While offering consumers the convenience of spending less money on fuel, the Mitsubishi Mirage seems like a hybrid, but without the hybrid price tag or complicated technologies. Available in three trim levels - ES, SE, and GT, the Mitsubishi Mirage comes standard with a 1.2-liter MIVEC DOHC 12-valve inline three-cylinder engine. “MIVEC” is the term for Mitsubishi’s personal Variable Valve Timing technology, which alters the timing of a valve lift event and is utilized to improve performance. A five-speed manual transmission is standard on the Mirage ES, and it offers a fuel economy of 33 mpg in the city and 41 mpg on the highway. The Mirage SE and Mirage GT come standard with a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) -- which conserves fuel and increases the fuel economy to 37 mpg in the city and 43 mpg on the highway.
The interior features of the 2018 Mitsubishi Mirage vary slightly from trim to trim, but regardless of trim, the seating capacity and space remains the same. The standard cargo room is 17.2 cubic-feet, but with the rear seats folded down, there is a total of 47.0 cubic-feet of space. Standard seating features shared by all trims include a four-way adjustable passenger seat, and split folding rear seats. Furthermore, a chrome accented HVAC panel, tilt steering wheel, gloss black center panel, driver and passenger sun visors with driver’s side vanity mirror plus a lid and ticket holder and a remote hood and fuel door release levers are also standard interior features.
Standard lighting features include a front room light and cargo light. For additional convenience and comfort, the Mirage SE and GT trims offer a six-way adjustable driver’s seat, driver’s seat armrest, leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, gloss black shift panel, gloss black door panel accents and chrome-plated front inner door handles. Lastly, the Mirage GT also has heated front seats.
The exterior styling of the 2018 Mitsubishi Mirage offers a refreshing take on practicality - good things really do come in small packages. Shared standard features include halogen headlights, LED rear combination tail lights, a high mount rear stop light, and power side mirrors. Furthermore, there are several color-keyed options that are also offered standard -- color-keyed front and rear bumpers, color-keyed outside door handles, and color-keyed tailgate handles. The base trim comes standard equipped with 14-inch steel wheels with wheel covers, the Mirage SE is standard with 14-inch alloy wheels and the Mirage GT comes with 15-inch two-tone alloy wheels. 165/65R14 tires are standard on the Mirage ES and Mirage SE, while 175/55R15 tires are standard on the Mirage GT.
Tech + Safety
All trim levels on the Mitsubishi Mirage have some kind of advanced entertainment for the 2018 model year. The Mirage SE and Mirage GT are equipped with 6.5-inch display that includes a smartphone link display audio system. The 6.5-inch display system includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto Compatibility and AM/FM/CD/MP3 audio system.
The Mirage ES trim offers a slightly bigger display screen, 7.0-inch touch panel display audio system that features an AM/FM audio system and digital HD radio. All three trims come standard with four speakers, a rearview camera, Bluetooth wireless technology, a USB port, an ECO indicator light, steering wheel phone controls and voice controls, automatic climate control, power windows, and door locks. FAST-Key passive entry system with push button start and panic feature is standard on the Mirage SE and GT trims, while remote keyless entry with panic feature is only standard on the Mirage ES.

All trim levels have the same safety features, which include anti-lock brakes, active stability control, three-point seat belts, and seven advanced dual-stage airbags including the driver’s knee airbag. Additionally, there is a tire pressure monitoring system, adjustable front shoulder belts with pretensioner, LATCH child-restraint system, child safety rear door locks, an anti-theft engine immobilizer and Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution (RISE) body construction.
