Engine Types

Three trims make up the 2018 Chevrolet Impala lineup - the LS, LT, and Premier. In total, there are two engines available throughout the lineup. Found standard on the Impala LS and LT is an ECOTEC 2.5-liter DOHC 4-cylinder engine with gasoline direct injection (GDI), variable valve timing (VVT) technology, and electric start-stop (ESS) technology. The engine delivers 197 horsepower and 191 lb-ft of torque.

Found on the 2018 Chevy Impala Premier, also available on the LS and LT trims, is a 3.6-liter DOHC V6 engine with GDI and VVT. The strongest engine in the lineup, it can generate 305 horsepower and 264 lb-ft of torque. All trims come with front wheel drive (FWD) and are paired to a 6-speed automatic transmission.

Engine Designs and Fuel Economy

“DOHC” stands for “double overhead camshaft”, an engine design that lessens the stress of an engine’s cylinders for better performance. VVT also helps with this, altering the lift valve events of the cylinders for optimized performance and fuel efficiency. GDI is a fuel delivery system that sends highly pressurized gasoline into the engine’s combustion chamber via its fuel line. ESS makes it even better by saving fuel economy via shutting down the engine while idle - what a lifesaver in start and stop traffic. Wow, now that’s class.

All of that technology offers some nice fuel economy for each trim. The 2018 Chevrolet Impala LS and LT trims get 22 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway. The Chevy Impala Premier has a fuel economy of 19/28 mpg city/highway.

Exterior Features

Unlike their pony cars that have an almost endless array of options for personalization, Chevrolet makes the Impala pretty straight forward. The only feature found standard across the 2018 Chevy Impala lineup is an acoustic windshield. Beyond that, consumers will find more standard features on the Impala LT and Premier trim.

Starting with the Impala LT, power-adjustable, heated exterior mirrors with integrated turn signals are standard, and high intensity discharge headlamps can be found on the Impala Premier trim. The Impala LS and LT trims ride on 18-inch wheels, the Impala LS has steel wheels, the Impala LT has alloy wheels and the Impala Premier rides on 19-inch aluminum wheels, with the option to upgrade to 20-inch aluminium wheels for a little more flare.

Interior Features

The interior features of the 2018 Chevy Impala are pretty great. Standard features include an 8-way power-adjustable driver seat, keyless start with start/stop button, a day/night rearview mirror, and steering wheel mounted audio controls with voice command. Other notable features starting with the Impala LT trim are dual-zone automatic climate control, an available auto-dimming rearview mirror, available heated driver and front passenger seats, and remote start.

On the Impala Premier trim, consumers can opt-in for ventilated front seats. This trim also comes with everything mentioned on the Impala LT trim, but the heated seats come included. The technology inside is pretty great, too.

SiriusXM Satellite Radio for three months and a trial of 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot are also standard across the lineup, what a gem.
