The Kia Soul has always been one of the funky models of the bunch, and it is going to enter 2023 with a new face. Over the years, the automaker has made the slow transition to a new front fascia for its upcoming vehicles. The days of the tiger nose grille are exiting, and the new Kia “Tiger Face” is the new look. Find out what else has changed by reading the specs below.

Engine Types

For 2023, the Kia Soul is simplifying the lineups, getting rid of the X-Line and Turbo, but keeping their flavor in new trims. The new lineup offers the Kia Soul LX, S, EX, and GT-Line. Powering the lineup is a 2.0-liter DOHC engine, optimized with dual continuously variable valve timing. This engine is capable of generating 147 horsepower and 132 lb-ft of torque.

Engineering

Like last year, all trims come with an Intelligent Variable Transmission (IVT). This means the fuel economy may also be the same, with 28 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway. Front-wheel drive (FWD) is the only drivetrain available.

Exterior Features

As noted, the new “Tiger Face” grille is taking over with a hint of fangs in each corner. New Daytime Running Lamps (DRLs) and turn signals round out the new face, and LED headlights are available with redesigned fog lights to finish the look. Many standard features remain the same, such as automatic headlights, privacy glass, solar glass, a rear window wiper, and a heated rear glass with a timer. With the new simplified lineup, once high-end features will be found in new trims, such as heated exterior mirrors, mirrors with turn signal indicators, and LED headlights and tail lights. Past the S trim, a power sunroof may also be available. 16-inch wheels are the standard, with 17-inch wheels on the EX, and 18-inch wheels on the GT-Line.

Interior Features

Able to seat five passengers comfortably, the standard upholstery is cloth, with premium triclot cloth past the LX trim. Syntex, Kia Corp’s own synthetic leather, may return with the GT-Line. A 6-way manually adjustable driver’s seat is also standard, with a 4-way manually adjustable passenger’s seat. On the S and EX trim in 2022, a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat with 2-way power lumbar support was the standard. Across the lineup, a 60/40 folding rear-bench seat is standard, along with steering-wheel mounted audio controls and Drive Mode Select. Dual-zone automatic climate control is standard past the LX trim. Select trims come with heated front seats.

GT-Line Technology Package

A GT-Line Tech package adds heated front seats, multi-colored LED speaker lights that pulse in time with music, a power driver seat, high-gloss interior trim, LED headlights and taillights, a cargo cover, and a dual-level cargo floor.

Entertainment

Over the years, Kia Connect has replaced the UVO sound system. An 8-inch color touchscreen is the standard for the LX base trim, but a 10.25-inch color touchscreen with navigation, SiriusXM Radio, and HD Radio are the standard on the rest of the lineup. A six-speaker sound system is also standard, plus Apple CarPlay, Google Android Auto, Bluetooth wireless technology, and a rear camera display. A wireless phone charger is also standard on all trims past the LX. The GT-Line package adds Navigation based Smart Cruise Control and a Harman/Kardon premium audio system with an external amplifier, subwoofer, and door-mounted tweeters.

Safety Features and Warranty

The 2023 Kia Soul comes with many standard safety features, such as dual front advanced airbags, dual front seat-mounted side airbags, full-length side curtain airbags, a rollover sensor, an anti-lock brake system, stability and traction control systems, a rear occupant alert system, and LATCH child-seat ready anchors. Standard advanced safety features include Forward Collision Avoidance Assist-Pedestrian (FCA-Ped), Lane Keeping Assist + Lane Following Assist, Driver Attention Warning, Lane Departure Warning, High Beam Assist, and Rear Occupant Alert. With the GT-Line package, consumers can also add Forward Collision Avoidance Assist with Junction Turning capability and Highway Drive Assist. Select trims come with Blind-Spot Collision Warning (BCW), Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Asist, Lane Change Assist, and Smart Cruise Control.

Kia has a 10-year/100,000-mile warranty program. The Kia 10-year/100,000 mile warranty program consists of 10-year/1000,000 mile limited powertrain warranty, 5-year/60,000 mile limited basic warranty, 5-year/100,000 mile limited anti-perforation warranty, and 5-year/60,000 mile roadside assistance plan.
