2016 Dodge Journey
The Dodge Journey has continued to grow in popularity since it's debut less than ten years ago. After reaching an all-time high in sales in 2014 (a record they'll presumably break in 2015), the nameplate has continued to innovate, as is the case with the upcoming 2016 model. Once again, the Journey will feature the exclusive combination of passenger and cargo space, engine power, interior technology, and safety!
Of course, you'll want the best deal on your Journey, so there's no other place to make your purchase than Miami Lakes Auto Mall. However, before we discuss the 2016 model and the reasons you should be visiting the dealership, let's take a look back at the Journey's history...
Brief History of the Journey
Let's take a small "journey" back to 2007, when Dodge unveiled their newest crossover SUV at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Originally referred to as the JC49, it took some time for the vehicle to hit the market. After another showing at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show, the vehicle finally made its debut in time for the 2009 model year.
Upon it's North America release in March of 2008, many noted that the Journey included bits and pieces of the brand's other vehicle. The SUV shared a modified platform with the Dodge Avenger, and it also included an identical wheelbase to the retired Chrysler minivan. Originally available as a five-passenger, four-door vehicle, the Journey included the standard four-cylinder, 2.4-liter engine (capable of producing 173 horsepower and 166 pounds-feet of torque) found in many of the brand's other large vehicles.
The vehicle saw several upgrades in 2011, with engineers revamping the Journey's exterior style. To achieve this, they included a new grille, a lower front fascia, and new LED taillights, and they also redesigned the interior to be more luxurious and comfortable. The brand also included a brand new suspension, steering system, and powertrain. Other features that were included at some point during the Journey's current eight-year run are under-floor storage lockers, rear climate control vents, theater seating, and a number of safety technologies (like traction control, tire pressure monitoring system, and a rear backup camera).
The brand predictably improved their engine over the years, as well. Engineers eventually coupled their six-speed automatic transmission with a 3.5-liter V6 engine that could pump out 235 horsepower and 232 pounds-feet of torque. This was soon upgraded to the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 (283 horsepower and 260 pounds-feet of torque), and customers eventually had the option of the 2.7-liter V6 flex-fuel unit.
Sales have continued to grow in the United States, especially over the past four years. After having sold 55,155 units in 2011, sales jumped to 79,563 in 2012, an incredible increase in sales. The Journey sold 93,572 units in 2014, an all-time high for the nameplate.
The All-New Dodge Journey
There's a lot to like about the upcoming compact SUV. You can focus on the impressive engine options, the roomy and comfortable interior, the abundance of technology, or the innovative safety features.
We'll start under the hood, where customers can find the award-winning 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine. The unit is capable of pumping out 283 horsepower and 260 pounds-feet of torque, and when it's paired with the six-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive capabilities, drivers can expect a 25 highway mile per gallon fuel economy. Alternatively, you can go with the 2.4-liter 16-valve four-cylinder engine, a system that can deliver 173 horsepower and 166 pounds-feet of torque.
Head to the inside, and you and your passengers will find an abundance of passenger and cargo room. There's an abundance of room in all three rows, including impressive interior dimensions for hip room (53.8-inches, 54.4-inches, 40-inches, respectively) and leg room (40.8-inches, 36.1-inches, 23.4-inches). Each of the rows has their own specialized capabilities. For example, the first row features a six-way power driver seat and a four-way power lumbar adjustment. In the second row, you'll find a 60/40 split-folding-seatback (which will assist with optimal cargo room), and the third row can also be manipulated. When all is said and done, drivers can expect a maximum of 67.7-cubic-feet of cargo room! Of course, the engineers cleverly added a number of other storage areas where drivers can place their goods. There's available in-seat storage areas, an in-floor storage area in the trunk, and even an in-floor cooler!
The interior is comfortable as well, as the designers included a number of soft-touch materials to enhance the seats. To further optimize the driving experience, customers can opt for the available heated front seats and heated steering wheel.
We're not finished with the interior, as the Journey offers a number of exclusive features that will make the occupant's driving experience more entertaining. The Radio 8.4 NAV system (via the 8.4-inch touchscreen) will provide the driver and passengers with real-time updates, whether it be in regards to weather, traffic, or even sports scores! Of course, the driver can also take advantage of the system's accompanying Garmin GPS Navigation technology, which provides 3-D maps to help you get to your destination. Finally, the occupants can appreciate the SiriusXM Satellite Radio and the six premium Infinity speakers (as well as the 368-watt amplifier and subwoofer).
To put it over the top, the Journey is one of the safest vehicles in the class. It starts with the SUV's construction, which includes a dual-phase protective steel frame. Inside the vehicle, engineers included front seat restraints (keeping the occupant's head and necks protected) and a knee blocker (preventing any leg injuries).
There's a variety of technological safety features included in the vehicle. Via the touchscreen, the driver can utilize the ParkView Rear Back-Up Camera, and they can access further assistance with the ParkSense Rear Park Assist System. The Journey also features an advanced brake system, Electronic Stability Control, an advanced antilock brake system, and Electronic Stability Control (with Electronic Roll Mitigation).
