The 2018 Chevy Colorado is available in several trims and with two drivetrains and three engine options. The trim lineup includes a base trim, as well as the Colorado WT, Colorado LT, Colorado Z71, Colorado ZR2, and there are three special-editions, the Colorado Redline, Colorado Shoreline and Colorado Z71 Midnight. The Colorado base trim is only available with two-wheel-drive; the Colorado RT, Colorado LT, Colorado Z71 are available with two-wheel-drive or four-wheel-drive; and the Colorado ZR2, an off-roading trim, is only available with four-wheel-drive. The Colorado is also available with two different truck bed lengths (long box or short box) and two cab sizes (crew cab or extended cab).

2.5L 4-Cylinder Engine

The Colorado lineup includes three engine options, all of which offer best-in-class capabilities. The standard engine on all Colorado models, except the Colorado ZR2, is a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine that produces 200 horsepower and 191 lb-ft of torque. The 2.5L engine gives the Colorado a towing capacity of 3,500 pounds and a best-in-class four-cylinder highway fuel economy of 26 mpg.

3.6L V6 Engine

The second gas engine option on the Colorado is a 3.6-liter V6 engine and it provides best-in-class horsepower of 308 horsepower as well as 275 lb-ft of torque. The 3.6L engine increases the Colorado’s towing capacity to 7,000 pounds, which is more than any competitive V6 engine. The 3.6-liter gives the Colorado a fuel economy of 19 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway, which is great considering how powerful it is.

Duramax 2.8L Turbo Diesel Engine

The third engine option is a diesel engine, the Duramax 2.8-liter Turbo Diesel engine, and it’s an all-around winner. The diesel engine is a great option for buyers that want a fuel efficient and/or a truck with maximum towing capabilities because it is best-in-class for both of those capabilities. The Duramax 2.8-liter Turbo Diesel engine produces best-in-class 369 lb-ft of torque, gives the Colorado a best-in-class towing capacity of 7,700 pounds and makes the Colorado best-in-class in fuel economy with an average of 22 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway.

The Chevy Colorado offers seating for five passengers and it has a comfortable cabin with modern tech. The seats in the Colorado base trim and Colorado WT (work trim) are fitted with an easy-to-clean and durable vinyl, but the other Colorado trims feature cloth seats or leather. Standard tech features include a color display and rear view camera. The Chevy Colorado base trim has a 4.2-inch color display, but other options include a 7-inch and 8-inch touchscreen. Colorado trims equipped with touchscreens have access to Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth streaming, voice-activated technology, an auxiliary jack and USB ports.


The Colorado has a stylish and sporty exterior appearance that has a number of features that make using a truck easy. The Colorado base trim rides on 16-inch steel wheels, but there are a number of other wheel options standard on other trims, including 17-inch black rims and 18-inch polished aluminum wheels. comes standard with a locking tailgate and it is available with a EZ Lift-and-Lower tailgate that uses an special internal bar to make raising the tailgate easier and more controlled. The tailgate also has 13 tie down locations, which are very helpful when securing cargo down into the truck bed.

Colorado ZR2

The Colorado ZR2 is designed for off-roading, so it has a number of special features to improve its off-road performance, and together its features make it one of the most off-road capable midsize trucks available. The Colorado ZR2 is available with two engines, the Duramax Turbo Diesel engine or the 3.6-liter V6 engine and it comes standard with 17-inch wheels, 31-inch Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac off-road tires. To enhance the truck’s balance, strength and capabilities when driving on unknown or challenging terrain, the Colorado ZR2 features a suspension that is 2 inches higher and a rear and front track that is 3.5 inches wider than other Colorado models, and it is equipped with class-exclusive front and rear electronic locking differentials.

Colorado Shoreline

The Colorado Shoreline is a special-edition Colorado trim made for beach goers, surfers, stand-up paddle boarders and kayakers. The Colorado Shoreline comes standard with black 18-inch wheels, a spray-in bedliner to protect the truck bed from salt and sand, and premium easy-to-clean all-weather floor mats that protect the interior carpet from sand, water and dirt. Available specialty equipment includes GearOn Tiered Storage Racks and a Thule Stand-Up Paddle Board Carrier. The Colorado Shoreline as comes standard with a complimentary 12-month subscription to SiriusXM satellite radio and black door handles, bowties, mirrors and beltline moldings.

The Chevy Colorado has a four-star overall crash rating from the National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration. The Colorado is equipped with six standard air bags, including frontal airbags, head-curtain side airbags for in all rows and seat-mounted side airbags for the driver and front passenger.
