2018 Chevrolet Sonic
Subcompact cars may feel like they’re falling by the wayside, but Chevrolet isn’t putting them to rest just yet. A little bigger than their Spark, the Chevrolet Sonic is a powerful compact car that starts with a low price but also offers high-tech options. Room for passengers and cargo, the Sonic breaks the mold of the small car stereotype. Also available as a hatchback, this is a vehicle that can satisfy most consumers.

Power and Trims
The 2018 Chevrolet Sonic is available as a compact vehicle or a hatchback; the former has three trims (LS, LT, and Premier), and the latter has only two - LT and Premier. The LS and LT trims of each vehicle are powered by an ECOTEC 1.8-liter 4-cylinder engine that generates 138 horsepower and 125 lb-ft of torque. The Premier trims have a turbocharged ECOTEC 1.4-liter engine that bumps the torque up to 148 lb-ft of torque.
Driving and Handling
All trims come with the option of a 5- or 6-speed manual transmission, or a 6-speed automatic transmission. This causes an assortment of fuel economy ratings depending on the choice consumers go with. For instance, if powered by the 1.8-liter engine, the fuel economy can be 26/25 mpg in the city for manual/automatic transmission respectively, and 35/34 mpg on the highway for manual/automatic transmission respectively. With the turbo 1.4-liter engine, the combined fuel economy is 32/30 mpg for manual/automatic transmission, respectively.
The 2018 Chevy Sonic may not be known for style, but it comes with some nice standard features. Across the lineup, each trim comes with solar absorbing glass to keep the cabin from heating up, automatic on/off headlamps, and a spare tire. The option to install a power sunroof is available on all trims except the LS subcompact Sonic. 15-inch steel wheels are the standard for the LS subcompact Sonic, and the LT rides on 15-inch aluminum wheels. The Premier trim comes with 17-inch wheels, available in multiple styles that are also available for the LS and LT trims.
It may be obvious, but the 2018 Chevy Sonic matches the price. Consumers will have to manually crank up the windows, but Chevrolet makes up for that by making a Chevrolet 4G LTE hotspot a lineup standard. Also standard is a rear 60/40 split-folding bench seat and a driver information center. Select trims come with a remote vehicle starter system, a heated steering wheel, heated front seats, and enhanced driver information center.
The standard setup is a four-speaker system. Select trims come with a six-speaker audio system, SiriusXM Satellite Radio, and steering wheel controls for audio and phone. Both stereos support auxiliary jacking in for media devices.
