The Chevy Malibu is an award-winning midsize sedan that offers consumers a comfortable, fuel efficient and stylish ride. The 2018 Malibu lineup includes five different trims, the L, LS, LT, Premier and Hybrid, and all trims are equipped with front-wheel-drive. As the name suggests, the Malibu Hybrid is equipped with a hybrid powertrain, and the other four Malibu trims are equipped with an internal combustion engine. There are three engines on the Malibu lineup, a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine, a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, and a 1.8-liter hybrid four-cylinder engine.
Turbocharged 1.5L Four-Cylinder Engine
The Malibu L, Malibu LS and Malibu LT are all equipped with the turbocharged 1.5L engine paired to a six-speed automatic transmission. The 1.5L engine produces 160 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque and it gives the Malibu a great fuel economy of 27 mpg in the city, 36 mpg on the highway and a combined city/highway fuel economy of 30 mpg. The 1.5L engine is so efficient drivers can expect to save an average of $500 in fuel costs in five years in comparison to the average vehicle.
Turbocharged 2.0L Four-Cylinder Engine
The turbocharged 2.0L engine is standard on the Chevy Malibu Premier and it boosts the vehicle’s power to 250 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. The 2.0L engine is paired to a nine-speed automatic transmission, which improves performance and fuel economy. Despite the additional power produced by the bigger engine, the fuel economy of the Malibu Premier is still pretty great. The Malibu Premier averages 22 mpg in the city, 32 mpg on the highway and it has a combined city/highway fuel economy of 26 mpg.
1.8L Four-Cylinder Hybrid Engine
The 1.8L Hybrid four-cylinder engine is only available on the Malibu Hybrid and it makes the Malibu Hybrid an incredibly fuel efficient vehicle. The 1.8L hybrid engine is paired to a two-motor drive unit and an automatic transmission and the engine produces 124 horsepower and 129 lb-ft of torque. The Malibu Hybrid has an average fuel economy of 49 mpg in the city, 43 mg on the highway and a combined city/highway fuel economy of 46 mpg. Thanks to the fuel efficient engine, Malibu Hybrid drivers can expect to save $2,750 in fuel costs in five years in comparison to the average vehicle.
The Chevy Malibu is a comfortable midsize sedan with seating for five passengers and the front two seats are comfortable and modern bucket seats. The Malibu Premier comes standard with heated and ventilated front seats, and buyers of the Malibu Hybrid and Malibu LT can add heated seats as an upgrade. Also, the Malibu Hybrid and Malibu Premier are equipped with dual-zone automatic climate control.
The Malibu LS, LT and Hybrid trims come standard with a 7-inch color touchscreen, a rear vision camera and Chevy MyLink, and the Chevy Malibu Premier has an 8-inch color touchscreen with navigation, a rear vision camera, Chevy MyLink and wireless phone charging, which are all available upgrades on the Malibu LT and Malibu Hybrid. With the exception of the Malibu L, all Malibu trims have Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and OnStar 4G LTE and an available built-in WiFi hotspot. A six-speaker sound system is on the Malibu L, LS, LT, and Hybrid trims and the Malibu Premier is equipped with a 9-speaker Bose audio system, which is an available upgrade on the Malibu Hybrid.
The Chevy Malibu LT, Hybrid and Premier trims are fitted with LED daytime running lamps and the Malibu Premier features LED taillamps. There are four different standard wheel options. The Malibu L has 16-inch steel wheels with covers, the Malibu LS has 16-inch aluminum wheels, the Malibu LT and Malibu Hybrid ride on 17-inch aluminum wheels, and the Malibu Premier has 18-inch aluminum wheels and buyers have the option to upgrade the Malibu Premier with 19-inch aluminum wheels.

The Malibu is equipped with ten airbags, a standard rear vision camera, all-speed traction control, hill hold and StabiliTrak electronic stability control system. The Malibu also comes standard with Teen Driver, an interactive driving program that assists new teen drivers and provides parents with insights into their teen’s driving. The Teen Driver program gives parents a peace of mind while their teen is out driving around.
Price + Warranty
The Chevy Malibu L, the base trim, has a starting MSRP of $22,555 (plus destination fee) and the MSRP of other trims vary. All Chevy models are backed by a three-year or 36,000-mile limited basic warranty, a five-year or 60,000-mile limited powertrain warranty and owners receive two years of complimentary maintenance.
