What We Won’t Miss About Staying Home for the Holidays

Miami Lakes Auto Holiday Travel

The holidays are coming up, and everyone is going to have a food baby by the New Year. Some of us are going out of town, some of us are staying in. Those of us hosting don’t have it easy. We make all the food, including the sides, invited others to make it a potluck, but you can’t rely on that, so we also made some deserts. Yeah, those of us spending the holidays at home have it tough, but you know what we’ll never miss? Being on the road during the holiday rush.

Traffic

Hahaha, oh those traveling for the holidays will surely hit traffic anywhere and everywhere. Flying a few days early? That airport terminal is going to be busier than usual. Flying the night before? Better get some sleep on the plane, because the next day will be busy for at least twelve hours.

Then there’s everyone on the road. The traffic is jam packed with everyone traveling to their final destination. Unless leaving early morning, it’s gonna be a heck of a drive to make it there in time for dinner. And come nightfall, we need a driver that hasn’t had too much to drink.

Miami Lakes 2017 Dodge Journey Interior Storage

Have a Picnic with the Dodge Journey

Miami Lakes 2017 Dodge Journey Interior Storage

Summer will be ending soon, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t enough time left for family fun activities. How about a picnic in the park? Easy enough. Want to know how to make it even better? With a car that doubles as a temporary camper, or the Dodge Journey. This beauty can do a lot more than hit the road.

Cooking

Is that picnic all pb&j sandwiches or is it more of a bbq? Some parks have bbq pits, but unless they’re free, and clean, they may not be worth seeking out. However, that doesn’t matter, because when driving to the picnic, you already have an oven right under the hood.

Did you read our piece on “How to Cook a Turkey on an Engine”? That article should get you started on some ideas. If a car engine block can cook a portion of turkey and mashies, then just think of what else one can cook on the way to the picnic or right there in the park.

Miami Lakes Mopar 2017 Dodge Challenger

Mopar Celebrates 80th Anniversary with Mopar ’17 Dodge Challenger

Miami Lakes Mopar 2017 Dodge Challenger

When we discussed Mopar’s 80 Year Anniversary last week, we didn’t expect news about a new vehicle to celebrate the milestone. There was talk about Mopar doing something special for their 80th anniversary, but a new Mopar ‘17 Dodge Challenger? Count us in!

Mopar actually has a line of its own limited-edition vehicles, starting in 2010. The ongoing series as of now is made up of the Mopar ’11 Charger, Mopar ’12 300, Mopar ’13 Dart, Mopar ’14 Challenger, Mopar ’15 Dodge Charger R/T,  and the Mopar ’16 Ram Rebel. Now with the Mopar ‘17 Dodge Challenger, it might be safe to say they’re not just a custom auto parts shop anymore. They do still have plenty of high performance auto parts though, many of which we add to various vehicles in our service area.

The Mopar ‘17 Dodge Challenger will turn heads with two two-tone custom body paint options available – Contusion Blue and Billet Silver, straight from Dodge’s case of High Impact Paint colors. To achieve the two-tone appearance, Mopar will be hand-painting the upper portion of the Challenger Pitch Black. Either paint job will give a brilliant appearance at night and day, and the bodylines of the Dodge Challenger are perfect for the two-tone transition. A special Mopar 392 logo will also be hand-painted on, and the Challenger will be riding on 20-inch aluminum wheels with semi-gloss accents and Dodge logo hub caps, followed by Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat black exhaust tips.

How to Cook a Turkey on an Engine and Then Some

Miami Lakes Dodge Challenger Cooking Turkey Engine

Heyo! Thanksgiving is literally around the corner, next Thursday, and with that, some are in a panic. If they aren’t now, they will be. Watch the turkeys disappear from the stores and the instant-gravy, too. The worst thing to happen around this time of year though is usually needing to cook a turkey, sometimes in a short amount of time. Luckily, there are a few infamous ways to cook a turkey.

To Grandmother’s House We Go

This one has been around a bit, and was made popular by Manifold Destiny. It’s a book all about how to cook while on-the-go. No, really on the go. As in, cook a 5-pound turkey breast with vegetables on the way to the dinner party. A quick little background for this set-up – plan to drive for about four hours, assuming your dinner party isn’t around the block, and have the following ingredients:

Miami Lakes Automall will be there with several cars and a chance for you to win free oil changes at Miami Lakes Automall. For a chance to win, all you have to do is guess how many wieners it takes to wrap around a 2016 Chevy Tahoe and submit your answer on the Wiener Bash posts on Miami Lakes Automall’s Facebook or Instagram with the hashtag, #WienerBash!

This year’s event will include sausages, hot dogs, and brats from over fifteen local restaurants and food trucks. There will also be three concerts featuring “The Guess Who,” “War,” and “Foghat.” With fifteen restaurants to choose from, it’s hard to know where to dine. Luckily there’ll be plenty of samples, but if you still can’t choose, here’s a few places that caught our eye.

2016 Dodge Durango

Dodge Durango R/T is a Beast – Here’s Why

2016 Dodge DurangoR/T stands for “Road & Track” and is the badge given to performance vehicles. So what, we ask, is R/T doing on the Dodge Durango? It’s not a muscle car, it’s not a sedan. It may be a bit of a crossover, but primarily it’s an SUV. So what is up with slapping an R/T trim onto the lineup? Let’s find out.

Engine Power

Unlike the four other Durango models, the Durango R/T is powered by a powerful 5.7-liter V8 HEMI MDS VVT engine that is paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission. MDS and VVT are both designs integrated into engines today to improve the performance of the engine, thereby enhancing the performance of the vehicle.

The 5.7-liter engine delivers 360-hp and 390 lb-ft of torque, and helps the Durango R/T achieve its best-in-class maximum towing capacity of 7,400 pounds. The Durango R/T comes standard with 8-speed automatic transmission.

Road Trip to the Red Planet? Dodge Challenger is the Best Choice

2016 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Mars

With all the recent talk about the Red Planet, we started wondering what it would be like if cars could travel … in space?! Crazy right? It’s impossible today, but let’s say we take a page from the Cosmos, and believe a Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat can in fact travel through space.

Why go to the Red Planet in a  Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat?

If you’re going on a long journey to another planet, you’re definitely going to want the speed of the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat. Additionally, wouldn’t we want Martians to know Earthlings have a little pizzazz?

First off, we need to make the necessary upgrades for breathing. We also need to think of a few things; once a propulsion engine gets us past Earth’s gravitational force, we’re left to just a car. Space has no traction, so we can’t steer.  HEMI or turbocharged engine, it doesn’t matter, we can’t go very far – well we can, given our inertia, but we’ll be traveling aimlessly into blackness. So let’s also say we have a liquid-fuel cryogenic rocket engine with the same parameters of an everyday car engine, and can be powered by everyday gasoline – basically, a car engine redesigned to propel us through space whilst keeping its same specs i.e. horsepower, torque, rpm, etc. We also need to have the exhaust connected to the steering wheel so we can steer.

My Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Experience

Miami Lakes Automall Dodge Challenger SRTHellcat Hands-on Experience

Between the months of August and September, Miami Lakes Automall was working with Polesport Champion and filmographer, Kristian Lebedev to create multimedia and promotional material for several car brands. During which time, I, Jordan Rodriguez was assigned to work with Kristian. I got to drive a lot of cars for the project, including the beloved 2016 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat. Here’s what I experienced.

Oh man, I got to drive a Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat. It was a-mazing. Also, a little intimidating. For the first hour or so, I was driving like my gramma – as slow as possible. I didn’t want a single dent or scratch. I was riding in a vehicle worth nearly double the average salary in Miami. So yeah, I was panicking a bit.

Once we got on the highway though, that all changed. The Dodge Challenger is like none other. With a 6.2-liter supercharged HEMI V8 – SRT Hellcat Engine under the hood, putting out 707-horsepower, accelerating from 0-60 in seconds was an experience I’ll never forget. Not to mention how fluid driving the Challenger was. I could feel the difference when I got back in my own car. Once I got used to the Hellcat, I felt invincible driving. The car was smooth and it handled perfectly.
