when in mud, let the tires work easier with a higher gear to control your vehicle.

Traction Behind Every 4×4

Driving over paved roads is definitely easier than offroad trails, but there’s no stopping the weather. With heavy rain, heavy black ice or snow, hydroplaning is a real threat. But, the engineers at Jeep have build robust suspensions that will give you as the driver a highly capable vehicle to handle what roads you’re on.

Traction on unpaved roads is even more impressive when you ride in a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4×4. Electronic brake differentials, gas shocks, traction control, electronic stability control are built to help Jeep 4×4 owners maintain control. There’s no comparison to having a powerful, strong Jeep to handle uneven terrain. True 4-Low modes and tow hooks will provide additional help when going over rocky conditions.

Snowy Conditions

Anti-lock brakes and traction control provides remarkable control with every 2018 Jeep 4×4. If you’re dealing with snow, slick ice or sleet, there’s a good chance you might not want to drive over this terrain. With proper tires and trust in your handling in your 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4×4, drivers can handle the extreme conditions of snow.

Sandy Conditions

Even sand can bring about problems for experienced Jeep drivers. Traction can be an issue, but not if you follow the guidelines offered by Jeep. Lowering your tires air pressure by 10-12 pounds will greatly improve your vehicle’s traction when moving over sand.

Additional Recommendations

It’s a smart choice to add available skid plates for undercarriage protection to ensure your 2018 Jeep can stay further protected against rocks, stones, dangerous terrain and unforeseen objects on your path.

Quick and Easy Ways to Upgrade Your New Jeep

Jeep modifications are a right of passage for Jeep owners, especially Jeep Wrangler owners, who embrace the culture and passion all Jeep owners have. From a love of adventure to adopting a unique style made possible by Jeep vehicles accessible body and exteriors, we’re going to mention a few ideas to spice up your Jeep life.

There’s many, many modifications, so regardless of your price range, there’s cheap or expensive Jeep mods depends on your preference. We’ll start with the least expensive modifications and work our way up to the more expensive Jeep modifications we’d recommend.

So, You Want to Go On An Adventure?

Grab Handles

Switch up your Jeep’s look instantly with new and more supportive Jeep grip handles. An easy fix to help passengers leave or enter your vehicle and give a sporty look to your Jeep. For as low as $12 up to $50, you can find various new Jeep grab handles to make your vehicle stand out.

Cold Air Intake

For an increased horsepower, a cold air intake is a great way to achieve more horsepower. Cold air intakes vacuum cooler air directly into the engine, which allows the engine to produce more horsepower, and that makes it easier for a Jeep to perform off-road, no matter what the task may be. As far as performance mods go, adding a cold air intake is a cheaper option than most and parts typically range from $200-500.

Rock Sliders + Undercarriage Protection

Knowing what your Jeep vehicle is capable of takes time and experience driving on various terrains and seasons passing. A great way to protect your vehicle, regardless of your experience driving, is a rock slider or differential covers.

Rock Sliders (sometimes called rock guards) are a great modifications as they act like an armor, a protective barrier between your vehicle any rock or obstacle that might be under your Jeep. They are connected to the vehicle’s chassis and their true function is to protect door sills and door bottoms. Adding on a rock slider can save you from a potential jam you might find yourself in otherwise and cost anywhere from under $200 to $375.

Many drivers also like to add skid plates to ensure further safety of their vehicle. Since rocks are so destructive, as can be large items on trails that might move or scrap your undercarriage, it’s important to use a cover or provide protection.

New Tires + Lift Kit

Among the favorite options to upgrade, especially for those looking to take their Jeep Wrangler out for a spin on any terrain and go practically anywhere offroading would be a lift kit and replacing the standard tires with larger tires. This entire job can range from $900 to a couple thousand dollars. If you want to have your Jeep vehicle with the proper ground clearance, this is the first step towards making sure your Jeep is capable with whatever you throw at it, or underneath it.

Lift kits are especially important for being able to go over rocks because rock crawling can result in the vehicle’s undercarriage being damaged by uneven terrain or debris. Consider this the first step to take before all other because lifting a Jeep is critical for all Jeep Wrangler owners.

2018 Jeep Wrangler JL: New Tops, Engines and Colors – OH MY!

2018 jeep wrangler rubicon new tops

Revealed at the LA Auto Show in late 2017, the all-new Jeep Wrangler JL definitely brings modernity into its iconic rugged design. Yet, Jeep always knows how to keep things fun and fresh with every redesigned model. Head of Jeep brand design, Mark Allen says that the project began with “way-out sketches” that were used to encourage creativity during the developmental stages. Well, those creative juices sure didn’t disappoint – the all-new Wrangler JL is loaded with all-new features, some of which will be available later this year.

Wrangler JL New Tops

Part of the Jeep Wranglers charm is its ability to connect current Wrangler owners with those who drove the very first civilian Jeeps, back in the 1940’s. Another special and unique quality is allowing drivers the opportunity to enjoy  “open air freedom” — according to Jeep.

Adding to the already available “Sunrider” soft top and “Freedom Top” hardtop, Jeep added the all-new “Sky One-Touch” Power Top to the mix.

Working in much of the same way as the Jeep Wrangler JK in regards to removing the Freedom Top, Wrangler JL owners would still have to use the metal latch above the visor and the right-angle latch in the rear outboard corners. However, the JL added more latches in place of the knobs, originally used to fasten the hardtop to the sound bar. As a result, Jeep owners can now remove the Freedom Top significantly quicker without running the risk of losing those fastener knobs.

The Sunrider soft top also received a facelift for the 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL. Instead of Jeep owners having to deal with the hassle of the Wrangler JK soft top zippers, the all-new JL replaced it with a “Tongue and Groove” sliders — which now allows for raising and lowering of the roof, a one-person job.

The Sky One-Touch Powertop, according to Car and Driver, is an electrically operated full-length canvas roof, it slides rearward with the press of a button, opening approximately 90 percent of the roof area to the sky. Available on Sahara and Rubicon four-door models only, it allows for the rear quarter-windows to also be removed for near open-air cruising.

The 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL engine and powertrain options were highly anticipated leading up the Wrangler JLs reveal back in November. The three new engines options available on the next-generation Wrangler include the 3.6-liter V6, 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, and a 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 (available in 2019). The 2.0L and 3.0L Diesel engine share eight-speed automatic transmission, while the 3.6L engine can be ordered with a six-speed manual or automatic transmission.

As previously mentioned, the all-new 3.0L EcoDiesel engine will be available starting in 2019 and it will be an option for the four-door Jeep models. The EcoDiesel engine is estimated to produce 260 horsepower and 442 lb-ft of torque while including the Engine Stop-Start (ESS) feature.

Also joining the Wrangler JL lineup is the all-new 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine. This turbocharged engine, which will be available on select trims, was rated best-in-class with 270 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. Paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, as previously mentioned above, the 2.0L engine also features all-new technology — eTorque technology. Meant to improve fuel efficiency, the eTorque technology was also intended to improve the drivers comfort while start/stop operations and launch performance are in use. The 3.6L engine is making its return for the 2018 model year, but with some tweaks. The Pentastar V6 engine outputs 285 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque and is now standard with Engine Stop-Start (ESS).

Specialty Colors

Another cool feature added to the 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL are the amazing new color options. Jeep has definitely taken the tagline “Taste The Rainbow” to new heights, especially in regard to the assigned color names. Available later on this year, the five specialty colors include, Nacho Clear Coat, Mojito! Clear Coat, Punk’n Metallic Clear Coat, Ocean Blue Metallic Clear Coat, and Sting-Gray Clear Coat. Returning colors for the 2018 model year include, Billet Silver Metallic Clear Coat, Firecracker Red Clear Coat, Granite Crystal Metallic Clear Coat, Bright White Clear Coat and Black Clear Coat. Unfortunately, there isn’t any additional information as to when the new color options will be available to consumers and dealers but we look forward to see how they’ll look in person!
