Engine Types
For 2022, Mitsubishi Motors changed up the lineup a bit, starting with new names. The new lineup is the Outlander Sport S, ES, LE, SE, SE Special Edition, 2.4 GT, and GT Special Edition. All trims up to the SE Special Edition are powered by a 2.0-liter MIVEC DOHC engine, optimized with Mitsubishi Motors own variable valve timing system (VVT), MIVEC. Able to generate 148 horsepower and 145 lb-ft of torque, it’s a good start. For a small power boost, the 2.4 GT and GT Special Edition are powered by a 2.4-liter MIVEC DOHC engine, with a small boost for 168 horsepower and 167 lb-ft of torque.
Engineering
Regardless of the engine, every trim comes with a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) standard. The ES, LE, SE, and SE Special Edition are all able to come with all-wheel control (AWC), Mitsubishi Motors own take on an all-wheel drivetrain. Without AWC, the fuel economy for vehicles powered by the 2.0-liter engine is 24 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway. With AWC, the number is 23/29 mpg city/highway. If powered by the GT engine, the fuel economy is 23 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway

Exterior Features
Upgrading the lineup for 2022, now just about every feature is standard. This includes automatic headlights, LED daytime running lights, LED tail lights, power heated exterior mirrors, front rain-sensing wipers, rear privacy glass, and all-season tires. The main difference is black roof rails on the GT and GT Special Edition. 16-inch wheels are the standard for the 2022 Outlander Sport S trim, but the rest of the lineup rides on 18-inch wheels.
Interior Features
Many of the features from previous models can be found in the 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport. Fabric cloth makes up the seating surfaces for the S and ES trims. The LE and upwards come with leather. All trims come with a 6-way adjustable driver seat, 4-way adjustable passenger seat, 60/40 split-bench folding rear seat, rear-heater floor ducts, automatic climate control, auto-dimming rearview, remote keyless entry. More comfort features like heated front seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, start with the LE trim.

Entertainment
Standard across the lineup is an HD radio, Bluetooth wireless tech, steering wheel audio and phone controls (with voice starting on the LE trim), and a rearview camera. The S and ES trims come with a 7-inch display screen for the radio, but the LE trims and up come with the new 8-inch smartphone-link display audio (SDA) system, offering Google Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and SiriusXM. The standard sound system is a four-speaker stereo, with a six-speaker system starting on the SE trim and up.

Every 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport comes with advanced dual-stage front airbags, a driver’s knee airbag, side curtain airbags and front seat-mounted side airbags, stability and traction control systems, and LATCH child seat system, an anti-theft engine immobilizer, and RISE body construction. Forward collision mitigation with pedestrian detection, automatic high beams, an anti-lock braking system, and lane departure warning.
