The 2018 Chevy Silverado 2500HD lineup consists of four trims, Work Truck (WT), LT, LTZ and High Country and two engine options. With the exception of the Silverado 2500HD High Country, which is only available with a crew cab, the Silverado 2500HD is available in three cabin options, regular cab, double cab and crew cab, and the crew cab is the biggest cab option. Buyers have the option of a couple different axle ratios, two truck bed sizes (6’6” or 8’), the long box and standard box, as well as the option of two-wheel-drive or four-wheel-drive. Also, the 2018 Silverado 2500HD lineup consists of seven appearance packages and special edition models.
Vortec 6.0L V8 Engine
Standard on the Chevy Silverado 2500HD lineup is the Vortec 6.0-liter V8 engine. The Vortec engine is a gasoline-powered engine and it produces 360 horsepower and 380 lb-ft of torque. The Vortec 6.0L engine is paired to a 6-speed automatic heavy-duty transmission and it has a maximum trailer towing capacity of up to 13,000 pounds and a maximum fifth wheel trailering towing capacity of 14,300 pounds.
Duramax 6.6L V8 Engine
The available Duramax 6.6-liter Turbo Diesel V8 engine offers the highest horsepower diesel rating in its class. The Duramax 6.6L Turbo Diesel V8 engine produces 445 horsepower, 910 lb-ft of torque and its paired to an Allison 1,000 6-speed automatic transmission. When the Chevy Silverado is equipped with the Duramax 6.6L engine it has a maximum conventional trailer capacity of 14,500 pounds and a maximum fifth wheel trailering towing capacity of 18,100 pounds.
The Chevy Silverado 2500HS is available with three cab sizes, a two-door regular cab, a four-door double cab and a four-door crew cab. Four-door cabs can seat between five and six passengers, depending on the configuration of the front seats, and the regular cab seats three passengers. The crew cab model is the biggest cab option and it provides backseat passengers with a little more than 40 inches of legroom and the double cab option provides backseat passengers with nearly 41 inches of legroom.
Chevy offers a lot of excellent standard tech features. The base trim, the Chevy Silverado 2500HD WT comes standard with a six-speaker system, Bluetooth, a rearview camera and the Chevy MyLink 7-inch radio system. Other Silverado 2500HD trims are equipped with an 8-inch touchscreen, Chevrolet MyLink Audio system, which include HD ratio capability, USB ports to charge devices, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as well as Bluetooth streaming audio for music. The Silverado 2500HD High Country is available with a rear entertainment system that provides screens and a Blu-Ray DVD player and a Bose sound system comes standard. Silverado 2500HD trims are available with 4G LTE WiFi from OnStar.
Exterior, Safety + Price
The Silverado 2500HD has a lot of excellent standard features, including a ground clearance of up to 9.65 inches on four-wheel-drive models and a ground clearance of up to 9.68 inches on two-wheel-drive models. There are a number of convenience features, like cargo tie downs and the corner step bumper, that are located around the exterior of the truck. The Silverado 2500HD LT, LTZ and High Country trims are equipped with the EX Lift and Lower tailgate, cargo box LED lighting and a hard tri-folding tonneau cover. The Silverado 2500HD comes standard with 17-inch steel wheels, but other trims have other wheel options.
Safety Features, Price + Warranty
Two third of the cabin structure is made up of high-strength steel, so drivers and passengers are surrounded by a tough exterior shell. The Chevy Silverado 2500HD comes standard with several airbags throughout the cabin, a rearview camera, Chevy’s Teen Driver program, and StabiliTrak stability control system with rollover mitigation technology, trailer sway control and hill start assist.
The 2018 Chevy Silverado has a starting MSRP of $34,160 (plus destination fee). All Chevy trucks are backed by a three-year or 36,000-mile limited basic warranty, a five-year or 60,000-mile limited powertrain warranty, and two years of scheduled routine maintenance visits.
