The Kia Sportage has been a SUV staple for Kia Corp for many years along with the Kia Sorento. Undergoing significant changes in recent years, the fifth generation of the Kia Sportage has finally been revealed. Entering the market for the 2023 model year, the new Kia Sportage comes with several firsts for the model, showing a new trend surfacing in Kia Corp style. Available with all-wheel drive, this SUV is made to move. Check out the new specs for the next-gen 2023 Kia Sportage.
The new lineup for the 2023 Kia Sportage features the LX, EX, X-Line (with AWD) SX, SX-Prestige, followed by the all-new Sportage X-Pro and X-Pro Prestige trims. Although the lineup is larger than usual, every trim is powered by the same 2.5-liter inline 4-cylinder engine, able to generate up to 187 horsepower and 178 lb-ft of torque.
Many trims in the lineup can come with front-wheel drive (FWD) or all-wheel drive (AWD) – these include the LX, EX, SX, and SX Prestige. All X trims are locked into AWD. Every trim comes with an 8-speed automatic transmission, so the main changes to fuel economy come down to the drivetrain. Since all trims have the same engine, if purchased with FWD, the fuel economy is 25 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway. If purchased with AWD, the fuel economy is 23 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway.
Still wearing the tiger-nose grille, the design has small changes with a new blacked out grille graphic that spans across the width of the front fascia. Boomerang DRLs enhance the headlights and angular fenders call for a strong presence with crisp lines. With many upgrades available, standard features include a sound-absorbing windshield glass, rear privacy glass, heated rear glass, LED headlights, LED DRLs, LED taillights, automatic headlights, and power-adjustable mirrors. Past the LX trim, all side view mirrors are heated (optional upgrade for LX) and come with LED turn signals, and these trims also come with Kia Smart Welcome to play sounds or music when the consumer enters the vehicle.
High-end features can be found on higher trim levels. For example, a panaromic sunroof with a power sunshade come standard on all trims past the X-Line, but the EX and X-line can upgrade and add a sunroof as well. Only the SX Prestige and X-Pro Prestige come with solar control glass and LED projector headlights. Only the X-Pro trims come with a heated windshield, available for upgrade on the SX and SX Prestige. LED fog lights are standard on all trims past the SX trim. Wheel sizes vary across the lineup, with 17-inch wheels on the LX and X-Pro trims, 18-inch wheels on the EX and SX trim, and 19-inch wheels on the X-Line and SX Prestige.
A Kia Sportage first, this SUV is getting the dual panoramic curved display starting to pop up in the Kia lineup, with two screens offering the driver vehicle diagnostics and the infotainment system across 25-inches of digital bliss. That’s all standard, except for the LX, getting an 8-inch touchscreen. Smart storage solutions can be found around the cabin, and with a longer wheel base, passenger room has also increased, with a class-leading rear legroom of 41.3 inches, and a new best-in-class rear cargo capacity of 39.6 cubic-feet and a dual level cargo floor. Standard across the lineup is a 60/40 split-folding rear seat and steering-wheel mounted controls.
The 2023 Kia Sportage LX comes with cloth upholstery, whereas SynTex can be found on the EX and SX trims, Premium Syntex on the SX Prestige (available on the SX), and the X-Line and X-Pro trims come with “X-Line” SynTex seating trim. The LX offers a six-way manual-adjustable driver’s seat, and a four-way manual-adjustable passengers seat is the standard, except for the X-Pro trims, that offer an eight-way power-adjustable front passenger seat. All trims past the LX come with a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat with two-way power lumbar support. Past the LX trim, heated front seats, a leather steering wheel, and dual—zone climate control are standard (upgrade available for LX), and the SX Prestige and X-Pro Prestige come with ventilated front seats. A heated steering wheel is available on the SX, standard on the SX Prestige and X-Pro trims.
As noted above, although the dual panoramic curved display is standard on all trims, the LX comes with an 8-inch touchscreen, for a total of 20.3” instead of the full 25” on the rest of the lineup with two 12.3-inch touchscreens for the instrument cluster and the Kia Connect Infotainment system. Regardless, standard features across the lineup consist of Google Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth wireless tech, and a rear view monitor. A six-speaker sound system is the standard up until the SX trim, where a Harman Kardon premium sound system becomes the standard. Past the LX trim, a wireless phone charger is standard on all trims.
