2016 Jeep Wrangler - Miami, FL

The 2016 Jeep Wrangler sitting on the lot is currently the most advanced Wrangler that’s ever been produced. Along with its technology features, this legendary Jeep also has a state-of-the-art engine, along with some refined and effective 4x4 systems and off-roading components. Everything is wrapped into a modern classic body type, a style that has seen changes to better adapt to the demands of the road, while still paying homage to the traditional Jeep design. Jeep is currently celebrating its 75th anniversary, and the Wrangler — a timeless and iconic vehicle in the lineup — has received many tweaks and upgrades throughout those years since the Jeep was first created for the WWII battlefield.

It’s because of this we can rest assured that the level of detail and care that went into the craftsmanship of the 2016 Jeep Wrangler is the same as it was when it first stormed the front lines all those years ago.

Design

The Wrangler has retained the same basic design throughout the years. It’s still available with either a hard or soft top, and continues to sport that iconic seven-slot grille with the rounded headlights. Granted, it's been updated with modern materials and re-styled for a modern edge because of all the automakers out there, Jeep knows that it’s important to stick to your roots, but even more important to keep up with the times.

Therefore, that traditional seven-slotted grille is now even better than the one you may remember on the older Wranglers, and the round headlights are LEDs with foglights sitting just underneath. The bumper has a pair of smaller lights sitting closer to the center, and now comes out over the wheels, running at a slant down towards the axle. The hood and sides have remained relatively simple, and the windshield and hood have also retained their iconic shape. Even the windshield wipers are set up the same way as before. The back end is cut from the same cloth as the front - simple and practical, but with upgraded taillights. There are a few aesthetic differences between trim levels, like the Rubicon trail map hood decal on the Black Bear or the military green with bronze trim on the 75th anniversary model. Other than that, they remain simple - as always.

But that’s okay. Because as the Jeep fanatics know, there is an abundance of aftermarket parts available for drivers to add their own unique styles to their Wranglers. If you buy a Jeep, you need to think of it as a blank canvas, with the winches, suspension lifts, and bigger tires being your paint brushes and palette.

Performance

One thing that has changed significantly over the years is the performance of the Wrangler. Now in 2016, this Jeep has the best and most advanced performance components the company has ever been able to offer. Even the engine has seen drastic improvements, and is both more powerful and efficient than ever before.

The 2016 Jeep Wrangler is equipped with a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine. While some may disagree with the capability of this engine, even skeptics can’t deny that 17 mpg city and 21 mpg highway is a vast improvement compared to what Wranglers used to get, and the best-in-class rating of 285 horsepower is hard to ignore, not to mention the 260 lb-ft of torque it produces. This tremendous amount of torque helps promote exceptional low-speed crawling capability, and when combined with the right 4x4 system, this Wrangler can go over or through anything.

While the Wrangler’s Trail Rated badging is enough to prove that, let’s take a look at some of the advanced off-roading components that help make up the Wrangler, starting with the 4x4 systems. On the Sport, Sport S, and Sahara trims is the standard Command-Trac NV241 4x4 system. This system is perfect when traversing hazardous road conditions, which is why it gives the Wrangler a best-in-class winter performance rating. For more intense off-roading, the Rock-Trac equips on the off-road oriented trims, and lands the Wrangler best-in-class off-road performance. The 4:1 low-gear ratio lets the Wrangler crawl at a low speed so the engine can pump an even greater amount of torque into the wheels. This ensures maximum grip and traction in off-road environments.

Certain Wrangler trims also come with Hill Start Assist/Hill Descent control, an upgraded Rock-Track Case, and even Tru-Lok electronic locking differentials. All of these add up to provide a technologically advanced and modern off-roading experience. Don’t worry though, as much as things have changed, the 2016 Jeep Wrangler still comes with the famous Dana 44 axles.

Technology

The Jeep has been loaded with technology on the inside, too, and not just technology that’s designed for off-roading. Instead of having a bare-bones Wrangler like the old-days, how about one with a high-resolution touchscreen? That’s right, the 2016 Jeep Wrangler can come equipped with the Radio 430N, which is a 6.5-inch touchscreen that has the ability to play CDs and DVDs, provide access to SiriusXM Satellite Radio, SiriusXM Travel Link, Garmin GPS Navigation with audible turn-by-turn directions, and also features a USB port, and even a hard drive. Before, Jeep owners were happy if they had signal to a AM/FM radio channel; now, the Wrangler can do that and so much more. The tunes can even blast through a best-in-class audio nine-speaker Alpine premium all-weather sound system.

12-volt power outlets are also available and the 2016 Jeep Wrangler can even be equipped with heated seats.
