Why Buy Ram?

Why Ram?

Once you've established that you want to pursue a used pickup, you'll next have to determine which brand you want to pursue. That decision shouldn't take particularly long, as Ram's pickups are the perfect choice, new or used.

What makes Ram's truck stand out from the pack? It could be the ride's excellent reliability, meaning drivers can trust that their used vehicle won't suddenly break down. Plus, for those who work in labor-intensive jobs, Ram is the perfect accompaniment for the worksite.

Excellent Reliability

You may be a bit apprehensive about pursuing a used pickup, but you shouldn't have any worries after having purchased a used Ram 1500. The truck has continually been commended for its reliability over the years. In fact, U.S. News & World Report has released annual reliability reports, and the vehicle has finished in the top-10 among full-size pickup trucks since 2009 (including a three-year run of being either first or second between 2013 and 2015).

Why is the vehicle considered so reliable? Well, it could partly be attributed to the engine offerings, which don't suffer compromised performance despite age or mileage. Plus, the rugged and durable body seems to withstand the test of time, so you may be able to fool others that your five-year-old Ram is actually brand new.

Perfect for Worksite

There are plenty of reasons why a used Ram 1500 is the perfect choice for the worksite. You're aware of all the power that the pickup can produce, meaning it should easily be able to overcome any potential obstacles. While your coworkers are zooming on the work site, you'll surely be able to keep up (or potentially lead the pack).

The pickup offers a whole lot more when it comes to worksite amenities. The truck bed is obviously plenty big, allowing you to fit any cargo or equipment. Plus, thanks to the brand's Cargo Box, drivers will have a safe and secure place to hide their valuable tools. If the truck bed doesn't provide enough room, drivers can simply haul whatever equipment they see fit. Depending on the engine, drivers can haul more than 9,000 pounds with their used Ram 1500!

Why Used?

There are a variety of benefits that accompany purchasing a used pickup, but there are two factors that stand out in particular: affordability and a driver's connection to a new vehicle. While these aren't the sole reasons for pursuing a used ride, they certainly have to be considered.

Affordable Price Tag

This is rather obvious. Used vehicles predictably have a more beneficial price tag than their new counterparts. Of course, that doesn't mean they're any less capable. In fact, you could probably save thousands of dollars by even pursuing a 2013 or 2014 model! Plus, by opting for an older model, customers may be able to get their hands on several amenities that were previously too expensive.

Just look at Miami Lakes' inventory. The most affordable, bare-bones 2016 Ram 1500 will cost a customer just over $23,000 (a very reasonable deal, for what it's worth). Meanwhile, a fully-loaded 2013 model is several hundred dollars less, and the truck only has 50,000 miles on the odometer. This means you can rely on this perfectly-capable, more-affordable 1500 for at least five more years.

Driver's Sentimental Connection

Are you going to be using your truck for the worksite? If you just dished out money on a new pickup, you may be apprehensive about scuffing up the exterior, and your Ram will seemingly be more susceptible to damage when it's relied on for heavy-duty work.

Reversely, you probably won't feel that way with a previous-year model. Ordinarily, in an attempt to preserve your vehicle's image and performance, you may find yourself holding back a bit while riding in a new pickup. On a used model, you'll be much more likely to test the full limits of your ride... and isn't that what it's all about?

Favorite Year

It's easy to suggest buying a used Ram 1500, but that can be easier said than done. After all, the nameplate has been out for more than 30 years, so it's not like prospective buyers can walk into a dealership and say that they want a "used Ram 1500." Instead, it's worthwhile to do your research on which particular model years may benefit you.

If you're looking for a current-generation Ram 1500, two of the recent standout models are the 2013 and 2014 Ram 1500. Each of the vehicles earned a variety of accolades, including Motor Trend's "Truck of the Year" honor. Despite being released in back-to-back years, the pair of pickups actually differ, especially when it comes to the engine options.

2013

The 2013 Ram 1500 doesn't resemble its predecessors, as this particular model underwent several major changes. For starters, the exterior includes a new fascia and wheels, and the 'DODGE' name up front was replaced with 'RAM.' Meanwhile, the interior saw the addition of new upholstery options and technology, including the brand's innovative Uconnect infotainment system.

The most notable change was under the hood, where the 3.7-liter V6 was replaced by the (new) standard 4.7-liter V8. Accompanied by the brand's six-speed 65RFE automatic transmission, drivers could expect the system to pump out 310 horsepower and 330 pounds-feet of torque. Alternatively, drivers could also opt for the new 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine, which was partnered with the ZF eight-speed Torqueflite8 automatic transmission. The system isn't only capable of cranking out 305 horsepower and 269 pounds-feet of torque, but it also delivers best-in-class fuel efficiency (25 miles per gallon on the highway). The 5.7-liter HEMI V8 stuck around, which produced the best power specs of them all (395 horsepower and 410 pounds-feet of torque).

If you're skeptical about whether the 2013 Ram 1500 is the proper choice, you don't have to take our word for it. After all, Motor Trend named the pickup the "Truck of the Year" for that model year. If that's not enough for a prospective customer, we're not sure what is.

2014

While some may not notice many differences between a 2013 and a 2014 model, the changes are rather evident. Notably, the 2014 model saw the inclusion of the new Eco-Diesel 3.0-liter V6 engine. The system was environmentally-conscious, but it also managed to produce 240 horsepower and 420 pounds-feet of torque. Plus, drivers can expect a highway fuel economy that's approaching the high-20s, numbers that aren't typically produced by pickup trucks.

Unfortunately, the 4.7-liter V8 that was introduced only a year before was discontinued for the 2014 model, with the 3.6-liter V6 taking over as the standard offering. The eight-speed Torque-Flite transmission also became standard on the 2014 pickup.
