2021 KIA RIO AND RIO 5-DOOR
The Kia Rio and the Kia Rio 5-door are so similar that separating the two models sounds unnecessary. One is a straight up sedan whereas the other is a hatchback. Other than that, the features are fairly similar. Don’t think so? Check out the specs for the 2021 Kia Rio.
1.6-liter DOHC I4
Avail. Engine Type
Kia Motors really simplified the 2021 Kia Rio lineup, only two trims for the sedan (LX and S) and one trim for the hatchback (S). Because of this, the same engine can be found powering both vehicles – a 1.6-liter DOHC I4 engine that generates 120 horsepower and 112 lb-ft of torque. Both use multi-point injection for the fuel delivery system to transfer fuel faster to the engine to increase the power of the combustion.
Available only with front-wheel drive (FWD) and with the engine paired to an Intelligent Variable Transmission (IVT), the fuel economy for the 2021 Kia Rio is the same for all models and trims. The EPA is set at 33 mpg in the city and 41 mpg on the highway. The size of the Rio hatchback isn’t very different in size, only five pounds heavier and actually a foot shorter in terms of length, which is why its fuel economy is not affected.
Due to the small lineup for each, some features are standard on both models, including solar control glass, heated rear glass with timer (and wiper/washer on hatchback), heated exterior mirrors, and automatic headlamps. LED headlights are standard on the Rio 5-door, available on the Rio S trim. Both vehicles ride on 15-inch wheels.
Standard interior features for the Rio 5-door are similar with the Rio 4-door S trim. Both come with automatic temperature control, a supervision meter cluster instrument display (4.2-inches), and a 60/40 split-folding rear bench seat. These are the features that stand out.
All trims of the 2021 Kia Rio and Kia Rio 5-door come with an 8-inch touchscreen display and steering wheel-mounted audio control buttons. UVO Link comes standard on the Rio hatchback but is only an option on the Rio S trim. Regardless, both models also come with a six-speaker system able to use Apple CarPlay or Google Android Auto, Bluetooth wireless tech with steering wheel control buttons, a rear-view monitor with parking guidance, and Siri Eyes Free.
Safety Features and Warranty
All 2021 Kia Rio models come with dual front advanced airbags, dual front seat-mounted side airbags, full-length side curtain airbags, a rollover sensor, an anti-lock brake system, stability and traction control systems, a rear occupant alert system, and LATCH child-seat ready anchors. Advanced safety features available on the Rio S and standard on the Rio 5-door are a driver attention warning system, lane keeping and following assist, lane departure warning, and forward collision avoidance with pedestrian detection, and a rear occupant alert system.
All Kia models are backed by an industry leading warranty. The Kia Soul is backed by a 10-year or 100,000-mile limited powertrain warranty, a 5-year or 60,000-mile limited basic warranty, and a 5-year or 100,000-mile limited anti-perforation warranty.
